CanadaNext batch of K1's waiting for interview in MTL

On this topic, how many of you guys are at the point of calling the DoS daily?

Every third business day... didn't want to annoy them too much. :D

I'll be hopeful and put us in the "next batch" with you, although our Packet 3 still hasn't been logged in yet.

A-HA! Called DoS again today, and found out our Packet 3 was logged in 2 July.

Has anyone heard of barefoot sandles? I am thinking of wearing those, but just can't find the ones that I really love. http://sandals-flipf...pearlswhite.gif

Prettiness!

Hi! I'll be hopeful and put us in the "next batch" with you, although our Packet 3 still hasn't been logged in yet. That worries me a bit because some sent back later have been logged in. I mean really, isn't "logging in" a packet just acknowledging you've received it? It's not like they have to have an interview date available to do that. We're reeeeally hoping for September interview and wedding no later than early November, so it's not winter so his family can drive here for it. :/

I plan to fly up for my swee's interview, then fly over to Ontario and meet his family.

We have planned what we can for now, I've posted some in the "Wedding Details" thread, maybe will update here or there later. :innocent:

Well we did sign up for DHL on the website, but also brought an Xpresspost envelope just in case. I asked at the window 9 which would be faster, and he said Xpresspost, so we went with that.

We did. London, ON. I didn't see any way to get past the page without choosing a DHL branch. Although, I was rushing to get a date before leaving for work so may have missed such an option.

CanadaMontreal apptment times?
Our appointment was for 08:00. We were in line at 06:36. I had to go back to the hotel 5 minutes before 07:30 to get something and the security guard letting people in told Dave it would cause less confusion if he waited for me before going in. So he waited for me and we were let in at 07:35, which is 5 minutes before Packet 4 told us to be there, so... still don't know. X)

CanadaK1 Interview Montreal Nov 2
We filled them out (156 online, 156K on paper) and mailed them in as part of Packet 3, but were also asked for them at the interview. Do you have copies?

BUT, the man at the window gave us back what seemed like everything we mailed in with P3. So, who knows, maybe if we'd forgotten them he would've just kept the ones he had.

Would someone who's received this mysterious new P4 letter be kind enough to scan it and have it added to the Montreal wiki page on here? I found seeing scans of p3/p4 there was really helpful.

My letter stated that US citizen are allowed to accompany you. I don't see how they could deny a US citizen from entering their own consulate. Are you sure it's not in yours??

LOL oops, thanks! Nope, I'm not sure about anything in our Packet 4, we haven't seen ours yet. :innocent:

CanadaOctober K-1 interviews in Montréal!
It's not October yet, but we're the first group to schedule our own! Yay! We like that we could choose the date that worked best for our schedules and plans.

I've got some questions for the first of the October interviewees. These are both from the info you get when logged into http://canada.usvisa-info.com/ on the "View Visa Information" page.

1. Please arrive on time, but not earlier than 20 minutes before the scheduled appointment time.

No more waiting out in the cold on the left with no overhang at 06:30? First people in October, please report back whether this is so. Thanks!

2. Accompanying Persons

The following persons may accompany a visa applicant during his or her visit to the Consular Section:
  • Interpreters: An applicant may bring one interpreter if he does not speak English (or French if applying in Montreal or Quebec City) well enough to participate unassisted in the visa interview.
  • Special Needs Assistants: An applicant may bring one person to assist him if he is elderly, disabled, or a minor child.
The following persons may not be allowed into the U.S. Consular Section premises:
  • Attorneys: An applicant may not be accompanied by his or her attorney(s).
  • Drivers, friends, extra relatives, and others not specifically named above cannot be permitted to enter and will be asked to return to meet the applicant after the interview is complete.
  • Due to the limited size of the Consular Section waiting rooms, the high volume of visa applicants, and the time required to screen consular clients, other accompanying persons cannot and will not be admitted to the Consular Section.

Seriously? Does this include US Citizens, no longer allowed to accompany visa applicants? I so hope that's not true! :(

All I can say is be careful you ask questions at the jewelry store - we had a wedding ring nightmare about 1 yr after our wedding.
We had purchased them at Ben Moss in Canada (a reputable enough place you'd think) about 4 months before the wedding - white gold and each was engraved

1 year later I take my band off for some reason and was looking at it in the light and noticed it had 'flaked' near the engraving...now ...a wedding ring should NOT flake considering it's solid gold.

Well - guess what - it wasn't - they had sold us gold plated wedding bands....and it was almost funny because from the day we out them on - they didn't seem as 'white gold and gleaming' as we expected them to be...but we figured, ok - whatever. I was very, very upset - it pi$$ed me off that they had made something I considered important into a piece of cheap #######....the warrantee on a wedding ring which is engraved had long run out....we'd bought them in Canada and weren't planning on going anywhere back home anytime soon. We dropped by Jared's and they confirmed it was just gold plated.

So we ended up buying new bands at Kays and this time we went for Palladium - which is a step down from Platinum...a wee bit cheaper, but equally fine looking...slightly heavier them gold....and beautifully silver.

Definitely ensure you are getting solid gold...ask them to confirm...if that's what you want that is.

F...Ben Moss is all I have to say. I considered going to the Better Business Bureau back in Kitchener...but frankly....I don't have time

:wow:
Sorry that happened to you! Thanks for the warning! Unrelated, Kay Jewelers is likely where we're getting ours.

I checked half a dozen jewelry stores and most say it takes 2-3 weeks to order wedding bands. Good thing I didn't wait 'til after Dave moves here 2 weeks before the wedding! :o

We're going with a different florist than I first spoke with. The new one says roses can't be dyed the same way as other flowers, they don't wick the water up the stem. Instead they need to be spray-painted. (We want blue roses like in the place in the game world where our characters first met, see my sig.) She spray-painted a carnation for me and the next day I couldn't smell the spray paint unless I put my nose right up to it. I'm glad the florist tells it like it is!

We finally have/know where to get all the parts required to make the wedding favours, w00tz! Mom's done addressing the invitations in super neat calligraphy. :) Still need to get printer to recognise the size of the invitations instead of erroring "Paper Mismatch". Cake topper is *mostly* done, just needs a few finishing touches. (Srsly the way I do art projects it won't be done 'til the day before it's "due". :P

I know you're suppose to "wear" what you borrowed, but I borrowed my MIL's mom's bible to have up at the alter. So I had something borrowed and old at the same time. When I asked my MIL about it, she cried... but a good cry.

Aww, that's really sweet, Peachey!

how about a pretty braclet or, some sort of pin you can hide under the dress? A hanky incase you cry?

What about a nice anklet? Maybe some nail polish to put on your toes?

Hmm, I suppose a bracelet or hidden pin or nail polish could work. Thanks for the ideas! :)

I had my second dress fitting yesterday. The seamstress asked if we'd set a date yet, and I said no, we're still waiting for Dave's visa... She said because I'd lost weight, she already has to take the dress apart again to fit it, and if I lose more weight she'd have to do that again and charge me more. So she's not going to do anything with it for now and I'm to call her for an appointment 3 weeks before the wedding. I got the dress to fit me as-is, I was happy with my size for the wedding, then I ended up getting sick so the weight loss was unintentional. But now I don't have the dress to show my MoH when she comes to visit next weekend, pooh!

Instead of the hotel or banquet hall, we're having the ceremony in my parents' great room, and the reception at a restaurant. After we decided that, and I realised we didn't have to go with the "package" vendors of our previous first choice venue, I was like "Yay! We don't have to have an ugly cake!" xD

Something old: my grandmother's wedding ring on my right hand
Something new: just about everything (I'll say boots, because they were made last)
Something blue: lapis lazuli in headpiece
Something borrowed... o_o I don't want to wear a necklace because it would detract from the headpiece. I already have earrings, and don't borrow cosmetics. No clue what to borrow from a happily married woman, LOL. Any ideas? ^^

Someone give me a gold star! I've read through this entire thread, LOL!

To jump in late on topics previously discussed...

In lieu of premarital counseling, my parents bought Dave and me each a copy of the book 1001 Questions to Ask Before You Get Married by Monica Mendez Leahy. We talk on Ventrilo at least a few hours every night, so we're going through that book as we feel like it, and it's pretty neat, brings up a range of topics we might not have thought to discuss on our own.

We're not doing the garter thing or the cake smushing either. x)

Dave is 11 inches taller than me, and I really don't care if I look hella short next to him in pics. I was initially thinking to wear shoes with a little heel, that I could take off easily for dancing... then read on some etiquette site that everyone at the head table should keep their shoes on for the entire celebration! >_< I thought, if I'm to keep my footwear on the whole day, I should wear something comfortable, and I'm most comfortable in boots, so I ordered these! :) They haven't arrived yet.. hope they fit! *crosses fingers* :}

@lilac, I ordered my tiara from http://www.camiasdesigns.com/ and decided to wait until getting it to see whether I want a veil. I'm thinking probably not. :} Thanks for the projectwedding.com link! I hope all goes smoothly for you. :)

@Huggle, thank you for your words of encouragement! We're aiming for September-November, since we're not going to start booking anything until he has the visa, and Montreal was backed up until recently, and we want enough time for our guests to make travel plans.

My gown is hanging on the closet door next to me! The cashier said they didn't have any left in the warehouse, so I got the "floor model". :D

@CDAgirlMI Congratulations!! =)

Hi! I'm the USC bride in a K-1 couple, and my fiance is in Ontario. We met on Rappelz, a fantasy-style Korean MMORPG.

We're planning to have a wedding reception on the same day as we get married. Some things that should help a little are that we're planning to marry on a Sunday (less popular than Saturday for weddings), and to have the civil ceremony and reception in the same location. We're having only one attendant each, so we don't need to worry about getting a bunch of people who live far away to match each other.

Since we don't know until he has his visa in hand, when the wedding can possibly be, we can't book anything yet... but my parents are a great help in planning, and we've started picking some things ahead of time. I've seen a few venues and picked my first and second choices. I'm optimistic that we -will- be able to get the first choice though, because once Dave has his visa, we can talk to the venue person and determine a date that would work.

I knew before entering the bridal shop what style gown I wanted. (Mind you, I'd never *thought* much about wedding stuff at all before, ever; I just happen to know what kind of clothes look good on me.) The first gown I tried on was the one. I tried on 3 or 4 others to be sure. :P Easy! Well, my mom noticed it was on sale this week, so I'm buying it later today. *squee!* I also chose a tiara and boots from online which I'm ordering soon. Possibly already chose a veil... I'll see today at the bridal shop. I'll be doing my own nails, makeup, and hair.

The "theme" of the wedding attire/decor is the game where we met. Not to look like we're costumed characters; just a hint, a flavour, of what the characters in the game *would* wear if they were translated into the real world. My MoH and the guys know what kind of clothes they're looking for. My char, a Priestess, is Light and Water based, and Dave's char, a Warlock, is Darkness and Fire based. Works out perfectly with traditional wedding colours, so we're going with it! xD

The 1st and 2nd choice venues both have their own menus, so no need to choose a caterer. Both venues have a florist and a cake artist they work with, so that eliminates the need to choose those. That leaves invitations, an officiant, DJ, and photographer. Menu, linens, and cake style can be decided per venue beforehand. Flowers have to wait because we won't know what will be in season, though I do have very specific ideas of what looks right.

Other things that can be done or at least decided ahead of time:
  • get all contact info for guest list
  • pick invitations
  • guest favours
  • music / gather MP3s of important songs for the DJ
  • write posed photo groupings on index cards for photographer
  • salon appointment to get ideas of how to arrange my hair with tiara and veil
  • write vows
  • wedding rings
Now to finish reading through the rest of this thread! :innocent:

CanadaHotel Reviews Montreal
Hotel Le Dauphin Centre-Ville is a two block walk from the consulate. It's also a 3 block walk from Complexe Desjardins, a mall with a Canada Post on the bottom level. The levels are colour-coded; look for the lime green sign for the lower level. I also recommend the poutine at Franx Supreme in the mall food court. :D There's a shuttle from the airport, the 747 Express, that stops 2 blocks away from Le Dauphin: get off at stop 6, Rue Jeanne-Mance. Don't do what I did and count alleys on Google Maps as streets; pay attention to street names and you'll be fine. :bonk:

The hotel was quite nice. Cleanliness is very important to me and Le Dauphin gets an 'A'. The people at the front desk were helpful and spoke English. The room came with a PC. Apparently the hotel has WiFi, but I just plugged the cat5 from the room PC into my laptop. The shower was nifty: walls and floor of small tile, with instead of a door or curtain, just a wall and a half of stationery glass sealed together at the corner. They have a larger selection than the usual continental breakfast; they even have a cappuccino machine. Breakfast starts at 06:00, so plenty of time to check out, get breakfast, and get to the consulate.

CanadaThe Vent Part Quatre
USPS requires too-detailed customs forms. I sent my swee a birthday present, and the man behind the counter said I had to be more specific, when I can't imagine what could be dangerous or contraband about the more generic term. It's supposed to be a *surprise*!!! I ended up telling him he's getting a package, and requesting he not read the outside of it before opening it and he agreed. :P

CanadaThe Vent Part Quatre
I've been wanting to vent and just put two and two together and figured out this is the proper thread for it.

1. Dave sent back P3 on 14 May, Canada Post marked it received 17 May, but it wasn't "logged in" until 2 July. Others who *mailed* their Packet 3 back the week before ours was *logged in* already have interview dates, so hopefully, ours will be scheduled soon... I know, everyone waits, and unfair things happen, and this is really really minor compared to other cases. I just have this paranoid thought that ours was shoved aside for a while because it wasn't mailed back right away, but that was because it was a Major Issue for Dave to get access to a working printer. >_< And I know realistically the delay in checking in probably had nothing to do with that. 'Twould be nice to have the wedding before winter so his family can make the drive though...

2. Dear Montréal, please give Dave his visa soon, so we can get married and I can change my name, so maybe, just maybe, people at work will stop confusing my last name for my first name! <_<

That is all.

CanadaThe IRS/CRA Income Tax Thread
Just making sure I have this straight, because I've read the instructions but it seriously seems like cheating!! BTW, I've always done my taxes by hand, not using any program, just the instructions. My husband has an SSN and we're married filing jointly. We can elect to have him treated as a resident alien for all of 2010. And using the 2555-EZ exclude all of his foreign-earned income, which is all of his income, as it's been taxed by Canada. AND I can file the Schedule M, "Making Work Pay", because I've earned an appropriate amount of income in the US for that. And because we're married filing jointly, we get the $800 credit, rather than me getting the $400 as the only one with US income. :wow:

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsOh gleh.. forgot to include two items in frontloaded I-129F
This is just a personal whine post, feel free to ignore. :innocent:

I know, frontloading isn't absolutely necessary, probably doesn't matter as much for Canada as for some countries, they don't ask for proof of ongoing relationship at all in the initial filing of the I-129F, but I did it, and I forgot to include two items that would probably be considered more relevant proof than some I did include, so I'm feeling momentarily very stupid for that!

I forgot to photocopy and include a birthday card and a handwritten letter (both handed in person, not mailed), both from him (alien fiance) to me (USC). D'oh!!! They were further down in the drawer below the pile I'd decided not to include in the initial packet. But I *did* intend to include them, and between the e-mails and screenshots and copies of written stuff from me to him, I just forgot. No, I'm not going to mail them now because they wouldn't likely get put with our case anyway. But gleh, am I feeling dumb!

I pretty much just want reassurance that it won't hurt our case if I photocopy more earlier stuff than I've already sent in, and include it with the packet I'm mailing my fiance after I get the NOA2. I'm afraid they'll be like, "why didn't she send these in the original packet?" and think something was amiss? But it was an honest mistake, in my eagerness to get this process started so we can be together again (he left on the 6th... I wanted to mail it on the 7th but ended up mailing it on the 9th after receiving a digital photo of his return boarding pass) I didn't remember to look for and photocopy those. :(

I did include some e-mails from him to me that show he loves me too... I hope that will be taken as enough proof... we rarely hand-write anything to each other anyway, since e-mail and MSN are faster, and it's been over a year and 3 months since we've gone a day without speaking on Ventrilo, not counting the time his cable and internet were out. X)
