PhilippinesUS embassy Manila, interview apparel
My fiancée is very concerned about what to wear to her interview (she doesnt know the date yet, our NOA2 was just approved) she doesn't know what the requisites are: business, casual, etc.

The main reason she is concerned is she lives in the province, and the stores there do not have anything decent as far as dresses go (I know from first hand knowledge...we shopped there for our pamanhikan) but she will have cash on hand when she gets to Manila to buy something nice...she just wants to know what is required to wear.

If anyone has any knowledge on this subject, please let us know...she tends to worry about things like this wink.gif

Thanks in advance!

PhilippinesHiring a laywer for K1
actually, with our case, i couldn't disagree more. we hired a lawyer (an international lawyer, who is accustomed to these cases) and judging by the timelines on here, i haven't seen a single couple move through the process faster than we have.

so, based on personal experience, i would say it is definitely worth it to have someone to take care of alot of the hassle, the headaches, and answering of questions. plus he organized everything and made sure it was perfect before it was sent.

it may also have helped that im in the military, and have a pretty intensive background check done by the government before i got my "job"

so, based on how quickly we have been moving along, i would say it was worth it...to us at least.

PhilippinesBeads and pearls
QUOTE (dannyrmartin1 @ Mar 25 2008, 10:46 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

cool, thanks...although i see nothing about pearls or beads...so i will assume that its ok to bring them...and probably declare them.

PhilippinesBeads and pearls
my fiancée will be bringing pearls and bead work and other accouterments to the united states....in her checked luggage. it is her hobby, should this present any kind of a problem with immigration? they are all loose, not strung together yet, and eventually she hopes to sell some and give others as gifts...the total value of the beading kit and the pearls/beads is around 300 dollars US....anyone foresee a problem getting through customs with these items?

i think as long as she declares that she has them and the purpose, it shouldnt be a problem....but i cant be sure. anyone know? i dont know where the line between importing for sale and a hobby crosses.... do you?

PhilippinesQuestion about "lifetime" of a k1 visa
QUOTE (lovda_pi @ Mar 25 2008, 09:53 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I was also in the military when i met my first wife who was a foreign national from the Philippines. I was stationed on subs as a Radioman with a TS SSBI clearance, and had no problems marrying her, what are the new requirements, cuz I would say don't worry about the military saying no, i have only heard of one case and that was because she belong to some group deemed terrorist by our government. Good luck..

im a CTI2, mine is TS/SCI (i think thats what you meant since SSBI means single scope background investigation...i had that too)...its a bit more stringent these days. its not a problem to marry her, its a matter of getting the paper work in and cleared before i CAN marry her. someone in SSO dropped the ball and told me my next step was getting married and informing chief...not true, i informed them of it, which is on record, but i needed to file these forms....which are a bit late now since i wasnt aware i needed them. so its not that i CANT marry her, i just need the permission, so to speak. so its just getting the paperwork through, and then waiting for approval...and i dont want to bring her here and burn up the three months waiting for approval, you know?
elar14MalePhilippines2008-03-25 22:13:00
PhilippinesQuestion about "lifetime" of a k1 visa
got a question im hoping the good folks here at vj know the answer to:

i am in the military, and due to my job, must go through a process before marrying a foreign national, part of that process is having her birth certificate...well it seems now that the military has priority in the Philippines for getting documents...and our only copy is in the hands of our lawyer. so my question is, if she gets her visa soon (we still dont know the interview date) can we hold off for a while before bringing her to the U.S.? how long is the visa good for? i dont want to bring her here only to find out that she has to leave because we CANT get married in the 90 days in which we have to marry due to the government not allowing me to marry her.

if the visa is good for say, 6 months, we will be fine im sure....but if she must use it immediately...we might be screwed. i would ASSUME (based on no knowledge, but just using common sense) that the visa wouldnt take effect until she actually enters U.S. soil....is this a good assumption?

thanks for reading my long post, and hopefully someone has the answer smile.gif

What name did she used in the initial submission? I am also annuled, when I got my decree I dropped my married name upon filing I-129. It will show in the document verification anyway, so maybe just explain to the CO if ever she will be ask why.
I hope this helps.....God bless and goodluck on her interview, she will do fine. .....

Amy

Same here.I got annulled too. I used my maiden name when we filed i-129 and when I got my passport and NBI clearance. One of the VJers whom I met online had used her married name when they filed because her passport and any other identifications she had were on her married name but she had her annulment decree submitted to prove that prior marriage was terminated. She did not have any problems at all or delays from the US embassy. She arrive in the US 5 days after her interview.

I think you can use either names then, that's one reason for document verification anyway.....Just my thought innocent.gif

thanks for the help amy...and to all who replied thank you

so for my document verification should i use my married name? i reviewed my I 129 form and the name that i wrote there was my maiden name but when the got my case number it was under my married name.I am really confused which name to use in paying the document verification tomorrow. wacko.gif seriously its making me insane.
we have submitted the annulment decree already. But still dont know why the case number was still under my married name.

PhilippinesDocument verification for someone previously married...
my fiancee was married before...she is now annulled...for whatever reason, the embassy has her records on file in her married name. now, she wants to do the document verification, but neither of us knows if she should use the name they are using for the file, or her unmarried name.

my opinion is that she should use her unmarried name, since the prior name was annulled and no longer exists...but she is freaking out about this. i also said they have both names on record, and it shouldnt be a problem....but she wants me to post about it here, and see if anyone has had a similar experience.

thanks guys smile.gif

QUOTE (KimandRuss @ Apr 3 2008, 07:41 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Some USEM do require an 'updated' letter of intent while others will tell you they do not need it.

The guides here do recommend it...

Send an original letter affirming your desire to marry your fiance(e) and your continued support of the K-1 Visa. Sign and date the form. This will be similar to the letter you provided with the I-129F, but dated much closer to the interview (it will have most likely been several months since you submitted your I-129F).

so i have to ask my fiance to make one and send it to me before the my interview date?

is there a form/format that needs to be followed? should it be typed or handwritten?

sorry been really freaking out

I know i made one and my fiance made one too but we mailed it together with out I-129 form.

do i need to make one and bring it during the interview? does my fiance need to send me his letter of intent too?

PhilippinesUnbelievable in a month NOA2 approved?
you may be referring to us...

we got approved really quickly, but you should understand the circumstances: i am in the united states navy, i have already had a much deeper background investigation than the government needs for a visa application, i have had numerous tests and procedures done to test my background...and i passed.

also, we had a lawyer walk through this with us, ensuring everything was filled out properly, and was sent to the right place with the right information and everything needed.

i would guess my personal background and job had a huge say in the matter. and our lawyer thinks so as well.

aside from that, i can only apologize that we were accepted so quickly while others are still waiting. i dont know your situation.

ive tried every single number listed on the website (the official one, and on visa journey) the ONLY one i got through on told me to call a different number that wasnt working...i have emailed the embassy and (of course) no response on a valid number.

i dont know if its just my phone, or what....but has anyone else had this issue? or anyone know a working number to dial from the US? the only other number left is the one that charges money....and im not sure they could help on that number anyway.

please let me know how i can contact them by phone, my fiancée is really freaking out (as is the usual state of filipinas for some reason tongue.gif )

well, in no small part due to the help of Ate Loterly, my fiancee called the embassy again today...with some help, with a script from Loterly...Abby had gotten yelled at before for calling the direct line instead of the toll line...she was told just ask the status of "your papers"...and guess what? it worked!!

she was approved...grace at the embassy didnt have the release dates yet...and wasnt sure how long it would take DELBROS to deliver since she lives in the province...but we are guessing within a week or so, she will have the visa in hand

what a happy day....we are getting SO close to the day when we are once again in each others arms....i cant wait!!!

anyway, seems you are taking some time to look after yourself now...

hope you still want to learn Cebuano...its an interesting language. maybe you should search for some of the provincial girls who speak dialects of bisaya?

anyway, i just wanted to teach the most important phrase you could ever learn in Cebuano:

dude ,i feel for you. You just need some time to heal and dont try to be hard on your self.
Maybe she is just trying to clear out her head and needed some time.
While shes having her space ,try to pick up the pieces of your life ,catch up on the things you've missed.
