My stupid RFE: Left out the W2 & the proof of current employment

What i learned: That having a lawyer doesnt mean no RFEs

. And calling NVC to check the progress before they send you the email saves time and gives you time to prepare for the missing docs and the only thing you wait for is the barcoded cover sheet that comes with the RFE mail.

USCIS Quick Approval Tips

Hey guys, The time lines at USCIS are so unpredictable, when my husband and i sent out the I130 and I129 our lawyer told us it takes anywhere from 3 - 18 months. Our I130 was approved 301 days later, the I129 is still pending but we no longer care abt it. Its been 2 weeks already and there is no case number from NVC, I dont even know how we'll know NVC has the file. On the approval letter they said they'll contact the beneficiary, me, within 90 days.
The waiting is difficult, hope the tips from ToAliwithLove help someone out there, personally, i think it was just luck.

Hi Jiskat08, our approval hard copy was also received on the 12th March, just like yours. How did you get the NVC number? My husband have been waiting now for 2 weeks with no word, please advice what you did. We dont even know if NVC has received the case and dont know who to ask. Many thanks.

Hiring A Lawyer

Hi, my hubby hired a lawyer before we even got married and the lawyer had told him that processing will be faster after we got married- she gave us a timeline of 3-6 months. At the time we had no clue on what the process entailed. And even with an immigration lawyer, we still got an RFE twice!! Had we known the VJ community from the onset, we would have done it ourselves. You are lucky to have the backing of VJers and in my opinion, you dont need a lawyer.

Interview Preparation Questions

Hi maisflocon, we received the same email from NVC with the list of documents already submitted and on page 2 of the mail there was the list of what to bring, basically the meds report and the pictures. I did hand in all the originals so at the interview i will only have copies (I got 2 RFEs for my originals) so clearly they have them now. I am going into the interview with proof of bonafide relationship, meds report and pics, I called the embassy here to confirm they dont expect anything else and they said what i have is fine, i know embassies are different. I think we'll be fine, relax and good luck.

My wife had her interview at the Nairobi embassy on the 9th of October. The following is a sample of her experience. I hope it helps.

I got at the embassy at 6.30am, was let in after showing my appointment letter and medical envelope. I joined the queue and saw the first CO at around 8am, she asked for the medical report, passport and two passport pics. She had the case file in front of her she gave me back my original birth certificate, marriage certificate and the two pics submitted with DS-230. She asked me to have a seat and wait to be called for finger printing. It took another one hour or so before i was called at another counter and had my finger prints taken. Then after another hour or so i was called to yet another counter where i was asked to raise my hand and swear that the information submitted it correct. The CO then asked me:: Who filed for the petition, How we met and when, Was hubby previously married, Does he have any kids and how old is the child, what do i do for work and where do i work. He said everything looks good and as a by the way he asked if i had any pictures. I gave him a bunch of pictures he quickly flipped through them and made a comment abt one of the pics (he said it was nice) and gave them back. He said my visa has been approved and i can pick it up on the 22nd at 3pm . The evidence pack i had carried was never requested for: all my phone records, snail mail receipts, skype logs, etc remained untouched i still think its better to be prepared with every piece of evidence.
On the 22nd, I was at the embassy at 2.30pm, the guards took the blue slip and requested that we sit outside, we sat and waited till 4.10pm. The CO came on the speaker and announced that all the IV collectors will get back their passports and an accompanying sealed envelope, she said the xray we got after the medicals plus the envelope received should be given to the CO at the POE. We were then called one after another and the visas handed out. That's it!

Hi Ben and Jill again.Sorry It's been a while since I last gave an update. My passport was sent on 1st of June which is weird because it's a public holiday in Kenya and it was also a Saturday. The status showed my documents were picked up by DHL the same day but I collected them on Monday, and traveled on 4th June. It was a long journey but worth every minute. We got married on 28th of June and it has been a bliss. We have not changed the status yet though, we are working on it. Again, thanks for encouraging me and the good wishes

It took about three weeks from the actual interview date. It's never a good idea to book a ticket until the visa is in your hands...but, you are realizing this now and that's OK. Hopefully, they will process the visa soon and you won't have to re-ticket and pay again. I wish you the best and let us know how it goes! Stay positive and blessed.

Hi Jill, thanks again for your input. We called them on 30th, they said it was still under AP but to check again with them on Tuesday. But today the status changed to "Issued" Yaay! I'm so happy! I hope to get my passport back on Monday! I will let you know how it goes. I can't thank you enough for your encouragement. It's never easy

Hi peeps, lemme start by appreciating this website and to all that posted on their experiences. I owe the far I have come to it . I did my K1 interview on 16th May, I never went through anything like that before and I hope I will never lol. I was chilled throughout and shivering for no apparent reason. The CO was ok, not friendly nor hostile. My interview took about 3 minutes, after asking some few questions and going through some pictures she said everything looked fine, but she needed a copy of my fiance's tax returns, either 2011 or 2012. She said once I send them to the Embassy via DHL the visa should be issued within a week (although I was given form 221g) I sent the returns the same day, on Thursday but the Embassy received them on Friday. I know I'm getting way ahead of myself since Friday is not here yet, but I can't help tensing. I've read a lot about this 221g and it seems like its dreaded. When I track my case it showed me that it was through Administrative Processing. Who has ever gone through this and how long did it take? I was ready to travel on Thursday already but the passport is not available yet. I feel stressed out already Thanks guys, you are great and thanks for encouraging each other

K-2 Visa Application Process

Your children will have to go through the same (or a very similar) application process as you. At the beginning of the application process, all the U.S. citizen sponsor needs to do is to include the children?s names on Question 14 of the Fiancé Visa Petition (Form I-129F). The consular officials should then send extra sets of the required forms for the children to fill out. If you do not receive these extra forms, contact the consulate. For young children, it?s okay for a parent to fill out the form, and even sign it, on their behalf. (Just sign your name, then write Parent of [name of your child].)

The children will have to prove that they are not inadmissible and that they will be financially supported along with the immigrating fiance. Each cihld will need to show proof of their relationship to the immigrating K-1 parent, such as a birth or adoption certificate. You will also need to gather many of the same documents for the children as you do for the main applicant, such as medical reports, photos, and passports; and to pay individual visa fees.

After you get married and apply for a green card, your K-2 children may apply along with you. Each will need to submit (by mail) a separate application for adjustment of status to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).

K2 Visa Follow-to-join For My Son

Hi everyone, I need some heads up based on experience or knowledge. From Nairobi Kenya, I traveled to US on K1 visa and everything has been good so far. Got married in time, applied for green card, got my EAD and ssn etc. My son was included in the i-129F petition by my husband but when applying for my visa I chose "to follow". I'm now ready for him to come and I would like my dad to take care of the process. I have already given the power of attorney over him. Question is, what are the documents needed to the embassy for K2 visa? I tried emailing them but they didn't give me much info. Do I still need to fill all the forms I did for my K1 visa even thhough I was including his name in the files? Do my husband need to submit Affidavit of support and tax returns? My son is 12 years old. Any feedback is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Actually i made the simplest preparation ever. Just attached the forms they asked for, and affidafit of support with Ron's tax returns.. And i made a folder of our relationship in which i filed all his letters, greeting cards to me and my daughter, western union receipts, parcels sent and received, chat logs from facebook and from google (which she took her time to flip thru and read here and there), and one email logs page per month, and pics of us together. I have never been married and was not asked to prove that... And my daughter's father has never featured in her life so i was just asked if he had and i said no. So i asked the lady, what if he was relevant in her life? She said i would have needed his consent. So i didn't need any of that.
