214 days and counting? Hang in there Frank. Better to be there at the Embassy than back to the U.S. Good luck.

Thanks Huong. You're right, at least our petition is still there. I'll be back at the consulate soon to shake the tree a little harder this time.
I hope your rebuttal is quick and succesful, you've waited far longer than we have.

if everything goes without any delay the timeline is reasonable.. but you do realize that you cant really get married in VN or the visa will become invalid... you must marry in the US within 90 days of her entry...

Hi Guys.

My fiance interview is on 7/8/2010.

I've submitted vacation request for 8/1/2010 - 8/14/2010.

We've planned for 8/8/2010 Wedding date over in VN for mine fiance family & friends.

From most of your experience, would this be enough time for her to recieve her VISA?.. assuming that she had no issue w/ the interview.

I'm very nervous when it come to HCM, VN....

I haven't book a flight yet.. but seeking for supports from VJ peers w/ experience.

Thanks

Just got off of the phone with the CIL. Poor guy told me that the consulate sent an email to him saying visa was denied 221g that they need the police cert and medical. I had to explain it was the good news we were waiting for. The letter was sent on the 8th and she will be there with the documents next Tuesday. With luck she will be here early October.
Who's next?

Yes, that would be nice..the skin test would only take 72 hours for the results to come back, that what I learned. The hospital staffs said the turn around time for the sputum will take approx 10 weeks, so that would be around mid-October for us. Last year, the Police Cert would also take us a month too if it wasn't for someone her Dad knows whom help us expedited in time for the interview. This time, we will try to get it done earlier, hopefully before the results come back. I wonder if her family can pick it up for her if she can't stay in HN for the whole month?

The CDC protocol is that the TST would be given before a chest x-ray. For most people, this would mean more time rather than less, since the chest x-ray can done and examined in a day.

The TST is also not very reliable in Southeast Asia. Too many people have been exposed to the bacteria, and would give a false positive test. My step-son had a reaction to the TST administered by the civil surgeon here in the US, but his chest x-ray was clear. His reaction was 1mm shy of being classified a "positive".

There's also a problem with false negatives. You could have a raging case of active TB and give a negative TST because your body is losing the fight, and you don't have enough active antibodies to produce a reaction to the TST.

The sputum smear and culture are pretty reliable. The smear can be used to confirm TB pretty quickly. The culture can also produce a confirmation within a couple of weeks. Getting a negative result takes a while because the bacteria grows so slowly. They can't say for certain that there's no TB unless the culture doesn't produce any TB bacterial growth in a couple of months.

I agree... Topics like this one and theothers that are pinned should have that ability... but it really depends on if the person creating it is going to stick around long term to maintain/update it.. Vietnam maintained the "going to HCMC" topic for a while but then he faded away... and that topic turned into a who is goig to VN rather than the interview stats that it started out as... I wonder if a topic can be handed off from one member to another if one is not around enough to maintain it.... to allow the editing without losing the rest of the thread by only copying the main page and starting a new one......

Maybe we could have a Wiki page for this kind of ongoing statistical collection...

allowing editing accross the board can cause some problems though...

Yeah, I've seen it happen. People get pissed off and try to erase all of their posts, leaving the thread in a shambles. Still, there are a lot of good reasons for allowing it. Being able to update the opening post is one. Not having to wade through pages of a thread to find out where a poster corrected a critical mistake in an earlier post is another.

To avoid reposting this forever.. PM me and I will update the first post in the forum.. this info has been added there to keep everyone from having to hunt the info down via searching through posts...

This is the only forum I've ever been to where 'regular' members can't edit their own posts unless nobody else has posted after them. This would have been very helpful when this thread was first started! It would have kept the thread down to a digestible size.

there are many CSR's there that have no clue what they are talking about... expect to get a phone call late at night or hear that they did a visit to the home in VN... the case is likely undergoing investigation.. ater that is done then the results are reviewed and they make a decision.. in our case the decision was to tell us go ahead and bring the updated docs in to get the pink... since they only asked for a cosponsor from you .. it shouldnt be much longer..

in looking back.. they did the phone investigations in July and there was a review by the CO on July 31.. then they did the investigation of showing up at her house in Aug.. Aug 31 Review by CO again... took over a week to get the letter sent with the results of the review end of Aug.. funny how things were happening at the end of the month..
Thanks everyone.. we'll see what happens when she goes down there...

Thanks Curtis,
Even though in some way I expected some result soon, hearing it was like reading off the numbers of a winning lotto ticket... its all still sinking in... I actually had to get him to fax a copy of it to me so I could read for myself and be sure there was no misunderstanding..he was dead set on the fact that it was bad news.. so wrong he was. Its pretty much the same letter that was sent to hang asking for updated medical with the addition that they lost the police cert. Now I know its all a done deal in the next few weeks... just a matter of $ and getting the docs and passport to them and a few trips back and forth from HaNoi to HCMC... sux that the tickets back and forth may cost more due to the 1000 year anniversary celebration going on in HaNoi next month... dont care at this point.. just so tired of being apart... it would be nice if the second medical was free since we paid for it to be done already...

Not making any additional plans until her visa is in hand..

What do you guys think of this?

I want to send the HCMC monkeys an email every day. And I want to quote them saying that they must reply to each of my requests.

It is my understanding that they have to record every communication, so I want that list to grow every day. The longer our case is in "jail," the longer the list grows.

When I was talking to Thuy this morning she said the following which threw me for a loop..
I received a phone call with a HCMC # today... I think the consulate... the woman says have you gone to the US yet? she said no.. the woman says she must come to HCMC the first week of sept, next week .. Then she says that the final vaccination is due next month... Until the word vaccination hit me, I was elated.. but then I realized it was only the last round of vaccines and had nothing to do with the final approval from the consulate...

Pending means waiting for someone to pick up the folder and go through it to do whatever investigation is needed.
ScottThuyMaleVietnam2010-08-23 10:54:00
VietnamHCMC Interview roll call
even though it may be canned, it must be documented in the record.. so it is a touch of sorts... any email to you or your rep = an update in the system... (not the autoreply).... If they did what Jerome's friend thinks they did, then they made a big mistake as it will require a great deal of work to resolve.. the cases sent to NV without proper documentation will be returned to the consulate my NVC or USCIS.... they do have a protocol they must follow and returning cases without an official decision/documented reason for denial is against protocol.

I called the DoS today and got Sara. She was very nice, the nicest person since this whole nightmare began. She told me the chimps in Vietnam (yes, she used the word 'chimps') touched our file at the end of July but nothing has been decided.

Man, talk about BS. Why don't those monkeys just get it over with? I'd even be happy to hear 'NO!' right now. Being in limbo is just terrible.

The call today yielded a total b!tch on the other end... she said they were not allowed to tell me anything other than that it was currently under AP.. no dates nothing... I had to laugh at her and say she was only one of a handfull of people there that do things that way..That I am told the last date of update in the system at least 1 time each week.... she said she would have to bring it up at a meeting as they are not allowed to provide dates... I let her know that this process is difficult enough on us and that I am always polite when I call... the way she treats people just adds to the stress and agrivation...
ScottThuyMaleVietnam2010-08-20 10:34:00

The theory of them cleaning house before the new guy gets there was M.E.'s... Sounded good to me too... There is enough stress when it comes to this whole thing... gotta stay positive... its easy to let AP get to you... I had hoped that they reviewed cases every quarter.. then it was every six months.. now its annually... which IMO is absurd why that would be the case, but there have not been any approvals in so long...

We got a new house and Thuy wanted to be here before the move next week.. at least she helped me shop for it... virtual tours and photos arent the same as being there though.. We originally had planned to go to Disney in March and Cape Canaveral to watch the shuttle go up... missed that too... as well as summer break in the keys... thanks CO...

I can really see how this whole process could cause someone to snap...

A consular officer reviewed the beneficiary’s case on July 31. However, the case is now pending a final review by a consular officer. After the officer review, we will let the beneficiary know what documents she need to submit to complete her application.

We will contact the beneficiary when there is a conclusion on this case.
