K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMedical Exams, with cough and colds

Scars on the arms and many of the annulments get the "joy" of doing the psychological exam for sure.

These things cause them to consider the possibility that there is something wrong with you psychologically, even though there are many reasons why mentally healthy people get annulled and get scars on their wrists and hands.

My wife has a scar on her hand from a kitchen accident while she was working in Hong Kong.  Although I prepared her for the possibility that they would send her to a psych, it never happened.  I told her to not volunteer anything but if the doctor asked to just explain what happened.  The doctor said nothing.

As for the urine test, it seems strange that there would be a significant change in policy with so little fanfare that there would be nothing that shows up in Google.  I am fairly well convinced that it was done just to screen for pregnancy before they send you to the X-ray.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMedical Exams, with cough and colds

I am going to be 32 next week, my son is 11. I think they want to make sure that you don't have a period because of the pyshical exam where you have to undress and the doctor will look at the private parts and also during xray they will ask for your last period cos they want to make sure you will be properly protected in case you are pregnant.

I know about the first part.  The technical instructions from the CDC to the doctors state that they must look.

As for the second, it makes sense that is why they ask for that info.  But if you think about ti, the urine test (which my wife got back in May before her chest X-ray) may be for that exact reason, to check for pregnancy before they do the X-ray.

Are you of child bearing age?  That may have something to do with it.  My wife is 41.  I understand that men don't get the urine test, so it seems they are only using it as a pregnancy test.

If you think about it, that makes worries about blood contamination in the urine silly because if you are having your period, you are not pregnant.

In repots I have been reading from other countries, it seems they use the urine test selectively when they suspect drug use, which is silly as well because the drugs will show up in your blood and not every drug shows up in your urine.

I have been looking in Google for any change in policy at St. Lukes regarding urine tests and found nothing.

7 days ahead is fine.  Some people have gotten away with as little as 3.

But do you have to wait for the 22nd?  Your period should be over by the 15th.  You don't really have to wait 7 days after your period,  They just tell you that to make sure it is over.  As long as you are sure it is over, you are good to go.

If you can, you should consider going on the 16th or 17th because lines are shortest there on Thursdays and Fridays.  Failing that, go Monday the 20th.  That gives you 9 days, plenty of time in advance and plenty of time past your period as well.

When was the urine test discontinued?  My wife did hers in May of this year and had a urine test.  She went 8 days in advance of interview and did fine.

You have spotting already?  Too late.  Wait for your period to be over.  Blood spots will contaminate the urine sample, and they will reject it.

What day is your interview on?  Will you be cutting it close?  A little plannng here will go a long way.

I have read stories where people cut it close and told St. Luke's about it, and they helped these people get things done on time.

Note the days your period starts and stops because you will be asked by both the doctor and the nurse.

You will be fine mainly because you have been doing the smart thing of asking instead of guessing.  We will continue to do our best to help.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMedical Exams, with cough and colds

Absolutely no benefit to starting the medical only to have to stop and come back after their period is finished.  The above is for sure bad advice.

I second that.  Why get up at 4 AM so you can be on the line at 6 AM twice?  The med will not be done until the second time you go there, so might as well do it all after your period is done.

Or even better, do it now before your period starts.  As long as you are confident your simple cold and cough is just that and nothing serious, don't worry about it.  Neither a simple cold nor a simple cough will cause you to fail the exam.

Al422MalePhilippines2014-10-06 17:34:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMedical Exams, with cough and colds

Manila definitely will not do it during a period.  Other med offices are lax on that, but Manila is strict on it.

If you are sure the cough and cold are not something more than that, like bronchitis, then go.  If the doctor asks, tell her that you have a cough and cold and let her examine you for it as she pleases.  As long as it is nothing worse, nothing will come of it.

And if you went to a doctor for it, bring in whatever records the doctor has as well as any medicines the doctor prescribed.

Check the website of the police agency in Korea that issued it.  The interviewer will not accept an expired police clearance, so if it is expired you had best get a new one in time for your interview.

Al422MalePhilippines2014-10-06 12:08:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresaproved today! but i have some questions

The consulate is located in the embassy.  Most citizens of the Philippines go to Manila.

In about 4 weeks you will get a letter from the NVC (National VIsa Center) that they will be sending your file to the consulate in Manila.  There is an important number in that letter called the MNL number.  This will be the reference number the whole time your file is in Manila.

Once you get this letter, you take it and the sum of $340 to any Philippines located branch of the Bank of Philippine Islands together with a BPI deposit slip that you download from the internet.  I don't remember exactly where you download it from; I hope someone else can help with that.  If you google K-1 visa USEM deposit at BPI that should be enough to find it.  This is how you pay your interview fee.

Once that is paid, you can go on the USEM web site and sign up for a visa interview.  There was quite a long backlog because of large numbers of Yolanda victims wanting visas, but that crunch has eased up a bit.  Now you should be able to get an appointment in about 2 months.  Note the requirement for all the documents you need, including that affidavit of support from your US fiance.  Make sure you can get this stuff together on time, otherwise grabbing the first possible appointment date may not be a good idea.  You should have this stuff to hand in when you interview.  You can have it late, but that will delay your visa by several weeks, again not a good idea.  Better to set your appointment a little later to give yourself enough time to gather your documents so you do this right the first time.

Next thing is to get ready for your medical exam at St. Luke's Extension Center.  You should plan on doing that at least one week before your interview so they have time to get the results filed with USEM.  It actually only takes them about 1/2 week to get it filed, but give them the whole week so you don't overshoot it.  You want a safety margin there to make sure the medical stuff gets to the embassy on time.  Don't go there during your period, as that will interfere with the exam, but otherwise you should be fine.  And don't worry about minor things like coughs and colds.  They only care about serious transmittable diseases and won't fail you for a cough or cold.

If your fiance is there in Manila with you, he will be permitted to participate in the interview, but you are on your own for the med.  He won't even be allowed in the St. Luke's building.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFinancial support-k1visa haiti, please helppppp!!!

Every K-1 requires a financial support affidavit.  Usually your fiance hands it in at the interview, but an embassy can require it to be filed in advance.  I don't know specifically what this embassy requires.

At this point you already filed, so just wait and see.  If they send it back, re-send it, this time with the financial, and problem solved.

Give it 2 weeks minimum.  Did you sign up on the USCIS website for email notification?  That comes faster and is something you should do.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPlease help me for sending back RFE.

It takes them a good 3 weeks to process the new papers, so not hearing from them in only 8 days does not mean a problem.

But no harm in calling them to make sure they got it.  Just be ready to be on hold for a while when you do.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFees after NOA2

No, they do not accept installments, and it must be by check or money order.  No credit card.

The medical is paid to the medical office the embassy wants you to use.  Each one has different rules on how you pay them.

The embassy fee is also subject to the embassy's own rules.

Marriage license?  Mine cost me $25 plus $10 for a certified copy to file with the Philippine government so they can recognize our marriage in my wife's home country, and her govt banged us for $25 more to get it filed.

The marriage is not free.  Mine was $40 because I let the Town Clerk do it.  To hire a church or private minister is much more, maybe hundreds.

One more thing:  You have to fly your wife here.  I spent $800 for that.

A class B condition will not prevent you from entering the United States, nor will missing vaccinations.  You can get them here from the civil surgeon or from a private doctor of your choosing.  It would be nice to have gotten them at SLEC because of cost, but they do this all the time.  But don't worry.  Come here and have your fiance take you to the civil surgeon or a private doctor (or maybe a health clinic since they are cheaper).  This is not a big problem.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresThe RFE Master List
I don't know if failure to do this will result in an RFE as I did it anyway just in case, but instead of a mere photocopy of my birth certificate, I obtained a certified copy from Dept of Health Services and sent it it with the original certification. It only cost about $25.00, well worth the extra security.

Anybody ever get an RFE from a mere photocopy?

As for the passport, I sent the first page with my photo and the adjoining page with the info, as well as the page with the Russian travel visa and visa stamp for the trip to meet my fiance. I felt that other pages containing visas to meet other Russian ladies where the trips went bust and other irrelevant travel stamps (Holland, Germany, Austria, etc) would only confuse them, so I omitted them. I read the part about birth certificate OR every page of the passport and since I sent the birth certificate, every page of the passport would not be necessary. I hope I am right. I suppose I will find out in a few months.

I think I got everything covered: I was born in NYC and got a certified copy of my BC from Health Services, and I send my passport too. Sent her passport as well, her visa when she came here, my visa when I went there, visa stamps for all trips, photos for all trips with dates and places.

One question: She honestly does not know the whereabouts of her father since he abandoned the family when she was a baby. This is a common situation in Russia. So she put his name in, but current address is unknown, a perfectly honest answer.

Might this be a problem?

How long does it usually take after sending in the requested rfe to see some action, i mean an approval if all the required documents are correct? Just to get an idea, I've seen as early as 1 day after and as late as 2 weeks after it was received, so I was a bit concerned for myself. Thanks and good luck to the rest of us waiting.

Who exactly are you condescending here...

I'm assuming it's the op, who's first language obviously isn't English.

So if it's confusing to you, I have corrected it.

If nobody ever says anything to foreigners about their English, then they won't even know they need to keep working at it.  The OP's post was completely unintelligible because of the pronoun problems.  Correcting pronouns is very simple to do as altenobe pointed out.

Your translation is appreciated, but really you're just guessing.  We need clarity in these conversations and his English was so bad that it really made it impossible to understand.

No one is criticizing him for having bad English.  We all understand that there are a lot of foreigners on this site for whom English is not their first language.  But I don't see any problem with someone saying something about it when it gets to the point that their question is unintelligible.

So, I made it to the nyc:)
Everything went smoothly, POE officer doesn't have any info about pending k1 visa in his computer.
I came here with my parents, so there were 2 questions at the Poe:
- purpose of our visit ("vacation")
- for how long do you plan to stay ("18 days")

And that was it:)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresYes, you can visit!

 Hello, Friend16!

You're welcome! smile.png

Hmm...honestly.. I don't really think that they have any info about pending K-1 visa in their computers. But I may be wrong, I just think this way, because the very first officer that interviewed me in Seattle was kinda surprised, when I said I am visiting my fiance and never asked about anything, just sent me to another officer. I think they just deal with the visitors, and they don't really know anything about what you're doing, like if you're getting another visa or so.
But the other officer, that lady, I think she kinda deals with people like us, or she just knows, once you're sent with that red piece of paper to talk to her, she just knows you're in process of K-1 or some other immigrant visa.
Anyway, I do think it's totally okay (and you should do that!) to mention your K-1 visa. It makes you look so much better and they know you're a good and trustworthy person biggrin.png It's nothing illegal or wrong to visit your fiance, while your K-1 is in process. I wasn't sure about it too, but right now I am. I guess it would be worse, if you were engaged and if you actually mentioned it to the officer, but your K-1 wasn't pending at all. That would be really suspicious and you could be accused of willing to marry your fiance illegally.

Thank you very much!:)
In several days we will see what questions officers will ask from me:)
Hope everything will be fine!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresYes, you can visit!

So, this is going to be a quite long story about my interviews. I had the very first one during my stop in Amsterdam, which actually made me a bit surprised and I didnt expect it. I got interviewed when I found my gate, the officer asked me about my passport and my plane ticket and told me to stand next to the table behind her and wait, and that made me a little nervous. She asked a lot of questions, like even more than I got at the POE. So she asked for how long I was going to visit, who I was going to visit, who paid for my plane tickets and why she also asked about my occupation on Poland and my fiances occupation, and if he knew that I was coming to visit him.. then some other questions about my luggage and that was it.

When I arrived in Seattle, I spent about 40 min in a lane, and when I finally got a chance to talk to the officer, he just asked the same question, who I was going to visit and for how long. When I mentioned my fiance he just gave me that look, made a funny sound uuuuu fiance, huh? and handed me a huge, red piece of paper and told me to go to another place for a second interview So yeah, I got so nervous.

The second officer made me wait a little longer, so actually my 2 interviews lasted 50 minutes. At the very beginning she said you better tell me the truth so it would be faster for both of us. So yeah, you can imagine how I felt, almost like a criminal lol. But I did, I was honest and very sure about my answers. She asked me about the purpose of my trip, how long I have been together with my fiance, what he does in the US, etc. Then she asked if I had any papers I could show her. I said yeah, a lot of papers, so she just smiled. But she only looked at my NOA1 and NOA2 and said she was so happy and that gave me a huge benefit that we were doing everything the right way, legally. I felt so much better after she said so. Then she just told me that I shouldnt  visit on my tourist visa anymore, since theres a chance I may not be guaranteed an entry next time, and I just should wait, because I would get married so soon and get my green card so it would be easier for me to travel and to stay in the US. I said that I knew that already, and that trip was the last one I decided to have on my tourist visa. She stamped my passport and wished me a good time in America.

I picked up my luggage and finally saw my babe after 5 months of being apart!!

Now its my 4th day in Seattle. All I can say to you guys, just be honest about every question and bring as many papers proving your ties to the country you come from, as you can, just in case. I had a huge briefcase with me, and got only 2 papers checked, but you never know.

And dont be afraid to travel, after getting your NOA2! J  I am still waiting on my papers from the embassy, so I hope to make everything on time. Right now I am trying to get all the things needed from my fiance, and I have already started filling out some other papers that my embassy requires me to have with me.
Just hope I didnt make you bored guys hah, good luck for everyone who is planning on visiting  their loves in the US and for those, who are still waiting on their NOA2!

Thanks for sharing your experience !:)

I'm sorry - I can't tell you for certain.  I have always disclosed it at CBP if I am asked who I am visiting - i.e. it usually starts 'Who are you visiting?' 'My fiance' and it goes from there.  My feeling is that they can't tell but I do not know that for sure.

Even if they do see that you're in the middle of the K1 process, it doesn't really do any harm.  It's a balancing act for them.  You have already indicated that you want to enter the US permanently by starting the K1 process but you are also showing that you are doing it the right way.

Thank you!:)
I will be entering US with my parents and they are actually going on vacation there )
So I don't know - maybe it would be better for me to say that we are there just for vacation purposes...

Of course unless CBP officer doesn't ask about whom I'm visiting))

Staying that long shouldn't cause an issue at the interview. See FAQ 4.6 here:

http://www.visajourn...cation.html#4.6

It suggests that it may cause a problem if your file is already registered at your consulate. If you're planning on leaving as soon as you get your NOA2, this should not be a problem.

Thank you!:)
Friend16FemaleRussia2013-04-05 00:11:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresYes, you can visit!

When asked why you are visiting, it is perfectly ok to say "vacation", or "visiting". If they ask WHO are you visiting/staying with, or other such questions, then you answer them honestly. The key is to never lie, but to never offer extra information unless asked for it. The more variables are introduced, the greater the chance for confusion, and the more the IO's subjective opinions come into play. Be prepared to show ties to your home country, I-129F receipt, etc. but chances are you won't even need to. Entering with your mom and dad with valid tourist visas and a hotel reservation and return ticket is happening thousands of times a day at any POE, and they just don't have the time to get their hackles up for it. IF you are questioned and they want to do additional interviewing, THEN offer them all your evidence. You'll be fine.

Thank you very much!!
You calmed me !:)

One more problem is - I want to stay with my fiance in the USA as long as it is possible on the tourist visa- until we get the NOA2- that is 3-4 months....
My goal is to obtain the maximum length of stay on I-94 form at the POE - 6 months...

How do you think, is there can be any problems with my future k1 visa ( on the interview ?) that is why I ve been to USA for so long - several months ?

Hello everyone! :)

I've read all the information on this topic, but couldn't find the answer to my question, so I really need your advice :help:
Here's my situation:

We mailed the 129-f a month ago , so now we are waiting for NOA2.

Also I have a tourist b2 visa, which I obtained before I met my fiance.
So I've been to USA 2 times as a tourist (it was before I met my love).

And now I want to come to USA on my tourist visa while we are waiting for our noa2.

So the question is : is it better to be completely honest at the POE and say that I am visiting my fiance or just say that I am going to vacation?

Oh, and I will be entering the USA with my mom or dad, so we will have the hotel reservation confirmation :)

I am so afraid that officers at the POE won't let me in:(

Any advice from you would be appreciated!

We got an RFE because they wouldn't accept our typed and signed Intent of Marriage letters, they wanted them handwritten. They also would not accept my Fiance's visa photos, he did them himself, following exactly to the instructions, but they threw them back and he had to get them done at the local pharmacy. They also would not accept his photocopy of his birth certificate, the requested a certified copy, which we are now waiting for

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresGeneral K1 Guides and Info

Please, please for some advice. I recently filed for my fiance (I-129F) and we are awaiting approval notice which should be coming anytime soon. A relative of his petitioned for him many years ago but by the time he was called for the interview he was over 21 meaning that when the relative initially petitioned he was a minor but when he got to the interview he was no longer a minor. The returned all of his documents and basically said that he cannot receive a visa at this time and a petition would have to be resubmitted with his new age status. My question is, will this affect our petition and is there any documentation we need to take with us on the interview. Thanks!!!smile.png

Don't know if it's helpful to people - but I just wanted to add into this thread how easy I found it to visit by entering the land border at Niagara.

Flew from the UK to Toronto where my USC fiance met me. We then drove back into the States through Niagara - I brought bags of evidence with me to show ties to the UK, but didn't need a single thing. They just asked what our relationship to each other is - we said we're "together", and then I just filled in the usual I-94, paid the $6 land crossing fee and that was it! Went on to spend a happy 3 months with him there.

Definitely didn't seem like anything at all came up on the computer - hardly surprising as I don't think the land borders are very computerised anyway - you don't need an ESTA to cross them as I guess they haven't got the system running "on land" yet.
