Good information about the touches. I agree that I would not want there to be too few petitions as previously mentioned. I see that all the time in my work.

Certainly my thoughts on all this are by no means scientific and I take it for what it is. This is such a great forum and I am so glad I found it. Posted Image

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNumber of K1 petitions submitted to VSC

That is really interesting VosnMars. I think it's very possible. Although the popular opinion is that the touches don't mean much, it still makes me feel like my petition is not sitting somewhere idling in a box or something. (Some petitions have been approved without any touches at all). But obviously they were doing something with our petitions those days. My timeline right now is predicting a May approval. I would be happy with that. The attorney I used still thinks it will be sooner. (the earliest possible month being March). I was thinking somewhere in the middle, and maybe if I'm lucky, it would happen in April. But the whole process is very strange to me. At times it seems very arbitrary, so I'm not getting my hopes too high. The fact that some petitions from mid November have been approved at VSC is a good sign though. When I looked through all the timelines from 08, the same thing seemed to be happening. Many of the fall petitions were coming through in 80-95 days and then when winter hit (months of December, January, and February), there were many petitions that were processed in 50-65 days during those months. I would certainly think there are fewer petitions submitted during the holidays (people are just busy and it does take some time to put all this together). So I guess all we can do now is wait and see what happens.

I understand the opinion that touches don't mean much and it has been described as just moving from one side of the desk to the other, but like you said, it does make me feel like something happened. It could be a whole number of things so I try not read into much and take it for what it is, that someone touched the file and that's fine with me. It is nice to see it during the process.

I was hoping for the same approval time and I think it's good to reflect on past trends and patterns just because it gives me an idea of what I could expect and it is helpful information. Also, I thought like you that there might be fewer petitions submitted during the holidays, but I wanted to submit mine at the beginning of the new year and not at the end of December. As a (local) government employee we have so many people gone in our office from Thanksgiving to New Year's for weeks at a time so I just wanted to be past all that for various reasons that I hope could make a difference. Who knows if it will, but all we can do is patiently wait and I will look back at this time to see how it compares. :-)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNumber of K1 petitions submitted to VSC

I was playing around with the timeline search feature and saw some interesting trends. The number of K1 petitions submitted to VSC for the months of November 2011, December 2011, and January 2012 seemed to be the lowest in years (at least according to the number of timelines created for those months on this website). I think January 2012 has only 38 timelines created thus far for K1 petitions submitted to VSC. I noticed that during 2008 (another year with far fewer petitions submitted), many K1s were pushing through VSC with times ranging from 45 - 60 days... It was interesting to look at the trends, and I'm curious to see what happens to some of the more recently filed petitions this year.

I am also interested in the trends, but what I noticed is that our NOA1 dates are the same and although my "touch" dates aren't posted, they match yours exactly. Maybe our petitions are in the same stack :-)

Along with writing out phrases, I would suggest contacting the airline carrier for language assistance. There are also "meet and assist/greet" paid services in airports (not sure if all?) that take you where you need to go. I would check to see if they are offered and willing do what you need such as getting her to the next flight. Lastly, I would print out any maps of the airport, terminals, and gates that are offered online at the airport and airline websites so she can have a visual (at least that helps me).

Good luck

Not sure what you have tried, but maybe you can try copying it in color? I had that problem with my passport where the stamp was pink on a green and pink visa sticker and when copying in B&W, you couldn't see it at all. I tried in color and that worked perfect. Maybe that could work for you and to copy it a shade or 2 darker to really pick up as much detail on it.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHas anyone been approved by Vermont??
Sabi and I have the exact same timeline and I completely agree with her about how it feels. I will say this: stop looking at approvals from Cali. It drove me crazy and seeing 30, 60 and 90 day approvals while I waited about 6.5 months. Just look at VSC processing and find the May filers thread on VJ (if you haven't already) so you can get some support from those in the same situation as you. Those things really helped me get through it.

Good luck and speedy approvals for all!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresInterview
I would renew your passport now Nancy. My fiance also had to do the same thing last week, but luckily it only took 6 days. Since you email the Embassy in Kuwait once you have all your documents together to schedule your interview, you can do that after you get your new passport and your DS-156 form will have your new passport information as well.

Plus just yesterday my fiance went to transfer his residency from his old passport to his new one and the sponsor has to do it and they required 2 pictures, but with a blue background so he had to go get 2 other passport style photos today. I think he said he had to transfer the residency to get his police certificate in Kuwait? I can't remember exactly. Either way, you probably already know that, but I just thought I would pass it on just in case.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresIranian k1 and k3 Visas Getting Rejected!

Hello fellow VJs,

I am currently waiting on my NOA2 for my fiance visa.

My fiance is in Iran and as you may there's a lot of turmoil going on there.

I have heard of the rumor of "people getting rejected" for no reason for their K1 and K3 visas. It has been really stressing me out to hear that and wanted to know if anyone has experienced this or knows of someone that has gotten rejected for no obvious reason. I would appreciate anyone from Iran or any other middle eastern country responding and letting me know! :help:

I'm going to respond to this since nobody else has. First, I would read the VJ reviews for the Embassy, read posts in the MENA forum, and also the forum for Waivers/Administrative Process (221g) to see if other members talked about denials and what happened. I don't have any experience or know anybody, but I have seen people from all over say they were denied for no reason. I don't really know if they were honestly ignored when asking why or maybe they didn't understand the reasons? Who knows?

I will say this, try and focus on just your situation. Be real about your case and what, if any, red flags you may have. If you have a solid relationship, have every requirement met, all your paperwork/evidence in order, understand and can address any issues they might bring up, then I would just put your head down and keep pushing forward because not much else is under your control.

I know my situation is different, but my fiance is an Armenian who has Iranian citizenship and lives in Kuwait. I'll be honest, he did wonder if he could get denied just because he has Iranian citizenship. He just had his interview in Kuwait and 2 days later was issued his K-1 visa. All we did was what I told you and it worked out in the end for us. I hope the same for you.

Good luck

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNOA2 Whats next? i-134???

I just received my Noa2 FINALLLYYYY after 7 long months. Can someone please tell me what i have to do next? The visa flow chart says i have to fill out an i-134 affidavit of support, but i dont see that anywhere on uscis.gov and it does not state that on any of the paper work that i would need to fill that out. I called the help line also and they told me i do not have to do anything for his interview but wait. But im confused as to why the flow chart says i should prepare that. Also, i do not make the requirement on that form, can i have someone else do it for me, thats the only reason why i have not filled it out regardless because i have to have someone do it for me.
Please help im confused.

Congrats on receiving your approval. After your petition is approved, you should probably refer to the Embassy website for more specific information about their process. On your timeline it says Greece, so I will go with that. Here is the link and at the bottom it says, "Next step:" so keep clicking through it until you get to the stage you are at now. Us Embassy - Greece

After you click through a couple of times it does say, "Affidavit of Support (I-134) for K-Visas only! An applicant for a K or V visa is required to file an Affidavit of Support, form I-134 at the time of the interview proofing that he or she is not likely at any time to become a public charge."

I don't have any experience with co-sponsors, so I am unable to comment on that. Good luck

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow can a K-1 misrepresentation denial be overturned?

... The Kuwait couple having an Orthodox Priest bless their "rings" at an "engagement ceremony" are playing with fire and gasoline together. Time for a change of plans. Marry or don't marry. No play marriage.

IIRC, the first step in an Armenian wedding is blessing the rings. The couple is not married at that point, and presumably the idea was to stop there. Wedding interruptus. Bad idea, very bad idea. Very easily misconstrued as a wedding by someone unfamiliar with the details of the church's protocols.

USC and fiance from Kuwait - wait till you get to the US before you go near an Armenian church. :)

Thank you both for your responses. I will say that based on the responses I received days before our engagement, I did realize that I did not want to do something that could mess this process up or be misconstrued. I think someone said earlier that you are not in a "normal" relationship and we are being evaluated so as I previously stated I would discuss it with my fiance and I wanted to follow the laws and terms to obtain the K-1 visa. We decided to cancel the priest. I was happy I found this website when I did and now I look at it daily to see if anything relates to me as I go through the process.
vosnmarsFemaleKuwait2012-03-03 15:29:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow can a K-1 misrepresentation denial be overturned?

From a cursory glance at eastern orthodox marriage traditions, blessing of the rings is a part of the betrothal part of a marriage ceremony. In some places, a betrothal is a legal relationship very similar to a marriage. Since you are not familiar with the tradition, you could easily be getting married and your fiance could just tell you it's "just an engagement" when no such thing exists in the tradition. Betrothal is not the same as engagement.

When you say "they have ways of doing things and we are going to follow it" it sounds like you are getting tricked into getting married. Saying "engagement" all over a wedding or betrothal ceremony does not make it different. It's nice to be respectful, but you need to follow the terms of the K-1 visa and the laws of the US. If it is important to have an eastern orthodox wedding, then maybe you should just get married abroad.

I understand what you mean regarding blessing of the rings and it is important to hear other view points on a subject matter. However, everything will be conducted in English and although I am not intimately familiar with all the practices, I have looked into it and it does exist so there is no just telling me or trickery. I realize the part that makes this complicated is the priest and how it could be misconstrued. We will follow all the laws and terms of the K-1 visa. I will discuss it further with my fiance.

Also, I am sorry, but I do not agree with your statement that if it is important to us to have that type of wedding, then we should get married abroad. We can do it just the same right here in Houston, Texas at the Armenian Orthodox Church.

Thank you for your responses and your time.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow can a K-1 misrepresentation denial be overturned?

Blessing rings is a part of the marriage ceremony. Will the priest think you are married? This does not sound like a good idea.

Thank you for your response and I understand what you mean. I am Catholic and he is Armenian Orthodox so we are doing things very different from what I know. The priest is aware that this is an engagement and he has to certify that we are engaged, so there is no confusion about what he is doing. He is coming to the restaurant for the dinner/party. Also I believe the rings are blessed because they will also be our wedding rings. For the engagement we both wear them on the right hand and at the wedding ceremony we then move it to the left. There is no other option because they have ways of doing things and we are going to follow it. Certainly, we will make sure everything says engagement such as our invitations, cake, banners, photos, newspaper ads, etc. I hope that will be sufficient for K-1 purposes because I wouldn't want to completely disrespect my future family.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow can a K-1 misrepresentation denial be overturned?
This is my first post to this forum. I am so glad I joined and read this discussion. We are having an official engagement party next week and we will have an Armenian Orthodox priest attend to bless our rings and offer prayers. Reading the comments made me realize I need to be more aware of what we do so nothing is misinterpreted. Our invitations say engagement party and I just confirmed the writing on the cake will say "engagement of" and not just our names, so it doesn't look like anything else especially since a priest will be there.

Sorry this is a bit off topic from the discussion and not a response to the original question, but I am truly thankful to see this in time to make any corrections to my own party and hopefully not experience any complications with our K-1 process. Thank you.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAfter the NOA2, what specific papers does my fiance have to get ready? And should I send the Affidavit of Support now?

Just received my NOA2 last week.

I was checking out the FAQ and saw the US Embassy in Islamabad, Pakistan will be sending my fiance a package and information and an interview date. Are all the papers she will have to fill out in that package, or will I have to send her some? Do I only have to send her an affidavit of support? Can I send that right now, since I have to mail her the original?

And what type of medical exam will she have to go through? Can she do that today? I'm just trying to have everything ready for the date of the interview. I want to call the US Embassy in Islamabad in a couple of days and ask when can we expect the interview to take place. Is that a good idea? Or should I just wait for them to notify my fiance through the mail?

I would appreciate any help. The NOA2 didn't offer anything in terms of what papers to have ready.

Thanks

I am responding since you have not received an answer yet. You can look at the top of the page where it says, "Embassy Info" and look at what the general process is for your Embassy. Here is the link

It looks like it answers most of your questions. After looking at that, you also might want to try asking for help in the regional forum so you can get more specific help at this stage of the process. You might get better answers that way.

As a side note, look at the top of the page where it says "Reviews: Embassy..." and have a look over members reviews. Sometimes things are mentioned there that are helpful to know. Here is the link

Good luck

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-94? What is it? And when is it needed?

I can only comment on Houston - it did seem a little quicker than previous two international flights I took earlier this year into Houston...

The line kept moving - didn't really stop from what I can remember.

This was around 5pm on a Sunday - which going by the records/history on CBP site, is a peak time for Houston (IAH)

That's why I picked Monday for my wife's POE :)

See https://help.cbp.gov...sue-paper-i-94? for further info regarding the electronic processing.

It is only for air/sea travelers, where they can leverage the advanced info they request and scanning your passport also.

Apparently you can still get a I-94 later - from a specific website listed on the page below:

http://cbp.gov/xp/cg...i94_rollout.xml

Good luck to all who POE - as I will tell my wife (I will be there with her for as far as they let me) - smile, say good afternoon and be confident - all else will be good.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow much time for Immigration? (PoE)

of course, it does depend on which airport in NY you will be POE through... there are several.

JFK seems to be the busiest - look at the POE reviews here on VJ - i think i saw that one person spent about 3 to 4 hours in all - so i think 4 hours should be OK , but you never know how customs might treat you - and of course if thats not your final destination, you will have re-check your bags too.

good luck! something i have noticed with flights from UK - sometimes its been cheaper to get a return flight instead of a one-way! when i have done that in the past, i have either put a date for the return that i know i will want or i put it 330 days out smile.png and then either i get to use it or i change the date to suit smile.png

EDIt:

sealed envelope - your case file in its entirety - basically they are using YOU as the mule to take the case back to the US :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVisa ISSUED on the website!!! How long for DHL to arrive?

to the OP:

While Philly is not going to be AS busy as NY for immigration or as a general rule as an airport, you should also consider just the sheer logistics of as some have said above, missing you connection flight due to a late international flight arrival, or a lengthier than normal immigration process (never mind that your are actually going to POE!), or that you will need to process your luggage too... As these will be your first port of entry for customs, you will have no choice but to retrieve your luggage and go through the customs line too... that can take time, then you will likely be submitting your luggage again - again more time, and then going to your gate... remember you need to be at your gate with time to spare - the gate will close ahead of the actual time.

I suggest you find a way to get atleast 3 hours of layover time....will be worth your peace of mind - trust me.

Edit:

Oh...and regards your other question - allow 2 to 3 weeks to receive a passport/visa and other paperwork. That may not be what you want to hear- but it could take that long.

You should not make flight plans until you have your visa in hand and have checked it for correctness :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAttorney vs. filing yourself
QUOTE (Maldez @ Oct 25 2008, 11:16 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi - I'm very interested in knowing the difficulty factor of filing a K-1 visa application on your own, vs. paying money to an attorney.

I just paid a lot of money, $1,750, to a big law firm (Michael S. Solomon) that specializes only in the filing of K-1 and K-3 visas, but am starting to wonder if I made a mistake.

It's been a month since I sent the money in and filled out their application. Since then they don't return my phone calls or e-mails. They haven't contacted me once for any sort of information, documents, photos or anything since the initial questionnaire that we completed.

I'm thinking of asking for my money back and filing myself. Is this a mistake?

Thank you!

IMO, the difficulty level is not as complicated as doing your own taxes (for those who itemize), but there is more to it so there is lots of paperwork, don't let that intimidate you. Just read the guides and you will be fine. To be on the safe side, make sure to send extra evidence to keep from getting an RFE. When they gave me a choice between 2 documents, I sent both (not required).
You will be collecting documents, photos and receipts and making copies either way, the difference is the lawyer will assemble the package and tell you where to sign when he gets around to it. Do it yourself and get them here faster.

So it has been 4 days since I mailed out my I-129F and I know that it's normal to freak out but seriously I have no patience. I just want to know if USCIS received it. I have no update on my tracking information on USPS website. I have called customer service and no help from them. I did FIrst class mail, certified with a return receipt. WAs it a mistake to do it first class mail? SHould I have done express, priority or maybe FedEX? I seriously was just crying like 10 mins ago thinking that its lost somewhere and USCIS never received it. There is no tracking update at all on my pcakge. All there is that it was accepted at the location i dropped the package off. Is it normal to take this long to receive something? I read taht a lot of people got their NOA in like 4-5 days and here I am and my package hasn't even reached Vermont. Really frustrated and upset. I am sorry for people reading this an thinking its a waste of time to even read this post. Once again my apologies.

dont worry they will recieve it. me and my wife sent it first class mail and it took a couple of days to show up on the usps tracking. so dont worry they will recieve it.

Thank you all very much for your sweet and really awesome support. I know its a long journey as everyone on here has experienced or is experiencing it. I am praying for the best. I just checked USPS website and no update as of yet. I guess they aren't very reliable when it comes to updating. But I am praying and gonna look into checking if my cashiers check has been paid out or not. I really appreciate everyone for their kind words. AS soon as i get my NOA 1 believe after my fiance it will be VJ that will be getting the good news. as we say in Arabic INSHALLAH (IN Gods Will).. that they have gotten it and it I will be getting good news any day now.

I don't think any of us can predict the USPS for you. I did notice when I sent my last package to them in August, there were no updates at all on the website until it'd actually been delivered. A lot of folks do priority but there's no way you HAVE to send it. You just have to take whatever waiting times come with the class you chose. Priority and overnight are faster than first, but first still isn't slow.

It also depends on where you are and where you're mailing it to (looks like Vermont - but from where?). You've sent it certified so I sincerely doubt it's lost.

Worst case scenario, if they don't get it, resend it (I presume you made an exact copy of what you sent, as this website suggests?).

ETA: if you have no patience, this process will absolutely be the death of you. So finding some patience is probably a good idea...!

I sent it from Houston, TX. I dunno why its taking forever. I have no problem with patience. Me and my fiance have been apart for the past 5 and a half years. So I think the eagerness of seeing each other is whats cuasing this impatientness. I am just worried if the USCIS received it or not. I dont mind resending the package all over again but that also means that my cashiers check is gone right?

Do you mean you haven't seen your fiance in 5 1/2 years? If so, that's going to be a problem. If not, ignore this.

I met him for 9 days in July when we got engaged.. we saw each other after 5 and a haf yeras.. so i had enough proof that we did see each other.. and we have on going relationship... so i hope that isnt a problem them right?

So i sent in my packet on Tues October 13th, 2009. According to the tracking info from USPS they received it on Saturday October 17th. Am I just being paranoid or does it take this long? I mean i guess cuz im going by peoples timelines an seen that they have received theirs in like 5 days or even less. I totally know this is a whole patience thing and I am down for it but I guess I am like if NOA is taking 8 days or something I wonder how long NOA2 will take and that wait will be total torture. HOw long did some of you guys get your NOA?

Ok I am confused. If you haven't received your hard copy of your NOA yet then how do you know it was touched. Ok please help me. I am really reeally confused. Becuase i see on some peoples timelines that they put the NOA date then a different date that NOA hard copy received. an then before that touched? please help me.. i am so confused

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So NVC sent our case to the Riyadh Consulate. since my fiance has a bad mailing address they had kept the package at the consulate. My fiance called them today and they told him that there is no such thing as packet 3 and packet 4. They have a K-1 packet that he needs to get by sending a Fedex airbill and they will mail it to him at his work. What i am confused about is the packet 3 and 4. I also need to send him my stuff. If I meet the poverty guidelines, lets say it is 14,000 something and I made 16,000 is that ok or do i still need a co sponsor? and do i need to send them bank statements? anybody have an example of an employer letter that i can use as an example. Please help me cuz we want to get this stuff sorted as soon as possible. The consulate told him that as of now they have no pending cases and since my fiance lives in Jeddah and not Riyadh it will be difficult to keep making trips back an forth. Please help... Please!.. i am so desperate.. please!
