Russia, Ukraine and Belarus	Oh those wild and wonderful Russian Women	Without going into a lot of detail all at once, let's just say she became very much "American-ized". Once she had a driver's license and a car to drive (~my~ 2nd car) she just decided she could go where she wanted, when she pleased. Simple questions about where she had been turned into long discussions, even lied to my face more than once about some things. And then she got a minimum wage job in a beauty salon, and had disposable income to spend as she pleased. A small fortune in Russia perhaps, not really much here, but almost NONE of it came back to the house until I started insisting she pay for gas and insurance on the car she was driving. I finally asked her to give me $50 every two weeks from her pay check to help pay for bills... even getting this was like pulling teeth... There were other issues that occured early in our relationship, I won't go into all of those here, but let's just say that when she was in Russia, she told me her main interest was in having "family and husband, home and children". Once she got to America she was working in a beauty salon, NOT a good place to get "americanized" either, and totally into her own shopping for her own things (never for house or for food, supplies, garden, etc.) Meanwhile I'd bought a house a few months after we got married. I told her the first few years would be a bit tough financially and things would be "tight". Most americans can understand this. All she knew is here I'm getting this big paycheck, but she had more "disposable" income than me in her minimum wage job. Because I was paying for EVERYTHING else... food, insurance, cable, electricity, mortgage, credit cards, you know the American bill-paying list we go through... It got so I couldn't tell her ANYTHING, not even how to do X, Y or Z without getting back"why is this so important?", or "Lena says I should do this..." Finally I was like, well go marry Lena then if you want to listen to her instead of to your husband... mind you this wasn't a one time occurance but it felt like "friends" from beauty salon and Russian girlfriend (married and bored in America) were more interesting to her than "home, family, husband". Forget children, she decided pretty quickly she didn't want this, because then she'd be "staying home all day" and "never get to talk to adults". Then what the hell did I get married for, and why the hell did you tell me you wanted this when you were in Russia? <snip...> -- Dan That's kind of sad and aggravating at the same time, to be "tricked" that way, if I may say that... I'm from Asia who's gone to US on a work visa, just got married and applying for AOS and really hoping to be able to stay here. Although my job sometimes suck (okay - most of the time), it's good to have some income at hand just to be able to treat my husband out for a dinner or something. However when my work visa ends, I will have to quit my job and wait for the EAD docs approval before I could work again. Although my main focus is to be able to stay here and be with my husband, sooner or later I will have to seek work opportunities just to make it easier for him and for us. But that's not my main focus now. Life here is definitely easier than my home country but I never initially enjoyed it until he came. K-3 Spouse Visa Process & Procedures	Questions. Anxious about wife's interview in Manila.	Hello there, My wife is scheduled for her interview at the US Embassy in Manila in a few days, and I am just very anxious and have some questions for anyone who has been through this process before. Maybe just help set my mind at ease for the big day. ..... Her passport was released to the people at St. Luke's during her interview, so it should be with the folks at the embassy as we speak. They did not give my wife her shots while we were there. They told her it was a bad idea because I was there with her that month and we had been sexually active...although I don't know the reason for this. They gave her a spreadsheet and said she could just get her shots when she came to the US. .... -M Most likely your wife needs vaccinations that are not recommended while pregnant - maybe because it might affect the fetus when it develops, I don't know, but that's most likely the medical reason. I just got my required vaccinations, and the doctors told me that I should not plan to get pregnant for at least a month after vaccinations (which I don't really plan to anytime soon). If they gave her a vaccination record sheet I would say you should make sure to have her take them once you two are both sure she is not pregnant. I think vaccinations should be easier than the actual physicals, because it can be done thru a clinic covering your insurance if it's more cost-efficient, however, the records need to still be verified by the USCIS-regognized civil surgeons, so if you decide to have the vaccinations from a different clinic, make sure you provide the vaccination records for sign-off from the civil surgeon. I just did all my medical exam and vaccinations with the civil surgeon, so my case is different than yours. But they gave me the option to do the vaccines at a different clinic if I prefer to do so and return to them with the records once done. As for the interview... well checking your stuff it seems you got everything pretty well-covered, so you shouldn't have problems. Just getting general opinion of people who've undergone the same process. GC expires 06/12, so preparing to file this March. This may be a commonly discussed topic, but I'm asking it again -- is it beneficial to hire a lawyer to process removal of conditions (ROC) for a conditional resident? We have quite a bit of evidence during the past couple years since I got my residency: - filed taxes jointly - car under registered both our names, and we both use it (and insured to both our names) - health insurance where USC spouse has declared me a beneficiary - opened up a joint bank accounts - travel itineraries with both our names - photos of travel, special occassions, and greeting cards addressed to us - apartment lease under both our names Only thing I know we need to send out are: 1) I-751 (with copies of green card) 2) Processing fee in a check to the appropriate service center 3) Evidences of bona-fide relationship Let me know if I need to note anything else important? Here's a forum listing what happens when you travel while I-751 is still pending. http://www.visajourn...751-is-pending/ I think the safest bet is for you to at least have the I-751 NOA1 before you go around traveling during the expiry of your GC. Otherwise you need to be back before it expires and file the I-751. IANAL but that's what I'd do. I-751 form may be submitted within the 90 days prior to the expiration of your GC. When is the expiration of your GC? If by the time you return from getting your passport from CA, your GC is still not expired (and obviously within the 90-day prior to its expiration), you should be fine with traveling in and out of US. If, though, your GC is already expired at that point of your return, it's a different story. I have just been informed that I will need to get a new Canadian passport prior to traveling to Turkey at the end of April. My application for the i-751 is also being sent out at the end of April. Will I have problems coming back into the country if I get a new passport, leave the US to go abroad, and then try to come back into the country PRIOR to sending the I-751???I am so worried. You do have a good amount of documentation, I commend you on being able to compile all of those! So you're saying that you sent double as much as what I listed? What else did you send, if I may ask? Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussion	ROC: is this enough?	I just submitted mine couple days ago, waiting on a response, but what you listed here is probably half of what I've sent. I read the guidelines in the USCIS website about sending application packets (it was updated couple years ago, but still, it's in their website) that we don't need to send a huge stack, just the more relevant stuff that proves your financial investment on the relationship and proof of cohabitation. I initially put mine in a 3-ring binder, but the site said that the packet should be bound in a way where it's easy to take apart and file their way. In the end my packet was a quarter inch thick, carefully clipped at the top with a huge ACCO fastener, and post-it labeled tabs at the bottom, for easier reference. I couldn't find a Manila envelope so I just clipped it on a file folder labeled in front with the document title (ORIGINAL APPLICATION: I-751 so-and-so), with the A#. P.S. The stack had 3 holes on the left from my initial binding. I killed our printer/copier toner in the process of printing copies so I wasn't about to re-do the whole thing, but I figured the 3 holes wouldn't be important. Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussion	I-751 April 2012 filers	I'm getting antsy. I signed up for notifications on the CSC website (same as what I did for AOS) -- do the notifications apply for the ROC? Does it get "touched", too? And we're moving to our new home, so we'd also have to file for a change of address very, very soon. Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussion	I-751 April 2012 filers	Oh my, I hope this doesn't happen to us as we're planning to get a new home by October - November and based on the timelines for CSC my application's approval (if everything goes well) is estimated to arrive at about that same time frame. Did you file your change of address online on the USCIS website? Did you submit the AR-11 form and completed the 2nd step (I think it was supposed to be a 2-step process for my case of pending ROC)? As far as I know this should be done 10 days after you moved into the new address. You mentioned that you had someone change it during your biometrics (not sure if I understood your post correctly) -- I'm pretty #######, so if I hadn't already done so before I had the biometrics I would've gone online too and also did the necessary steps to complete the change of address as mandated by the instructions in the USCIS website, just to be sure. It sounds like you have multiple cases where you address mismatched. Since you called USCIS and they said they've changed it and would take 30 days to be in the system you can follow up after 30 days. Make sure you have the confirmation # or something from that call. I would think at this point trying to do an online change of address would mess things up more because it could end up being a "duplicate request" (because you already called and placed a request for it -- if you get what I mean). As for USPS did you try correcting your address online (usps.com)? I had done a change of address when I switched apartments and it was painless for me. The USPS online form requires you to specify the date when they'll start forwarding the mails to the new address. As for your horse supplement website it's kind of odd for a website to not accept the word "Street" (must be the way they built their website). Have you tried other variations -- say "St"? Bottomline, I'd backtrack at USPS and USCIS mainly to resolve the issue. It would probably help at least if you signed up for email/text alerts for your USCIS application so in case the address problem isn't resolved yet you'd at least know if it was approved or RFE or if card was mailed out. At least you can pester them even more at that point before it falls through the cracks. (...snip...) Even we called the different companies, it seems that in their system, they can't get it corrected!!! I even tried to update it online on my account where I order my horse supplements, I can't write Street...their system won't take it. We did our address change at USCIS. When I went for my Bio, the person put my new address in the computer and it took it. He said if I would not had done it online, the computer would not have taken the new address. I was feeling safe but today we still got mail with the wrong address on it from someone that we called and asked them to correct it. They said it's done but still wrong address. We even talked to the manager at the post office Monday and he called us back yesterday. He said, he took care of the problem. He also said that the persons who deliver the mail were still thinking that we were living on 102nd Place??? I am a bit worried that if USCIS sent me something I would not get it! I am so glad that I got my Bio letter 2 days before moving!!! If anyone has suggestions or has experience same kind of problem please let me know what I should do. I really don't know what to do to fix this issue. It's like our street doesn't exist! Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussion	I-751 April 2012 filers	I didn't send affirmation letters or affidavits on my packet, but I think the letter should have wording from family and friends that they know you, and that you and your spouse reside in the same address -- basically proof of cohabitation from a 3rd party. Some people submit formal, notarized affidavits. I just didn't want to go that route just yet, unless they ask for an RFE. I just believed what we have is enough proof (e.g. joint tax returns, joint bank statements, joint apartment leases, joint car loan/insurance/title, joint health insurance -- anything "joint"). Good luck! Well,does anyone send "Affidavits sworn to or affirmed by at least two people who have known both of you since yor conditional residence was granted and have personal knowledge of your marriage and relationship" as a part of the evidence? Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussion	I-751 April 2012 filers	Based from what I read from the USCIS guidelines for sending packets (I lost the link but I read it 10 times lol ), a Manila envelope is fine, just make sure it is labeled with the A#, and the name of the form and type of submission (e.g. ORIGINAL SUBMISSION: I-751 PETITION FOR REMOVAL OF CONDITIONS...). They prefer the file attached at the top part with ACCO fasteners, and if you want to place tabs, they prefer it tabbed at the bottom. Anyway, that's what I did. For multiple applications (for kids, etc), each packet should be bound separately by a rubber band. Basically, there's no set guidelines on how they want it fastened, but they state that if you prefer to bind it, make sure the binding is easily taken out for them to easily file their own way. One thing I kept in mind is that, if I were an IO, and I am super busy, what type of application would I prefer that would definitely make my life easier? Philippines	Passport renewals after marriage (before applications)	this is just my idea, since your passport will expire soon plus you got married, i believe you have to apply in person to renew your passport, why dont you just bring your marriage cert w/ you together with your hubby's copy of ID (in san fran consulate when i reported my marriage they asked for a copy of my husband's ID {passport, DL})... that way the consulate of chicago can register your marriage in Phil, by then you can have your name change in your husband's last name. when i filed for aos, my passport was still on my maiden name and i didnt report my marriage till last june 2009, and have my passport change in phil in my married name last dec... hope this help This is good knowledge! Hi, I am from Philippines under L1 visa working in MN and I just got married to a US citizen (my husband) a week ago. My passport is about to expire in a few weeks (visa still valid till next year), and I know that I need to get the passport renewed in the consulate somewhere in Chicago. We are also under the process of getting an immigration lawyer to start paperwork for AOS. I am wondering if there is an ideal timing for me to get my passport renewed, could I do it even if the AOS hasn't started yet or will it be better if I renew when the AOS has been filed. Does it make any difference if I file it before or after the paperwork has started? Take note that I have changed my name upon marriage. My passport is about to expire in a few weeks (visa still valid till next year), and I know that I need to get the passport renewed in the consulate somewhere in Chicago. We are also under the process of getting an immigration lawyer to start paperwork for AOS. I am wondering if there is an ideal timing for me to get my passport renewed, could I do it even if the AOS hasn't started yet or will it be better if I renew when the AOS has been filed. Does it make any difference if I file it before or after the paperwork has started? Take note that I have changed my name upon marriage. I just want to avoid redundancy in processing - do I have to renew under my new name, or will I still use my original name? Hopefully this forum could get me some answers. Thanks. Philippines	Question on way old vacc records	I am planning to go set-up an appointment for the medical exam (I-693 or sumthin) in the next week or so, and requirements said something about having vaccination records with me. Now I know I have them back in Manila but I will have that shipped to me first. The records show that my last vaccination was when I was around 11 years old. I'm 27 now. Does it make any easier if I still have my records or should I just go do the full vaccination and assume I don't really have vaccination records? I just want to know if I should wait for my records to be delivered to me or if I could just go ahead and have them do the exam without them. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks! Philippines	Report of Marriage question	Does anyone know up to how long after the marriage that I should file for ROM? I saw somewhere it can be done within 12 months of the marriage. Can you file for ROM thru mail or should it have to be in person? Due to job scheduling I have to get renewals of passport as soon as possible but I haven't received all copies of my vital records (i.e. birth certificate) yet to be able to file for ROM at the same time. Philippines	Report of Marriage - what else is it needed for?	Just a comment... Right now I'm planning to renew my passport because it is expiring but in the interest of time I might not be able to file ROM for this at the same time, because my documents aren't arriving promptly. I'm in the US right now under work visa. So I decided that if my documents don't arrive in time before I go to the consulate to renew my passport, I am filing passport renewals marking myself as "Single" for now, and then send out the ROM later once I get all the other required docs. It will be additional hassle to go back to the consulate in person and renew for a passport name change in the near future, but due to my work sched I can't really schedule a day off in such short notice. I prepared passport renewals application for single and married (in case the documents arrive at the last minute), just to be sure. And my renewals is in the next few days so good luck to me. Philippines	US and PH name change discrepancy	You can request the Philippine Consulate to issue you a "Certificate of One and the Same Person" Should I get this from PH or US? Will they be any different? It's sort of confusing figuring out which affidavit I should get. Philippines	US and PH name change discrepancy	Hi, I just had my PH passport renewed, and the PH consul told me that they will move my old surname as my new middle name since it's the law in the Philippines. Problem is, when I got married, I just replaced my surname with my new surname and kept the old middle name. I wanted to keep everything consistent but I wasn't aware that it was a law to move surname to middle name when you get married.
