It is in no way compulsory to complete military service in the US unless there is a draft, and that hasn't happened for decades.

For certain ages (18-26?) it is required that you sign up for the selective service. This was automatically done as part of the AOS process. See the portion just above the signature on the I-485 under the heading "Selective Service Registration"


actually he entered usa since he was 20 years old and has not registered with any selective services in america and now he is 30 years old and never got the chance to register with any of the selective services in america. what should he do and is there any thing that he must be aware of? or any cons and pros?

hi does anybody here in vj can help me? my husband is about to apply for citizenship and as far as he know he was informed by his relatives to apply for a military service coz they said it is part compulsory for men to join the training for military service in usa.

so they said to write an excuse letter/apology letter for not being in the service... is it true? and if not what should he do?

Where's your tattoo at? The physician would certainly ask you if she sees it. I've read some posts here that the examining physician asks people with tattoo questions such as when and where did you have your tattoo and if it's a tattoo made by a real artist (like kind of those certified tattoo artists, im not sure, y'know, that sterile clinic/studio/tattoo equipments blah blah kind of stuff)

I hope it won't be that much of a problem since all of those I've read just passed the exam and that's it.

Let's see if we could have more opinions about it.


whew! everybody here says it all good to go even if you have tattoo maybe i am just so worried about it... well i have it on my right palm and the other one on my left hip bone.. i made everything from sterilizing the needles to cleaning the area of the skin... thank you nin! :)

Thanks friend,The question He asked me is just what did I do to those countries I'd been,he was impressed with all the proof I handed to him He didn't even take a look at those emails just the front page where it showed the "Subject"time"and sender.

He is really a nice guy he had asked me a few question and he want me to tell him my experienced while I was out of the country and living in a foreign Land.He look at those pics of my fiance and me with friends,He likes looking at those photos so I guess better bring as much as you can as he wont pay attention to any of other proofs,He saw the pics of me riding the Ostrich and my fiance standing beside me holding the ostrich,He showed it to the staffs over there and he said He can't believe that is possible to ride an Ostrich,He ask me if he could do that and I guess he is pretty excited and serious to try the ride.!He also take a look at those pictures of US,on screen prints out,And he saw those ones we Played "Backgammon" together on yahoo,said man that's cool hehe!

They were very nice people and you wont felt nervous at all because they just wanna have a casual conversations with you.He asked if we both got kids and why my fiance waiting over 30 years to get married,I told him that we both don't have kids but would work that out when I get there and he laughed.Told him my fiance won't wait anymore longer to get married as we are planning to do it pretty soon lol.

He asked also if during my stayed at those countries I'd been if I didn't really get married there I said that I am pretty sure that I am not!,he then said ok let check it out!and he browse something on computer but I don't really think that he check it out though.He asked why I didn't finish my study in UK,I said that it wasn't my priority after I met my fiance,he asked if I would like to finish my study in the states,I said someday but not my priority right now as I wanted to have a family first.Maybe in the next few years.

GOOD LUCK TO EVERY ONE WHO's having an Interview soon!don't worry questions not really hard if you know the answer,they wont ask you something that you possibly dunno the answers!

Hi epey_denz I saw your timeline before and im confused.. as I remember na-DENIED yung first I-130 nyo diba?.. Then this year you REFILE and smooth sailing na.. so are you still under F2A or nag-UPGRADE na kayo to CR1/IR1?

Gosh! I just called NVC.. and the AVR told me that "... your Case was completed on Nov. 30th Please allow 8 weeks for further instructions..." I can't believe this im so happy.. im so thankful they didn't ask for RFE though hubby didn't submit an Employment Letter... whew!

in our case we prepared copies of :

credit card (US Credit Card - supplementary ako)
old & new pics,
wedding pics,
health insurance (na beneficiary spouse mo)
SSS form with married name
emails,
cards,
pics of valentines gifts/cards
blah, blah, blah..
but no transcript of records.. hmmm...

do you have any timeline? like mine (see below)..

wanna add something... kase sa link na nka state sa online payment after we paid the iv fee may link kase to applicant document something and from there d nga sila nag ask for transcript of records but sa philippine embassy na website may naka state doon "preparing for the interview" may naka lagay that we need to provide secondary evidences like baptismal certificate, medical records, school record and year books... so i was wandering if we need to bring all those things... bigat kaya nung year book.

If you have the transcripts you should definitely bring them. Also, just bring updated evidence from the information sent in with the applications. Make sure you bring copies of everything that has been submitted before too!

No, no problem... Having a SSN has no impact on denial or approval... Many people who are non immigrants have SSN (workers, students etc...) However that SSN is your lifetime SSN so you will have to let them know you have been assigned one and once you get in the US you have to notify Social Security that you have changed status to LPR...

Im currently living and working in Seattle, WA. My wife just moved here from Asia and recently got a green card. Unfortunatly I just lost my job here & have a limited time left in which to act until money runs out. I've been applying to various local companies in my area of expertise, either they're not hiring or not interested. Have gotten a few "bites" from other companys in Cali & Illinois but the most interested one was in London, Ontario.

If I dont get any other offers from within the U.s. very very soon I will be forced to take this and relocate..now the question is what happens to my wife's Green Card status, and what must I do in terms of paper work if we really have to move there on short notice? Im talking within 2 months max?

I have no idea yet, should I get the job there in Ontario, if the company will offer any help in terms of visa's ect. but its a real bind & time/money is running out!

Any advice/help is appreciated!

Wannabe_texan,

My FP letter didn't had any thing about walk in, but I tried an it worked. They only thing I made sure was I appeared on the same day / Time of the week as per my schedule but 2 weeks early.

As I have read some where that some centers only do FP during certin days of the week.

On an other note while I was wait to be called. I notice an other dude trying to do the Walk-in FP he was refused and I think following were the reason

1- He was supposed to go to counter 11 ( In Seattle DO) , Lady on counter 11 has to step away for few seconds and instead of waiting for her he went to counter # 3. and the lady at Counter # 3 asked him to re-schedule ( I believe she was not aware of walk in as she was not dealing the FP cases)

2- He was not dressed properly, I recommend you should be in the formal office dress ( not need for the suit)

Just my 2 cents

Just wanted to give a headsup to those who have biometrics on the 6th-10th (think there are 3 of the Juners), USCIS has said they may have 'overbooked' so some people are getting canceled (you can see the threads in the I-751 and AOS forums).

System errors caused a number of Application Support Centers to be overscheduled during the week of July 6-10, 2009. As a result, some applicants may receive cancellation notices for appointments originally scheduled during this timeframe.

If you do not receive a cancellation notice, please appear at your ASC appointment as scheduled. If you do receive a cancellation notice, you will soon receive an ASC appointment notice for a new date and time, typically for an appointment within the next two to four weeks.

My Appointment was for July 7th , I guess I did the right thing and got it done next day I received it by Walk-in (FP done on June 23rd)

Also I called the FBI help line yesterday, my FP report was sent back on 24th June.

Hi Kashif - congrats on getting your FP notice!

Does it say on it like Jess1's that you can go any Wednesday or Saturday or something like that? If so, then you can go anytime that's convenient.
Otherwise, if the ASC is not far from you, you can certainly try to go earlier even if it doesn't say that, and explain to the guard that you will be traveling, and perhaps they'll let you in and perhaps not. You can always send the letter back in for rescheduling the appointment also.
