PhilippinesIm in shock and I dont know what to do
I agree with PhilSir. The definition is relate-able to OP's original question. If he asks for advice, then all parts of the topic should be allowed. Charles you commented several times about the definition of prostitution, then posted that PhilSir and others should stay on topic. I know your a MOD and I wouldn't want the task, but whats good for the goose........

I already sent the OP a PM so I wouldn't get moderated. My basic feeling on the subject is that a bargirl is just like any other woman a man can meet, only she has a crappy job that she might or might not like. If a woman is not a bargirl but is still promiscuous, the same moral dilemma exist, without all the stone throwing from the self-righteous. A prostitute can repent for her sins, change her ways, and go on to lead a normal life and be an excellent wife. The same goes to the woman that had multiple partners without money exchanging hands. I see absolutely no problem what so ever with marking the box with a no answer on the prostitution question. If the medical comes back clear and there is no criminal record then the past is the past, and the CO will not ask the question. Its a double standard anyways. I would say maybe 10% if that many of the Pinoy men that I have met are monogomous. Being a playboy is an accepted part of their culture. So by the logic of some on here, if a man is not monogomous or has used the services of a prostitute then he should not be allowed to immigrate either? Thats B.S.

While living in the RP as an expat before I met my wife, I knew a few bargirls and some where more than just friends. One in paticular became one of my best friends but she was 38 and I was 28 and she would have made an excellent wife, but she was done with the idea of having kids. My point is I wasn't an angel the whole time I was in the RP and I will have to answer for my transgressions one day. On that note, any mistakes I made shouldn't keep me from being happy for the rest of my life though. If I can have forgiveness? Why can't this young lady?

PhilippinesOur interview documents
We did a similar type organization with my wife's K1. Her Consul interview lasted about 5 min. Being prepared and organized is probably as important as the information inside. I think a well prepared package gives the Consul the feeling that the person really cares about the process and has done their homework without even looking at the documents. If all the required docs are there her interview should be a cakewalk.

PhilippinesAll Pinays in Texas...
She sure is one lucky Filipina, first she is getting to settle in the greatest state in the Union, plus she gets the Hill country to boot. She needs to buy a lottery ticket when she arrives. I spent alot of my youth and young adult life in Kerr county. Spent many, many summers and falls in those woods admiring God's masterful plan. Have spent many an hour walking up and down the Guadalupe river fishing, kicking rocks, and basking in the sun. I now make my home in the piney woods, due to commuting factors of the job market. One of the first trips my visayan fiance and I will make is floating the Llano river in Sept. We plan on taking advantage of all the natural resources the great state of Texas offers. An expat friend of mine has a Filipina wife from Toledo/Cebu and she loves Texas. The hot summer's down here on the Gulf Coast take some getting used to, but she loves it none the less. The Mexican's and Mexican/Americans speak spanish to her all the time because they think she is Latina hahaha....she just looks at me confused when this happens....I told her say "no habla espanol, por que yo soy Filipina" Hey its close enough for TEX-MEX. laughing.gif

PhilippinesTFC Commercial

question what is the price?
Its about a 30 second commercial, I think it quoted $699.00 round trip from LAX which is somewhat believable because I have seen EVA Air run a similar special, off peak. I fly out of Houston TX, but sometimes buy my tickets seperate if its cheaper and I want to hang out in the connecting city for a couple days. We are still waiting on my wifes Green card, but will be making a trip when it arrives.

It's probably the old bait and switch game, and I am sure it does not include taxes

I have taken numerous flights within PI, and I always see PAL or CebuAir offering "Special Rate" from Manila to Cebu for like 599 pesos, but when you go to book at the malls it all of a sudden is around 4,000 peso.

Hahaha...Yap I fell for that one too, once before. I found the best way is to book online through PAL or CEBU pacific. PAL's website is easy, CEBU Pac. works maybe half the time. I have also found if you are traveling from Manila to anywhere else PAL seems to always be cheaper. If you are in the Visayas or Mind. traveling to Manila CEBU Pacific seems to be cheaper. I got a special credit card with a very small charge limit just for booking flights within the RP, because I book online on some sketchy unsecure servers and am always worried about my information getting stolen.

PhilippinesTFC Commercial
On TFC via satelite, my wife and I have seen a commercial for a company advertising round trip flights to the RP, for near unbelievable prices for this time of year. We have only seen the commercial maybe 2 times and have been watching for it but keep missing it. Has anyone seen this commercial? and do you have the phone number?

The prices advertised are probablly not including taxes, but thought I would try to follow up with a phone call.

Philippineswhat's next ???what will i need to take with me before my flight?
LAX POE was a piece of cake. Took about 5 min. No waiting in line because they sent us down to the very last booth and let us go through together. The POE officer was married to a Filipina and was going through the immigration process, and had just recieved an RFE in the mail for something lacking in her paperwork. I was suprised since he see's immigration packets everyday. He asked my wife one question: Where is your province? He asked me about 5 questions all about my favorite dive spots in the RP. Then wished us good luck.

I think that's the funniest visa delivery story I ever heard. Well it's good to know they are really dedicated to get it to her. good.gif

I wish I was at that point already myself..
Just be patient you will get there. I can't say the whole journey went smooth. The first packet she recieved from Manila letting her know she could make the interview appointment went to Dumaguette via DHL. Apparently DHL doesn't hand deliver to the mountain. She lived 4 hrs away by Cerres bus liner from Dumaguette. She lived in Negros Oriental right on the border with Occidental. There was a DHL office 1hr. away in Occidental but they wouldn't allow her to pick it up there. So she had to make the 8hr round trip bus ride not once, but twice to Dumaguette. The first time she called ahead made sure they where open, and left early morning around 5am. When she got there the guy at the DHL office left early to go to a party headbonk.gif . Since she was unfamiliar with the place she came all the way back home. Took a rest and went back two days later. Then we had the 12,000 php CENOMAR fiasco/shakedown. Then we payed for all the Vacs. at St. Lukes but where not allowed to get them. These all seemed like big deals at the time, but now that she is here in Texas with me, we just think back and laugh about it.

Good luck your time will come,

QUOTE (lbounds @ Dec 11 2009, 01:23 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I thought it was odd when I first met my girl she didn't have any street address or house number. Her address is her barangay only with her city name.

Her NSO papers were delivered to her fine as well as letters I send her and Fedex too.

If you have the option put her cell number on the delivery forms just in case the delivery guy has a problem. I've never had any problem though it seems odd to us here in the USA to not have street name or house number but this is common in Phil.

I agree, its fairly common not to have a physical adress in the RP. When I lived in Luzon even the gated community I was in didn't have street numbers. My wife is from Negros Oriental and the house we built is on the side of the mountain with no adress. All the mail for that Baranguay gets delivered to the town Kandalaria, then the residents just pick it up when they go buy something. On all the forms I just put (see addendum) in the adress space and on a seperate sheet of paper put the Town, Baranguay, Negros Oriental, RP and the zip code. It must have been okay because she is here in the states with me.

When her visa was delivered the poor courier hiked up the mountain up a Karabao path to find my wife at her parents house. I guess they are under strict orders to hand deliver or this guy was just dedicated to his job??? Anyways she told me the courier suprised her because she was bathing some pigs and heard a guy yelling her name. She started yelling back and they met on the path, she got her I.D. and he handed her the visa. She didn't tip the guy out of excitement and its not really part of the culture, but I have walked up that path many of times and if anyone deserved a tip that guy did.

Its a wonderful journey,
Wyatt

wow.gif I was a little suprised at the backlash Wowowwee is getting. I consider myself pretty conservative and don't get the isssues some have with the show. I like it when they give money away on the show. My wife and I sing the Christmas songs everytime it comes on. My favorite model is the darkskin woman that Willie got onto about having a lending business a few days ago. She is smokin' hot. If my wife is watching the show while i am busy doing something else, I always tell her come and get me if my girlfriend gets centerstage. She laughs and says O.k. because depsite the fact I think some woman on TV is beautiful, she knows I love her more than anything.

I am not sure of the requirements to get a new passport but to amend one you have to go to the Philippines Embassy web site and complete the "Report of Marriage Contracted Abroad" and this has to be processed by the embassy counslar they then send copies to DFA and CFO. This has to be done or when you go to DFA in the Phils and they check the records, if this does not show up you will be denied amendment until you process the Report of marriage. This can be done by mail or in person at any Philippine Embassy in the USA. My wife has already processed the Report Of Marriage form through the Philippine Embassy and we are going to the Philippine Embassy next month or in Februaryto get her passport ammended. We do not want to wait until we get to the Phils and encounter any delays or long lines at DFA in Manila and waste our vacation time in Manila making trips and standing in line at DFA or CFO. Our vacation will not be in Manila or anywhere in Luzon.

Thanks for the info. I didn't know about this. I was naively thinking she could report her marriage in the RP at the NSO. Then we could proceed to the DFA once it was recorded. It amazes me that the CFO could be involved in any way, since she has already left the country and is returning with permanent residence from that country. Your right this sounds like it could eat up some time if doing while in the RP or more importantly cause serious frustration for a Kano hahaha... We where going to try and do it while in Cebu which can even add more frustration on certain things.

Thanks again,
Wyatt

Thanks for the replies. I will be sure to get her ticket with her maiden name, so there will be less confusion. We will also bring a certified copy of our marriage certificate. She plans on trying to get a new passport with her new last name while in the RP, I will post up how that goes at the DFA.

My wife just got her green card on Dec. 15th. We want to fly to the RP a few days after Christmas. Of course her green card has her new married name, and her passport has her old maiden name. Will this be an issue when flying? She will probablly stay a little over a month, because she is 9 weeks pregnant and is really craving the Filipino foods...so I told her she could stay until week 20 if she wanted. My next question is, if flying there isn't an issue? Once she gets there can she just redo her passport while in the RP and get the name changed? I know she can send it off to the consulate in L.A. but we wanted to leave sooner than time allows us to do it that way. I guess my major concern is her getting stuck in the RP, even though she has her greencard.

Thanks,
Wyatt

I will move this to another forum, if I don't get a good answer. Just thought I would try here first.

We recieve it through Direct TV. The channels ABS-CBN, GMA, ANC, Cinema 1, KAPC, WRR, DZMM, MYX, GEMN, GMAL. We ordered it through FilipinoTv.com. Its cheaper to do it that way if your not a Direct TV subsriber, it is more expensive to add all of those channels if your already a subscriber. The cost of the channels is 34.99 then add what ever plan you want to go with that. Go to the website and check it out. Our bill says Direct TV.

PhilippinesUPS-Delbros International are CROOKS
There is always balikbayan box. It takes forever to get there but no tarrif, also there are restrictions on what you can send. Customs in the RP is notorius for being crooks. When we pay our light bill in the nearest town in Negros Oriental the customs agents are selling relief goods to the less fortunate pilipinos. I am talking about donated goods from America. I have seen them dump it directly from of a box from an American Charity group onto a table to sell. The prices are not fair either. 80php to 140php for shorts and shirts....I can see maybe charging something like 25php to keep order, but 80 to 140 is shameful when most of the people buying are making 100php a day cutting sugar cane. A Filipino's worst enemy is another Filipino.

PhilippinesProblem with FedEx and customs
Customs in the RP is notorious for being corrupt. I have seen them do alot worse then this scenario. A Filipino's worst enemy is another Filipino. 3000 pesos is a good chunk of money, but try and chalk it up as the cost of love in the RP. Anyone else sending items that are not documents, like clothes etc... I will say it again. Use a Balikbayan box...there is typically no custom inspection and the shipping price for a jumbo box is typically around $110. There is no weight restriction, you can put as much as you like until the box is full.

PhilippinesMarry in USA or Philippines?
I K-1'd my now wife because my expat friends told me it was faster and easier. It took us 9 months, but I was back in forth to the RP during that time, so realistically we could have probabbly done it in 7 months. I don't know much about the CR-1 but if it only takes 3 or so months longer, I would definately consider that route. If the greencard you get with the CR-1 route is a 10 year card, I would definately go that route if I had it to do over again. With the K-1 you have to adjust your wife's status to get a 2 year temporary greencard and it cost about $1020.00 + medical transcription. The entire K-1 cost with USCIS from the start to getting greencard was an est. $1600.00. give or take a $100. I have no idea what CR-1 cost? I am sure some one will post it up. Good luck.

PhilippinesI HAD NO CLUE WHAT THE CONSUL'S DECISION WAS.. I JUST HAD MY INTERVIEW TODAY. I GOT HUMILIATED...,
After reading your account of the interview, it seems like your mom's status really raised the red flag to him. I think he acted very disrespectful and could have handled it alot different. I guess that was his technique, but it sure seems hateful. I met my wife while working in the RP, so I wasn't familiar with the dating sites. After reading your story, I went to filipinaheart to check it out, and you can tell just by the front page without signing up its a dating site. Surely he has interviewed other filipina's that met there fiances from this site and is aware of it. So basically he just used that as a scare tactic. Like others said, your just in review so hang in there. I wouldn't be suprised if you have your visa within a month.

PhilippinesAll Pregnant Daddies
I am going through the same stuff. My wife is about 22 weeks pregnant right now. Well that depends on who you choose to believe? modern science or a 90 year old mountain woman in Negros Oriental. We just got back from a trip to the RP in early March. The same woman who delivered my wife when she was a baby is still alive and living in the same place my wifes parents live. That old woman said the baby would come in late June. The trained OBGYN here in the states says July 23rd. When I told our local OBGYN the mountain womans diagnoses she seemed a little offended that I questioned her expertise. In response I offered a small wager to her of when the baby would be born and then she started to back track a little and then said her due date prediction is good 3 weeks before or after July 23rd. Hahaha...doctors they are just practiceing!!!LOL! Anyways we are super excited and nervous all at the same time. Nervous because we have no idea what we are doing. My mom is out of the picture, and her mom is on the other side of the world, so we are just gonna have to wing it. We will figure it out as it comes I guess. Its amazing, babies are born over in those mountains everyday with just a mid-wife present in a hot nipa hut. Here the minimum is like 4K USD and can go up to 30K USD if done by Cesarian. Thank God I have good insurance. One thing for sure is little Waylon is on his way, with or without modern science.

Philippinesfor the guys!! How do YOU deal with Tampo?
Ahh...the dreaded Tampo! Lol. Its not so bad, I guess. I like some others that posted have tried to break the habit or lessened its severity. If I don't pay attention to it, sometimes it makes it worse. So in severe cases I just hug and kiss my wife, even though I consider it a childish behaviour on her part. At first when I didn't respond to Tampo the way she thought I should, I had to explain to her I am not a Filipino so don't expect me to react like one. There have been times when I didn't respond and then later felt guilty for not giving in. I mostly felt guilty because later I put myself in her shoes and realize how much she has had to adjust to living in America and figured its sort of selfish of me not to respond to her Tampo in a way that makes her happy. The latest bout happened while visiting my parents for a few days. On day 3 my dad asked whats wrong with your wife? He asked did yall have a fight? I told him no, and said dad I wish I could explain it to you, but I don't fully understand it myself. I said "don't worry she will be back to her normal self by dinner time, and if not just act as if nothing is wrong." By dinner time we were laughing and cutting up again. My dad asked me later "so did yall get things worked out?" I said "Nope, there was nothing wrong between us, thats just her version of pouting for what ever reason you can think of?" He looked as confused as I do when Tampo rears its ugly head  You gotta love Filipina's.

PhilippinesCan you bring canned foods in checked luggage going to US

Hello, I am in Philippines right now and will be leaving soon, I already have a permanent resident status (2 yr). I'm just wondering if I can bring with me canned goods of corned beef and sisig. There's no canned sisig in US, not even online. I'm going to bring shampoo and conditioner as well, they're milder than the ones I available in US. I have checked TSA website, but can't find info about bringing canned goods in checked luggage. I will be flying Delta all the way. Please share if you have more information. Thank you

My wife and I just got back fromt he RP. She came back a few days after I did. She brought some salted fish back in canning jars. Customs randomly pulled her out of line for inspection and did not say anything about the jars of salted fish. The jars where glass, and she disclosed them in her customs form. They didn't even mention them during inspection. So I think you would be okay with canned meat, just disclose them in your customs form if your concerned. If they question you about it you can always plead ignorance. On another note I take canned stuff to the RP all the time.

PhilippinesNeed Help on Getting Philippine Passport for Child

After the baby is born submit the report of birth and the required documents and you can do it by mail. The thing is you have to apply in person for your child's passport so might have to travel for it.

Haven't seen San Francisco Consulate doing outreach programs like the one in LA, they have outreach programs for States that is under their jurisdiction.

Other option is submit Report of Birth and just apply for your son's passport in Philippines while there?

Good luck.

The only potential problem I could see being an issue is: If your child is born in the U.S.A and is an American citizen. After the necessary steps are taken and the child recieves duel-citenzship and gets an RP passport. Then you travel to the RP using the childs RP passport, how do you prove the the child is an American citizen when returning from the RP? The childs social security card? Birth certificate? should probablly be sufficient, but I don't know for sure. Has anyone on Visa journey ever traveled with their American/Filipino child using an RP passport?

PhilippinesNeed Help on Getting Philippine Passport for Child

I’m a Filipino citizen married to a US citizen (by birth). My husband and I are currently living here in Colorado and we are going to have our first child in June. In my understanding, our child is going to have dual citizenship. I would like to know how I could get a Philippine Passport for our child while we’re here in the US? I know the part where I have to report the birth within 12 months to a Philippine consulate but I can't find information on how I can acquire a Philippine passport for our child while we're here. We’re planning to bring him to the Philippines for a vacation during the Christmas holidays and I would like for him to enter the Philippines on a Philippine Passport.

Thanks!

Excellent post, and great question. My wife and I are in almost the exact same situation. I wanted duel-citizenship for our future son but didn't know about how to get it. Also I have been looking at getting his American passport becasue the due date is July and we want to make a late October trip to the RP. This means due to time constraints of our planned trip I would have to go stand in line for 2 days with a 3 month old, just to get a rush passport. I never thought about having him enter on an RP passport. Good question.

PhilippinesRetiring in the Philippines
I think using the word PARADISE to describe the RP is not a realistic way to describe it at all. It all depends on where a person chooses to live and I have literally been all over the entire country, and lived in 2 different places. I have yet to find this paradise some people use to describe it. What I did find is a place where the cost of housing, transportation and medical is more affordable. As far as the cost of living being cheaper goes? Other than these 3 things, I guess it depends on how a person chooses to live. I have found if I want to live what I would consider a normal middleclass American lifestyle then the cost are not that much different and in some cases more expensive in the RP. If a person is willing to change how they would normally live in America and adopt more of a Pinoy mindset of doing with less, then the RP can be a great place. Living like a king in the RP is like living a middleclass lifestyle here in the U.S.A. and the cost are not greatly different based off my experience. I have had great medical care in the RP and I have also had terrible medical care. I spent 4 days in the Asian hospital in Alabang. I blew a disc in my lower back and pinched the sciatic nerve so bad I couldn't get off the ground and was taken by ambulance. The neurosurgeon that did the medical procedure was top notch and I walked out of the hospital 4 days later. I still had more major surgery done in the states the next month, but this Pinoy doctor got me mobile again. On the other hand medical care in the province can range from bad to mid-evil. If I would have had this situation happen to me in the visayas where I built our house, I would have been in REAL big trouble.
The thing that makes the RP attractive for me is being able to live with less, but still being able to be happy doing it. The unattractive things for me are of course the same things alot of Filipino's also don't like which are: the corruption, the crab-mentality, and the extreme poverty of others.
Eventhough I am 33, actually I have been planning on retiring to the RP for the last couple of years. I met my wife when I was an expat and we built a house together over there on some land her dad gave us, before we even got married. Trust was never an issue for our situation. At the time it was a popular belief amongst expats that K-1 was the best route to go, so we waited to get married until here in the U.S.A. We have operated several different types of businesses there from Jeepney's and boarding houses to all sorts of farming and livestock trucking. I have worked in the oil industry my entire life thus far and will recieve a good pension, but a plan B of making the move to the RP before that time has always been in the works. My dream is not retiring to the RP, my dream is retiring to the RP still a young man. Many have tried this and failed but I know a handful that planned well and are succeeding. If a person can live atleast 40% pinoy style it makes it much easier. Like another poster stated you also need to get your mind right. A two week to two month visit is nothing like the six months of isolation province living can make you feel. I speak Bisaya and have a great relationship with my wifes immediate family, but I still miss American conversation while there. I once drove an hour in the rain on my motorbike just to have coffee with a retired American living in the RP. I didn't even really like this paticular guy that much, but he could provide me with the commrodary my inlaws can't. Loneliness can happened to you even if your surrounded by people in the RP. The feeling of isolation I have been through in the RP has made it so much easier for me to identify with what my wife has had to go through adjusting to life in the U.S.A.
An American cannot own land in the Philippines. There is some discussion on whether once the Filipino spouse dies if the ownership can be transfered to the American spouse, but I wouldn't ever count on that being the case even if there is a law stating it. As far as business I would never put anything in my name as American owner even if I could. The corruption makes running a business in the RP hard enough, why would anyone ever want to draw more attention to themselves? Basically what I am saying is: is that it takes absolute trust in your spouse and her immediate family to do anything concrete in the RP.

This is just my 2 cents, and only an opinion and like previously stated I am not an expert and don't pretend to be.

Yap, we hope we don't ever have another IKE. IKE produced a bunch of tornadoes that caused more dammage than the actual hurricane.

BTW: Pancho and Lefty will be played at my funeral when I am called home.

PhilippinesThe Journey Continues
Well we haven't posted in a while. But its good to see the board is still helping alot of people. Our new addition Waylon Wylie entered this earth on 07-16-2010 kicking and screaming. Kugeng went into labor at 9am on 7-16 but finally after 12hrs of labor a C-section was necessary to get the little guy out and he was born at 10pm on the dot. We are so proud and Praise God for our blessings. We have plans to make a trip to the RP in late October so, I am sure I will be surfing the board for tips on passports and dual citizenship paperwork for the little guy. This site is a great resource even after your original visa journey gets completed. Take care all.

PhilippinesDoes anyone know any online dating sites where you can meet Americans looking for a wife in the Philippines.
I am a little surprised some got seemingly offended by the posters question. Whats the big deal? She is asking for a site so her sister or friend can find a boyfriend? To immediately jump on a bandwagon of implying she is promoting some sort of devious fraud I don't think is fair.

I got married in my early 20's to an American woman I met online in Yahoo. After a few years it didn't work out and it wasn't because we met online, but because we where immature.

Then later in life out of no where I was offered a job in the RP and met my now wife in person during that time. Its a totally different experience and different time in my life. Timing is everything.

I don't know any statistics but would not be surprised if more than 60% of the people getting married in todays American culture met online. Its very common. In an online dating format it asks several questions like what the person prefers. Their likes and dislikes etc. etc.

If an American woman post and ad in a dating site and some of her prefrences is a guy in a certain income bracket, certain height range, certain age, etc. etc. etc. How is that different from a Filipina who simply prefers a white guy or and American guy for whatever reason? Just my 2 cents.

BTW: If I would have not met my wife in person, we would have never met online becuase she was a mountain girl with very little computer skills. Our paths crossed at just the right time.

PhilippinesBuilding and Extension on house in Philippines

Wow, Wyatt - you can't afford not to build at 100 pesos a day! Yea, with the milling and gravel - way to go.

Good data Ann Marie and Leo - half the house for more than twice the money and five times the wait. I'm curious what the workers were paid on Luzon if you don't mind saying...

Yap wanted to pay the guys more then 100 pesos a day, but it caused too many problems. At one time I was paying them 160 a day and had 10 guys working at one time, during the digging out the mountain process. The problem it caused was that everyone else in the baranguay got mad, because they couldn't afford to hire any of my guys for their projects and it caused bad blood. Also my father-in-law is a very thrifty man, and it caused him a bunch of stress thinking I was spending too much money on labor. The going rate there is 100 pesos a day and they where dang glad to get it. Heck even some of the province kids wanted to help so I payed them 1 piso for every rock they carried up from the river 2 miles a way. You should have seen the piles of rock we had to build the veranda...I finally had to tell them to stop! hahahaha!

PhilippinesBuilding and Extension on house in Philippines
Like Rlogan I have built several houses in the U.S.A. (used to own and operate my own construction business). I also built a small cinderblock house in the RP in Negros Oriental. I wouldn't be involved in a project in the RP unless there was close oversite by someone you deeply trusted like a direct family member an even that could be a sketchy situation. I was living in Negros when we built our house, so I was involved in every aspect and even helped during construction even though its a different type of construction then I have been exposed to. The main structure was basically pole framing followed up with cinderblock walls. My father-in-law and I worked hand in hand and hired day labor guys at 100 peso's per day. 100 pesos is going rate in the province. Anyways there are so many variables and cost fluctuate from area to area. For instance some of the raw materials we used where essentially free because we got them from natural resources. Sand and rock for the concrete, we got from the river bed. I bought the lumber for the house as trees still standing. Paid someone to mill them to my specs. etc. etc. Ran my own plumbing. I was able to keep cost way down by doing certain things like this. PM me your email adress and I will send you pics. of the construction and the cost, but they will certainly be different than cost in Manila.

PhilippinesWhy was her answer considered a 'gaffe'?
I didn't follow the whole competition. Watched it the last night with my wife. I didn't think Miss Philippines was the best looking of the bunch either. I thought Miss Puerto Rico was smoking hot and the best looking of the top 10 group. Miss Philippines looked extremely nervous during her last question and answer, I don't think she came across as arrogant. She just couldn't think well on her feet when it counted. She didn't articulate her answer very well at all. I didn't think Miss Mexico's answer was all the spectacular either, maybe something got lost in translation.

PhilippinesI-130 and rural addresses in the Philippines
A lack of a descriptive physical adress is a common issue in the RP. My wife lived in Negros Oriental on the side of the mountain in a nipa hut. For all things concerning her adress on paperwork I would always put see addendum. On a seperate sheet of paper I wrote a short explanation for lack of physical adress. Her baranguay did not have a post office or any type of government buildings. All mail which is few and far between goes to the local kalandaria called Lee-lings store. So I wrote that in the addendum, my wifes name in care of Lee-lings store, with the baranguay and province name. Never had any issues. The guy contracted by Air21 actually hiked up the side of the mountain up a karaboa path to hand deliver her visa. I don't know if you will get this kind of service when its your time, but I was impressed with this guys dedication to delivering the visa.

PhilippinesTravel Agent

Just get you best price to Manila. From there book with Zest Airline to any domestic airport in PI

I avoid Manila when ever possible, but sometimes it doesn't make financial sense. I use a Thai Travel agency based in Houston, TX. Apex Travel 713 784-5300 ask for Op. Even if she can't beat the online prices she can compete with them. She might be able to find you a flight more to your liking. Cathay Pacific flies out of Dallas and lands in Cebu. Asiana lands in Cebu and so does Korean air, but I don't recommend Korean air. The thing I like about a travel agent is I am always changing my return flight after I arrive, I get to make one phone call and be done with it. Me, my wife, and our infant son are flying out of Houston on Oct. 22nd with a one stop layover in Japan then to Manila (Continental/Japan airlines). Cost per ticket 1278.00 plus 160.00 for infant son on bulkhead seating with basinet. I wanted Cebu for entry point, but nothing within $500.00 in price available for our travel dates.

Philippinesadoption:
What if the child does qualify as an orphan? I ask becuase my wife and I just had a little boy. We want a little girl and have discussed adopting in the RP if the whole process cost less than $8,000 USD.

Philippinesbringing my dog

Post what you find out, I may be try to bring a dog back from PI in the future, if it's not a big hassle. Did they give you an estimated cost?

I want to know a real price also. I have done the research before, but lost interest because different airlines charge dogs as cargo differently than others. I am always on a foreign airline at some part of the trip.

If the $200.00 quote comes back realistic, then I would give more thought about bringing a dog or dogs back. A high pedigree Philippine French bulldog goes for pennies on the dollar compared to an AKC French bulldog. I have never had that breed, but have had Boston Terriers my whole life, and have bred cow dogs in the past. Just doing basic math based off my limited dog breeding experience, a mating pair of the Philippine French bulldogs could make a decent return on investment even without AKC papers. My wife already feeds other livestock for her daily chores, a few more dogs wouldn't be that hard.

PhilippinesGoing to the RP with wife and 3 month old son
I used to work in the RP and always had some sort of Visa while staying there. I have stayed on B2 and Travel Visa. I have made several trips without a visa with my return ticket comming in under the 21 day requirement. We are leaving on Oct. 21st and our return date on our current tickets is past the 21 day freebie period you get with just a passport. My question is this: Will me and my Amercian citizen son have any problems entering the RP without a Visa since our ticket goes past the 21 days. I plan on extending at the immigration bureau office on day 20. I have done this many times, but have never flown in with my ticket showing a departure date past the 21 days without a Visa.

Thanks for any help.

PhilippinesSatellite Internet
Thanks for the links and the advice. I figured I would be willing to pay up to 4500 pesos a month depending on bandwith and speeds, I have other uses for it besides just casual entertainment. 85,000 peso setup is way to steep. 4G would be great if it could get to our area. Years ago I forget the name of the typhoon but it dammaged a cell tower in the area. It had been dammaged before and they always repaired it, but after that typhoon they relocated it and now I have to climb about 50 meters up the mountain and stand on one foot and wave the phone to get a signal. I thought about getting a signal amplifier and booster and priced them at about 16,000 pesos. After doing some research I found out that the signal it boost for the cell phone isn't the same mghz signal that smartbro picks up on. So I thought it was a little pricey just to be able to make a phone call from the house. I will be landing in the RP tommorow for a few weeks and plan to canvas the area for some ideas.

I figured I would go talk to the Dream satellite guys and see if they know a satellite internet provider.

PhilippinesSatellite Internet
I have been thinking about trying to get satellite internet at the house in Negros for a while now. Our house is situated between Vallehermoso and Canlaon in the mountains of Negros. Smartbro doesn't work due to no signal, so satellite seems like the only option. I have looked at Ipstar on the internet and they have retailer offices in Luzon. I was wondering if anyone in the RP forum has satellite internet or knows of a retailer in Cebu. Is there another service provider in the Philippines besides Ipstar? If anyone has experience with satellite internet in the RP feel free to share your experience.

Theres an internet cafe in Canlaon that has satellite internet. When I asked them what provider they used, they just gave me a blank stare (I don't speak ilongo). So they are not a good source for information, but atleast I know it works in Negros with the correct line of site.

Thanks,
Wyatt
