After receiving the visa and going to the bridge, do they have to cross over? Or do they just get the stamp and can go back to their house for their things and cross say in Laredo?

My understanding is that you don't need to stamp anything right after you get your K-1 visa, once you get it you have 6 months to cross at any POE you want and only then your visa and the DO NOT OPEN yellow envelope (that came with your visa) will be stamped.

star_smile.gif

That is my understanding too. We hope that Roberto gets the visa by the end of this week but he will not come to the US for several more weeks. So he is not going to the bridge.
Genny

It is my understanding as well. You should only get your visa stamped if you are READY to use your visa. If you do not plan on use your visa right away then the bridge information does not pertain to you. Once we receive ours (hopefully soon) we will go back to his hometown for a week and then enter through Laredo. Hope this helps

Hello Everyone:

We are supposed to call for our new appt in January, does anyone know how long of a backup there is for the Fiance Visa when you are returning after a 3 year ban? If not, is there any way to find out this information?

Thanks,
J&E

Janet, I am sorry I really don't have an answer for you. Most k-1's are taking about 4-5 weeks to get processed at Juarez. I remember reading your story. I am so sorry and I wish you the best of luck.

Alright,

Who is still waiting for Packet 3? or for Ciudad Juarez to finish processing?

We are still waiting for the famous "processing"

Thanks,

Ernesto

I also called NVC and they informed me that Ciudad Juarez has the electronic copy, but have not received the "paper copy"?!!!! wacko.gif

Does anyone know how that works? CJ tells me one thing(that they are processing our case) and NVC tells me the above. Please help....

Thanks,

Ernesto

Ernesto,
I am still waiting for Juarez to process my packet as well. I figured 4-5 weeks should be plenty of time before I start bugging them. I read this has happened to many people NVC says one thing and Juarez says another. Try to be patient and you will receive your notice soon. Maybe we will end up in Juarez during the same time.

Genny,
GOOD LUCK. You and Roberto are in my prayers. Keep us updated.

Congrats epifreak!!!!

After all that stress before and during the interview and finally being approved I got back to the hotel to take a nap. When I woke up it was around 2 and I checked the DHL website and to my surprise the VISA was ready and waiting for me. I just got back from going and picking it up. I'm just so surprised about how lightning fast the interview and getting the visa was. The medical was another story but whatever it's done.

To answer some of the recent questions.
They are still not using the DS-160.
They did ask me for the DS-157.
At the clinic you can pay with pesos or dollars for the medical exam.
For the visa fee at the bank you have to use pesos.

Regarding the questions about the interview. It's pretty much what everyone have posted. In my case it was very fast. I think it was that fast because we sent a huge I-129F that the interviewer was reviewing. The only thing extra he asked were pictures. That was my case, either way come prepared with lots of things.

Cheers everyone and good luck!

Here someone who went in May was asked for the DS-157.

Whew, thanks Andrea,
Roberto and I just filled it out over Skype. Recently all of our dates are over immigration forms. How romantic smile.gif

Hey guys, this is what they asked of alfredo, i will be posting alfredo's experience soon.

I know have the folder i gave alfredo to take with him to mexico. This is a list of all the stuff that was required.

1) Alfredo's invitation letter
2) My I-134, along with my moms and my step dads
3) DS-156 filled out, NOT SIGNED (2 copies)
4) DS-156K filled out, NOT SIGNED (2 copies)
5) DS-157 filled out, (2 copies)
6) CDJ-402 filled out, NOT SIGNED (2 copies)
7) Alfredo's passport pictures

8) Proof of relationship
consisting of 57 pictures, a used calling card, the original of a envelope alfredo sent me stuff in, my E-ticket, a copy of alfredo's truck insurance bill with his address on it (to establish he lives with my parents), 3 rent receipts (showing he lives with my parents), and a copy of my check that i used to help him pay for his insurance, a letter from his mother in mexico (saying that she has met me, and likes me, and that I'm a good woman, and thinks i would make a good wife for alfredo)
9) Alfredo's birth certificate, original AND copy
10) I-797C Notice of action (Original AND copy)
11) My intent to marry letter (2 copies)
12) Alfredo's passport
13) Alfredo's police report
14) Banomex receipt

Of all the stuff that was 'required', they only took (or wanted to see) the bolded and highlighted stuff. They didnt even want to see the rest of the stuff that we had, They DID look at our proof of relationship, which is something that in previous fiance cases i hadn't heard of, but they did with us.

Also, alfredo was number 5,110 just for the fiance visa section, b/c there are different sections in the new consulate where people applying for different visas have to go, well just from the fiance visa, there were that many people there, that might be why it took him 12 hours to actually get his visa.

They did not want to even look at alfredo's letters from his jobs here, saying that he has worked here, and how much money he makes , and they didnt want my parents I-134s even though i dont make enough money to support alfredo by myself, they didnt seem to care, they lookd at the paper and said it was fine.

Chinman I know, but it applies to K-1 as well. You don't need the DS230 it's not used at Juarez.

I posted this so you could see what a previous VJer took to Juarez and what was actually asked of them. When I read through this thread everyone with a male SO took the DS-157 and nobody recently has used the DS230. Hope this helps. I used this list and various other list to help me compile my check list.

I was looking at the consulate information here and it says that you need to have the DS-157 file, even though it's not listed on the website. Can anyone verify that?

You don't need it.
Supplement DS-157 for all males between the ages of 16 and 45.

Andrea,
But do Roberto and I need that one? We didn't fill it out yet Roberto is between those ages. I didn't see that on the list before sad.gif

Yes, you do need it. I found this out by reading through the thread because it is not on the list of required forms. I was trying to find the form on the Juarez Consulate website and this is what I found regarding the DS-157 as a requirement. http://ciudadjuarez....enapplreqs.html

I also found this on the DOS website

Supplemental Nonimmigrant Visa Application, Form DS-157 completed for all male nonimmigrant visa applicants between the ages of 16 and 45, regardless of nationality and regardless of where they apply. It is also required for all applicants from state sponsors of terrorism age 16 and over, irrespective of gender, without exception. Four countries are now designated as state sponsors of terrorism, including Cuba, Syria, Sudan, and Iran. Select Special Processing Procedures to learn more. This form provides additional information about your travel plans. You should know that a consular officer may require any nonimmigrant visa applicant to complete Form DS-157.

Hope this helps

Sandi,
We decided to take the bus that way we could leave Juarez as soon as we get the visa. I am leaving to Mexico on the 7th and we plan on going to Juarez on the 16th. I am driving down there to pick up the rest of my stuff, my SO and my dog. In March I moved down there with him so we could be together while I took a little break from school. I am hoping to get the green light from Juarez in October, but you never know. We decided to just take the bus because of the uncertainly and I have never traveled on one so I said what the heck I'll try it.

Although I have a feeling that if I don't like the bus then I will be returning to Queretaro by plane LOL...

No we DON'T NEED the vaccines since we are all doing K-1. I found some information on page 208 regarding this and I know Kitkat addresses this at the very beginning of this thread somewhere.

Chinman,
Your fiancee will need to get the HPV vaccine, so far from what I have read it is required for women under the age of 26. I am not sure of her age, but if she is older you don't have to worry about this. Check out page 171 look at user name Nm123 and Tglea on page 202 they both address this issue.

I hope this helps. We will not be getting vaccines done there even if the nurses are pushy.

Thanks! Trying to coordinate the time off at work. Ideally, the week of 18th of October, but I don't think that will happen. We are looking at the first week of November. I know the consulate will be closed that first Monday, but I think it will be okay.

You might see Chinman in Juarez if you go the 18th that would be great to have that support and actually know someone so you won't drive yourself crazy. Have you decided if you are going to do Monday/Tuesday or do you have other days picked out for the medical and interview.

Has anyone heard about the consulate closing on Wednesdays? I know I read somewhere on this thread that they have been closing on some Wednesdays for administrative work.

Genny,
Thanks we are still considering if we are going to fly. One quick question. My SO has an uncle over here who is willing to offer him a job once he is able to work and I was considering getting him to write him an offer letter, but I don't want the CO to think he is going to work illegally. Do you guys think it is a good idea to include this letter? I just don't want them to get the wrong idea.

Andrea

I had my mother write an offer of employment letter and my fiance took it to the interview. We included documents that proved she did in fact have a business. In the letter, which I wrote, it stated that the employment offer was based on the fact that she would need to have legal status to work before the employment would begin. At her interview, she said the officer didn't really look at it and instead just looked over the I-134 a few times. So I would say that if you have plenty of income to show on your 134 and/or a strong co-sponsor, it's probably not going to make much difference and could possibly just raise a red flag if you don't have proof that the person writing the letter does in fact have a successful business that could employ your fiance.

Tglea,
Thanks for the advice. I have some more questions did you use copies of tax returns or tax transcripts? I have read on here that tax transcripts are better. I will be using a co-sponsor because I am still a student and I haven't worked this year so I was going to get from my co-sponsor their tax transcripts, pay stubs, and letter from employer, is this good enough.

Thanks for the help. Sorry if I have been asking too many questions.

Andrea
I didn't attach any tax info to my 134 because I was/had been living in Mexico for almost 3 years. What you have to do is attach a letter explaining why you didn't file and cite the the IRS filing requirements didn't require you to file if you didn't file in 2008. I will look for that info and web address. My co-sponsor just submitted a copy of her 2008 return, W2 and a letter from her employer stating how much she earns and how long she has been with the company. I know that most people think it's necessary to have info from the last three years but it's not a requirement for the 134, you only need the latest years info. You will have to decide if you think you should just use 2008 only or 06 and 07 as well. In my case, my cosponsor was very strong financially with no dependents and had been working at the same place for the last 15 years. I think if your co-sponsor has a good level of income and has been at the same job for a good while, then you should only need the 08 info.

Tglea,
Thank you SOOOO much for the help. I will start researching this info as well. I am still trying to decide if I will use my sister or my mother. My sister has had the same job for about 4 years and has 3 dependents, but meets the 125% guide which would include a house hold count of (5 including SO). Would we have to include myself if we are going to be living with her until we can get our own place, this is the address we used on all forms? My mother has been self-employed for about 20 years now and meets 125%, I am just trying to decide who is the better pick her house hold count would only include her and my SO.

Andrea

PS. again sorry for all the questions.

Really, you have to decide who you think makes the stronger case as a co-sponsor. If your sister just barely meets the requirements but your mother is well beyond the requirements, then you should go with her. But I think I would definitely include the last three years of tax info if using someone who is self-employed. I think it's important to them(visa officers) that anyone who is a sponsor can show consistency in their work history and income earned. As far as including yourself in your sisters house hold count, i'm not sure. I think the 134 only asks for people who are your dependents. I interpret that to mean people that you actually claim for tax purposes. So unless she does in fact support you financially, then I don't think you should count yourself. The I-134 is really fairly simple as compared to the I-864(which you will have to do when you adjust status in the US) I know that form asks for household size but for the I-134 she would just list probably just her children as her dependents.

Thanks for the response. Well my sister doesn't just barley meet the requirement so that is why I am considering her. The reason why I didn't want to use my mom was because she just go a divorce and her past tax returns would have my ex step-dads info on it so I wasn't sure if it would complicate the matter. The divorce is final, but her 2008 taxes they filed together so I don't know how that would effect the situation.

Genny,
Thanks we are still considering if we are going to fly.

Isi,

We went ahead and made plans before we got the letter. We know that they mailed the letter and packet 3 to us from Juarez on Sept 18th. We are going to arrive in Juarez on the 14th of October. The Consulate will be closed that day but Roberto hopes to get the medical done on that day. I would like some more help if you or anyone else can offer it on taxis from El Paso to the Holiday Inn Las Misiones. I know you said that there might be some taxis that will take you to the embassy for free of you have an appointment. I am looking for all taxi options to and from the airport in El Paso. I loved the pics you took from your Holiday Inn window (that sold us, Roberto made the reservation right after that). Roberto flies to Juarez but I fly to El Paso by myself and get there at night so I want a safe but affordable option and I want to be able to plan ahead. If you or anyone else that has been can offer some help then I'd really appreciate it.

Let me know.

Hi there,
Glad the pics helped you ... good.gif
Well ... taking about the taxis what I heard over there is that from and to El paso is 80 usd each and free ones are if you arrive to Juarez airport so your bf might save some there.
Did you check prices for you flying straight to Juarez?
I saw some cheap taxis also but ... I don't know call me crazy but did not trust them at all maybe because I'm from "the jungle" (Mexico City) and being there alone you must be careful.
In the hotel get some taxis for you but not less than 60 usd ... unfortunately that is a very good business there and they take advantage.
Let me check other web sites and let you know
star_smile.gif

I know, going there alone has me a bit worried, especially since I'm arriving at night. The difference in price is tremendous though. To fly to El Paso will cost about $400.00 and to fly to Juarez the lowest price I have found is $854.00. I would much rather fly to Juarez but the price difference is too much. So I have to find the best price possible and the safest taxis. I am only going to be in Juarez for three days. I have to go back to work but Roberto will stay until everything is done. Thanks for helping.
Genny

Genny,
Is Roberto flying? and if so from where? and which airline did you use?

You have to give us a full report when you go.

Ok guys, I need some advice. Juarez received my paper work on September 22 and I figured with hope we should hear something in a month. I want to buy a plane ticket because the sooner I purchase it the cheaper it will be. I was considering buying the tickets for the week of November 16th about a 1 1/2 from when Juarez received my paper work. Do you guys think this is tooooo risky.

Oh and another question are you guys using the I-134 form when you go to Juarez? Please any help would be appreciated.

I got news from Juarez almost month and half after they received my papers ... I would recommend to get your tickets at the end of November-December ... my opinion.

I-134 form is a MUST, your visa will be denied if you don't bring that with you ... is a nightmare everytime you call to Juarez you have different stories, when I called the first time guy told me I-134 was not necessary until AOS ... NOT TRUE ... furtunately my bf sent it to me before and was the first form Consul requested.

Thanks for the advice! I know on the Juarez website it only gives you documents you can present for financial support so that is why I didn't think it was necessary, but I still wanted to take it because I hear it makes organizing everything easier. Did you actually wait for the invitation letter? I more then likely will not wait for the actually invitation letter (hard copy). As long as I get the green light (invitation has been sent) I am going to go to Juarez.

When will you be going to Juarez? I was thinking about booking one way tickets as well that way I wouldn't have to worry about changing flights.

Okay so first off I just need to vent because I am nearly in tears today. about ready to break down. I am just sick of calling and getting different answers all of the time. I called Juarez earlier in the week and they told me that they received all of the paperwork and to call first part of October. When I called the NVC today they told me that Juarez hasn't received anything. STOP SCREWING WITH ME!!!!! That's how I feel right now and I appologize for releasing here, but I know that you all understand. URRGGG this is going to be a long and depressing weekend.

I know how frustrating this process can be especially when you keep hearing different stories. I am sure Juarez has your packet and will start processing it soon. I am giving my self a month before I start freaking out. I just told myself that from the beginning. I am sure here soon you will call and they will have sent you the invitation letter. Just hang in there.

OK, so now I'm super excited while trying not to be excited. I called the NVC (202-663-1225) and the lady (who was very friendly) said our packet 3 had been sent out by regular mail within the last day or two!!!

I told her the Juarez embassy just last night told me to call back in 3 weeks. Her reply was "that's why you call us and not them".

I SURE HOPE SHE'S RIGHT!!!!! AND I HOPE THE MAIL SERVICE DOESN'T SCREW ANYTHING UP!!!!!

Great NEWS!!! So how long did it take from the time Juarez received your packet to get the green light?

I guess it is just taking time to get through the processing down there. Mine was received on August 31st and haven't heard anything. Genny has been waiting over a month...nada. I have read that it is taking somewhere between 6-8 weeks.

Thanks!

I thought the long months of waiting were over after we received our I-129 approval. I have a question regarding the financial support documents. Do we use the I-824 to make things easier?

Hola,
I just received the NOA2 and now I trying to figure out what is next. I honestly didn't expect to receive the NOA2 until late October early November, so I am not as prepared as I would like to be. My fiance is the beneficiary so we are trying to get his stuff together. I have a few questions on the Juarez website there is a K visa information packet and it says you don't need an I-864. I will be using a cosponsor because I have been in Mexico for the past seven months so should I still take an I-864 for me and my cosponsor. Also, how long before Juarez receives my packet. This is all so much I am trying to remember all I have read, but it isn't coming to me. Any help would be appreciated.

US Citizenship General DiscussionName Change?

I have a question about a name change.  If you have your name changed during the Naturalization process do you need to change everything in your home country?  If you do, will they take the Naturalization document as legal proof?

Thanks

My husband passed his interview TODAY!!!kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif

Oath ceremony this coming Tuesday.

The whole thing took about an hour from when we walked in to when we walked out.

He said they asked him 7 civics questions and then had him write "we pay taxes."

He said it was very short and easy, but they took awhile because they were discussing his name.  He wants to change his name, but they told him that process would take months.  So, he ended up just doing what would be faster and that was keeping his name.  sad.png

Oh well, we are just glad it's done with and his oath ceremony is very soon.

This is a typical standard yellow letter and there is nothing to worry about. I received the same yellow letter two weeks prior to my interview on Dec. 10 and the officer did check my driver's license during the interview.

THANK YOU!!! I was freaking out

My husband never received notice that he was in line for the interview.  When we checked his online case status it said on November 11 he was placed in line for an interview.  Then this week we received a yellow notice that states Pre-Interview Case File Review.  It goes on to state USCIS recommends you bring the following documents to your interview:

  • Bring your state-issued driver's license or state issued photo identification card

Does anyone know if this is a BAD thing?  I'm a little worried.  sad.pngsad.pngsad.pngsad.png
