Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussiondual citizenship (UK/US) for baby ?
Just bumping this to add on the British Embassy Website they state there is no need to register the birth and we can go ahead and apply for a Passport without registering. The Passport is proof baby is a British Citizen or something to that effect. All the same I will call Washington tomorrow to verify.

Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussiondual citizenship (UK/US) for baby ?
We have to do this too for our son. DS1 was born in England so he is a British Citizen by Birth. I ordered 2 Birth Certificates so we can get the ball rolling on the British side and US Passport side so if we don't get the British passport on time we can still travel to see granny in July.

Just regular Petroleum Jelly vasline, its suppose to form a seal to protect the inside of the ear, I've also heard of warm wash cloths in cups to put over the baby's ears but not tried it myself.

Philippinesflying with the baby
I am flying with our son in 2 weeks, he will be 4 months old. I have flown with DS1 before at 4 weeks old so here's what I know.

Use cotton balls with vaseline on the baby's ears to prevent popping and either nurse/bottle or give a paci on take off and landing. Other than that there really isn't much you need to do. Make sre you either gate check a stroller or brin a baby carrier/sling fo easier movement through the airport.

Hope that helps and GL!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresA question regarding visiting while the visa is pending:

Beneficiary coming back to the States while the K-1 is pending:

I've heard from some places that it matters, other places that it doesn't. There are some horror stories here and there, and other folks who say they flew all over the place, and it didn't really matter. I don't think it really matters in our case, since we're probably going to play it better safe than sorry, and use it as an excuse to go somewhere we've never been together (heading for Canada! His money's worth even MORE!), but it's one question I've never really gotten an answer on the same way twice. Thanks, folks!~

Let me have a stab at this. Basically applying for a K-1 visa is considered seeking residency. Coming over to visit via the visa-waiver contradicts it. Using the visa waiver you are declaring you do not intend on moving over here however as you have already submitted a K-1 you are contradicting it. Do I make any sense? I guess it will also depend on which port you enter through and the officer in charge. You can say I am visiting my fiance(e) but will leave to wait for your K-1 and they can either say yay or nay. I would just sit tight than waste a trip in case they don't let you in.

Someone please phrase this a little better, I am such a dork today I can barely string two words together!

Hi all,

My fiance just had her K1 interview on July 31. All paperwork seems fine. But still she didn't get visa. Embassy officer had only one concern that is "why we didn't get married instead of getting engaged?". My fiance told him that we didn't want to rush and we didn't have enough time. However, embassy officer said that there was more that enough time since I stayed in India for more than 4 weeks (Dec 24 2006 to Jan 28 2007). They have asked her to submit proof of our ongoing relationship such as telephone records, e-mails and pics at Ahmedabad VFS office. My fiance had those proof with her at that time and she even offered it to embassy officer but they didn't take it. I don't know what's processing will be after that.

So, should I be worried? Although she is not issued visa, she is not denied either. It does not seem she is issued 221G or a rejection letter.

I have asked my fiance to submit those proof to Ahmedabad VFS asap.
FYI, My finance's parents live in Texas and I live in NJ. There is only 2 yr age diff, and every thing seems fine in terms of race, religion and other factors.

All your comment and help will be truly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Yaaaahooooo, my fiance just received visa in mail. She was issued 221G on July 31. She submitted paperwork to VFS Ahmedabad on August 10 and she got visa on August 20. Not bad after all. I guess all is well if it ends in well. I am thankful to God that she got visa. You guys have no idea but 221G gave me, my fiance and our family so many sleep less nights. Thanks to all those who took time to reply my post.
So, to all those who have filed K1 in India, be prepared to answer the question WHY YOU DIDN'T MARRY INSTEAD OF GETTING ENGAGEMENT? Please don't say there was not enough time. Please don't say we need more time to get to know each other. In my opinion, following answer seems more suitable:
all my fiance's relatives live in US and they all desired that our wedding take place in US so that they can attend wedding. Wish you good luck to all of you.

Hi All,

My fiance's interview is on the 27th at New Delhi. Two questions that I would really appreciate your help with..

1) Is it possible for my fiance to pick up her passport after the interview, instead of waiting for the courier? This is specifically for New Delhi.
Anyone know the process or how long it may take (to pick it up)

2) While I did send my Certificate of Naturalization/Citizenship copy as part of Packet 4, I did not send photocopy of US Passport.
Is this necessary, or one of the two is sufficient.

Looking forward to your responses. Thanks again!

- Vyom

I was told at New Delhi that I can pick it up the next day. Unfortunately, it was Saturday and I didn't want to stay in Delhi for 3 more days so I didn't bother. With courier, It arrived within 4 days.

You should be fine with Certificate of Naturalization but would be nice if she also have a copy of your passport (Should not be required). Another thing that will do is prove that you came to India to visit her etc.

Hope this helps!!!

Sandip

Thanks Sandip for your quick reply! This does help.

One followup - were you told at the Embassy window where you interviewed? Where could you have picked it up, at the embassy or the VFS office?
How long do they "hold" the passport before sending it out via courier?

Thanks again - Vyom

Enbassy window where my wife was interviewed. You have to pick it up from the VFS office. I am not sure how long they hold it but you call the VFS office next day to make sure that they have it and tell them not to courier it.

USPS is best because it is pretty much reliable and cheapest; however it may take 7-10 days or longer to get there. It is really about your only choice because courier will probably not deliver to the village. I sent most things by USPS but sent a few important original documents via FedEx (guaranteed safe and arrives within 3 days usually). In case you are paranoid about some important original documents (like I was!) you can contact a friend or relative in a major city and send via FedEx or DHL, then they can hand deliver to your husband.

I always used DHL and I was very happy with the service/cost.

I had emailed the New Delhi Embassy to find out about taking original documents to the interview or including in VFS package. In part of their reply they state they say that we have to include an original for my date of birth. I think this was a mistake and they meant that she should include her original birth certificate in the package and take a copy if she wants the original back. I have not heard of an ORIGINAL document showing the U.S. Citizen's date of birth being in the packet 4....does this make sense to anyone?

I have been getting mixed messages from the consulate by emails and when my wife goes up to the counter. I am not sure what is the real deal. And we are closing in on the last week of the month, and they still have not updated the September interviews.

You are correct. No need for you birth certificate unless you are using it as a proof for your citizenship. September dates should be updated this week sometime.

Not sure of Chandigarh RPO specifically.

In general they ask for your interview letter and the Passport. Fill a form from available online. That's it. Usually it takes 1 day to issue the PCC in most cities in south india.

Go to the passport office, fill out the form in the morning. You should get the clearance by the evening.

When I booked tickets via Air India for my wife they asked for copies of her passport and visa. My travel agent was here in US but she told me that she needs the documents because the ticket is being issued from India. First of all, my wife didn't have her visa issued at the time and even if it was issued, I was not going to give it to the agent. I told her to issue the ticket from US instead of India because she had told me that visa/passport is not required if the ticket is issued from US. It was very weird.....

Did your husband submitted P3 in person? If he mailed it, please stay on top of it. In my case, after 3 weeks they acknowledged that they have received it and I had to pull some strings with my Congressman. I sent an email to the consulate, they said , although the department usually does not allow anyone to come with the interviewew that it is up to the security whether they let you in or not(depending on how many people are in the building). If security lets you in, they have no concerns.

I guess if everyone brought someone in, then the room would be packed...
