Mexico, Latin & South AmericaDominican Packet 3 Confusion
That sounds a little weird. Try calling NVC instead of the Embassy, it is kind of useless. If your packet is already in SDO, it means you have a case number assigned already. The visa specialist at NVC will tell you your case number and maybe the interview date if you have one. If you don't, you can check the list of scheduled appointments when they post a new one.

There's no packet 3 in DR, they send packet 4 with all instructions and forms. But some people never get it (we didnt). So call NVC and find out what your case number is and start preparing!

I'm sending you a pm with some more info!

I think that if you dont get your packet you have to contact the embassy and they will tell you a date to go pick it up. That's what I've heard.

Yes, it happened to us! But don't worry, no big deal! All petitions go through NVC and then are forwarded to the Consulate. You can call NVC to confirm they received your case.

Good Luck (F)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsQUESTION: About Employment Authorization?
You apply for EAD to be able to work while your AOS is pending. Once you get your green card you can work.
But yes, if for some reason you still need to apply for EAD you can do it later. Just follow the filing instructions that come with the form.

Eck I got that too. I am taking a hiatus from this website, it is a great sit,e but contantly checking my status and the timeline and what other people are saying doesn't make the wait easier. I am going to focus on some other things and when I get the NOA2, I'll be back. Deuces!

You're totally right. Checking my timeline every five min doesn't make it any easier.

We were also given wrong information when we first called the visa specialist. I'd suggest calling again, maybe? But all the info can be found on the DOS and US Embassy in Santo Domingo web sites.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresgeneral questions...
Don't worry. You can show evidence of your marriage at the interview. Sending evidence with your packet is actually optional and they dont require it from you. But you will need it for your interview to prove it is not a fraudulent marriage.

Best wishes! :)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresImmigrant Visa Appointment
Making you go to the bank and pay the fee is just a way they have to collect the money. Its very common in DR to pay taxes, services, etc at a bank, but the bank doesnt do anything else about the process. It's just a service they offer to the consulate.

Before you enter your receipt number you see more steps: acceptance, initial review, RFE, review of RFE response, decision, etc etc. But when you enter your case number there's only like four steps. Thast's what I've noticed: it says different things before and after you enter your #.

You cant send a copy and the blue or black ink is not really a problem as long as they can distinguish the form is not a copy. We signed everything in blue ink because we didnt want them to think we sent copies of the forms.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan somple explains

The front line agents can submit a service request.

But they will tell you the system won't let them do it because it's "still within normal processing time" and to wait another xxx days. When we called, the front line agent said it was out normal processing time for 4 days but she couldn't put in a service request for us, that we should call after 20 days. But when we asked to speak to someone higher up, the officer was able to do it.
j and s fernandezFemaleDominican Republic2011-02-05 22:14:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan somple explains
It means that you call your service center to inquire about the status of your petition, since it is out of "normal processing time", and ask why they haven't taken any action on your case since xxxx (last update).

To do this you'll need to call your service center and after talking to representative ask to be to connected to a "higher level of customer service". They officer will put in a service request if your application has been in their system for more than 5 months.

Good luck!!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSDO embassy
The SDO consulate mails packet 4 to inform you of an interview and to give all the instructions you need. They'll probably post the interview dates for May by the end of this month, so keep checking. You might be surprised!!

You can also find the instructions and the forms the beneficiary will need on their page. It almost the same as the packet they will send.

http://santodomingo....structions.html

Again, keep checking the list of scheduled interviews and start preparing in the meantime. Good luck! :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSDO embassy
At this point what you do is check the list for scheduled interviews at the SDO Consulate to see if you have an interview date already. With the case number that the NVC rep gave you, you open the doc and type your case # in the search box. March and April are posted and the instructions are there :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat to bring to the interview?
Is it always good to be well-prepared. For K-1, the affidavit of support that is normally used is the I-134, but you may want to prepare both forms just in case they request it.

Also, bring enough evidence and organized everything for easy access. The interview is super fast, it all happens in 5 min or less once you're in front of a
CO. You don't have to go to the extremes about printing pictures or skype records, but if they start giving you a hard time you'll be happy to have solid evidence to show.

We were not asked for more evidence (CO only said if we had pictures we wanted to show) or the affidavit. BUT every case is DIFFERENT and every CO is also different. Some are very nice and even joke about the interview, others simply don't. I really think if you have a strong relationship (that bears almost 3,000 miles away from each other)and do things the right way, it just shows and everything goes well at the end.

Wish you the best of luck!! :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMedical Exam
Yes, for K-1 vaccinations are optional during the medical examination in DR, but they must be completed here in USA if the beneficiary does it that way. So before sending AOS, she'll a medical examination with a USCIS certified civil surgeon and she can get her shots.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNVC or direct to consulate??
Yea, some NOAs say that but your case was really sent to NVC and THEY will forward it to RIO. Don't worry, just call the visa specialist to get your case number. It was probably sent to your consulate already.

Oh! and try calling several times if you don't get an answer. Sometimes they tell you different things, so keep calling until you are sure you have the information you wanted.

Good luck! Things speed up now!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAffidavit of Support question
It is always good to provide as much evidence as you can't. And the affidavit of support is a very important part of the process, so prepare it carefully and provide the required supporting documentation. Also, a letter from the bank stating information about your account (for how long has it been opened, how much has been deposit, etc) will be helpful.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPapers for the intervieww.
Bank statements, pay stubs, tax returns and all the supporting documentation for the affidavit of support, NOA2 or a copy, your passport just in case the consul wants to see it, evidence of your relationship............ I might be missing some other things that the petitioner should bring, but I cant remember anything else. Let's see what other VJers have to say.

Good Luck! (F)

It can make your case only more complicated if you get married in DR while you still have something pending with USCIS. I can understand your frustration, but like gigi said do you really want to take the risk of waiting even longer to come to the US? I think it will just bring you guys more obstacles to overcome.
Try to put that anger and frustration behind so you and your fiance can come up with a realistic solution to this.

We wish the best of luck and hope you can solve this soon.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresInterview next week and i dont have 3 years tax transcripts
I don't think they would deny it if you have everything else and your mother's affidavit is complete too. My husband only had two years of tax transcripts but had a lot of support documentation for his and his father's affidavits. Sometimes they don't ask for the affidavit but you can't rely on that cause they might just ask for it, so prepare everything very carefully and have as much evidence as possible.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresRequest electronic packet 4?

thats the problem. SDO is almost 3 hours away for my fiancee so she has to
1. get the package a week before
2. do the medical
3. return for the result
4. go to the interview

going 4 times in a week to SDO will be a pain in the ####. besides there is also the police certificate, doesn't she needs packets 4 to get that report?

Yep. That's exactly what I did and what everyone that doesn't live in Santo Domingo does, it's not that complicated after all. Request the duplicate, she'll pick it up in the afternoon because they don't give duplicates in the morning and she will have to go to Consultorios de Visa next day in the morning (they take you in until a certain time) and she'll pick up the results when they her to do so.

For the police certificate she only has to pay and fee a pick it up. She doesn't need the packet or instructions to get that.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSpelling of names on Email - Is this an issue?
I don't think it is considered a different name. I think "other names used" in a form refers to other names you use, for some reason, in your documents. For example, my passport has my two names and two last names but my marriage license only has one name and my new last name, so all the document that I got after getting married will have only my new name (no second name or second last name). Therefore, in my application, under other names used, I wrote my name exactly as it was in all of my previous documents.

I hope you understand this, it sounds complicated now that I read it.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhen will you marry?
We said we were going to marry as soon as possible after coming to USA, maybe two weeks or something like that. Then the CO asked "what about your family? will they travel for the ceremony?" So we told him that we were planning on having a legal wedding in USA and then going back to DR in a few months for a religious wedding. He didn't seem to have a problem with that.

ETA: At POE they asked if we knew when we were going to get married and we said in about two weeks. The officer said "ok, you have to do it before June -----".

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat is going on part 2???? (dominican republic)
AP in the consulate can take months but if they say you are not in AP (I do not understand  ) then maybe they're doing some kind of additional review and it won't take that long to get your visa? IDK, it is a random "process" and it makes no sense at all. But the CO said you were approved, so keep calling, keep asking for explanations and updates. Some people end up paying for THEIR mistakes because they sit and wait around. Call, complaint, talk!!!

And good luck!
