The other reason they're so busy, it's 'cus there was a huge increase in tourist visa applications in Rio, so they're swamped with work down there.

The immigration department has nothing to do with the non-immigrant visas.

Pri, try to make your fiance call or/and email them... They always answered Marc quickest than me on the e-mails... And to call them, you need to wait on the line... Nothing to do about it...

Carol, tenho certeza sim, quando fazia UFRJ eu sempre estudava na Biblioteca Nacional, em frente a Cinelândia, já fui no Municipal vária vezes, já fui na Justiça Federal que fica na esquina da rua de pedreste ao lado da Biblioteca Municipal, que é na esquina da rua do prédio do consultório do Dr. Joaquim, que é exatamente em frente ao consulado. A entrada do consulado pra entrevista é de frente pra entrada do prédio do Dr. Joaquim, na rua México, que é a paralela a Rio Branco, eu conheço o centro do Rio de cor, e estive lá anteontem. :P

I am positive, Carol, the building of the consulate is the one I marked in red, it even has that lower end on the corner that has only one floor instead of two. It's not a very tall building and all, I've been there a bunch of times. ;)

Funny because I was sure the building was alone in the block (well, I had that impression) and it was the reason I marked that one, but I stay with you because that building was the one that I thought too.
Looking right now makes sense because it was a skinny street, not the large avenue. And there's lots of cabs (taxis in Rio are yellow) bringing the gringos to the Consulate... LOL :P :lol:

Funny, I never noticed how that square in Cinelândia had a perfect circle in the middle. :P

Carol, I think you highlighted the wrong building, the consulate doesn't face the Aterro, or does it?

I checked the map carefully. The consulate building is actually the one exactly north of the marked in red. It's the smaller building in the street behind the big square building with a courtyard in the middle. ;)

Actually, the entry of the building doesn't face the Aterro or the sides (Its behind). It took me a long time to be sure but Im not yet...
Laura, why don't you go over there and take a look to see if Im sure??? I really would like to know... All I had was my memories about the building and surrondings and one thing I was sure was that the building was alone in one block, so I think its the one I marked...

nessa and i had our interview on 2 oct, this past monday. we were interviewed by pamela (who i thought was mentioned to be a blonde but when nessa and i got there she had black hair! :unsure: ) maybe she read the previous posts on rio consulate interviews and was trying to fool us :lol:

nessa and i arrived early, about 0715 and it did make a difference in that the first ones in could get the numbered ticket, meaning you'd be called sooner to turn in your documents. nessa and i were the 2nd ones in to do that, and the 4th ones called in for the interview. the ones who were first to get a numbered ticket and first to turn in their papers were called 2nd, so nessa and i took that to mean it does make a difference if you are there first.

nessa was asked only one question:
- if her parents would attend our wedding.

i was asked more questions than nessa::ranting:
- how did we meet
- how many times i'd been to brazil (i thought it was a trick question as it was my second trip)
- if i prefered the interview was in english or portuguese (i said english as i'm the vice president of the "my portuguese sucks" club)

we were finished in 8 minutes, and told to come back after 1500 on wednesday (that's 3 pm for you civilians :P )

CONGRATS! you two. Charles, when they ask you how many times you have been to Brazil? you should have said well madam if you would have looked in my m#######n passport you would know jk! as far as nessa's parent coming you shoul have said, huuhhhhh Thats up to whether your gonna let them!

I've found the law from Brazil... I dont think we will have problems with Dual citizenship...

Com a aprovação da emenda constitucional 03/94, a Constituição brasileira passou a dispor no seu artigo 12, parágrafo quarto, inciso II, que:

"Será declarada a perda de nacionalidade do brasileiro que:

II - Adquirir outra nacionalidade, salvo nos casos:

a) de reconhecimento de nacionalidade originária pela lei estrangeira;

B) de imposição de naturalização, pela norma estrangeira, ao brasileiro, em Estados estrangeiros, como condição para permanência em seu território ou para o exercício de direitos civis."

Segundo o Despacho número 172 do Ministério da Justiça, de 4 de agosto de 1995, a interpretação a ser dada a essa norma constitucional é a de que:

a) no caso da alínea (a) transcrita acima - reconhecimento de nacionalidade originária -, "não perde a nacionalidade o brasileiro que teve reconhecida outra nacionalidade por Estado estrangeiro, quando a mesma decorre do direito de sangue (jus sanguinis), sendo originariamente adquirida. Aqui o simples vínculo sanguíneo é que faz surgir a nacionalidade, independente do local de nascimento. É, v.g., o caso da Itália que reconhece aos descendentes de seus nacionais a cidadania italiana. Muitos brasileiros descendentes de italianos vêm obtendo aquela nacionalidade, através do simples processo administrativo. Nesta hipótese, não há aquisição derivada de nacionalidade estrangeira, mas reconhecimento de nacionalidade originária, independente de renúncia ou opção pela nacionalidade anterior. Neste caso, não perderão a nacionalidade brasileira os que se utilizarem de tal benefício";

B) no caso da alínea (B) - imposição de naturalização por Estado estrangeiro -, é preservada "a nacionalidade brasileira daquele que, por motivos de trabalho, acesso aos serviços públicos, fixação de residência, etc., praticamente se vê obrigado a adquirir a nacionalidade estrangeira, mas que, na realidade, jamais teve a intenção ou a vontade de abdicar da cidadania originária. ... A perda só deve ocorrer nos casos em que a vontade do indivíduo é de efetivamente mudar de nacionalidade, expressamente demonstrada."

Os requerimentos de reaquisição de nacionalidade brasileira devem conter: (a) os motivos de aquisição da nacionalidade estrangeira, (B) compromisso de cumprimento dos deveres inerentes aos nacionais e © cópias de um ou mais documentos pessoais (carteira de identidade, passaporte, ou qualquer outro documento do qual constem o nome, filiação, local e data de nascimento do interessado).

As long as the list is updated thw rest(like the rich text edit) is detail and it is for people who have no other job to do.


Format is easily fixed, the problem is when people reply to out of date lists, then we loose peoples entries. For example, if you look a few posts back you will see how bulanglang replied to the initial posting from James dated back in June. If no one cleaned it up we loose more then three months of entries including yours.

I called uscis and they told me that they didnt know squat,so i called nvc they said it obviously was a mistake,so i hate to think they typed in the wrong receipt number and its for someone else, that wont get the e-mail it looka like someone got put in AR but might not know. Carol and I are waiting to see if we get something in the mail. Also the lady at NVC said that they didnt send USCIS anything geeeeez this could be a mess for someone!

I just called USCIS and they don't have idea what this email means... The lady told me to hold the call to transfer to another customer representative that may help me, but the call just died after 10 min waiting... :(

As you can see in my post, we just received the same email yesterday (Jan 31st) and my port of entry was Newark too on Jan 19th... We called them (USCIS and NVC) but they don't know anything about... I'm worried if this will cause some trouble with AOS or anything... :unsure:

It's good to hear from you again! So how's life in the states? I don't think I'm ready to leave Brazil....especially before the World Cup! She just needs to ask the consulate's doctor for the tests and then do it in Foz do Iguacu... All the doctors are very friendly and willing to help.
But basicly, the tests are for HIV I and II, Sifilis and Varicela (in case she lost her vaccinations sheet from childhood). After december 2005, the doctors are making the gonorrea examination too (gynecologist exam), and the consulate doctor can do it by the time of the consultation with all the other stuff (eg: measure blood pressure, weight, etc...).

The day I had my interview, the CO said to me to come back on the NEXT day to get my passport, so it depends on the day, I guess...

Like Lisz said, the hotel I stayed in was R$75 (US$35) with breakfast and was very good... I don't really think its worth to stay to wait for the passport... They charge you around R$50-70 to send it by courier (which takes 2 days to receive it).

I'm not sure, but I think they will mail his passport to his address, I can't remember... But I think there's the option (when filling the papers for the courier service) of address to send it, so, just ask to the lady in the window and I think she will let you do it...
