K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSeveral Questions
QUOTE
Many people have changed jobs and/or residences during the process. You just have to list and sometimes explain.

Thank you for your speedy reply! If I am to change residences after I've filed, how do I let USCIS know this? Is there an additional form or a phone number for me to inform them of this change?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSeveral Questions
Hello to everyone. First of all, I'm betting that several of these questions have already been covered but I'm new to the board and to the K-1 Visa process so please forgive me. Also, I don't have a timeline set up on my profile yet because we haven't sent in the paperwork yet and we're still exploring and trying to understand the process. Anyway, here are my questions.

Due to the type of job I have accepted, I may have to take a position in the meantime as a filler, until I can begin my original job. Has anyone filed for the visa expecting a move of residence or a change of job within the timeline of the visa processing? I'd like to file asap of course but I'm not sure if this will cause even more problems and set backs. If possible I'd like to file with the job and residence I have now and then change those pieces of information, if neccessary, along the way. Anyone that's experienced a similar situation, please advise.

Second, from the day that the visa is granted, how long does my fiance have to enter the U.S.? I know that upon entry we have 90 days to marry. But I've heard differing answers as far as the time he has to actually get here, one was 90 days, one said six months. Which is right?

Lastly, anyone that has used the Vermont Center and completed the process, could you offer your own personal experience as far as length of time. From the day you sent in your application, til your fiance reached the U.S., what are we looking at?

Again, I apologize for repeated questions, I'm new to the board. And thank you everyone for any advice or answers you can offer.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAffidavit of Support form
I'm not sure I'll have 6 months worth of pay stubs. I graduated from college in May and because my fiance was here in the states with me I didn't want to be working. I've just recently taken a job, since he's returned to the UK.
[/quote]

6 months is just what people use. As long as you can show enough to prove your income you will be fine.

Thanks so much for your help!

I would say go ahead and file.

You can have a cosponsor on the affidavit of support so that should be no problem. This is not needed until the interview stage anyway and the way things are going at VSC you may get approved sometime in January 2008.

If you have started your new job by then you you can provide them with a letter of employment to prove your income and also your most recent paystubs (most send 6 months worth).

Hope this helps.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAffidavit of Support form
Hello again!

I was hired into a government job and am awaiting my final clearance and start date. Until then, I'm working at a not so glamorous job- a pizza joint. I'd like to file asap and I'm not sure when my job will come through so I'm wondering, isn't it possible to have a co-sign on the financial affidavit? Could someone, my mother for example, who has the job and income sign with me? I know I'm likely not making enough at the Pizza Shop to be 125% above the poverty line. Furthermore, I just graduated in May and haven't been on the payroll for long so I won't have a W-2 when I file. What do I do?

Thanks for your help!!!

Have you sent in your visa petition yet? How far along are you? We're waiting on my job and his police certificates before we send all in. I'm getting really anxious. I just want to get it in there, the quicker it's there, the quicker he's here. We're trying to plan our wedding for next October so barring big problems we'll be alright and ready then. It's just frustrating as I'm sure everyone knows here.

I'm still very early in the process. My timeline is here. You know you don't need the police certificates to file the K-1 petition. In fact, you don't even need a job at this point. If you meet the criteria for the K-1 petition, you might want to start putting it all together now and get it submitted. It's taking longer and longer for the petitions to be processed, so the earlier the better. Take a look at the K-1 guide, linked here.

LOL thanks. I think at this point I'm thoroughly addicted to Russian women. Actually I'm just addicted to one particular Russian woman. (way to cover my a** there!) smile.gif

My Russian is getting better, but still ????? ?????. smile.gif

Been there done that, have the divorce decree to prove it. smile.gif

I'm having trouble getting the petition to download. My computer keeps telling me that the file is broken and can't be repaired. Is it just my laptop or is the link down?

And I bet your Russian will be great soon. She'll teach ya. :-) My fiance and I chatter back and forth po-russky.

Haha, so I've heard. Everyone here says, "You went all the way to Russia to meet a kiwi?" Where in Russia is your fiance from? I lived in St. Petersburg for 4 months in 2005.

She's from Kazan. If it all goes south maybe I'll head over to Moscow and find me a cute little Kiwi. smile.gif

Is there any specific link where it shows the poverty guidelines, how much I need to make per year? I just graduated from college and am starting a full time job very soon. But I won't have a W-2 or a full year in when I file. Should I simply file with my mother as a co-sponser. I don't want to get denied because of my lack of finances and recent hirings.

2007 Poverty Guidelines.

If you're concerned that you may not make the poverty guidelines, you should file with a co-sponsor. Trying to add a co-sponsor later will result in frustrating delays.

I'm pretty sure I'll make the poverty guidelines. I'm working right now, not even full time and am very close to making it. And I've applied for several full time positions. In short, I'll be working 2 jobs, one full time and one part time. I've read posts about being denied or almost being denied because of lack of finances, not a big enough bank balance, not owning your own home, etc. Has anyone heard of this? Is meeting and/or exceeding the poverty level enough?

Furthermore, if I file in October/November will I even have to turn in my financial papers before I get my W-2? I will have my W-2 at the end of the year, it just won't show a full year's income as I haven't had the job a full year yet. I feel like if this were a more personal process I could explain myself better. Things can seem so different when it is all through paperwork.

ONLY form I-134 used at the visa interview needs notarization, nothing else.

Thank you! This is what I thought but ya know, there is so much info out there that sometimes I doubt myself. :-)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat needs to be notarized?
I'm getting the initial packet together. Does the 129 need to be notarized? I think I read that the financial affadavit needs the notary but I want to make sure I get the right ones done. And should I have three "official" notarized copies, one to send, one for me, and one for him? Any suggestions are appreciated.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresLiving at Home
I live at home with my mother but am the only sponsor on my fiance's visa petition. Does that mean that I am only required to meet the poverty limit for myself? She has her own job and supports herself of course.

Just one more.I have dual citizenship.British and New Zealand.I live in England.Should i put British or New Zealand?..

Use the citizenship of where you live, "England" You should be interviewing in London.

You are lucky, New Zealand is one of the countries that the Emabssy wont need you to get a police cert from, they will handle that for you.

I'm Lightstalker's fiance. I'm filling out the 129F and I put his citizenship as New Zealand/UK. Am I really only supposed to list the country he lives in now? Even though he has citizenship in both? unsure.gif

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresBirth Certificate
QUOTE (Krikit @ Oct 1 2007, 09:11 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Yes, a certified copy of your BC is fine. You just need to send a photocopy with the submission, though. Not the original.

The petition requires you to list all countries to which the beneficiary holds citizenship. So, yes, you need to enter both the UK and NZ.

Thank you so much. I had a bit of a panic moment last night when I couldn't find my original birth cert. :-)
Glad to know a certified copy is just as good.
Thanks, Megan

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresBirth Certificate
Hi all,
For some reason I can't locate my original birth certificate right now. A certified duplicate copy is just as good right? It's simply an official copy. I can get one within the week from my state congressman's office. Actually, I'll probley get at least two, one to copy and send in (keeping the original), and one to send to my fiance when we're shifted to the consolate.

Also, I was reading one of my fiance's posts. He asked about his citizenship, he has both UK and New Zealand but he lives in the UK. On the 129F petition under his citizenship, I wrote UK/New Zealand. Should I write both or only UK since he's living in England now?

Thanks in advance, Megan

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresG-325A Overlaps
Hello there,
I'm not sure how to follow through on my G-325A as far as employment goes. I'm 22 so I was in high school five years ago. At this time, I also had a part time job at a pizza joint. I was going to simply write that I was a student in high school and then again in college and include an attachment explaining my part time job and my workstudy during my education. However, there was my summer break between May-August, when I transitioned from high school to college. Something like this

Aug 1997-May 2003 High School
August 2002-August 2003- Pizza Restaurant
August 2003-May 2007 College
August 2003-May 2007 College Workstudy

It all overlaps. Should I put high school, my pizza shop job, and college then clarify the part times in the attachment. I'm sorry it's confusing. But any advice would be appreciated.
Megan
