thanx FABIAN,

1-Is it compulsory to bring co-sponsor tax returns and basic information filled in i 864 in interview?

2-Secondly, the mail i have received of case completion  has a subject of ISLXXXXXXX (checklist), but it is stated that "we have finished  your case and we will send you interview date, do not contact with US embassy in pakistan"....so my  question is that everyone who receive the the case completion mail has the same subject of mail and everyone has to bring co-sponsor tax returns and basic information in interview with him/her ? please advice..

thanx in advance

Hello usman,

What tax documents did you submit for yourself and your co-sponsors? Actual tax returns or IRS transcripts? Only asking because some members who recently had their interviews reported that CO's were asking for 2013 transcripts, even though petitioners submitted full tax returns.

Unfortunately I do not have my CC letter handy, so I cannot verify if I also received that same message, or if it's specific to Pakistan. You could call NVC and ask them to explain further.

Good luck!

CASE COMPLETE!! as of yesterday... :joy:  :) .. AOS checklist was scanned on may 16

Nice, another May 16th! Congratulations!!

Great news!!  We got a case complete.  May 19th for us.  We are so excited!! :goofy:    :goofy:

Awesome news! Congrats to you too!!  :joy:  :joy:

I just joined Visa Journey as a member and I have been reading lot of posts here and preparing my visa documents based on the discussion coupled with NVC site information. Thanks everybody for the informations posted. I am late comer though. My status is in AOS review status for both my beloved wife and step daughter and waiting for DS-261 review to be completed. Married close to one year ago. Since it is vacation for the kids, we decided to go to the foreign country to join my wife and step daughter. But stil waiting patiently for IV invoice and further steps to cross in the journey.

That is all the intro. Now the question. is there anything need to considered special for the step daughter visa? Anybody has gone through the visa journey by lanes of both spouse and step daughter visa processing?

My wish and prayers are with you all.

Welcome to the forum nvc4all!

Nothing is really much different for your stepdaughter's case. Remember that you will have to submit separate stand-alone AOS and IV packets for each your wife and daughter. Depending on how old your daughter is, she might not need police certificates. Read the Country Reciprocity page in DOS's website for more details. Also, don't forget to read Saylin's NVC wiki page.

I almost forgot! Unless there are other specific rules for your embassy or foreign country, you will also need a consent letter from the biological father in which he authorizes your stepdaughter to apply for an immigrant visa (if she is a minor). You will need this letter for the embassy, but you can also submit it in her NVC packet.

Good Luck!!

  Reminds me of the article I read today about the passport backlog in the UK http://www.bbc.co.uk...litics-27806441

Oh boy! That sounds pretty serious if they are discussing passport delays at the House of Commons, and they actually came up with solutions!

BTW, my favorite quotes listed in the article: "A sorry shambles from a sorry department" and "idiotic". Priceless

A little off-topic:

I was looking at flight schedules when I realized my passport expired last week. So I took my lunch hour to fill out the renewal form, went to the local Walgreens to get my picture taken and then to the post office.

The entire process (trips included) took about 45 minutes. I didn't have to print 50 pages of supporting docs, didn't have to spend 3 hours sorting out docs and fine combing my form for errors, and I definitely do not have to wait 6+ months for my new passport. What a let down!!

[...]

Because I'm sending the amendment letter today to IRS but it might take a  month for it to update there system and update; but I should have it before the interview date when ever that is.

If you don't mind my input just as an FYI, IRS transcripts do not change from what was originally submitted, so don't panic if you do not see your new marital status updated. For interview just take the transcript along with the 1040X.

Good luck!

CASE COMPLETE as of June 11th! :) :joy: Waiting for an interview.

Congratulations!!   Hoping for a prompt interview scheduling!

Agent Jean also said they are still scheduling July this week!

Awesome Monday news! Congratulations!!! :joy: :joy: :joy:

CASE COMPLETE!!!
We made it! No checklist! Thank you EVERYONE for all the help and the words of wisdom and love!

(FYI: I didn't have a lawyer, my husband has been deployed for pretty much all our journey, so he wasn't any help and English is not my first language, but I read and read and reread and asked questions when needed and I made it)

Good luck my friends

PS: As my signature states, our AOS fee changed to N/A on saturday, we called today and you know the rest!

All by yourself and you breezed thru the NVC process! Great job Arianna! Congrats!!

Hope your husband returns soon.

My friend Ronald M. Is a key part of my strategy for acclimating the family to US.
Because of the time difference just had back to back Fathers Days....
Leaving for the Airport in 24 hours.

Love this pic of your family!

Good tip, although my daughter is a little too old for Ronald. My acclimating plan for her is Twilight's Robert Pattinson (She is team Edward).

Watching everyone I came to know during my journey complete the race.
INTERVIEW tip for ALL......One of the first things they asked my wife for
Was my 2013 Federal Tax Transcript. This is a MUST for everyone Even if you
Have a joint sponsor....it also has to show your correct marital status.

Glad to see you back here, my friend. Happy Father's Day!

What about Alien Number will that be available when I call and get Case Number?

Hello AdnanS, Your beneficiary would have an Alien number only if he/she had a previous resident status in the U.S. and assigned one. If not, just enter N/A.

Good luck!

Without doubt extortion, since you have to go to the Dr's on their list.  They have you by the throat and they know it.  They know in most countries that it's expensive and most people don't have it.  They must think the foreign spouse is paying for it I bet.  I'm lucky my husband has no problem paying for it, but is well aware they are thieves.

My wife just had her medical yesterday. Exam fee in Peru is $167. Not too bad, except that they made her get 5 different vaccinations for an extra cost of $198!!! She was fully prepared, had all her records, and we reviewed that her vaccines were up to date but somehow they managed to add more. Sadly, this is a Peruvian thing, people always trying to pull a fast one.

I just got off the phone with the lovely Jack and our case is complete at NVC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :joy:

No interview date yet though.

Sweet, another CC for today! Congratulations! You are not so Newbie anymore!!

We'll receive an email from NVC when we can pay the IV fee, correct?   :huh2:

If so, I'll stop checking https://ceac.state.gov/ceac/ since I feel silly checking it everyday to see if I can pay the IV fee.   :bonk:

Not always Austin. I never received an email for my IV fee, it was just available one day. I wouldn't trust NVC to send me anything. Hey, at least you don't have to wait 45+ minutes to access CEAC :D

Good luck!

CASE COMPLETE !!!!!

I am in TOTAL disbelief right now. No checklist!!!!!

Just called NVC, got case complete today! So happy. Thank you for all who contributed in this forum which helped me get through this process without any checklist. Good luck to all! By the way aos fee never changed to n/a for me...

Congratulations to both!! Just the kind of news we needed today! :joy:  :joy: :star:

On the way home from I called again, andddd I GOT MY INTERVIEW JULY 21st!!!!!! I can go for a weekend at least!!!! I'm so happy!!!  Now my husband isn't picking up his phone lol he's going to see like 1000 missed calls when he leaves the gym

Alright! DR is scheduling interviews! Congratulations!! :goofy: :goofy:

Yes, I'm sorry I was trying to post quickly on my break. :) My checklist letter says:

"We have finished reviewing your case. We will tell you when we set an interview
date for your case. Please do not contact the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in
LONDON, GREAT BRITAIN AND NORTHERN IRELAND about your
interview until we give you the date."

I just don't like that the items I have to bring are the two exact items I just submitted in my checklist on May 12th. I don't know if they lost them or they just didn't review them at all.

So my case was closed today and I got the email at 4:05pm EST.

Still, big congratulations!! :goofy: :joy:

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNVC Filers - June 2014

Happy Monday Everyone! Let the CC's begin!

So here is a very scary scenario. My wife sent me a text this morning saying she just received an official US letter at her home address in Lima. I asked her to scan it and email it to me asap. The letter is from NVC, giving her case number, IIN, BIN and asking her to go to CEAC and complete the DS-261. The letter is dated March 18, 2014!!

I started laughing but then I thought of all those people not on VJ, who do not know any better and just follow NVC's instructions to the letter. I cannot imagine my wife and I just starting the NVC process today because we had to wait for this letter to arrive.

Fabian&RossyMalePeru2014-06-09 11:15:00

I'm thinking they pull batches of files and divide them up between officers (an unknown amount of officers with an unknown amount of files). Some officers work faster than others. This could likely be the reason for the date discrepancy.

As I've been typing all week, when people call, they can try to find out what date they're working on. Granted, we'll get a range of dates from the various people who call, because they're probably working on a range of dates. And, some Agents lie. Someone whose signature states their IV was scanned in on the 15th found out last night that they are getting a check list. So, they're probably working on the 13th-15th, which sounds reasonable. But, this is all conjecture.

Completely agree with you bdrew. In my observation of this process, I don't think NVC reps get an official notice of what day (received, scanned, etc.) they are currently working on. The operators that do venture to give a day are either estimating based on the cases they get to look up each day in their system, or guessing, or lying. I believe we get a better idea here in VJ because we get to see a broader sample of cases scattered throughout different dates.

That's why it's important to keep our timelines and signatures up to date, to help our fellow members coming after us . Just like many of us are already doing.  :D

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNVC Filers - June 2014

I'm stumped with a DS-260 question that is forcing me to lie: "Have you ever served in the military?"

I did get basic training in the US and served in the US military during Desert Storm to liberate Kuwait. When I answer "Yes" and try to select the country name, USA is not included in the drop down menu!!!

I'm thinking of answering "No" then explain the issue in the cover letter and include an official affidavit issued to me from the US Embassy back in 1991.

Any better suggestions?

PS. Strangely enough, my wife has the same issue as well.

PPS. The DS-260 form did not ask for Beneficiary ID Number, contrary to the pdf sampler.

Hello MoBar65,

That question usually relates to serving in any other foreign military forces, so you might not be necessarily lying if you answer no. Perhaps in the same way that you don't need a police certificate if you lived in the US, you might not need to state that you served in the US military because they would already know from background checks.

Not saying I am correct, just trying to give other thinking points. You should definitely call NVC to see what they say.  Also, you might want to obtain a copy of your DD-214 or any other discharge paperwork, just in case.

Good Luck!

Edit: Oops I missed the part about you having an affidavit from the embassy in 1991, so you're covered on that aspect.

I was told by Alena at NVC I could go ahead and send my civil documents using the AOS cover sheet. I just changed it from MR to DR but they both go to the same address. Since it is taking 30 days for them to review the documents and I waited 2 weeks after paying my AOS to send them in. Hopefully it will work...

Interesting. I would love to see the positive outcome of this suggestion, that would be awesome.

After almost 14 months at USCIS and NVC, we finally have CASE COMPLETE! And as it's my birthday, I have one more reason to celebrate!

I talked to Bruce (?), very nice guy, he told me they are still scheduling for July interviews and so there was a chance I will get one. Don't know if he just said this to be nice on my birthday, but let's hope he says the truth.

Thanks to everyone for the moral support, help and advice.

Good morning B&G

I have filled for my wife and daughter but they are two separate cases of I 130's. One for my wife and one for my daughter (she will be 20 July (F)  (L)  (F)  ) My daughters expedite was approved . Wife's denied but made a request again and got approved just waiting for the decision from USCIS. Hopefully they will answer by the 9th . It is our wedding anniversary 22 years  (L)  (L)  (L)  (L)  (L)

So i think meet the criteria for I864 EZ  for both seperate cases  right ?

Hello Tino,

You are right. If you filed separate I-130's, you are still allowed to complete a I-864EZ for each one (if you also qualified on the other two rules). That's was my situation as well.

Good luck!

Hi VJ members

I just want to let you know our cases (IR5 parents of US citizen) have been completed today.
Please read our experience in my signature that may be helpful for you.
I want to thank VJs members specially Saylin, Jag and Ripu, Canadianplum and Xprecious32 for your help, support and encouragement.

kind regards

Lukiduki

Yay for your parents! and congrats to you! I hope it doesn't take much longer to be with them!! :joy:

 2nd Case complete...........

They review today MAY 9th

Oh, you got both cases completed today! Congratulations!! :goofy:

OK, folks.  It's official!!!

CASE COMPLETE AS OF JUNE 4!!!

:joy: :joy: :joy:

AND, I must have good luck - I never had to speak to either Joy or AH-thur!!!!

Jim was the bearer of good news.  He didn't even ask me "What can I help you with this evening?".  He cut right to the chase and told me the case was complete!

Then, when I gently pushed, he read me the standard line about interview scheduling and it depended on how busy the consulate was, blah, blah, blah.  But he told me he loved being able to tell people good news!!!!

Now....waiting on interview scheduling....

For those of you waiting - it does appear that an "N/A" under "Affidavit of Support Fees" is a positive indicator of case complete.  My package explaining that the checklist item they wanted was 1) not required and 2) not available was scanned in on May 9th.

Sukie

OMG finally!! Congratulations Sukie!!!

I have a question....  After reading all this TAX HUB-BUB... has anyone filed single and got denied at the interview??    I didn't file married , I filed HoH as I always do and mine was accepted No Problem.    I just want to know what the big friggin deal is... all they really want to know is if you make enough money , right?   I mean... is it really worth all this hassle of filing married when they aren't even living in the US and don't have a SS#???    I don't mean to sound like a wise-a$$.. I just have been wondering this for a long time.

For me personally, I'm not filing married until he is here and is working and has a SS#.

Funny, that was exactly my thinking when I first came to VJ, tax forms are only used to verify your income and filing status should not matter for visa purpose. I still think it doesn't matter much but regardless of the visa process, I learned here that it is still a requirement to present correct information to the IRS. Also, I read in other forums and from Saylin that it might not be a big deal, except for applicants in MENA countries at time of interview. Afroukhs's husband is applying in Morocco, so I would lean to be on the safe side in her case. Not sure about HoH though, I never had to research that one.

One thing is for sure, every time someone posts a tax question anywhere in VJ, it is bound to create a heated discussion  :D

Cheers!  :jest:

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNVC Filers - June 2014

Any tax preparer that uses a standard tax preparation software program is probably going to try this switcheroo.  The standard programs will NOT let you file "Married" - either jointly or separately - without an ITIN or SSN in the line for the foreign national.  And the tax preparer does not want to have to fill out the return manually.

I've seen this happen many times since I've been on VJ - and I wish there was something we could add about this to all folks who are going through the IR-1/CR-1 process.

It really is that the tax preparer is clueless or lazy.   If you are married, and you know your spouse does NOT have an ITIN or a SSN, do NOT let your tax preparer file your return electronically.   I do not know every tax return software program out there, but I know MY tax guy, who works for one of the Global Big 4 Accounting firms, taught me about this.  Even his company's software program does not allow for a "married" return to be filed electronically without an ITIN or SSN for both spouses.

It is also a wake-up call for all people.  We are all ultimately responsible for all the details and numbers on our tax returns.  Even if you don't understand taxes at all (and who could understand US taxes!!!!!?????) look over your return every year before you give the OK to submit.  Make sure your personal details are correct!

If you can file an amended return before your send in your AOS packet, you should not have a delay.  Just don't let your tax preparer charge you for preparing the amendment!

Ok so many of you have helped me with this tax 1040 filing single or married.

I have called my tax lady and i tried speaking nice with her and then she got an attitude. Ughh i lost it on her and I shouldnt have. Well she does my mothers taxes and she called my mom. She told my mom there is no way to file me married unless i have a federal tax number for my husband. Did anyone else have a federal tax number for their spouse? She said to get one my husband should go to the consulate with our marriage certificate and ask for one. Honeslty i dont believe or trust what she is saying. Help please can anyone confirm or deny any of this info.

She also said since my parents claimed me for the year that if i filed an admendment they would also need to file an admentment. I just want to cry, why didnt she tell us any of this when we filed!! She knew our situation

I figured your tax preparer would say something like that. Just like Sukie said, whatever their reason may be (clueless, lazy), tax preparers mostly use their online filing software and most of these programs require that you put a SSN or ITIN for your spouse. In these situations, it is recommended to file taxes manually and submit via snail mail and just type "NRA" (non-resident alien) for your husband's SSN. At this point, just do the amendment and send it via mail to the IRS. If you are not comfortable doing it yourself and you do not want to deal with this person anymore, take all your tax docs to another preparer and explain your situation and what you need them to do. Again, do not let them tell you it cannot be done.

Not sure about being claimed in your parents' taxes and how it would affect everything. Unfortunately, I'm not too familiar with that aspect and I would hate to give you bad advice. Other members might chime in on that. However, you should be able to get everything done in the next few days and it should not delay your process.

Good luck!

question for those who had an IV checklist -- did you provide a photocopy with the item you sent in response to the checklist?  or did you just send the original/certified item requested?

The reason for photocopies is for the embassy to keep the copy and return the original document to the applicant. So I would say yes, include a copy of the new document you're sending. :)

I am filling out my I-864 and my mom is co sponsoring and she has 52 cents at the end of her total income. So do I round up or just not include.

Please quote me in response so I know when someone responses Thank you.

If you mean the 1040 tax form that your mom submitted to the IRS is showing 52 cents, then yes, copy the exact amount on the I-864. Other people might say to round up but that is because taxpayers are supposed to round up their tax form numbers in the first place. Careful not to use the "total income" from W-2s.

I am so frustrated. I tried filling my taxes online and I could not, because it wanted certain numbers for my husband. So my mom talked to her tax lady about it and she said it was no problem. So I made an appointment with her and explained everything to her. She said yep that is no problem. So I sat down with her as she filled out my taxes, and I saw her mark married filling separately. Now that I need to send AOS package I am making copies of my 1040 and I see it says SINGLE!! THE ANGER I HAVE RIGHT NOW. Trying to calm down and hoping this doesnt make a problem for me. My mom is saying I might be ok, because we were married after June. I was hoping anyone could shed some light on this and if any of you filled single and if it caused any problems for you!

HELP PLZ!

Even if you got married on the last day of the 2013, for tax purposes you're considered married for the entire year. Contact your tax preparer again and get her to file a 1040X asap. Don't let her tell you that you cannot file MFS. Afterwards, you can submit your AOS packet including your complete 2013 tax return with W-2's, 1099's (if applicable) AND your form 1040X showing you amended your filing status.

Good luck!

Thanks for the answer-- yes, that's what I was suspecting-- I was feeling hopeful we could avoid it, but will just have to do it...

I will see about other browsers-- it may also be that I need to get up at 4 a.m. so I can access it at  7 their time-- that's when it becomes available.

True, a lot of governments do not place much importance to their online services. God knows what kind of technology they might be using.

Hey guys... Its almost 2 weeks I have paid AOS fee and submitted DS-261 but IV fee still not open yet. how much time it will take to open? Waiting and waiting..  :clock:

I'm afraid this has become the new standard in recent weeks. You can check out timelines and signatures of other members to give you a better idea.

Good luck!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNVC Filers - June 2014

Happy June everyone!

My husband's case has been at NVC for a few weeks now, and I've filled out the 261, and am waiting for the IV bill to become payable...  I have a question relating to the paperwork I am trying to get ready for the IV packet:

I told my husband last year that we would need to get police certificates, so he went to a friend who is a police officer, and who issued him something called a "constancia de verificación de ciudadano" which apparently is what is used within Venezuela-- But I had been looking at websites, including VJ, and knew that there is something that the Venezuelan government issues for foreign use (certificado de antecedentes penales) which seems to be what the state department expects to see... So I have been trying to request them online, but the website doesn't seem to work hardly at all, although one person on VJ told me she had successfully requested them there... even if it works, my husband will have to go to Caracas to pick the papers up, which is possible but a bit of a headache...

So I have been posting about this in the IR-1/CR1 forum, and another user told me that in his/her opinion it maybe isn't necessary, that s/he is going off information listed on the state dept's website about what the embassy requires, and the Caracas embassy (where this person was looking) doesn't mention police certificates.

So now I am getting very confused-- Can anyone out there shed some light?  Are police certificates required for all countries at the NVC stage?  If so, do we need the ones from Caracas, or will the local ones do?  Does anyone have helpful tips for getting the website to work?

Thanks so much for your thoughts!

Hello Dawning,

Yes, you will need to include a police certificate for your husband's IV packet. Check out this DOS link for Venezuela:

As far as the Venezuelan website, try using different browsers.

Good luck!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNVC Filers - July 2014

So, not only are the training wheels coming off, but I just found out yesterday that since I'm taking independent phone calls now and will begin independent on-call nights and weekends that I get a $1 bump in my hourly wage, so woohoo! I wasn't told this at all when I started  So, got a nice little surprise :) Granted, it's only an extra $40 a week (minus taxes of course  ), but whatever, I'll take it. I'll be that much closer to paying off my Disney and DC trip!

There you go! It might be just a little extra cash for now but the main point is that your management is treating you like a more established member of their staff and starting to invest more on you. There is a such a high turnover rate in the logistics industry that companies certainly appreciate when they see a promising new employee. So congrats Saylin! Enjoy DC and Disney!

It shows it on list of transactions on my checking account but it still says pending next to the transaction, though the amount has already been deducted from my current available balance.  Do you still think it is OK?

I also have a non-related question.  My joint sponsor had previously listed his employer as

"company name, store #, name of mall store is in" but I told him to delete the name of the mall because it is not listed that way on his documents that show proof of employment.  However, he forgot to delete the extra comma after the store number when he re-printed the form.  If I leave it as is, is NVC going to checklist us?  Do you think I should hand-write something after the comma that matches the document to save face?  Will they be suspicious if half the field is typed and half is hand written?  Asking him to send it again will delay us another 4-5 days....

I would go for it and send it. By the time they get to scan your packet, payment would already be fully accepted. As far as the comma, I don't think it's a big deal. The name of the company in his documents will match what he put in the I-864. Or maybe you can use a black pen and turn the comma into a period.

Good luck!

Not moving up, just one of the requirements

Hey, in my book, you must be doing something right if the training wheels are coming off.

It's no longer a big deal to get a checklist on the AOS package since it now takes 30 days to pay the IV fee.  That's one "positive" thing about not being able to pay the IV fee for 30 days.

If you get a checklist, you can send your checklist document and IV package at the same time.

Of course, it's better not to receive a checklist on the AOS package, but my point is it won't delay your application process that much assuming you send your AOS package as soon as you can pay the fee.   :)

Very good point Austin. Yet a sad fact about NVC nowadays :clock:

Sounds like an NVC phone agent lurking undercover here. Which one are you? Arthur or Joey? 'Fess up!

Darn you MoBar, you have blown my cover! :ranting:    Time to create a new VJ profile

I am trying extremely hard to avoid getting a checklist. Can we talk about which parts are okay to leave blank on the I-864? For instance part 1. Is pretty much multiple choice so when I answer with which answer applies to my husband can I leave the other blank or should we put "n/" or "none"?

I would put N/A or NONE as needed on any blank space. In part 1, mark the checkbox applicable to you and answer the question. For the other options, leave the checkboxes blank but put N/A on the answer fields.

Good luck!

Thankfully, we rotate phone shifts at my job. Today just ended up being mine. My first one all alone too (I've had a trainer previously listening in)

Moving up at the new job I see

Thanks. I'll ask him to get his transcript online. Will he get it right away after making an account or does he need to wait a couple of days to have it? Thanks

If his transcript is ready, then he will be able to download it right away in PDF format from the IRS website.

Best wishes purpleblush!

Aaaaand done! Got interrupted by a call at work :P

I know the feeling, my job would be so much better without those pesky customers calling all the time!
