Hi everyone.

The fiancé and I just recently received our approval! Our case left the NVC on Wednesday, and it's headed to Stockholm!

I'm just a little bit anxious, though... We did NOT expect to get approved so quickly (thought I'm certainly not complaining!). However, since this was unexpected, the fiancé is traveling away from his home address for 5 weeks. Since he's not at home, we're a little worried about what that means for scheduling his interview.

Can someone help walk me through the process from here?

  • What comes in the packet from Stockholm?
  • What will we need to do right away? What needs to be sent back to the consulate? He can have his family pick up the packet from home and express ship it to him if it contains things that need to be sent back right away.
  • How do we get an interview date? Do we have to send anything back to the consulate before they'll give us an interview date? Do they give you options for interview dates or do you just go with whatever date they give you?
  • How long is the average wait time before you're able to have the interview? A month?
  • The fiancé will be back from his travels at the beginning of August, and we'd like to have his interview in the first half of August. Since it is the end of June right now, do you think that would be possible?
I'm sorry if these questions are answered elsewhere. I've tried to do my due diligence and search the Visa Journey site, but I'm afraid I'm not very good at navigating it yet. Thanks so much for all your help. I wish you all the best of luck with your own visas!

It is difficult finding info for this particular consulate.

Once the consulate receives the documents from NVC, they will mail packet 3 to your fiance. It contains several documents that must be filled out and returned to them, then they will issue you an appointment date. I am sure you can email them and let them know your fiances availability. They do schedule about a month out.

They only communicate by email...no phone calls accepted. The forms are the i230 part 1, 156 (2 copies, original signature, 156k. They alsongive you a checklist and this must all be sent back to them along with the info portion of his passport. There may be another item, but I cant recall exactly.

Have you received your case number? And, are you familiar with the Visa Status Check? It will tell you when your case is ready for the interview stage. https://ceac.state.g...YzCYubaSQI RA==

I hope this helps you. :). Good luck!

Fiance just had his interview that took only 15 minutes total. We were expecting it to be a couple of hours. He received the 221g form because of the medical...but, they said once they receive that, the passport will be mailed out to him.

They didnt have him sign part 2 of the 230 form though. He asked about it and they said it wasnt needed for the k1. Is this correct? Will he sign it later during the AOS?

When u get to the embassy make sure u stand in the correct line. There will most likely be two lines, the one u want is closest to the fence and will be short. The other one is for people applying for student visa etc. Sometimes there is only one line, and that is the long one, and that means u will be first in line of the other one.

This is a great tip and will be very helpful, thank you for thinking of us. :) i cant believe it is almost here!

Woooooooo..... Im so excited... Flying to US tomorrow... Cant wait to start new life with my baby

So excited for you! Congratulations to you both!

No problemo.
I got plenty worked up before my interview. I really felt like the outcome of the interview would have great impact on the rest of my life, and accordingly, I was very nervous. When I was on the bus back from the embassy to downtown Stockholm, I thought to myself "that was it? That was nothing to get worked up over!"

That said, my thinking was "hope for the best and prepare for the worst" and I would rather look at it that way than to think the interview is going to be a walk in the park. You won't get your visa unless you pass the interview, so it is important. But you know what I'm saying, right?

Yes, definitely. I can totally relate to what you are saying. It is great to know we are not alone. :). That is why I love this site so much. All of you have been amazing! We feel prepared for almost anything. Almost :)

It's been a while since I had my interview (September 28, 2012), and I applied for a spousal visa, not a fiancé(e) visa, so I'm not a 100 % sure the process is the same, but... I brought some stuff to the interview besides the documents that I and my wife had sent in to the USCIS... and the lady who interviewed me didn't even look at the stuff I brought to the interview at the embassy. I brought (among other things) copies of pay stubs my wife had sent me since she had started a new job after the NVC had "taken over the case" from SCS, and I told the lady who interviewed me that my wife had a new job and that she was making more money than she had with the documents we had sent in to the USCIS, but the lady never asked to see the pay stubs or anything.

And I think I got all my documents and stuff back after the interview was over (in the mail with the passport with the visa). There are some originals that you want to hang on to (for me, marriage certificate, for example).

That doesn't mean your fiance shouldn't bring supplemental proof, if you have it. Don't take anything for granted, taking it for granted is probably the worst thing you can do. But don't get too nervous either. If you have a straight forward case with no red flags, I'd dare say the Stockholm embassy is definitely a friendly one. Stockholm isn't Lagos.

This is really nice to know, thank you very much. We feel better knowing that it will be easier having more, rather than less. I think we did prepare everything like it was for the 864 form rather than the other. It is very easy to get a bit nervous and nice to know Stockholm is a nice Embassy to go through. I am sure after the interview Thursday we will have a huge sigh of relief, along with some cocktails, if the news is good :)

Thank you for the info and for easing our minds!

Hello everybody...yes, it is me again! Lol

Just curious...what happens if my fiance goes to the Interview with too much information? I think we may have overdone it with all the proof of income, etc... Do they send back what they don't need? Does he have to take everything out of the packet for them, or do they just take the whole packet? I know he may be a bit nervous and finding the documentation, if he has to go through the binder, may be hard to do when the nerves start acting up.

I read that some of you received documents back. I would like to have some of the documents, not just copies, for the i864 thst needs to be done next. Hoping I will get some of them back.

Thank you!

What do you mean "not to return"? If it's the same guy I saw, Göran Bülow, I certainly hope he's OK. He was very nice, courteous and funny.

And good luck to you with your medical and interview, btw!good.gif I think there are panel physicians in Malmö and Göteborg, if that is of any help.

We received more details today on Dr. Bulow. We were told that he had planned on retiring at the end of June or July...then something happened and he went into the hospital. It sounds like he may be ok, just went into retirement sooner than he anticipated. I really hope that is the case.

Yes! We did! :) The minute we landed at the airport, we took off and went straight for the new physician's office that is taking over for Dr. Bulow. They were able to fit us in the next day (today) and directed us to where we could get our xrays. I am so thrilled that they could get us in! I didn't expect them to be able to.

I checked with my fiance to make sure I did not misunderstand. He said that according to the office manager, Dr. Bulow will not be returning. It is very sad and sounds serious. I wish him and his family the very best.

You won't be able to get ahold of any doctors in Sweden until Monday, it's midsommarafton so Thursday and Friday they are most likely to be off.
Try again on Monday, start calling at 8 Swedish time, here is the number to the doc in malmo 040-6111040 and here to the doc in goteborg 031-3399970

Ah! So that's where everybody is at! We will definitely call them first thing on Monday. Thank you so much for the phone numbers. :)

I flew back from Sweden to Norway with Norwegian without a passport, no problem. Just bring picture ID!
As for the medical, I think you will be fine doing it after the interview but they will need the medical to approve you.
But if the Embassy says it's ok to do it in Sweden it should be!
And the embassys e-mail answering system.....ahhhhh....remember that as being a pain in the butt!!:(

Thank you MissK :). I am really happy to hear that it is possible.

Wow, if we can get through all of this, we can get through anything! It is so nice to have all of you to go to when things get tough. I feel like I am calming down a bit. Thank you so much!

Thank you for your reply Nola. :). Your information was very helpful.

You are probably correct with having to get the medical done in the same country. We were given bad information in the beginning and my fiance actually moved to Costa Rica in the beginning of the year and was told by several people at USCIS (tier 2 and at an infopass appoinment) that he could complete the k1 interview at the Costa Rica US Embassy...well, that was incorrect. We found out the hard way.

So, he doesn't really have an address anywhere right now because of that. The Stockholm Embassy said he could see a Dr in Sweden due to this situation...and, I still hope we can. We are going to go straight to the doctor's office when we arrive Monday. And, I did put urgent in the subject line of the email I sent the embassy.

As I was writing you, the Norway physician's office contacted us and said they have an appt on the 26th at 4 pm. Almost like your situation. It seems our stay will be a little longer...that is ok though. As long as we get approved!

I just feel terrible for all of these people that are going through this too. It is not a good feeling :(

We were all set. Just focusing on the interview paperwork. Then....we received an email stating that the only Doctor that is eligible to perform the medical in Stockholm was ill and in the hospital, not to return.

I feel terrible for the doctor and hope that he is alright. We were referred to another doctor, but they are not answering their phone or emails and we are not in Sweden right now. Our original appt was on 6/25 and the interview is 6/27.

We cant get in touch with any doctors in Sweden or Norway. We did get in touch with the doctor in Denmark and made an appt....the only one they had....but, it is on Friday, the day AFTER the interview.

I cant call the embassy, because they only will communicate through email and they havent responded to the email I sent last night.

Are we able to do the medical after the interview? My fiance will have to fly to Denmark without a passport or any other ID. Is that even possible? Can he make a copy? How much trouble are we in? We cant reschedule this interview. We will lose so much money on the tickets. I wish we were there now and could just walk into the doctors office. They are there! Just not answering phones :(

Please help to ease my mind :(. Tell me this will work out.

Thank you

You should call and schedule the medical soon. The doctor in Stockholm, Bulow, is really good, but the end of June is vacation time in Sweden so you want to make sure you get an appointment.

Thank you, that is really good to know. We have emailed them, like it states to do in the instructions, but no response (3 times). My fiance is going to call tomorrow. I dont know what we will do if we cant get an appointment. Hopefully, they will have someone fill in for him.

Hello there ChaiLatte,

I will try to help. Our situation is a bit different because we are going through Sweden and each consulate is different.

I kept track of everything with the NVC website to see what the status was on our case. They dont always update, but ours said it was ready. I then emailed the consulate and asked if they could send us, by email, a provisional Packet 3 (There was a mixup and my fiance was living in Costa Rica...then was told he must use the US Consulate in Sweden. So, we would never receive Packet 3, if mailed).

We then asked for an appointment date by email...again, because of the mixup. The appointment letter was sent along with the file.

I dont know if this info helps. I hope it does. :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureschange of address

Hi! :)

My fiance (petitioner) filled out the AR-11 form with his details. He is also not an alien since he is a USC. But he called USCIS thrice. He was told twice to just complete the form since it was being asked of him. We were apprehensive about filling out the form for him since we read in the USCIS website that a USC is not required to fill out form AR-11 when changing address instead, he should just update it online. Oh well, since it was asked of us and if it was an error on their part, we figured that if they saw that he was a USC and they asked him to submit form AR-11, they'd realize that they made a mistake on their end; OR if they really do need it, at least we complied with the requirement. :) My fiance attached the letter they sent us requiring him to fill out the form along with the completed AR-11 as a proof that they did in fact ask that from him. We also attached a cover letter explaining what happened. For now, we're awaiting for their response.

Back story is, my fiance (petitioner) changed his address in January 2013 and updated it online. On January 29 the USCIS sent him a notice via text and email but the notice for the address change wasn't mailed to him. So he did not receive the hard copy. Our case status online was updated. It was still in the "Initial Review" that time but it stated that his address was already changed on record. However on Feb 14, 2013, he received a notice via text and email that there was an update on our case. Upon checking it online, our case was in the "Post Decision Activity" and it stated that they sent us a notice. We should receive it within 30 days. It didn't say what the notice was about. Forward to Feb 25, my fiance received the said notice ALONG with the actual mail from the January 29 notice. What happened was, there was a mix-up with the postal service and the Jan29 notice was returned to USCIS.

So in your case, did you, the petitioner, also change you address recently? Or your fiance (beneficiary)? Because the reason why they asked us for that is because my petitioner changed his address.

I'm hoping that we'd both figure this out!

Thank you for replying :)

I (the USC) changed my address two weeks ago and received a letter confirming my address change and talking about the AR-11. However, we definitely did not receive anything about a post decision. :(. Still shows initial review.

I think we will do the same thing that you did, just to be safe...since I was given different answers today. Very confusing :(. Good luck to us!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureschange of address

Hi!

Same scenario here. November 30, 2012 filer but NOA1 is dated December 3, 2012. My fiance (petitioner) moved and he updated his address change online last January 26, 2013. He received a mail from USCIS on January 29, 2013 confirming that they have changed his address on record. But today, he received another letter from CSC that he has to submit form AR 11 to complete the process of address change.

We have no idea if this is a good thing or not. We're hoping that this would be an opportunity for our case to be "touched" again. Our online status is currently on Post Decision Activity.

I will update you how it goes so you can gauge whether you should change your address or not. :)

Hello there, we received the same thing from CSC. I called USCIS twice and received two different answers. When you filled out te AR-11, did you put it in your fiances name or yours? It asks for a previous address in the States and since my fiance (the beneficiary) has an address outside USA. So, it didnt seem right to fill it out for him. Then it says it is for the alien, so it isnt for me.

Is your situation different?

The USCIS person I spoke with said to only fill it out for my fiance if he is already living in the USA and not if his primary address is abroad.

My fiance was planning on coming to USA with a Visa Waiver(if permitted), however, the K1 may be completed around that time. or, so we hope.

It is good to know that Atlanta has the people movers. That will be a huge help. Nothing like being the last gate in a terminal on the opposite side of the airport! He will have to decide if he wants to take the chance or not, I guess. And, if we end up having to change the dates...all of this will be moot. When I called the airline, they said it was a legal connection. Well, i would love to believe that. They make it seem so believable. Lol

I understand why the person brought up the fast lane...he was thinking that other airports may have the same thing and if so, it would make a difference. From what I read, Atlanta has this "tripod" area where they seem to take the K1's to...maybe this is similar to the fast lane?

Whatever the outcome...it will be an interesting experience to say the least! Just like the rest of this process! :)

Hello there, we just received our NOA2 and are stunned by how quickly it was approved. We are ecstatic and are getting all of the next paperwork ready.

I have searched and cant find anything on this (that related to this particular situation). Possibly, these questions are answered on the NOA2 form at I have not received yet. I apologize if this has been brought up before.

My fiance was planning on visiting the USA on July 5th...and purchased a ticket back in December (before I submitted the i129f. It is from Costa Rica to Detroit, but stopping in Atlanta. The layover is 1.5 hrs.

Will this be enough time to go through the customs process? Does he retrieve his baggage and go through customs? Or, does he get processed in Detroit?

I am worried he wont have enough time. Just trying to plan ahead. I dont believe all of this will be done before July 5th anyway...but, ya never know!

Thank you for your help!

Thank you for the good advice. I did hear back from them. They said they could change it, but since he cant show that his stay will be valid here for a full 6 months, the Costa Rican Embassy would more than likely reject it and send it back to NVC.

Do we want to take that chance?....no, not really.

Well, NVC received it on Friday, May 17th. It is set to be sent out any minute to....the wrong consulate! :(

NVC said we can email and put URGENT in the subject line with our info....and if they see it, fine....if not, well...it is out of their hands.

Address was changed with USCIS...I was told the consulate would change too...but, NVC says they still show old address. What in the world???

I guess if it does end up going, then I will call the Costa Rica U S Embassy and find out if they can do anything. Sweden is very far from Costa Rica and very expensive to fly there..not to mention, he will have to find a place to stay. He has no address out there anymore.

Oh well, I will wait and see what will happen. I am still very thankful to be at this stage. Extremely happy. I just would have liked for things to have gone where they were supposed to have gone.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhat exactly happens to NOA2?
Hello everyone!

I am a teensie-bit frantic right now, because I received the paper NOA2 by mail yesterday (only it was read to me by my Mother, because I am not currently home).

To give you some back story, I had changed my fiance's address to Costa Rica because he recently moved there. It was told to me that his consulate would be changed to Costa Rica too. This was by a tier 2 officer. Before, I made this change, I had a meeting with our local Uscis office and they told me the same thing.

After receiving our email confirming our NOA2 approval, I then called the USCIS NSC and spoke with a Tier 2 agent to confirm that our case will be sent to Costa Rica and NOT Norway. This was last Wednesday. She was unable to see anything, except that it was sent out on the 13th and told me to wait for the paper version of NOA2 for instructions. She said there is no consulate listed, but that doesnt really mean anything. If his address says Costa Rica, then it will be Costa Rica.

So, my Mother reads the NOA2 and says that they do not know which consulate. I must call an 800 number (not sure which one yet) and submit an 824 form if i need the consulate to be changed. I looked at this 824 form. The fee is $405!!!

What does all of this mean? Is it hanging out at CSC waiting for me to respond? If so, why didnt the Tier 2 person help me? Was it sent to NVC?

I dont believe I should have to fill out any more forms and pay outrageous fees because someone over there did not follow through.

Please, someone, give me some hope.

Thank you,

Melanie

Thank you!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI134 form question
Hello everyone,

I unfortunately do not make enough money and my mother has offered to co-sponsor for us. We have her last 3 years of tax transcripts. However, she just retired February 1st, 2013 and her new income will still be enough...however, she is unable to receive a letter showing exactly what this new income will be. They are so backlogged where she works (many people took their buyout option) and they are still working on getting the documentation out to the employees.

My mother has received some payments...but, she only has her bank statements to back this up.

She has her own business and retirement annuities...these alone are enough. Should she just not include the retirement amount she receives from her employer?

Just want to make sure this is correct sonce we will be doing this again with the AOS process.

Thank you so so much and I hope this all makes sense. :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresMedical appointment was just canceled!
I know, I am sure many people are affected by this :(. Just terrible.. I have tried to call them in the past and the receptionist says, she is sorry, but they only will accept emails. She will not put me through. Also, today is a holiday for the Embassy and they are not open. I thought I would call and sweet talk my way through...only to find that out.

I think we may be in trouble and I really want to cry right now.

Please help to ease my mind :(. Tell me this will work out.

Thank you
