US Citizenship General Discussioncitizenship application and trips
Hi Dave,

I am sirry. I forgot to mention that I am divorced as of Dec of 2012. I have no problem with 2011 tax filing but 2012 and 2013. I googled and I even went to turbo tax and at the end I got a message that I am not required to file. My main concern is what I should show or send when I am applying for naturalization. Print the message from the tax software? Divorce and unemployment sure does complicate things. I had no problem with ROC no interview or anything. This will be a challenge

US Citizenship General Discussioncitizenship application and trips
Thanks, I will contact them to get my records. I don't know think I am at risk of not being able to apply next year. Even if my trips are just over a year. I have not left the U.S for more than 6 more or a year at any time. I have so much to worry about. The next comes taxes. If I apply next year, they would want my taxes for 13, 12, 11. For 2011,I was married and filed jointly. For 2012 I had no income and taking care of kid. Stay at home dad. and possibly 2013 I may not have any income. I haven't filed. I am searching but nothing as of yet. How do I explain? I am not on welfare. Sometimes I wish I was on welfare because at least they would know and I would have filed taxes. He stupid CPA tells me I am not allowed to file taxes if I don't have income. I can't even claim my child support.

US Citizenship General Discussioncitizenship application and trips
Hello,

In the application for citizenship it asks to write all trips outside of U.S. I only remember the last two years with exact dates. The resi I can only estimate. Also, I would be able to find it through my passport as Canada customs never stamped my entry date. What do I do? Also if all my trips adds up to a year away from the U.S will it prolong my eligibility for citizenship. Right now I am eligible to apply next may.

US Citizenship General Discussionhow will my travel outside of us affect my citizenship
Thanks for the info...the Dec to June was due to my mom's illness. When I came back the IO didn't say why I was away for that long. Also I had a place in the U.S.....will this come up in the citizenship interview? Should I take my mothers hospital documents to show why I was away? Thanks

Hello....I believe I have been out of the us for about 200 days. These are all vacation and emergency trips. I have never been out of the U.S for more than 6 months at any time. I left for Emery to Canada on Dec 15 and came back June 1. If I go to Canada for a week or two again this year will the 5 year requirement reset? Thanks

Applying under 3 year or 5 year?  Total time out of the country now/after proposed trip?  You need to give more info.

Applying after 5 years. Total visit already amount to 12-13 month. Resident since Jul 2009 on GC. thanks

US Citizenship General Discussionhow will my trip affect my citizenship
Hello,

I left last year On Dec 15 and came back to the California June 1. I wanted to go to Canada for Christmas and wanted to know if it will affect my residency/citizenship. I am eligible to apply on April 11/2014. If I count all my trips to Canada it will come close to a year or slightly 13-14 months all together. No trip longer than a year. Am I in risk if I go? Or should I wait till after nthe new years. Thanks

Because their business model is to make money when you get a refund.
AN accountant will work it and file because their fee is independent of whether you get a refund or not.
Lastly, you can work the tax yourself, and file yourself.

I know that accountants don't care as long as they get their money. They claim I do not need to file or.meet requirement

For my annuity I get no t4/5 from Canada. As it is tax exempt. Not considered mcome. CCP disability t5.....the h&r block lady researched and called the Canadian office and was said tontall to a lawyer for half n hr and that you do not need to file but get something in writing from IRS. I can't believe how no one can give me a definite answer. When I was moving to cra, I was told if I have ties to Canada for tax purposes I am a resident lol. Which I do. Who am I to believe?

Hello,

I am very confused. I moved to the U.S. in 2009 marriage based cr1. Filed taxes from 09-11 with my wife. We divorced in 2012. My source of are annuity from settlement insurance company and CPP disability. I choose monthly annuity as it is non taxable. I have been to all the accountants and hr block to file for 2012 and get the run around. They all tell me that I am not required to file tax return.

The H&R person whom.I spoke to said send returns from 09-11. I am lost who is right. If I don't need to file taxes and during the interview they may ask how do I live? I do not get any assistance from the govt, so I am not a burden on the us govt/tax payers. I am very stressed. I don't know why to do. I need help. Thanks
