CanadaQuick Packet 3 Question (Montreal)
We're getting ready to return Packet 3 to Montreal. The letter says to send them the following:

Checklist
DS-156
DS-156K
DS-160 (confirmation receipt)

Doesn't say anything in the letter about sending them supporting documentation. But on the actual DS-156K form, it says that that particular form must be submitted with Birth Certificate, Police Certificate, supporting evidence, and a number of other things.

So does anyone know whether or not we're supposed to include all of that stuff in with the Packet 3?

CanadaTiming of physical (Montreal)
We just returned our Packet 3 and now the next waiting game begins!

We are thinking of waiting to schedule the physical until after we receive the interview date so we can do it just a day or two before the actual interview - so we don't have to make an extra trip to Montreal.

Anyone think this is a bad idea? Sounds like Medisys is pretty easy to schedule so I'm thinking we shouldn't have any problems at all.

CanadaAdvice on getting Montreal to let us pick up our visa?
My fiancee has her K1 interview in Montreal on Friday and I'll be attending with her. We want to return to the USA together on Monday after picking up the visa at the embassy, so that I can get back to work. Obviously I'm hoping we can convince them to let us pick it up instead of mailing it. If not, then I'll need to return to the USA to go to work, then come back on Thursday or Friday (whenever she receives the visa in the mail).

When I've emailed them they said that they only allow pickups by people with valid work visas in the USA. Does anyone know if they allow next-day pickups on a case by case basis, or is it a hard and fast rule?

Hrrm.. I emailed the consulate to ask if the passport did indeed have to be valid for 1 year after the interview (I thought it was 6 months and my fiancee's passport expires in July 2010).

They said yes, we should get it renewed, and re-submit the paperwork with the new passport #.

I'm leaning towards not following that advice, and just bringing the new passport and updated forms to the interview. I've already been told that I am on the "waiting list" for an interview and I get the feeling that resubmitting paperwork to the consulate has the potential of screwing things up (i.e. them "resetting" our case).

Any thoughts?

Just called DOS for the first time and spoke to a nice lady who told me that my fiancee "qualified for an interview" on October 2 and our interview will most likely be scheduled in "November for December, or December for January." She said that most scheduling gets done in the first week of the month, so I should call the DOS again at the end of the 1st week of November to see if we've been scheduled.

A bit more promising than I originally thought.. hope she knows what she's talking about! star_smile.gif

OK so we're flying a little blind here, with no clue about the last few people to get interviews! Ahh! OK well I do know that there is at least one person in the past 6 months who submitted their P3 to Montreal and then got an interview date just about a month later.. so I'm going to hold out some hope that this thing can actually get done in 2009 for me and my fiancee!! smile.gif

Tina, my gut is 95%+ sure that you're going to be just fine smile.gif They may not respond to you before you get the Packet 3 (looks like they are often taking over a week to respond to emails).. if they don't, don't wait, just send what you have. We just sent ours off today.. maybe we'll see you in Montreal! Chris

Hopefully it won't be a big deal, since it seems like a redundant step. But it the completed DS-160 application is now specified on the list of items to return with your Packet 3. Maybe you should e-mail the consulate about it.

Sorry that's not true apparently. I just mailed in my Packet 3 today, and it specifically asks you to return the DS-160 application and the DS-160 confirmation. After you fill out the DS-160 online, it gives you the opportunity to print both. Not sure if it's a deal-breaker but that's what it asks for.

Hey there - just got my packet 3 and here is what we need to return immediately:

The forms are all available at http://travel.state....forms_1342.html so you can get a head start now.

And the DS-160 is at https://ceac.state.gov/genniv but you may want to wait till you get the Packet 3 before you fill that out.

Hey! sorry about the RFE!
but I wanted to let you know that I went to the bank and asked them for a letter stating both of our names. The letter said something like "Mr. and Mrs. H. have had an active joined account with us since ... until todays date" and they happily accepted that. Maybe that helps a bit. I hope they sort it out quick!

The one page income tax return is missing the signature page and only represents one year of your marriage. The one page bank statement is missing the activity pages and only represents one month of your marriage. The evidence submitted does not establish, in sufficient detail, joint ownership of your assets, joint responsibility for liabilities, and an active commingling of finances for the duration of your marriage. Supporting documentation must cover as much of the marital period as possible, and must also indicate joint financial responsibility and joint residency for that same time period."

Wow, and I thought I did such a great job with my packet! I guess I'll have to send the entire tax return and a whole bunch more bank statements. Not even sure what else I'd include on the financial front.

Well, on the bright side, looks like VSC is finally up to Feb 2011!

The whole problem with this thread is that people are trying to DISCOURAGE someone from making an attempt to express displeasure with the K1 process. Why in the world would anyone on THIS board want to DISCOURAGE someone from doing that? Does anyone here honestly think that the process absolutely CAN'T be improved in any way? And I understand that many of you have "given up" and think that we just have to deal with it (mostly people who have been on this board for a long, long time) - but do you really think that EVERYONE should feel that way?

Why is everyone shooting him down? None of us is happy with the way this process is handled and that VSC is so far behind CSC. If he wants to try to organize a letter-writing campaign, why discourage him? Are we so beaten down by "the man" that we believe that this process is actually satisfactory? In this day and age and with the technology available to us, NOTHING should take as long as this does.

Hmm.. we just realized that if we get our NOA2 in September, and our interview in November (fingers crossed!!), and if she came over here right away, that she wouldn't be able to visit home for Christmas! Anyone else consider that yet? I guess we'll be having her family visit for a few days around the holidays. smile.gif (At least, I certainly HOPE we have that problem and we're not still waiting!!!)
