My husband did his biometrics on August 5th and no word yet on his and it still shows processing online. I saw some people who filed after us got their cards weeks ago so I'm just hoping that our is coming soon too.

We were pleasantly surprised to get an email and text message on October 19 that we were approved and card production was ordered. The paper NOA came the following Monday (10/25) and the actual card came that Tuesday (10/26). No interview, either. Woo hoo!

I've heard that interview or not for the conditional doesn't really matter when it comes to the permanent card. We had an interview for our conditional and had a perfect submittal package. Who knows what the formula is but I agree it would be nice to see a few more cards get approved soon!

Hello, I'm sort of in the same boat as you. We filed our I-129f about 4 weeks ago, so have many months to go before I can move down to the US. Still, I do worry about being out of work for such a long stretch of time. At least the Vancouver consulate is faster than Montreal at scheduling interviews, I'm optimistically hoping to have my interview in March or April. We'll see how it goes! If I get too broke, I figure I can always come back to Canada, stay at my parents and do a little temp work or something...

We Canadians are lucky that visiting the US is easy, even during the K1 process. Still, even with our open border and friendly relationship with the US, our immigration visas take just as long as everyone elses. But, that's only fair, we are a completely separate country, as we constantly like to remind people!


Hi Merdien! My boyfriend is in Alberta and I know that is considered western Canada. So that means his processing is through Vancouver too? That's good news! Although I'm in CA and he's in Alberta the flights are not so long but so darn expensive. I can fly to the UK fo cheaper than I can into Edmonton. Geesh! LOL He is trying to work out something with work and his sister near Calgary (to rent from her if his home sells early) and his house to have an extended stay here in late winter/early spring. He's in the same boat as you with the house to sell and then using proceeds while waiting and spending more time here. I was LOL at your comment about being a whole different country, my boyfriend and I alway make jokes about "you Canadians" and "you Americans" and I get a kick out of saying I have an international boyfriend. LOL But we are not so different at all!

Both of us worked and we would arrange for long weekends together using holiday and vacation days so we would have a 4 day visit alternating locations each month. Spend this time with your friends and family at home, knowing that when you are finally together you will have each other, but you will be leaving them behind. When it is all said and done, the time apart really does 'disappear' into your memory. Good luck on your journey.


9 months?!? Ugh! You'd think that with Canada being pretty benign and adjacent and NAFTA and all that great stuff that it wouldn't be so darn long. I was anticipating 6-9 months, with the hopes of being more like 6 but now I guess I ought to assume much much longer. At least there is good info on here of what is really going on. I wish my boyfriend could use his vacation days to come here for Christmas but winter is his busy time at work (propane business) so it's hard for him to get away until spring. Believe me, I'm not complaining. star_smile.gif I know I have it a lot easier than a lot of couples on here. I feel very fortunate we do get to see each other as often as we do. I was just curious how some other couples manage to take so much time together while the paperwork is processing.

Aha! It seems the key is flexibility that people have with work. I think that is key for us to. I get only 3 weeks per year vacation and he gets two but his company is managed by a big ####### and it's difficult for him to take off other than weekends (despite having vacation days available). I could dig into savings for a long stay with him if I could get more than two weeks off at a time at work. Yes, we are lucky that he's in Canada and not somewhere that is more difficult to have visits. I can only imagine how much more difficult it is when you have to go many months between visits.

I am brand new to this forum and am on the verge of filing for the K1 with my Canandian boyfriend and have been doing a lot of reading here first. This website is extremely helpful and I am anxiously awaiting completing the first round of paperwork (I'm the USC) and sending it off... just so I can wait more.... LOL

Anyway, I see lots of question about visiting each other during the waiting process. I understand the safe way to visit each other, especially with him coming here to California and am glad I have these tips. But we can barely do more than long weekends to visit each other since we both work and maintain homes. How are others getting the time and money to visit for 30, 60 or even 90 days? I know legally UK and Canadians can visit easily for long periods of time legally, but how are people doing it time and money wise? Maybe this is too private of a subject but I'm wondering if people who can do the very long stays do not need to work (i.e. wealthy), are students between semesters, unemployed, working legally in the others country, student in the others country, etc.? We have been wracking our brains to be able to spend more time together (we currently see each other once per month for a long weekend alternating locations) and it's just so short. Not to mention we don't *really* know what it would be like to live together. But in order for him to come here he'd have to quit his job and sell his home to have funds to live here since he could not legally work here yet, but as we know he needs that tie of home and job to show he has ties back home. And I cannot quit my job here to go there for a long period of time.

Anyway, these are just some thoughts we've had and don't know how others manage such long visits. Oooooh, dreaming of the day we can spend more than 3 or 4 nights together....
