My biggest frustration with the whole process is not the waiting game (which, thankfully, is proving to be much faster than I imagined), but the fact that I had to file for a K1 at all.

You see, when Evan & I researched immigration 2 1/2 years ago when we first got engaged, we thought we would end up going another route - family sponsorship.

My grandmother is American, and was going to sponsor me. Unfortunantly, the American government told us that my grandmother was not a close enough relative to sponsor me, but, G-d forbid if something should happen to Evan, she could take over my sponsorship.

To me, that's ridiculous.

But, the rules are the rules!

CanadaSo what next? - Packet 3
Hello everyone!

Okay, so I received packet 3 on Thursday (November 8th), and so far, I have:

- Ordered a new birth certificate (mine is tattered and hard to read)
- Made the appointment for my medical (December 3rd)
- Got the requisition for titer test (MMR, TDP, Hep. B ) - will be going tomorrow, November 12th to the hospital to have it done for FREE
- Got the prescription for Varicella vaccine
- Found the record of having received TDP as a child
- Ordered my RCMP check (today, November 11th)
- Filled out DS-230 & DS-156K
- Asked Evan & our co-sponsor to get their paperwork in order and to fill out their I-134s
- Made an appointment with my Neurologist (November 22nd; will have to be changed to the following week as I'll be in West Virginia (hopefully!) for Thanksgiving)

Am I missing anything?

Seeing as the titer test takes up to 3 weeks for some of the results and that I need to get my neurologist's statement, am I better off rescheduling the medical for a week or two later than the current appointment?

Also, with the checklist, what EXACTLY do I need to send in?
From what I understood, it's simply the checklist, DS-230 part I and DS-156. However, the only version of DS-156 I've been able to find expired on September 30th, 2007 - do I still use it?

We didn't apply for expedited processing, nor are either of us in the military.

We did send in over 75 pages of evidence, including 6 months' worth of phone records, 15-20 pictures taken over the last three years and e-mails between us and between me and his parents. Also, About 10-15 boarding passes.

I have no idea why we were approved so quickly - I imagine it was by the grace of G-d alone.

You have to show proof that you have met within the past two years. You can use pictures, plane boarding passes hotel receipts to show you have met. I don't think telling customs that you are visiting your fiancee is proof of having met. Good luck :thumbs:

My fiance and I met online 3 and a half years ago, and were engaged 2 and a half years ago, on our 2nd visit. We've been visiting each other fairly steadily since, probably about 15-20 times. However, we've never mentionned at Customs that we're engaged, using 'visiting friends', 'getting tattooed', 'attending a convention', etc. as our reasons for visiting.

My concern is this: I am going to see him on August 31st for 2 1/2 weeks, and we'll be starting the K1 process during said visit. I have many ties to Canada (steady, long-term employer, lease for the last 3 years, banking records from the last 6 years, so on and so forth), so am I better off stating that I'm going to visit my fiance and we'll be starting the K1 process, not mentioning the visa application at all, or going back to the standby of visiting a friend?

Neither of us has ever been denied entry, but we've both had incidents of extended questioning, and my bags have been searched at some point or another on the last 3 visits.

I'll have to double-check the packet (it's at my mom's for safekeeping), but it was packed in a manilla envelope, then put in a FedEx bubble mailer, which was then sealed in an extra-large FedEx mailer.

I believe it was in the following order:
    Payment in the form of a cheque for $455

The second one was an email because you copied it here. Was the first one an email also? I never heard of anyone getting an email notification of an NOA1.


The first was not an e-mail - when our cheque was cashed, I entered our case number into the egov system, registered, and there was the NOA1 already in the system. We received the hard copy of that 4 days later. This time, it was an e-mail (actually, two received at the same time), and when I logged onto egov, our case file had been updated and was showing the NOA2, which had the same wording as the e-mail.

We received our electronic notice of NOA1 on September 27th, the same day our cheque was cashed, and received the hard copy of it on October 1st.

According to everything I've seen of a NOA2, this is it. I'm not really sure why USCIS would send us two electronic notifications 28 days apart for the same thing, so I sincerely doubt it's a repeat of our NOA1, especially since an NOA1 is the receipt, and the NOA2 is your approval - you can clearly see that the e-mail was for an approval of the I-129F petition.

To all the people who are hurt and/or angry by this, I'm sorry, and I hope the process moves much faster for you.

All I can personally say is that I never expected it to happen so fast.

edit: In response to previous posts, we did not get or ask for any expediate process, nor are there any extenuating circumstances to our case.
