US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionVisa Interview: Pictures for Evidence

Thanks for the info y'all...I'd feel better printing my photos correctly on computer paper, rather than handing the files over to a shop here in town. There's no telling how they will turn out for the money! And if I do it myself, I can add cover pages and captions for the photos :)

When my husband had his interview 3 days ago he took color photos with him. They were printed on printer paper. 2 to a page. When I originally filed at USCIS, I sent them the same (color photos) on printer paper. I am sure it will not be a problem. With the documents I provided he got an instant approval. But I had alot of other stuff too.

Good Luck! I think he will do great!

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionCan I postpone ROC?

My GC expires April first 2013, so I'm supposed to apply next January. However my father back home is very sick (liver failure) and doctors are giving him 6 months to get a transplant or pass away. My family really needs me now and I really need them. Can I postpone ROC? I don't just wanna take off irresponsibly, this is also my home, husband's home and more importantly my son's home. Please if you have any advice please let me know I'd appreciate it a lot.

Sorry to hear about this, but I wish you the best of luck!

TogetherForever13,

Seriously you are awesome! You have taken my nerves from 100 to 20. I am so grateful for your advice. That's so what I needed to hear! You rock!

That's another plus! I hope and pray we don't have AP. I will keep my fingers crossed. I told him what you said about eye contact and speaking clearly and calmly. He said: "thank-you".

Again thank you for your wishes and prayers! Where are you in this process?

TogethorForever13,

Wow you helped me out a ton! I definetly do not have 1 red flag at all. That makes me feel way way better! Those are some hard red flags to overcome too!

I did send pictures (many) from our Wedding in Egypt and other pictures throughout the years.

I also sent notarized letters (Affidavits of a Bona fide Marriage) from people who attended our wedding and my parents who traveled to Egypt for our wedding.

I feel pretty confident now! Thanks a billion!

Don't be worried if there is nothing in your case to worry about and you've been honest with them. Be sure to bring copies of everything you've submitted along with additional evidence of the relationship they may not have or may request from you all. They also may not look at it but it's better to be safe than sorry. Read the Embassy reviews for Egypt and get an idea of what questions will be asked and be prepared for most anything. Hopefully it will go smoothly. Sending you my best wishes on your upcoming interview!

Thanks Dr. A&O

There is nothing in my case to really worry about. We are just so ready for this process to be over. I remember my father (Egyptian) telling me that back in 1970 it was alot easier to come to the USA. As a matter of fact during that time 40 of my dad's family members immigrated with-in a 5 year period of time. By 1980, most of his family memebers were here (with the few exceptions of uncles/aunts who didnt want to leave there business's). I really wish the immigration process was easier. Like the good ol days. It seems like now-a-days everything is heavely scrutinized. Which is understandable that the system changes, I just never thought it would change to this degree. We will definetly be bringing copies of everything (including more proof of our relationship). I guess I am extremely lucky I got to visit him 3 times in the last year - period of time. I am really thank-ful for that. I have read the reviews, but they make me more nervous especially those dreaded words "AP". Of course anyone wants to have a straight approval with-out AP, but looking at how long people wait in AP is just mind blowing. Thank-you for your wishes by the way, we need them

Good luck!!! :)

Thank you Mr. Mounir!

Good Luck

Thank-you

Good luck! Please try to remember as much questions as possible from what they ask and share it with us-- plus if there was anything memorable about the interviewer. We have several posts through out this forum where people review their interviews. I find them most helpful. I think also, not to far down, there is a discussion on what kind of questions they may ask. From what I gather-- be prepared for everything and be annoyingly thorough with your answers.

RFQ - Thank-you for your wishes! I will be sure to post a review from the interview. I agree they are very helpful. Again, thank-you for your advice! I appreciate it!

Hello all,

So my husband has an interview in 6 days, and I am so so nervous. Does anyone have any advice for him? Any what-so-ever?

Your help is very much appreciated!

Middle East and North AfricaWhich names to book ticket
When my husband came here he wrote his first 3 legal names and it was not an issue. The airlines do not really scrutinize deeply into it as long as the major names (First, Second & Last) are on the ticket. Good Luck!

According to my attorney friend, all you need is to make enough money currently to support him.

How much money is enough money to support him.
Thank-you

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAffidavit of Support (I-864)
I recently got married in Egypt being 23 years old, and after returning to America I have decided to start the process of immigration for my Husband. I have already filed the I-130 and mailed it to USCIS in Chicago, IL. I am waiting for them to acknowledge receipt and approve it, then hopefully forward it to NVC. In the meantime I have done research about the next step. This is preparing the Affidavit of Support (I-864). However, I am coming across what I feel is a huge dilemma. As a requirement of the I-864, they are requesting the last 3 years of Federal Tax Returns. These tax returns must consecutively meet the Poverty Guidelines for the year. The current amount for a Household of 2 is: $18,387.00 (However, when I filed 2008, 2009 & 2010 taxes, I was not married). So how can I be responsible to meet the requirement of 2 people? These guidelines are said to be for the sponsor. So I do believe this includes me. Additionally I did not meet the requirement for 2 of the 3 years (Poverty Guideline). In 2008, I exceeded the required 18K; however in 2009/2010 I did not meet the requirement. I do not own any assets except my vehicle (the only one) which is financed and has money owed on it. I am also currently unemployed as I have just returned from visiting my husband in his home country. Additionally I have lived all my life in my parents’ home. I am aware that I can file a I-864a with the ability to use my parents income. However, both of my parents are retired and my father is collecting social security. In addition, the last 3 years of his taxes: 2008/2009 & 2010 are in the negative +-40K each. However he does own assets. He has 3 homes (2 rentals, and our primary residence). However he has mortgages on all 3 and because of the current real estate market, the houses are all almost upside down. So if USCIS does the math (appraised value – money owed = almost nothing), I am not sure they can consider them to be assets. Finally my parents have 3 cars total: (1 financed and 2 paid off). Which if you go by asset only, the cars are worth about 16K combined (not including the financed one) or (my car that is financed). I am having an extremely difficult time figuring out what I can do. I am sure I will not qualify using my information alone, and I am unsure that submitting my parents information will help. I do not know what to do! Can someone please help me or point me in the right direction?
I really wish that USCIS ran credit checks. Because if they did, I think I would be okay.
Thanks for reading!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAdministrative Review...how long to check status?

Thanks for the reply........I hope sooner then years!!!! I'm hoping for the best!

Jenny

It can take a week or more (from what I hear) to be able to check status on cases using the website. As for AP, the CO (Counselor) did not give your husband an idea of how long AP would be. Many times they give you a time frame (2/8/14 weeks, etc)?

As for standard wait times in AP, there really is no set time frame. Each case is individual and can take weeks or years.

Hang in there & good luck!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWriting an expedite letter

I am about to start writing an expedite letter to NBC. My priority date is October 29th. I know some of you might think that its still too early for that... However I have an emergency case and I have to send it! However, I was wondering if any of you sent a letter before... How should the format be? Do they actually take a look at it? Would it be better if I call instead? Any piece of advice will help :) Thanks in advance :)

I would not worry about the format of the letter as much as I would worry about the envidence you are sending to facilitate the request for an expedite. Do not doubt yourself. Be sure to be detailed and complete in why your case should be expedited.

Good Luck

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWriting an expedite letter
Kaale & Dalli:

A Priority Date is a United States immigration concept - it is the date of filling for labor certification. This date establishes ones place in the queue for an employment or family based permanent residency permit (also known as a Greencard).

The United States Department of State publishes a monthly visa bulletin which lists cutoff priority dates for different immigration categories and birth countries. Only those intending immigrants with priority dates before the cutoff date are permitted to file their Adjustment of Status (AOS) applications and obtain their green card. The cutoff dates generally move forward over time as old cases are disposed of. However, in certain cases, such as if a large number of old cases work their way through the system at about the same time, the cutoff dates can actually retrogress (or roll back). If an individual already has a pending AOS application on file when a retrogression occurs that places the cutoff earlier than the applicant's priority date, USCIS sets the application aside and will not adjudicate it until the priority date is current again.

See current priority date:

I hope that helped you out!
