Philippinesmarriage troubles
I think alot of times, it is just man versus woman in how they communicate. My wife had no culture shock here, coz it is like PI where I live. However we had some trouble at times with some cultural differences. I hope this works out.

PhilippinesA Good Provider Is One Who Leaves
It is kinda sad. Where I live the Sakadas have left a very big legacy. When I was in Laoag, everyone I met had relatives in Waipahu, Kalihi, Ewa Beach, or even Puhi and Hanamaulu. There presence is still felt here today. They where somewhat lucky, as they became citizens and brought their family here. Then this cycle still repeats to this day. Most Filipinos come here through their families not through marrying haoles. It just shows the hard working spirit of most Filipinos.

PhilippinesBound for Oregon

You are a Beaver???

I guess you never went to college then?!
Psoas10MalePhilippines2010-01-06 19:31:00
PhilippinesBound for Oregon
Yeah I am a beaver, and used to live in the valley. Yes there is a cultural shock in Oregon, coz I had it when I first moved there from Hawaii. Bend is a nice area, that can get cold in the winter. I am not to sure how much Filipinos are around, probably alot less than where I live now. However I grew to like Oregon, except for the 6 months of rain in the winter. People are nice there, so you should be fine.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2010-01-06 14:28:00
PhilippinesHow do you like your new American hometown?
My wife loves it here. The whole Island of Kauai is like PI, except the north shore and Poipu area. There are chickens, pigs and goats around us. Also Marunguy? sp, bitttermelon, kalamansi and other gulay grow right outside my door. Ilocano is heard more often than English here, hehe. So my wife has no problems here.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2009-06-17 21:26:00
Philippinesoff topic
It depends where the transport is from. PI to USA is not worth it coz, esp if the car is old too. Heck, even Hawaii to the west coast is not worth it either. In the Mainland states I guess you could just drive between states. Also it depends on the worth of the car too.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2010-02-09 15:18:00
PhilippinesMy wife VS. American food
I think it is the serving size. Here in Hawaii, the local plate lunch places serve so much food. Likewise the Filipino places serve double or triple the serving size as in PI. Yeah tilapia is plentiful here, but they like to live in the mud and taste junk. If you have them near the ocean, or in fish farms, then ono. Bangus not as much, unless you raise them yourselves. You can find siapao everywhere, esp in the 7-11, probably get better kine, in chinatown. Heck any food you crave in PI, you can get here.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2010-02-09 15:15:00
Philippineswhy do Pinays
Where I live Pinays marry Pinoys for the most part. Then the ones born here may marry other Filipinos, or other local or Asians next. It is rare to see a Pinay with a Haole here, unless they are in the military or Visayan. In the long run it does not matter, coz I am half Haole Japanese, or Hapa as we call it in Hawaii. I do admit that Hapa women are cute, hehe. I mean most of ABS-CBN is hapa, hehe.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2010-02-09 15:26:00
Philippineswhy do Pinays
Hmm not where I live. I see mostly Filpino couples here. I guess things are different here where I live.

PhilippinesMy New Life...so far.

Only one time! PAU.....

Perhaps living in Hawaii helps, we have a high immigration rate and they (local ssn office) may deal a lot with this kind of experience? Hard to say....

Yeah and the guy at the front desk was Ilocano and spoke both Ilocano and Filipino. I wonder how it was on Maui. :star:

PhilippinesSeattle / Being Sick / Veggies
Oh wow the OP does not like fresh gulay. Hmm no pinakbet, bittermelon, kayote, talong, betchay and malunguy. We get that fresh here and the chickens are fresh here too, hehe. I like some gulay, but I am not a salad type of person though. I do like the Filipino dishes that have gulay in them though.

PhilippinesVISA K1 Application

Thank you very much to all those who reply to my query. My fiance went back to USA again just today and I told him that I dont want any agent. We will just do it by ourselves.

Once he arrive in HI he will file the I-134 form. By the way, how long to process I-134 and Form 1040?

Thanks again for guiding me, I appreciate your help. :) (L) (F)

The I-134 is the affidavit of support. Your Fiance has to file that with is 1040 or his tax return to prove to the USEM, that he can support you and himself. He sends it to you, then you bring it with you to your interview. Good luck, and I think you will like Hawaii, it is just like PI. Well now worries about finding Filipino food or people.

PhilippinesTsunami warning
You forgot all the Ilocanos here in Hawaii, esp in Ewa Beach are watching this this Tsunami as well. Yes Hawaii is under a Tsunami warning. I am lucky me an my wife live on high ground.

PhilippinesAny Filipinas in east Nebraska?
Yeah my wife has that problem here. Of course the bigger cities in the US have some Filipinos, and the west coast and Hawaii have alot.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2010-03-03 02:25:00
PhilippinesCooking in the US?
Hmm I have chayote, papaya and mulungay growing right outside my house. Even got some wild chickens that graze under those trees and vines. My bitter melon is not doing so good, maybe coz it is too cold and dry now, been in the 60's at night and real dry too.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2010-03-02 15:46:00
PhilippinesCooking in the US?
My wife has no problem cooking here in Hawaii. Of course 100 years of Filipinos living here and now being half the population helps. Also since the climate is similar, the same foods can be grown here as well.

PhilippinesMarried life is great
My wife has no problems here, and we never get any stares here. I guess when unofficially half the state is Filipino, then no problems. Also mixed asian people seem to be the norm here. The weather is rather similar too.

Philippinesmanaging Finances
Well this is something that should have been discussed before. Also you could have asked her or asked her parents how they handle their money. I noticed that my wife learned about budgeting and saving from her mom and dad. My in-laws works on their farm and has a collective bank account and view of money. Also many Filipino families it is the woman that is who handles the money. The only thing you can do is try to explain we versus me. Also does she send money home too?
Psoas10MalePhilippines2010-03-09 15:09:00
PhilippinesYou're lucky to have him
Here in Hawaii, the norm is Filipinos marry Filipinos. Also most of them come through their parents, or other family. Then these single kids may marry other single kids here in the Filipino community here. It is rare to see a Filipino woman with a Haole husband, mostly Filipino couples here. Of course the Filipinos I met here don't seem to mind that I have a Filipino wife. But that is because I am local born. It seems that most Filipinas on the internet are marrying mostly Haoles on the mainland. For me I don't care who they marry coz I am half Haole myself. I guess they are the good and the bad, and it is like a roll of dice.

Philippinesim 21 so my question is
He is a product of the wonderful school system here in Hawaii. Many people here in Hawaii can only speak and write in Pidgin English. Even for me, I still have a hard time with writing and speaking good English, and I have BS degree.

Congrats, and maybe you should check out Kalihi or Waipahu. But I see you are from California, so you can get Filipino food and stuff pretty easy.

PhilippinesCharice Pempengco ( Filipina Singer) on Oprah
Charice  Justin  Yeah Charice has so much talent, she will sing circles around that Justin. Anyway she was in the latest Chipmunks movie on blu-ray. I am glad she get a chance to be star here in America.

PhilippinesRetiring in the Philippines
Me and my wife talked about retiring to PI, but Hawaii is good enough. I see alot of people from colder parts of the Mainland seem to want to retire to PI. But for us the weather is better here in Hawaii. We also have a big Filipino community.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2010-05-07 15:05:00
PhilippinesRetiring in the Philippines
The OP should retire in Hawaii, I mean she is Ilocano, and half of Hawaii is Ilocano now. My wife says Hawaii is a nice mix of PI and the US. So will retire here and just visit PI alot.

PhilippinesVisa Waiver program

I think if the Philippines becomes a member of the VWP it will become a burden due to too many filipinos will migrate and not want to return back to the Philippines.

It is happened here already  . Well pretty soon half our state will be Ilocano. Then only place Hawaiians will be is in Vegas

PhilippinesSinigang and Sotanghon
My wife likes to use Salmon or Ahi with the whole shrimp in her sinigang. She use the mama sita sinigang powder mix as well. Yeah i prefer not to use the ajinomoto as well.

Philippinesthe Filipino channel

Same here, Ann's afternoons are reserved for 3 programs, one I like (AGUA BENDITA),then AROSALKA & RUBI. Wowwowe seems to have fallen out of favor in our house :wow: , but I use to watch the Saturday show.

I like Agua Bendita too. The new show Momay i cute, got the same actress who played the young Agua Bendita. I like Rubi too. My wife thinks it is strange that I like to watch TFC. Also why is most of the stars hapa or half white? . That explains why I was kinda popular in PI, and mistaken for being Filipino.

PhilippinesPara sa mga Pinay...
Move to Hawaii, can get most or all the Filipino food you want. Of course you would have to learn Ilocano, since most of the Filipinos here are Ilocano.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2010-06-18 15:51:00
PhilippinesPara sa mga Pinay...
Yeah my bitter melon finally has some fruit, I planted it a year ago. Also my papaya tress are starting to get some green papayas too. Also my mulungay has plenty of pods and leaves. Hmm also get plenty feral chickens again. Maybe my wife can cook some chicken papaya, and pinakbit. The one thing I do crave is the chowking halo halo. We can get halo halo here, but it is not the same. I think I will go eat some adobo from the Filipino store nearby, just have to decide which store to go to.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2010-06-10 17:52:00
PhilippinesPara sa mga Pinay...
My wife gets any Filipino food she wishes here. Plenty Filipinos here and the climate is similar to PI, so no problem getting Filipino here.

PhilippinesAssist Filipina Mother Flying to USA
You could have her fly on PAL from Manila to either LA or Las Vegas. Since the plane would be filled with plenty Filipinos, she could just ask a someone on how to travel and navigate the airport and customs. Then have your wife meet her in either LA or Vegas and fly with her to Denver.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2010-06-16 13:23:00
PhilippinesQuestion with GUAM POE
I live on Kauai, so I met my wife outside of the immigration exit. So we took a left and went to the interisland terminal. She would go right and head towards the main terminal that is the domestic and international terminal. She can take the wiki wiki bus as well. She should have no problems, just make sure she does not end up in Waipahu or Kalihi  But if she gets lost get plenty Ilocanos around to help her out. You can also google the Honolulu international airport, because they have a map and layout of the place.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2010-07-15 14:18:00
PhilippinesAnyone here who didn't meet their Love online?
I met my wife through my many Filipino Friends in Hawaii. She was a pen pal, which her cousin here gave me her Address and email. Well I guess in a way, we did use the internet alot.

PhilippinesGood source to learn tagalog
Rosetta stone is good, but expensive. I have not used the new Rosetta Stone, which can analyze your speech and force you to match a native speaker speech. I find watching TFC and watching movies with subtitles. Problem for me, here is Ilocano is the language spoken here, next to English. I know alot more Tagalog, but you hear only Ilocano here. I guess when 40 to 50 percent of the people where are Ilocano, that is what you would here.

PhilippinesHow to Deal with your Marriage Critics Effectively
I guess for us, a local born haole/Japanese man and Filipina couple with 8 years age gap is pretty normal here. In Hawaii mixed Asian people is the norm. I guess in the Mainland and AK it could be different. But when I do encounter this problem, I will use your advice.

PhilippinesDating Scam Stories
It can happen to anybody, myself included. However for me it did not happen, coz I met her through her cousin here. So I could ask all the usual questions first. Also the family here was good and not strange. I guess using the internet to meet women, esp from PI, is role of dice, and u can be lucky or not so lucky.
Psoas10MalePhilippines2010-04-30 20:37:00
PhilippinesExpectations
Actually, it is me who had to adjust more than my wife, when she came here. I have to learn Ilcoano and Tagalog now, since every party we go to, I am the only Puti/Japanese person there. I have to eat more Filipino food, coz it is so easy to get here, I mean I planted bitter melon and mulungay for her, and also papaya as well. She has alot of family here, esp on Oahu. Her Uncle said there is about 300 or so from her brgy in Laoag. The one problem was price of things, esp for the imported Filipino stuff. She also got a job at the bank, coz she can speak Ilocano, and get plenty of sakadas here who don't speak English to well. So all in all she had no real problems adjusting here, even the weather is similar, just less hot.
