National Visa Center (Dept of State)How long, nowadays, will it take our approved case to get to the NVC?

NOA2 July 26 CSC and today I called Department of State and they said they got my file today&give me the new case number,so it took 2 weeks for NVC to do something.I hope they'll send soon to my Consulate;)

Killer! I'm working with the same service center, so hopefully they'll be running a smilar timeline. Ours was approved 6 days after yours to boot.

I-797 Notice Date: July 24th, 2013

Today I reached NVC by phone, after two emails what have gone unanswered.

After giving the EAC Receipt Number the CS said: "We have no information."  I stated "It has been 12 working days since the I-797 indicated that the petition "has been forwarded."    The CS stated "Do you have the I-797 in hand" and I said "no."  She said: "Call back when you do.

So I found the I-797 and called back, waiting about 35 minutes.  The same (I think) CS rep answered and again said: "We have no information."

I stated: "The prior CS rep told me to call back when I had the I-797 in hand"  She asked: "What is the Notice date?"

I stated July 24th, 2013.  She then stated: "It takes 8 weeks for us to get it."

I stated: "Based upon numerous reports by other K1 applicants the time that it usually takes VSC to receive the petition averages 12 working days."  She reiterated: "It takes 8 weeks."  I said: "Is this something new, since others say that it generally takes 12 working days?"  She stated "All I know is that it takes 8 weeks.  Her ID was HRED.

Pathetic.  It takes two days to get a 1st class piece of mail either from Texas or Vermont, to the New Hampshire VSC.  So clearly the USCIS is lying and it has not been sent yet, or it's been sitting in the VSC now for 10 working days.

I wonder if this is something new?

Suggestions.

Based on the information I'm seeing, the Vermont Service Center seems to be more representative of the 8 week lag, whereas the CSC cases seem to be closer to 2 weeks. This leads me to believe it has less to do with the VSC or mailing time, and more to do with the service center's processing time. This would make sense as it seems like the VSC is hauling ### in terms of approvals and might otherwise be lagging behind?

NOA2 approval on June 20th

Shipped to NVC on August 6

Case number on Aug 12

Thats almost 8 weeks

See? This corroborates my theory a little bit.

National Visa Center (Dept of State)How long, nowadays, will it take our approved case to get to the NVC?

The guide says it takes two weeks after the NOA2 (roughly) for your case to get to the visa center, but I just phoned them and they said 8 weeks. Does anyone have any recent experiences to clarify this timeline a little bit?

National Visa Center (Dept of State)NVC RECEIVED!!! Now what?

Hello fellow VJers!

This was my third day in a row calling the NVC to see if they have received our file from CSC.... and I was surprised to get good news! We waited 44 days. Now that we have an NVC case number, I have no idea what to do next! We are working with an immigration lawyer (I know, a waste of money) so she will certainly be helping us along the way, but we also wanted to be our own advocates and get the ball rolling.

Any advice or knowledge on next steps would be greatly appreciated!

Depending on which consulate you are filing with, go online and check out their Packet 3 requirements and start putting those together... things like a long-form birth certificate, police certificate, stuff that just takes time in general that you're going to want to get out of the way right away. Your fiance is going to need to fill out the I-134 for you and provide evidence that she can support you, so look into that as well, because he/she is going to need to mail you that stuff.

I hope this helps as a starting point.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionForm DS-230 Part 1 Question

Hey, I'm currently filling out form DS 230 part 1 (the one they ask you to fill out in Packet 3), and I'm running into some problems -

First off, where they ask you to fill out the times you've visited the U.S., I can't remember all of the times. My family has been to the US a lot, and like, I was a kid for a lot of visits. We used to go on yearly ski trips to Colorado, so trying to sort that out is like, a world of headaches. What do I do? Is there a cut-off date? IS there anyone I can call and ask?

Also, I haven't received packet 3 in the mail yet, but I do know that my application is at the Vancouver Consulate. can I just fax off this form before getting packet 3 in the mail? (You can find Vancouver's packet 3 online).

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionWaiting on Packet 3...

Kay, so our K-1 packet has already been approved, and arrived at the NVC on august 15th, and I've been waiting on Packet 3 (which has yet to come, I am the beneficiary.) What should I do? Is this a normal amount of time? Everyone says that half of the time you'll never even see packet 3, and that instead I should go ahead and fax off form DS-230 so that I can get packet 4...

I guess my question is as follows: Our approved petition arrived at the NVC on August 15th, and I have a VAC number. Should I go ahead and fax off my form DS-230 without waiting for packet 3 to arrive? Should I email the consulate with my case number and ask them if they've received it? My consulate is Vancouver; what do you think I should do?

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDo I sign my DS-156 form prior to interview?

Just as the title asks... I know that I don't sign my DS-156k, as it has to be done in front of a CO, but am I supposed to sign my otherwise completed DS-156? I'm getting ready for my interview next week.

Also, my girlfriend doesn't have a job (although she's gunning for one right now. She just spent a bunch of time in my home country) But her mom can be a co-sponsor. Moreover, I Have like, a ton of money saved up... I mean a ton. What is the Vancouver consulate's reaction to this sort of thing usually?

CanadaMy girlfriend just got the NOA2... now what do I do?

First and foremost, (I'm interviewing in Vancouver,) how long does it take between getting the NOA2 and the interview roughly? I'm just kind of planning regarding my work, life, etc. etc. etc.

Secondly, what else do I do? It seems like the process goes as follows - we wait two weeks, start calling the NVC, find out when they send our I129f package to the Vancouver consulate, and from there they send me a package of forms and things to fill out? And then from there what goes on?

I know I should collect a bunch of evidence of our continued relationship, which is pretty easy as I am at her house right now.

Any input would be appreciated, and so would links. I'm really just wondering what kind of experience I'm looking forward to as a Canadian.

Also, I live in Saskatchewan if anyone cares. Thanks!

CanadaFinal stages of Inteview Prep, wondering if I have everything

You need to provide a letter of intent as well. See: http://www.visajourn...ontent/examples K1 Related Forms -> Fiance(e) Letter of Intent

Sounds like you have all of your bases covered. Receipts are more important as they are considered primary evidence. Sounds like you have a lot of that.

One question: Were you together in the US for a year and a half or were you visiting back and forth? I only ask because I'm worried you've overstayed if you were in the US for that entire time. If not then ignore my question smile.png

Best of luck!

No no no, we did evrything completely legitimate. We were back and forth the whole time, 4 months being as long as any visit lasted, and on a student visa at that. We were back and forth a lot, and she was in canada a lot too.

CanadaFinal stages of Inteview Prep, wondering if I have everything

Kay, so I have my Packet 3, and I just wanted to post to see if I'm missing anything, or if anything slipped my mind, or whatever.

In terms of my Packet 3 Checklist and official documents, I have -

- A copy of my NOA2

- A Letter from my Fiance, signed and Dated, stating her intent to marry and legal ability to do so

- Two Affadavits of Support, one from my Fiance and one from her Mother, both of which have ample supporting evidence

- A Long-Form Birth Certificate

- My Passport, still valid for a few years

- My Police Certificate

 - My Passport Photographs

- My DS 156 and DS 156K immigration forms

In terms of Evidence of our continuing relationship, I have

- Dated Photos, depicting the two of us together, both in my hometown and her hometown, the most recent of which show us hanging out in a bar with her hometown friends

- Passport Stamps showing her arrival into Canada since the I-129 F petition

- Credit Card Statements Showing transactions in her hometown

- Hotel Bills on the way to her hometown

- Phone Bills outlining the both of us calling one-another

- A receipt for her engagement ring

- If need be, I can also produce sweet things she's made for me. Valentines and a congratulations card for my university graduation, and stuff like that.

Is there anything else I should get or procure? What else do I need? We really have little to no skype / facebook chats, because we always talk on video, and up until a couple of weeks ago, we were together, in each other's physical company, for a year and a half.

You schedule your interview. Packet 4 is just instructions on how to book your interview.

You're a beast. I was actually PM-ing you the same question, and you managed to beat me to the punch by actually responding to my query.

Thanks man, you are forever helpful.

CanadaI want to fax off my Packet 3 Checklist, but my fiance still has to mail me some documents...

I heard that the vancouver consulate schedules QUICK interviews, like, within a week or two of receiving packet 4. I don't know what the interview scheduling process is like, but I'm getting itchy to send off my Packet 3 checklist, so I'm wondering if I can do so before I have all of the documents from my fiance?

There is nothing we really have to wait on, all she needs to do is overnight me the papers that I need. What is it like getting packet 4? Do I pick my own interview date? If i send off the checklist, will I Get railroaded into a date that is too early for me?

Any help would be great!

thanks!

CanadaFollowing up on NOA2, and scheduling interview...

but I was also wondering: So should I just start faxing the required forms to the embassy? I have all that I need from the Vancouver Consulate.

GoldfingerNot TellingCanada2013-08-25 16:51:00
CanadaFollowing up on NOA2, and scheduling interview...

I assume the forms for Canadians is same for Philippines. But be sure to look at the list on the US Embassy website in Vancouver.   You will probably NOT receive a packet, only a hardcopy letter which does not say much more than your NOAA 2 with Case Number.

The forms are probably the same everywhere: I-156, I-156K, and I-157,  Please look at the Embassy website.  You can download those forms from the website or US State Dept website.

If you ever have a question about requirements DO NOT HESITATE TO CONTACT EMBASSY BY PHONE.  They are very helpful.  They will tell you which are the correct documents and how to complete the forms.  There are instructions that can be downloaded also, read those carefully.

I was born in Victoria, BC, Canada, 1953!!!!, became US Citizen age 7.  Now I am waiting for my Filipina fiancée to arrive in California tomorrow night, Monday.  Wow finally together.

I wish you both the best always.

Niall

I'm the benificiary, not the petitioner, so my fiance is sending me the I-134 stuff. Thanks for the advice too, I'll call the consulate tomorrow!

CanadaFollowing up on NOA2, and scheduling interview...

Okay, so apparently my K-1 Packet arrived at the NVC on August 15th, and it has been sent to the Vancouver consulate. I have not received packet 3 yet, but I have access to it online. I have a VAC number, and I'm wondering a few things:

Can I fax off the forms they ask for in Packet 3, even though they haven't sent it to me yet? I kind of want to get a move on in scheduling the interview.

I have all of the forms that Packet 3 asks for, for the most part, but I'm wondering what kind of evidence of our continuing relationship I should produce? Up until two weeks ago, we've spent the last two years in one-another's physical company, so we don't exactly have pages and pages of chat logs. We do, however, have pictures, and I have credit card statements showing purchases in her town, and passport stamps and such and so forth.

Other than that, I have my Police Certificate, my Long-Form Birth Certificate, my vaccination records, and my passport. I have a letter from her outlining her intent to marry me as well.

CanadaAnyone have any experience with credential evaluators? Who should I choose?

I am so jealous. I've already checked with my state, Kansas, and I have a step-by-step offering of what I have to do, which includes credential evaluation. Moreover, I have to take the same tests, assuming you took the Praxis test.

Might I ask which subject you teach?

I'm allowed to use any NACES.ORG accredited company. I'm trying to collect some testimonies here regarding the quality of said companies, as many of these companies host a litany of complaints with the BBB and various review websites.

CanadaAnyone have any experience with credential evaluators? Who should I choose?

Hey, all. I'm in the United States with a Work Authorization card and a pending Adjustment of Status, and I'm now working to get certified as a teacher in the United States, specifically Kansas. As a result, I have to get my Bachelor's in Education evaluated through a global credential evaluation service.

I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with any form of credential evaluation services, such as the ones listed on this website: www.naces.org/members.htm

I'm scared, because my initial research into these sorts of companies has been horrifying. All I have seen are litanies of complaints through the better business bureau, a world of shitty Yelp reviews, and extremely stiff price tags to go with it.

Does anyone have any experience with this sort of thing? If so, which company did you use, and how did it work out for you?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsK1 VISA APPROVED!

Interview went really smoothly!
They didn't even ask to see any of my evidence (apart from the financial stuff)
I had everything they asked for and answered all their questions confidently and then the magic words were spoken

"Ok Joanne I see no problems here, I'm glad to tell you your visa has been approved, congratulations!"

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!

Hey, I'm looking at interviewing soon (in Canada though). Let me ask you something: Did they ask you to see financial evidence of your being able to support yourself, or did they look for an Affadavit of support? I ask because I have more than enough money to support myself for like, a looooong time.

GoldfingerNot TellingCanada2013-06-24 21:22:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNOA2 Approval! Now what on earth do I do?

OK, I did too, and I was in the same situation you're in now, so let me share a couple things with you. I was visiting my fiance in the states when I got the NOA2. I kind of thought that might happen, so I had everything in order--and with me--for the next steps. I planned to just hang out there til 2 or 3 weeks before the interview when I'd return to BC to get everything finalized for the move. The thing is, the consulate in Vancouver is really on top of things! If you take a look at my timeline, you'll see suddenly everything happened at once. When it came time to schedule the interview, (a Thursday) they actually had interview times available on the following Monday! I was still in LA, so there was no way I could make it, and get the medical done beforehand. I ended up scheduling it for a week later. So I left LA on the first Tuesday, had my medical on Thursday, interview the next Tuesday, visa in hand on Friday morning and, on the plane back to LA on Friday afternoon. It was all ridiculously rushed, and nerve-wracking, so just keep that in mind re: Vancouver. (I think they often wait several weeks for an interview time in Montreal).

Also, if you haven't got your police cert yet, get it from the Commissionaires--they are the fastest. (and you'll also need one from any other country you've lived in more than 6 months--hope you've got those already, if you need them, cuz they can take a loooooong time).

Holy cow! I honestly thought the process would take a lot longer than that. From getting the NOA2 to your visa it was like, the span of a month!

A few more questions here: While I'm here, should I get my Affadavits of support together and a bunch of other evidence? I guess we can get notarized letters from her friends and family purporting the validity of our relationship. In fact, seeing as you have done this, what should I get together while I'm here?

She's been with me for a long while in my home country, so she's without a job right now, so her mother is going to co-sponsor. She wants to get a job / is looking right now (with even more hurry considering our approval) so I'm hoping that works out but I'm worried. How receptive is the vancouver consulate to mother co-sponsors? Also, I have more than a sizeable sum of money saved up. Will that contribute or does that matter at all?

Finally, is there anything else you can think of, and can I PM you if I think of anything? Sorry to come off as super-needy, but it's nerve-wracking and really nice to have someone with such first-hand experience offering me some guidance.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNOA2 Approval! Now what on earth do I do?

The I129f my U.S. girlfriend sent in was just approved today! For anybody wondering, we are with the California Service Center, and we filed at the end of March. March 28 I believe is our NOA1. But I have a few, by which I mean a boatload of questions.

#1 - How long between now and my interview? I'm from Canada and she's from the states (Duh.) We just got approved today, and right now I'm actually with her in her hometown lol.

#2 - What on earth should I do? Is there any documents I should grab while I'm here? Where do I go now? what do we do? lol. I'm kind of at a loss for what I should slap together, what she should get together, and everything like that.

Thanks in advance! I'm excited but also crapping a brick O_O

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsGot I-797 "notice of action" in mail (we're approved) what is this

I am not sure if you got the noa1 or noa2 but don't expect any instructions. It is up to you read and learn the next steps here. I would advise to fill in your timeline and then go to whatever section of the forum is appropriate for you and your fiancees country and find out the next steps to take.  Each embassy is different and have different rules and steps.

If it is NOA2 then the row 4th on the right of the petitioner's address will have something like this " Notice Type: Approval Notice valid from **-**-2013 to **-**-2013.

Also they would say something in the note that the above petition has been approved, and forwarded to the listed consulate.

This is useful - It does say that on the paper. So it's the NOA2 then?

you received the NOA1.  you still have a long road ahead for the NOA2!

It's the NOA2

One simple question from me answered by you will help you.

How long ago did you File the 129-F?

Four months ago

Thats my feeling as well.  The Mailing does not go to the Beneficiary and to the Petitioner.  First time seeing a Notice of Action.  LOL  Otherwise, he/she would know and be more knowledgable.

He / she would be more knowledgeable? Would you guys settle down and stop being so arseholish? She / we have been approved, as we have checked our status online. It says "post decision activity - On July 30th, 2013, we mailed you a notice that we approved this I129f petition for Fiance. Please follow any instructions on the notice." and now we received this thing in the mail. Our K-1 is on its way to the NVC, and then to the vancouver consulate. We filed like, at the end of march 2013. We were just wondering what this thing is, because we expected to get an NOA2.

In the future I'd advise you to read her first post, and be marignally less condescending.

I think that actually receiving packet 3 sometimes never happens? I think it's expected that you find it online and fill it out/send it. I'm don't understand what you're asking really, but all I know is that as soon as the embassy gets your I29f, you can send them packet 3, regardless of whether or not you receive it in the mail.

Here is a link where you can get Packet 3 from the Vancouver Consulate.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAbout to send off I-129F and have some final questions

He was a Network Admin at Baker University just south of Lawrence. I really liked Lawrence and there’s a Brit store there where you can pick up Smarties and some of the tastes of home. As well a World Market store where you can get some more familiar food there (Kinder Chocolate). They are definitely Jayhawk crazy there!

What you have listed in your first post and above actually sound pretty good to me. Try and scan or photocopy her Visitor’s Record before she goes home so you have that as well. Canadians aren’t as highly scrutinized from what I read on the board.

Are you a Westerner or an Easterner? If you are a Westerner you will interview in Vancouver (medical in Surrey). If East, then Montréal for the interview and Toronto or Montreal for the medical.

I'm from Western Canada. Saskatchewan, in specific. I already did photocopy the visitor's record and stuff ya.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAbout to send off I-129F and have some final questions

If you have credit card statement or the like showing you guys were in the same location at the same time that’ll work as well.

You drive to KS? I live in Lethbridge and used to fly down to visit hubby when he was in Lawrence because I thought it was way too far for me.

Hell yeah I did. That's cool he was in Lawrence. Was he attending KU or something? My girlfriend and I have been there! We wanna move there it's like, the greatest city I dunno. Also I drove 'cause I was on a student exchange, so being without my car would have been pretty shitty.

I have a credit card statement showing I've been in her hometown, but she doesn't have a corroborating statement because she doesn't have a credit card? She's also here with me so our access to her documents are kinda limited. She might have a bank statement showing deposits or withdrawals that line up with my credit card statement. My credit card statement, however, shows obvious evidence of like, elongated residence. Also, I have bank statements in my name that went to her US residence. Also, I have a social security card that was issued in August. She also has a "Visitor's record" right now, which is this full-page printout from the Canadian Border stating that she is, in fact, currently in Canada (you have to give it back when you leave). However, we don't have a matching set of credit card statements necessarily showing that we bought something at the exact same place at the exact same time? I dunno. It seems like that would be pretty redundant though considering I have mail addressed to her current legal residence. I dunno. What do you think?

No the affidavit of support is not needed to be notarized.

I meant the affidavit that Rascal proposed, consisting of a friend or family vouching for us having met.

Also, I have some color photos printed of us. What should I mount them on, if anything? Should I tape them to a piece of paper or something?

photocopies of airline tickets are also good if you still have them. Also affidavits from friends and family are also really good. I posted about affidavids from froends/ family in another thread with info and a template link. I will post the link on here for you.

Does the affidavit need to be notarized or anything like that, or should I simply follow your template there?

Also, I don't have any plane ticket stubs because we've never flown to see one another. I always just drive. I suppose we could explain that in a letter.

Also, thanks for the advice, Hikergirl!

My girlfriend and I are hitting the home stretch in terms of sending off our I-129F documents and have a few questions...

We are both currently in Canada and are shipping them off from Canada. Should I just use a courier service like UPS? Or should I use Canada Post?

Do we have enough evidence that we met in person in the last two years? I have credit card statements showing purchases from her hometown in the USA, she has a passport with stamps and a "Visitor's Record" that the border issued that is still valid (as we are still together here in Canada. It states that she is allowed to stay until May.) I have letters from Commerce Bank in her hometown (hays, Kansas) as I was attending University there on an exchange program last semester (from August until December 2012). I also have a card from Fort Hays State University informing me that I made it on the Honor Roll / Dean's list, and I have a tax document mailed in my name to where we lived in the United States. I'm also pretty sure that I even have mail from Fort Hays State University addressed directly to my Canadian residence. I have my Canadian passport with stamps showing entry into the United States as well, one of which on my Student Visa. I have a Social Security number, and can even send a copy of my social security card if need be. We have some photos of ourselves together as well. Moreover, our passport-style photos are stamped and dated from the Walmart in my home city in Canada, as, like I said, we are currently together right now. I could include Facebook conversations and all of that sort of thing but I mean... is that even necessary at this point? I don't know what the system is like, but to me it seems basically irrefutable that we've seen each other in the past two years. In fact, we've literally spent the last ENTIRE YEAR in each other's physical company.

Also, should our letters outlining our intent to marry be typed using the template on this site, or should we hand-write them?

Any insight would be greatly appreciated, and if there is anything worth mentioning that I haven't touched on, let me know. We want to start our lives together, and don't want any delays : (

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresBinding, fastening, mailing the I-129f
Kay, I'm getting my final package together to mail it. Just a few quick questions now...

A) I'm going to try to overnight it, or send it the fastest express way possible. Which lockbox address should I use? I'm assuming the express one but I'm not sure.

B) I'm just going to use little paperclips to hold together individual sections, and a big binder clip to hold the whole mess together. I'm going to use tabs to identify the different sections, and post-it notes on the documents themselves, along with highlighters to call attention to whatever pieces of evidence are important.

The passport-style photos are to be in plastic bags, ziplock bags, stapled to a piece of paper and attached to the G325a?

Any other photos are to be placed in a plastic bag and stapled to a piece of paper? Does each photo need its own plastic bag or should I put all of the photos in one bag?

That's pretty well all I have to ask about.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresConcern about affadavit of support in K-1 Visa Interview

We've already applied for a K-1 visa, and are like, awaiting our NOA2. I thought you couldn't apply for a CR-1 through Canada or else I would have done that!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresConcern about affadavit of support in K-1 Visa Interview

Hey, I'm a Canadian and my Fiance is American. She doesn't have a job, and so she doesn't meet the minimum requirements for the affadavit of support. However, her mom more than meets the requirements, and can file as a co-sponsor, and I have like, 20,000 dollars saved up that I can show, establishing I won't be a charge of the state. We are allowed to stay at her mothers, constituting free rent. Should I be comfortable with this? Should my girlfriend get a job? We are living together at my hometown, while I am working so I can save up a lot of money for when we move to the states.

On another note, how long do you traditionally have to wait before you are allowed to work after arriving in the states on a K-1 visa?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion about Co-sponsors and Affadavit of Support

Hey, I'm a Canadian, any my fiance is American. We filed for our K-1 in March, and are awaiting our NOA2. In the meantime, We are kind of worried about the interview, inasmuch as my girlfriend doesn't have a job (She's living with me in Canada right now.) Her mom, however, is going to be my co-sponsor, and I have like, 20,000 dollars saved up, so I have plenty of money to keep myself from becoming a "State charge."

Should I be worried? Should I be racing her home so she can get a job?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPhotocopies of K-1 package
Kk, so the copy of the package is just for safekeeping in case it gets lost? I am the beneficiary and my girlfriend is the applicant, and we are both in Canada right now so we put the package together ourselves.

Am I actually supposed to take an exact copy?? I have a lot of the ####### kicking around here but we sent an original document of my being on the honor roll at the university in her home town. I could amass a ton of continued evidence of our relationship, but reproducing the exact package we sent off woild be a stressful and unsure process.

So do I need it exactly?
