IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresHelp me understand E.P. and online forms

Ok, I've completed my DS-261 online paid my AOS and IV bills online. (Actually, the IV is still showing In Process but I checked my bank and the payment cleared this morning but the DS-260 is still grayed out).

So, the next step (?) is to do the DS-260 online (when it's eventually available) and then SNAIL MAIL the I-864EZ and pertinent documents i.e. marriage certificate, beneficiary's birth certicates, police certificate, passport photos, etc. to the NVC.

Just to be clear, I don't have the option to scan and send the documents, right?
I have to go the snail mail route since we will be using the Lima, Peru consulate.

Yes, you're right, you do NOT have the option to do EP as listed here at the table at the bottom: http://travel.state..../info_5165.html So you have to snail mail your packages.

Make sure the I-864 package is separated in some way from the DS-260 documents as they are two different packages.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresE-Filing GUZ

This is stupid but, how or what would I say to the Operator. "Here is my email, so NVC can send me the next package." Like that or do I have to say something before hand so she/he understand why I am giving my email over the phone?

Side Note:
I was able to log in and pay my AOS fee of $88bucks, and just sent my OPTIN too, and now waiting for my IV fee to pop up.

Just tell the operator you'd like to give the email addresses of the beneficiary and petitioner. Then they'll ask you to spell it for each one and that's it.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresE-Filing GUZ

What's the purpose of calling the NVC live operator and telling them the petitioner and the beneficiary email. It's the OPTIN e-file the same thing? Because it ask for the body email on the e-file opt in for email and birthday etc.

By giving your email addresses to an operator, you'll receive all packages by email instead of snail mail. Much faster. OPTIN is not the same thing as giving the email addresses to an operator.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresE-Filing GUZ

This is concerning e-filing.

I just received my NVC case number and my Invoice Identification Number when do I pay the AOS and IV Application fee online?

I attempted to pay today and instead it gave me this notices "Please be advised that the case that you have attempted to access is not eligible for further processing by the NVC at this time. Please click on the Contact...if you believe that you have received this message in error."

My NVC case number was issue just last Friday the 18 of February. Am I correct in assuming that the NVC is not yet ready for me to pay them.

My embassy is in GUZ so e-filing is possible there. Also I will be submitting my OPTIN for electronic filing tonight.

Could it be that I have not opt in e-file yet, I thought it didn't matter if I did or not for paying fee?

Reply will be helpful. Maybe I'm jump to quick at this...

It can take a day or two for the fees to appear and for you to be able to log in. Just keep checking, you should be able to log in soon and pay fees once they're available.

Sending the optin email won't affect you being able to pay fees or not.

Please read: http://www.visajourn...onic_Processing It might be of some help for you.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresG-325A - Same info on both forms?
If it's like the spousal visa, then your fiancee fills out one form with all her info and signs it and then you fill out the second form with all of your info and you sign it. So both forms will NOT have the same info.

Welcome to VisaJourney! ^_^

Not all of those costs apply to everyone though. For me the only thing that applies in your list would be plane tickets my husband pays to come visit me in Montreal. But yes, I do understand that besides the cost of forms, there are many other costs to consider.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTotal cost
For the IR-1/CR-1 fees, the Affidivit of Support is no longer $70, but now $88. And the Immigrant Visa Application fee is no longer $400, but $404. I believe these changed in July this year.

Also, as of November 23rd, 2010, the I-130 (initial petition) is going to go up to $420 and the I-751 (to remove conditions) is going up to $590.

And then there's the optional N-400 (application to be a US citizen) which will cost $680 as of November 23.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSkype as proof of relationship

I know it maybe to early in the process to worry about this, but it gives me a project to do while waiting for uscis. As far as proof of relationship I have evidence of two visits, skype, some yahoo, some emails (not many), and some call logs. We have been together for a year now. My concern is we talk everynight on skype together, but not all is type. We use mic alot so sometimes the conversations if read dont always appear to make sense. Sometimes we will type somethings, sometimes we talk. I also wanted to know about editing a conversation that is all type? I was going to copy and paste the skype onto word program then print out(definately looking to see if anyone has easier way) I also do not know how many to print out. I am thinking they dont want a years worth of nightly skype chats. I am hoping with all the communication logs I have and of course the boarding pass, hotel reservations from when I visted him in this year will be enough evidence of an ongoing relationship. I know I might be jumping the gun, but I think I need to find something to keep my mind occupied until my next visit and the uscis decision.

Thanks

Check this thread out: http://www.visajourn...d-chat-records/

The OP attached two programs in the first post that I use. The logview program will show you the chat logs of your entire Skype history. The second program, CallExporter, will show a log of date, time, length of every Skype call you have made. I shall be using this once I get to the interview stage. I won't be printing out every single last page, but just one page for each month just to show an ongoing relationship.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresunable to use phone sms receipt to check on the status

Saylin,

I got my EAC number last Monday, but when I entered that number, the site came back with:

Your case can not be found at this time in My Case Status. Please check your receipt number and try again. If you need further assistance, please call the National Customer Service Center at 1.800.375.5283.

I called USCIS, and got elevated to tier 2 support. They confirmed that I am in their system, just that the website database has not been updated. Well, I have been trying everyday, but I'm still getting the same response from the website.

Not sure if I am unique or if others are getting the same response.

By the way, why do I have an EAC number when you guys have WAC numbers?

Thank you.

WAC numbers are those with petitions sent to the California Service Center. Since yours is an EAC number, that means your petition got sent to the Vermont Service Center.

I have heard of some cases where people couldn't log on to the USCIS website with their receipt number. Their system isn't perfect and unfortunately there are a handful of people that can't log in because of their imperfect system. I would suggest calling USCIS again, once this week and again next week if you still can't log in. Just remember, being unable to log in doesn't change anything with your case since it's been confirmed your case was received and in the system. Besides the fact you can't obsessively log in and check your status, there's nothing to worry about.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresG-1145

The instructions at the bottom of G-1145 state, "Complete this form and clip it on top of the first page of your immigration form(s)"

Should i clip it to the Cover sheet, which will be the first page they see.. or clip it to the I-129F, which will be the first "form" they see ?

Also i am using a money order, as i do not write checks.. debit card only user.
Should i attache the money order to anything or just put it in the package ?

We had the G-1145 at the very top with the check behind it and then the cover letter.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNot enough space for long names. What to do?

Hello!

I have a very long name and so is he. It says there that if the space isn't enough then I'll have to just put it on a separate sheet. Should it be handwritten or typed? Can I just fill the form with a black pen since its only our names that needs more space and the rest will be typed? What's the best thing to do?

You can type it all up and then just handwrite the names in after it's printed.

I have to fill out a form later, and in one question, there's not enough space, so I'll have it all typed up and then just handwrite in my answer for that one question. A lot of people do this.

Typing up a name on an additional sheet, IMO, would be more confusing (more paper for them to go through) than just simply writing it in by hand.

Thanks! That's why I was confused because I have seen so many different answers.
The photos are probably 1 and 3/4 inch not 2. So I'll use them for USCIS and then try to get correct sized ones for the Embassy.

So does anyone have suggestions of how to find 2x2 ones in Mali?! Every photo place we've been to, they've been so much smaller!

You don't necessarily need to get them taken somewhere. If you can take the picture yourself and upload it to this website http://www.epassportphoto.com/, it will help crop the picture for you, so it's 2" x 2". Then you can print it out yourself if you have the special paper or bring it somewhere that can print photos. It's really easy to do, plus you don't have to pay crazy prices for just two pictures. If you need more than two, then just print more.

Someone else on VJ successfully used this website and recommended it in another thread about passport-style pictures. I'll be using this website myself once I need to submit more pictures.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSkype as proof of communication?

Mark and I Skype every day, sometimes up to 4 times and I wanted to use that as proof of our relationship in the event that we get an RFE and to add to the info I'll bring to the interview.

I heard that there was a way to print out a list of Skype sessions showing date, time and length but I can't seem to figure out how to do it. Does anyone know how this is done?

Thx. :luv:

I found a great program called Skype Call Exporter. You can find it mentioned here: http://www.visajourn...d-chat-records/ It shows who you're calling, how long the call was, what date, etc.

There's also another program in that thread in the first post called Skype LogView which shows your ENTIRE chat history.

They're both very useful programs :D

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK-1 and electronic processing

Got my NOA2 2 weeks ago (by the way, the case number still shows processing RFE on uscis.gov). NVC does not recognize the USCIS case number on the AVR yet.

As I understand it, to opt in to electronic processing, I have my finace fill out, sign and scan the DS-3032, and email it is. Is that about right?

You're thinking of IR-1/CR-1 visas. K1 visa applicants don't do anything in NVC.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTracking passport post-interview

So my K-1 visa was approved last friday (yay!), and as far the DOS can tell me, it has been printed. They cannot tell if it has shipped, or what my waybill # might be, or when I might expect it at the nearest DHL office. DHL will not tell me any information without te waybill #. Online there is still no update with a waybill # on the US-visa site. So my question is: Has anyone found a way to find out their waybill number before it was online?

I live in Vancouver BC Canada, near the consulate where I had the interview, and will be driving out to Abbotsford (an hour away) to pick up the package as soon as it arrives. As soon as I have the package I will be crossing into the States to Seattle that day (I've already packed up, moved some stuff down, quit my job, and need to help wedding planning for july 3rd), so any way of tracking to figure out what day that might be would save a lot of headache for me. if anyone has any tips, that would be amazing! Thanks

Also, if anyone knows how to speak to an operator at the Vancouver consulate (if at all possible), that would be great, as the number I dial just takes me through prerecorded messages, and 0 just repeats those.

The CSC site usually updates slower than the DHL site. So I'd suggest taking the 7 digit reference number on CSC and input it on DHL.ca. It'll be much more up to date. And once the waybill number is available, it will be linked to that 7 digit reference number.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat are the DOS opening times?

As the title states really, are they open at weekends? I have looked through the forums but can't find the answer.

Thank you!

The DOS is not open on the weekends, just like NVC isn't. If I remember correctly, DOS is open Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 5pm.

The automated system is 24 hours (7 days/week) - to speak to someone in person it's Mon-Fri 7:30AM to 12:Midnight (EST) and government holidays apply (of course). According to their recorded message. 603.334.0700

The OP was asking about DOS, not NVC.

At the top of VisaJourney, there's a tab called 'Embassy Info'. Or should he even list his high school? Thanks again guys. I hope you all are coming along ........ finding your answers! *smile*

When I was filling out the DS-230 online (DS-260, only available to certain countries), they have small instructions next to each box. When it came to the education question, they said they wanted any high school, college, university, graduate school, doctoral program, or a vocational program. So yes, start with high school.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresHow accurate is the USCIS numbering system

Well, I have been noticing that some VJers with my same NOA1 date are starting to get approved. I checked the USCIS site and mine is still in initial review. My number is EAC******40. I notice that EAC*****36 was approved yesterday. EAC*****37 through mine (all I129F petitions) have not been approved or touched. I wonder if we are getting worked on soon?

Please remember that petitions are approved randomly, not in the order of USCIS numbers. It all depends on whose desk your petition lands on and whether the officer is fast and efficient.

I have a friend who had the same NOA1 date as me. She got approved at the end of November while my NOA2 only arrived 2 months later.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPort of Entry

Your port of entry is the first place you land when entering the US. Where that city is will be up to you.

It doesnt matter...like stated above it is just the first US land you touch down on. My wife's POE was Guam and she did customs in Hawaii before getting to Anchorage. I know the paperwork asks what your POE will be, but it can change.

Please keep in mind, this is not necessarily true. There are a few places around the world in which you can do pre-clearance. An example: the airport in Montreal, Canada has pre-clearance, so you go through customs before even flying out to the US.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPassport Photo Secret

if your good in photoshop get 1 passport photo made and have it put on CD or flash drive take the file home and open it with photoshop or even MS Paint. Start a new project with a 4x6 canvas size and copy paste the 2x2 passport image onto the canvas, you can fit 6 2x2 passport photos in 1 4x6 now you can save the 4x6 and take that to the local shop to have printed as a normal photo avoiding the expensive costs of having passport photos made. There the exact same only without the additional cost, thats what i did :P.

Our K-1 used a total of 12 passport photos all up and they normally cost 7 bucks a pair here in the U.S as opposed to 26 cent prints for a 4x4 at Walgreens or CVS <---local drugstores here

A simpler way, without even using Photoshop or cropping yourself, is using this site: http://www.epassportphoto.com/ You can even upload your own picture that you took (saving the money of having a picture done!). Just make sure if you take your own picture that you follow the photo guidelines found here: http://travel.state....toreq_5334.html. This is the site I used and didn't spend a dime :)

And yes, it's a great site. Stumbled upon it here on VJ last year and saved me from spending $30 like I did for our I-130 submission. Photos for NVC, the medical, and the interview were completely free because of the site :)

Excellent! I'm really glad I read this post as I'm sure I will be having the exact same issue when I get my fiance's passport photo.

See link:

To a degree. But you said there was only a difference of 1/8 of an inch. I don't think they're that picky. As long as it's 2 x 2 and their face is visible and everything, then you should be fine.

Thanks for your responses so far. I was able find another place that printed the photo and said they did it to US standards, but when I got home and measured it I'm not sure it is. From the very top of the head to the bottom of the chin is nearly 1 4/8ths inches. The standards say this measurement should be 1 3/8ths. Do you think it's unacceptable?

As long as the entire picture is 2 x 2, that's all that really matters for dimensions.

My fiance in India sent me a digital copy of his passport photo. When I took it to have it printed I ran into some problems. The photo center does not have an India template so couldn't print it to India standards and the photo does not fit US standards. This left me questioning who's standards it should fit, India or the US? If India, how do I get it printed to their standards?

Kim

Upload the picture here: http://www.epassportphoto.com/. Choose the US 2 x 2 standard. There will then be a cropping tool to make the picture 2 x 2. You can then either print it out yourself if you have picture paper, or you can bring it to a pharmacy or something to print it out yourself for a low cost.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNone OR "N/A" Please help

Hello All Vjers : :D !!!!!

I am just about to fill my DS 230 form( part 1 ). It is instructed on the form to use "N/A" (NOT APPLICABLE) wherever required but as mentioned on the website it is clearly said please use "none" or "never" wherever required. For example
Do you have any children :- Am I suppose to write "None" Or "N/a". I am confused as to what is wrong and what is right ?? Secondly can I fill my DS 230 with a Black Pen! I just don't wish to make any silly mistake during my K1 process!! Any help will be appreciated!!

Thanks,
Ammy

Think of it this way, if the question is applicable to you, then the answer is none. If the question isn't applicable, then it's N/A. The question about having children is applicable, because you could have them, but you don't, so you should write 'none'.

Use N/A and black pen is fine.

I have to disagree. It should be 'none'. See my reason above.

You can email the DS-3032. Follow the template here: http://www.visajourn...il_DS-3032_form No need to scan or attach things.

The $88 is for the AOS fee. After it's paid, you can send the AOS package. The petitioner fills this out.

Egypt is not an eligible country for electronic processing, so you will have to snail mail both the AOS and IV packages. You cannot do email.

If you give your email addresses to an operator, then you'll receive all correspondence by email, but you will still have to snail mail your packages.

I know Yahoo chat has a message archive, but when I export the message and open it, it just has the text of the message and not the dates. Skype doesn't even have a message archive. What's the best way to present the chat messages for the interview? Should I just do a screen print of the message archive list? Then it has the dates of the chat and the time.

For Skype, there's two programs you can use to get the logs of calls and chats.

Look at post number 3 and 8 in this thread: http://www.visajourn...kype-chat-logs/ The first one (in 3) will give you a log of all the calls you've made. The second one (in 8) will give you a log of all the chats you've ever had.

I have updated my timeline a few times, and the changes show in the text area, but do not show on the boxes showing the progress. Can someone tell me what step I am missing?
Thank you.

If you look at the boxes at the top, the ones you're missing are 'NVC Receive' and 'Consulate Rec'. Once you fill in those on your timeline, then the boxes will get colored. And then when you get your interview date, update your timeline and the 'Interview' box will get filled in.

You have to remember to fill in the CORRECT ones, then the box areas at the top will be filled out.

You write your timeline under the signatory box.

OP is talking about the timeline, not the signature.
