Philippineswhen to schedule an appointment

hi guys, just want to know...does anybody here waited for the embassy letter then scheduled their interview? or u can call them in advance to schedule it? coz when i called last july 16 they have our case num but the operator told me to call again after two weeks. should i wait for it or i can call again this week?
whats gonna be in the letter from the US embassy Manila?

You don't have to wait for the letter to come. If you have the case number, wait few days then you can schedule for the interview. You need to have your medical done prior the interview.

PhilippinesPhilippines Honeymoon Ideas
http://www.bellarocc.../?file=kop1.php This is a really nice place. It's like going to Greece!

Hi VJ Friends!

Me and my Filipina fiancee will be having a wedding in PH in mid-January 2011. I would like to plan a nice Honeymoon for us, but I know she is tired of always going to hot and sunny sandy beaches. I'm curious if anyone has some suggestions for a nice resort or hotel - where we can have many activites, but not all beaches and swimming. Of course, I suggested Baguio - but she's already been there several times, and I'd kinda like to take her somewhere she's never been.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!!

Thanks.

PhilippinesLearning my fiancee 's culture

We spent 1 week together and we went to the salon together. She did say that once we are together she wants to do my nails instead of us wasting money @ the salon.

One thing for sure, I used to enjoyed with smile ear to ear was when she used to serve or cut a piece of chicharon or fish and put it on my plate.. (L). YES I SAID IT SHE MELTED MY HEART WITH SOME OF HER ACTIONS.

Yeah those are natural Filipina traits, it's a good thing American's appreciate it a lot. Posted Image

PhilippinesLearning my fiancee 's culture

She knows he vs she but she keeps calling her bro 'she ' and her sister 'he'. I just alert her with a smile..and she goes *oopppss*.

Yes we get a little confused sometimes what to use specially the "his/her" thing that you're talking about. For example"his mom" or "her dad" we get all mixed up to whom we are addressing to, when it is male to female or vice versa. So it's better to mention the name of the person to avoid confusion.. like "Pedro's mom" or "Maria's dad" maybe? Posted Image

There so many other things you would discover, we don't usually used knife when we are eating.. Some Filipina's don't like using dishwasher and prefer hand wash because they believe it's more clean.

Sometimes it's hard for us to refuse when being invited or offered something good we can't just say "no' straightforward.

Maybe other members here have some more views to share.. You have to read more of the Filipino culture so you'll get to know more about her beliefs and understand her... Posted Image

PhilippinesShare some Filipino Recipes!

Hi everyone

I am leaving for the US soon and unfortunately I am not a very good cook. I know for sure that I will miss Filipino food and so I want to practice cooking it! I know I cannot survive on just pizza, burger, mashed potato and pasta, I need my rice and meats! Fortunately, my fiance also likes Filipino food (especially chicken dishes like adobo, afritada) but he wasn't a fan of sinigang which he found too sour, and also he doesn't eat cheese!

I was hoping we could use this thread to post tried and tested recipes, I know there are many online but I would to try a recipe that people can vouch for. And also, what filipino food does your USC husband enjoy?

Thanks in advance! :)

PhilippinesIs middle name suppose to change with marriage?

Hi all hope everyone is well. Has been 2 years now since my love has been in the US. So have not checked in here for awhile now.

Have a burning question. Is your wifes middle name suppose to change when you get married? For example if Mary Ramos Vargas married John Smith should her name now become Mary Vargas Smith? In my opinion after marriage her name would be Mary Ramos Smith. Hope what I am asking is clear.

In Filipino custom, it would be Mary Vargas Smith.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsPost NOA2

I contacted the NVC this morning and spoke to an operator. They have no record of the case but when I read her the paragraph that says my petition has been forwarded to the US Consulate she recommended that I contact the USCIS to verify that they sent it directly to the US Consulate. The representative at USCIS seemed to believe that it was sent to the US Consulate. I noticed on our NOA2 that there is a number above the beneficiary. I am wondering if this is the case number? I guess if it has to go to the NVC then I will have to wait for them to verify that they received it. Otherwise, I guess I can call the US Consulate to see if they received it....

Case number starts with MNL, u can try contacting USEM Manila and inquire if they already have the case there. Goodluck!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresJoint Sponsor

Hi,

I am the petitioner and i am employed but, i don't meet the minimum income requirement for the AOS and i would like to use my dad as a joint sponsor. Both me and my dad are at different addresses so, i can't use I-864A. I can only use I-864. In that case, does both me and my dad will have to fill out two seperate I-864 forms.

Thanks

Yes! Separate I-864 for both sponsor and joint sponsor. Also need 3 years federal tax returns, w2's and proof of citizenship as supporting documents.

Thanks for the answer!

Does anyone know if we can keep any of the documents from that envelope after she passes the POE? Or should we get additional copies of the NBI clearance and CENOMAR while we are in the Philippines before she comes to the U.S. for good?

She doesn't need the CENOMAR and NBI clearance when she get here I think? She should get additional copies of her Birth Certificate because she would need it when she starts filing for AOS.

I received the approval notice on May 5th. I emailed the US Consulate two days ago and they have no record of the case. How do I find the case number on the notice? When I talked to a USCIS 2nd Level Representative she said it was sent to the NVC. If that is true then it is just taking longer to arrive than it usualy does...
At this point it is hard to know the truth....

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPlease Advise on Approved I-129-F Petition

This is what the first paragraph of my approval notice says;

The above petition has been approved, and forwarded to the listed consulate. Please contact the consulate with any questions about visa issuance, or if you would like them to forward the petition to a different consulate. The petitioner can also file Form I-824, Application for Action on an Approved Petition, with this office to request that we notify another consulate of the petition approval for visa processing purposes. THIS FORM IS NOT A VISA AND MAY NOT BE USED IN PLACE OF A VISA.

Does this mean I will have to file a Form I-824 just to get them to forward the case to NVC? That is one of the options on form I-824....This circumstance really sucks!

Your case with MNL number will be forwarded to the Manila Consulate. When did you get the notice? Just wait a week or so then try calling Manila embassy hotline (call center) to inquire about your case. If the case was already in Manila, you can schedule for interview.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresReceived Mail With Case Number

Good afternoon all. I received a mail a couple of days ago with our MNL case number dated May 13. What do i do next? My fiance havent receive anything from the embassy back home. I was under the impression that she was suppose to receive a packet from the embassy with all the forms to fill out and then we can schedule the interview. Should I go ahead and call the 888 number and schedule an interview? Should my fiance go ahead and get her medical done? Also, this mail was sent to me but had her name instead of mine. Thanks for your time.

I already have my interview done when my i received what they called Packet 3. When my fiancé got the case with MNL we waited for a week and call the 888 call center to schedule for the interview. When you able to schedule the interview date , then u can get the medical done, advisable a week prior the interview date.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresthings just keep getting better

Well last week I called the embassy and they had only received the email from the NVC and wouldnt let me schedule anything so I called tonight and it must be all good to go because they let me set up the interview for later this month, which works out just great because we were trying to get ahead of the game by getting the medical all done, she flys to manila tomorrow to spend a few days doing that and also some seminar she claims to have to attend(which I havent found anywhere), but just wanted to thank all who have given me advice, and want to know if there is anymore that I should have? I am mailing out the final pack to her in the morning it should be there in two weeks and then she should be good to go. Her interview is on the 23rd of July, with god's will and she passes I figured her arrival time to be around the 1st or 2nd week of august does that sound about right? also any recommendation on where to book flights here? All I have really found was Philippine air, but they only go to san fran, la, or vegas. id like to get her into either chicago, milwaukee, minneapolis, detroit or st. louis if possible. Thanks again!

I booked my flight in http://www.expedia.com/ and get a good deal since we booked the flight earlier. I did connecting flight from Manila to Hongkong.. then Hongkong to O'hare.. The ticket fee doesn't include travel tax i think so she would have to pay that at the airport. I hope you would be able to find one.

Good luck!

Hi everybody,

I just checked our case status online and received the following message:

"On July 7, 2010, we mailed you a notice that we have approved this I129F PETITION FOR FIANCE(E). Please follow any instructions on the notice. If you move before you receive the notice, call customer service at 1-800-375-5283.

For approved applications/petitions, post-decision activity may include USCIS sending notification of the approved application/petition to the National Visa Center or the Department of State. For denied applications/petitions, post-decision activity may include the processing of an appeal and/or motions to reopen or reconsider and revocations."

Does this mean we will be receiving our NOA2 soon?

No you won't receive notification requesting I-134 documents.

I K1 Visa petition has been approved by USCIS Service Center in Vermont, and has been forwarded to NVC and Now my K1 petition package is on its way to Manila and I have also obtained the Manila number. My question is I understand I need to send the I 134 forms along with my fiancial documents from the bank, letter head from my employer, copies of W2's and 1040 form latest tax statements. What I dont understand is I have seen several comments about having to send a complete copy of my original petition to my fiance! Is this necessary. I dont have the original. all i have is the copy I made! If my original petition is being forwarded to Manila they will have all the information about your meeting, letter of intent, photo's phone records etc. Why do I have to send another completed copy to my finacee? Please can somebody tell me if this will be necessary!
Thank you!

In my experience copies of the fiancée petition is not required during the interview.
I -134 forms along with your financial documents like bank statements, employment letter, pay stubs, W2's and income tax returns are very necessary.

Good luck.

Restrictions

Though LPRs hold the same rights and liberties as citizens (except voting), there are certain restrictions LPRs must comply with to maintain their green card status. These primarily include limitations on international travel; LPRs must be present in the United States to prove their intention to reside; LPRs who leave the United States for periods of one year or more without getting authorization from the USCIS are considered in abandonment of their U.S. residence and are stripped of their green card. Simply entering the United States once per year to make a "presence" is not enough to maintain a green card. Patterns of absence are closely monitored by the USCIS and are recorded at every point of exit and entry.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresClueless on K1 Visa and I-864 Affidavit of Support Help

Hi, I am a newbie at this site and recently my bf (American citizen) and I (Filipino) decided to
go the K1 visa route. But both of us are clueless as to how or when to start.

We have both been researching on it and it seems like it is overwhelmingly long time wise and hard.
However, I think reading through blogs and forums we have got more or less everything.

Except the ff: We don't really email each other all conversations we have used thus far is through the phone.
He can produce phone bills but I on the other can't since I use Magic Jack and Yahoo Minutes? Is phone bills really important for both side? And how would the embassy or uscis know the phone number is mine?

We have yahoo chat logs though since if we don't talk on the phone we use Yahoo Messenger. Would that do?

We have met when I went to the States so boarding pass and tickets and hotel receipts we can present that.

And as for the I-864, we are both concerned about it since almost everyone talk about employer certifcation and all that. My bf is self-employed and has a business of his own, so what can we use for financial support or proof of financial ability to support in lieu to employment certification and pay slips?
And what is pay stubs?

Thank you very very much. This site has been very helpful to both of us and enlightening.
We really appreciate your help as we really need it.

Is hiring a lawyer helpful for the preparation of paperwork?

Hi Joyce,

Hiring a lawyer doesn't guarantee faster processing and it cost a lot of money. You can do far much better than a lawyer, just make sure you submitted the documents correctly. My husband, was really cautious in filling out the forms and he's so worried he would make mistakes and we'll get an RFE. He even thought of hiring a lawyer, it does cost a lot of money so he decided to do it by himself. It took few months before he able to send the whole K-1 packet. He did a good job, the process was smooth and we got approval within 3 months. Posted Image

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCo-Sponsor support document

Hello all, has anyone used a co-sponsor on a support document to obtain a finance visa. I don't have a job now but I do have money in bank. We both plan on working but jobs are scarce right now. Or visa should be coming up for NAO2 approval soon so we would probably need a co-sponsor for support. I have a family member that will supply this document and has the money to support the 4 of us. So the bottom line question is should this be a problem? Also what is the forms we need to fill out for sponsor and co-sponsor?
Thanks
Chris

Hi Chris,

I also have a co-sponsor during my interview in US embassy Manila and I got my visa. I think it all depends on the case, my husband who is my fiancé that time was a graduate student, just make sure you will be able to show that she won't be in any way be a burden in the US government.

Good luck!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPassport Type Photos for the K1 packet

Hello all. The "passport type photos" that are required for me and my fiancee are specified as 2 inch X 2 inch (or 51 mm X 51 mm). I just received the photos from my fiancee in the Philippines which were taken at a Kodak facility that specializes in passport photos. Her photos are only 1 3/4 inches X 1 3/8 inches. They are exactly the size of the photo in MY passport, BUT they are not 2 x 2. I know that this is a "forum" and that "opinions" are abundant here, but I would like some feed back from someone with actual knowledge or experience on this matter. Will these work or not? Will they be rejected?

It should be 2x2.

I would agree to wait till the visa is in her hand. Ours took nearly 2 weeks to receive.

Philippinesto all of you with facebook accounts
I have a brother who refuses to get a FB account simply because he is a very private person.

My take on Security concerns:

There is a lot of news regarding security on social networking websites. A FB account holder gets to decide how much of anything they put on FB is accessible by others. There are default settings (not sure what they are) and you must be mindful when ever adding anything new (photo albums, applications, etc.) to change the settings from the default to your settings. Certainly, it can be a lot to manage (and for some, not worth the effort).

Personally, I restrict the access to photos, posts, notes, etc. to only people listed on my FB Friends list.
The only thing you can see about me is that I am male, my websites that I promote and my pic. That is it.

All too often I see people posting reactionary items about how FB has done this or done that and to go change your settings immediately. Too many times the thing that they are "warning" everyone about (usually to disable) is an item that I have set to only share with FB friends (not everyone, not Friends of Friends) so I don't have to change that setting.

Certainly, I have had more problems with financial institutions compromising my data (not online) than anything I have ever posted on a social networking site.

Lastly, it is a personal choice on whether to have an account or not. You should not have to defend your decision to anyone. Most (not all) of the profile pictures I have chosen to display on my FB profile have included my fiance. Certainly, one of my "evidence of relationship" that I submitted was a printed page of both of our FB profile pages that shows our relationship status, posts of amour on our walls to each other and out profile pics that include both of us on both profiles (reminder: only my profile pic is viewable if not already on my friends list). If managed correctly, your FB info is yours to keep.

Good luck to you both.
