K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsWhere the heck is my NOA2
My mind is a mess.
Ever since I started seeing people with NOA1s in May getting approved, I have been glued to Igor's list and the USCIS status page like a magnet.

Its having a detrimental effect on me. It is testing my patience so badly.
I'm having trouble concentrating on anything else. I am longing to get this petition approved so that we can move on to the next stage at the embassy and then get my fiancee here.
It is frustrating beyond imagination and I just don't know how long I can go on being unnerved like this.

VSC: I filed my petition and gave you all the info you need to approve my petition. Its all in there. All you need to do is look at it.
PLEASE LOOK AT IT!

End Rant.

I keep telling myself to hang in there and that its just around the corner. If not today, then tomorrow. The collection of gray on my head has significantly increased since starting this process.
Please restore some sanity and bring things back to reality for me VSC. Kindly approve my petition.

Sorry for the open-ended rant.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsMumbai Consulate K1 visa 221g given
Its hard to decipher from your original post who actually filed the I-129F and who is the Indian Citizen. Seems like your fiancee is the indian citizen and you are the US citizen who filed.
So you apparently lived in India for over 12 months with your Indian fiancee and didn't get married? SOrry I'm not judging you, I'm just playing devil's advocate (interviewing officer).

There are many redflags here:
1. age gap
2. religious difference
3. fact that you two lived together for over a year

If they ask for more proof, just give them what they want. But you should have been prepared for AP since the get go with your circumstances.
If I was in your shoes, I would have expected AP as well.

I do wish you the best of luck.
Please do keep us posted.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsApril 2011 Filers

Vermont Service Center recieved our I-129F petition on April 26, 2011. It is now September 3, 2011 and still no NOA2 as of yet. I know labor day weekend may slow the process, but seeing everyone getting their NOA2 (even some May 2011 filers) is seriously making me worried and haven't slept well these past few days. I hope and pray that our NOA2 will be here in the next few days... sigh

Wow yours was the same NOA1 date as mine. Mine kept on saying April 26th on the USCIS website, but Notice Date on the hardcopy was Apr 27.
I just received the NOA2 Hardcopy on Saturday.

I'm sure yours is close to being adjudicated, hang in there my friend.

I am just seeing everyone's reply congrats to all your you who are moving already! I pray our day will be soon but so far no NOA2 in sight!

Yeah i am in the same boat as you...
I don't know what is going on... maybe people at VJ who have had their petitions approved are out celebrating [edit: without updating their VJ timeline] or maybe things have just slowed down at VSC (it is frustrating)...

And here in the US, labor day is approaching so I am expecting slowdown in the week after as well because employees will be taking time off I'm sure.

Not cool man... not cool...

Chigs--Welcome to the April filers thread and hope to hear more from you.

JessNZ--Humongous congrats on NOA2 receipt Wow!! Glad to hear the exciting news!!!!

--RK and Inday

Thanks RK and Inday.
It definitely makes me glad to see that the VSC has picked up. At the time when I originally filed my petition, I was so morose thinking that there was no way our petition would be approved in 5 months. 6/7 months looked more like a probably time frame to go from NOA1 to NOA2.
Given the recent pace of the VSC, even 4 months seems like a possibility.
Ami and I are planning a December wedding in New York, hopefully things will work out to our liking.

And finally, its definitely good to be in the midst of all the filers who filed around my time. A very warm hello to all April filers from Ami and myself.

Cheers,

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresPolice Certificate Question
Just to shed some light, these things are also required for the K1 visa and here is a discussion that I was part of on the K1 Visa Forum.
I think the norm is that one needs a police clearance certificate first, once that is obtained, one can use it to obtain the passport clearance certificate.

Hope this helps.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresReceipt Number

Thanks everyone, this discussion is very useful. My husband has just filed the I-130 and received an email from USCIS, stating that our I-797 would be on its way with the official receipt number. At least, we'll have some idea of what it means.

Lovemad,

Since the change in the receipt number convention, it seems we are still in the process of figuring out what the sequence really means. If your hubby said that he has received the email, then that email contains the receipt number already.

I hope someone can actually chime in about the sequence of digits and their significance because as I said, there's a lot of whackiness in the "ordering" of these numbers and their chronological history on USCIS. I should really stop querying the USCIS website.

Chigs
Ami&ChigsMaleIndia2011-08-25 18:29:00
IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresReceipt Number
Yeah there is all kinds of whackiness here.
Mine is EAC119019xxxx and my NOA1 is 04-27-2011.
Checking a few values around mine I'm seeing "acceptance" and "initial review" around mine.

But... and here's the kicker...
I checked a few receipt numbers beyond mine (assume for the purpose of argument that mine ends in 4208, and I checked all the ended in 4209 all the way to 4249), some of the initial review dates seem to be "Mar 25, 2011" which bothers me...
Why? because when I submitted my packet, it was NOA1'd in 1 day because i sent expedited and it was touched a couple of days later.
I would assume that the sequence of digits after mine would have an NOA1 date sometime after mine, but they do not.

The numbering sequence is a little whacky.

Hope someone knows a little bit more

(Apologies for bringing back a thread from the dead)

Also,
I am not sure what you mean by backlogged.
Just submit your packet 3 as soon as Dept of State (call the DoS number) tells you that your Packet 3 is issued.
Your interview date will be within 1 month of your submission, as long as you don't end up submitting your Packet 3 in the last 2-3 days of the month.

My case for CR1 visa got approved, I am wondering how many months I have to wait for interview date and getting visa!

Posted Image

I read this and went into a recursive/endless loop in my brain... How is a visa approved YET you're waiting for an interview date for the visa. Like a Catch22...
Your PETITION was approved... NOT the VISA.

Now that that's out of the way, it takes a month to month and a half at NVC, and after all the support documentation/passport/fees, etc are taken care of, you will have an interview date assigned by the NVC at the Consulate that serves the beneficiary's location of residence.
I would say about 2+ months atleast.

Thanks,
Chigs

PS. Please come to terms with the actual terms such as "petition" vs. "visa" as there are separate processes involving both.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresG325A question for K-1 Visa

Ok first part you have right you put her 2 addresses in last 5 years correct.
Next question for the 1 year you out where she is living now.
On your form in the Alien number section yes you put your alien number as you are not USC by birth.
Even though you have not lived there for the past 17 years you did live there for more than one year so you put your address where you lived before you came to the USA. 92-93 yup

Okay thanks liz16 and barbara J, you have been very helpful.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresG325A question for K-1 Visa
Hi All,

I am US based citizen and I recently got engaged to my fiancee in India and have decided to file the I-129F (K1 Visa).
I got a bit confused about the G325A form which asks for several residential addresses.
Firstly, she has two home addresses in the past 5 years which is easy for me to enter in the "Applicant's residence last five years. List present address first."

Then it goes on to "Applicant's last address outside the United States of more than 1 year"

This confuses me because she has never stepped foot in the US and won't be doing so before the VISA is approved, so all her addresses are outside addresses listed in the previous question.

Question1. So should I repeat her current address in India? or is it okay to say "N/A".

Question2. Since I am a US Citizen, i looked at my Naturalization certificate, and it states I have an Alien Number (A Number) from the times when I was a green card holder. Am I supposed to reference that number on my version of the G325A? I would think that now that I am a citizen, this number wouldn't apply but I am just trying to cover my basis?

Question3. Also on the G325A for myself, the question regarding overseas address for more than 1 year. I haven't lived in India since 1993. So Am i supposed to put that address in there from 1992 to 1993? sounds like an overkill considering I have been living in the USA for the last 17+ years.

Any help will be appreciated.

thanks.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedurespassport photo issue for G325A on the K1
I just looked at the pics my fiancée sent me and it seems they are proper 2 in. x 2in. in size.
However, I examined them a bit carefully and noticed that her face looked a bit bigger than it should have (as in its a tad bit closer).
The guidelines say that the top of her head to the chin should measure between 1 and 1-3/8 in height.
Her face measures about 1.5 inches which is a bit larger than it should.

The thing is that she got this done via a shop specializing passport photos so everything is all good.

Any recommendations?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 Visa needs both sides of my Certificate of Naturalization?

I never sent the blank page (the back side of the certificate) but then I sent a copy of my U.S. passport also, and so the passport page copy and naturalization copy both prove your U.S. citizenship.

Good to hear. I am still going to take Anh Map's advice and send the back as well.
I too am sending each and every page of the passport to prove my arrival and departure. I apparently lost all my boarding passes in a housekeeping accident.
So I definitely need to send copies of the passport, emails with the etickets from both my trips and credit card statements for the charges of the tickets.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 Visa needs both sides of my Certificate of Naturalization?
Hi All,

I was going through the I-129F instructions which asks the following of me (the petitioner):

"If you were naturalized, give USCIS a copy, front and back, of your original Certificate of Naturalization."

The thing is that there is nothing on the back side to copy!!!
The only thing that I can see is the imprint of signature of the commissioner of immigration and naturalization...
Can anyone back me up on this.

Have people actually made a copy of the back as well when sending their I-129F petitions?

Thx.

Tim/Mav gets a little confused at times when posting. The letter of intent is all you need for 129f petition. Stating how you met and that you will be marrying within 90 days yadaydayada. Ours was really simple, was how we met how our romance started and our times of visiting each other and so on and where we planned to get married. There is no letter of intent and then a letter free to marry WTH? Sorry you are so confused by all this. You are right the 325 did not need to be notarized but hey you did and thats cool. Neither does the letter of intent need to be notarized either. What you have is fine I would reiterate to cut the photos back though is all

@barbara J:

I think Tim/Mav is using the terms interchangeably which is causing confusion.

Yes you need a letter of intent (stating you both are free to marry) at the petition phase, but they do not have to be notarized. Hope that helps.

Indeed, it helps. Thanks for clarifying.

The 325 is not needed to be Notorized but Attourneys always say the Letter of Intent by the petitioner is Not required but a plus when Notorized. (I don't know why, I had mine Notorized.) My Attourney said: It would be better if I did.
I might be wrong, but you said One Passport 2x2 picture. I thought it was 2 pictures.
I did not see in your Petition: (although it maynot apply) Free to Marry on each P/B for the 129-F. As Far as what you listed. (It's required anyway with your petition)
Other than that, you look like you did a good job with the Application.
Good Luck to you...

Tim/Mav you confused me...
I know that notarizing the G325A is not a requirement.
The letter of intent for me and my fiancee basically states that we are both legally free to marry and that we intent to marry each other within the 90 days of her arrival in the united states. Why the difference between "Letter of Intent" and "Free to Marry." Whats more confusing is that you first state it may not apply then at the end of the statement you mention "It's required anyway with your petition."
You totally lost me with that.

Please clarify.

Yeah I am pretty sure you need 2 passport pics each not just one. And leave the pictures (book) not needed now all they want is to know that you have met in the last 2 years and a letter of intent. They wont even look at that stuff. A few pics like 3-5 and that's it is all we sent. And as mentioned before make sure the engagement pics don't look like wedding photos.

@Barbara J:
This is coming straight out of the instructions for the I-129F. I know you're trying to help but you just confused the heck out of me.

Give USCIS a passport-style color photograph of yourself and a passport-style color photograph of your fiancé(e), with both photos taken within 30 days of the date of filing this petition. The photos must have a white background, be glossy, un-retouched and not mounted. The dimension of the full frontal facial image of you and your fiancé(e) in separate photos should be about one inch from your chin to the top of your hair. Using a pencil or felt pen, lightly print the name (and Alien Registration Number, if known) on the back of each photograph.

No where in here does it state two photos.

Just something small.. you have pictures from your engagement ceremony / party.. these - in no way - look like wedding pictures, right?

Well our engagement ceremony was pretty lavish, i was wearing a suit and she was wearing something traditional.
they can be mistaken for wedding pics, infact many of my facebook friends mistook them for wedding pics and started congratulating me thinking that I got married.
I'm only printing pics in which we're putting the ring on each other's ring finger, some snaps with all our parents lined up...
It really was a big function, but the truth is that it was simply an engagement ceremony.
even the invitation card printed shows it was was just that.

The Letters of Intent to Marry and the G325A Form...Do they have to be notorized? I dont remember reading on the guide that it did. Just wondering. Thanks

No, they do not require any notarization. We just had our letters of intent notarized because I'm going by the example of a friend of mine.
He did not receive any RFE.

I would not notarize the G325A if I were you.

cchhat01

USCIS won't read your 'book' of relationship history. Whether or not that equates to going overboard or not - guess that is for you to decide.

Save the book for the interview.

Ok. I think I will stick to just the emails and facebook messages to prove history.
call records can come later at the interview. that should about do it.

Here is what my I-129F cover sheet looks like:

- Enclosed Check $340
- G1145 Electronic Notification
- I-129F Form
- I-129F Supplemental Sheet #1 (for fiancée's address)
- I-129F Supplemental Sheet #2 (for Question 18 describing the circumstances under which we met).
- Front and Back of Certificate of Naturalization
- My Letter of Intent (notarized in USA)
- Her Letter of Intent (notarized in India as she has never set foot in the USA)
- My G325A form
- Supplemental attachment to G325A (for my overseas Address before i was naturalized)
- my 2x2 photo (in ziploc bag, bag stapled to blank sheet of paper)
- Her G325A form
- Supplemental attachment to G325A (for her residence address and work addresses)
- her 2x2 photo (in ziploc bag, bag stapled to blank sheet of paper)

Proof of having met:
- my airline e-tickets from Nov-Dec 2010
- my airline e-tickets from Mar 2011
- credit card statements showing charges and departure dates for the above trips
- bank statement showing overseas ATM withdrawal from my debit card
- passport (all pages), indicating arrival/exit date stamps from my two trips
- printable boarding pass for my return trip from my mar 2011 trip (i lost all my boarding passes)
- pictures from the first visit
- pictures from our mar 2011 engagement ceremony
- invitation card for our engagement ceremony

proof of ongoing relationship
- facebook messages (one original message chain, 3 pages)
- gmail (9 email chains, 12 pages)
- google voice (10 sms messages, 3 pages)
- phone call records from rebtel (cheap rates to india) (20 pages since oct 2010 to present day)
- phone call records from itelfone (voip service which includes unlimited india calling) (21 pages since dec 2010 to present day)
- copy of handwritten letter by my fiancée (4 pages)

the proof of ongoing relationship itself prints out to a huge book.
I think there is ample proof here in my support but im thinking is this all necessary... I dont want to overburden the USCIS with things to look at (and delay the process).

So I will ask again... Am I going overboard with my petition.

oooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhh
I have an alien reg number because I was naturalized...
I haven't put it on all the sheets...
I have put my name on each sheet of paper and signed it (i-129f supplemental sheets, etc).

I didn't realize this was in the instructions to put the alien number on all sheets.
I have sent a huge book and it was simply not feasible to sign each and every one of them.
I divided each and every document in sections. Wherever it was appropriate (for example in the airline tickets section), i put a small cover sheet detailing what is included and how many pages. It was necesasry because i traveled to my fiancee's country multiple times and i found it to be more organized when things are listed out upfront in each section. similarly for my passport. I included all my pages (not to prove citizenship, for that i used my naturalization certificate), however only 3 pages applied to stamps from the visited country's airport immigration. So I created a cover sheet, added a table format indicating which trip date is located on which page, etc. signed and dated it... you get the idea...

And I signed and dated each and every one of those sheets.
Oh well, I hope this doesn't cost me an RFE for not putting my Alien Number everywhere... that would be a bummer!!!

The Check is on top of everything, with the G1145 just below it.
Both the check and G1145 are not fastened into the packet, just attached via paper clips.

Anyone disagree with this approach. I don't want to see them "Lose" my check by any means.

Any ideas?

Thanks

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat date to put on the check

No problem with dating it with the current date. Just make sure its this year. Somebody on here had the whole packet sent back cause they wrote 2010 on the check.

Argh I just ended up putting 04/08/2011...
Okay I get it that it should be today's date.

But is it a problem if it is a couple of weeks in the past?

thanks

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat date to put on the check
Hi All,

I have compiled my I-129F packet to send to the USCIS.
All my evidence, printouts, etc has a date of 04/08/2011.

I haven't dated the check yet.

Is it okay to backdate the check to 04/08/2011 and not date it with 04/25/2011.
I don't want to get an RFE for something as silly as the date on the check.

Please advise.

thanks.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureshow to put it all together- K1

Can someone lead me to a post regarding how to put the K-1 packet together? I.e. I see the guide has an order it should be put in. Should I just put all 300+ sheets one behind the other, paperclipping certain items or did people use clamps etc.

Also, it says to put passport sized photo in a ziplock bag and attach to a sheet of paper and then put that sheet of paper behing G325a. Attach how to a sheet of paper.... with a stapler or paperclip?

1 passport photo each, correct?

Thanks

I sent mine using the ACCO fasteners. They are two hole punched at the top and they are approved by the USCIS.
They go through your file, and flip the pages up, not sideways.

I put the passport photos for myself and my fiancee in a separate ziploc bag. i attached them by stapling the ziploc bag (not the pics) to a sheet of paper and placed that paper behind each of our g325a forms, respectively.
hope it helps.
