Wow, I'm sorry to both of you. Here I am, one of the people that always tells others to read the guides and use search
before posting a thread. Thanks for the heads up. If a mod wants to delete this thread, feel free or lock it.

If you scroll down to the part about EI in the States from Canada, it says "you must
be legally able to work in the United States". Does that translate to SSN and EAD or
just SSN?

According to the appointment letter, you can pay the visa fee in the Canadian equivalent OR pay it in US dollars. Anyone see a problem with doing that or is it strictly US only?

Will do. I would tell you what she looks like, but she's already in my signature, so keep your eyes open on Friday smile.gif As others have reported on their recent interviews,
it sounds like this step is a breeze compared to some of the hurdles we have all jumped through so far. Good luck to you as well.

Karen - The envelope you need is Xpresspost National Prepaid Envelope - Large size. Its on Canada Post's page, about 4th up from the bottom I believe. Just check the size against the appointment letter listed dimensions.

Note: If you live in Ontario or Quebec, the Xpresspost Regional Prepaid Envelope will suffice, otherwise, all other territories/provinces MUST use National.

Pandora - Yeah, she got that already and put it aside. Tempting to spend it though, she said smile.gif It looks complete to me.

CanadaReviewing documents for interview
Alright, so the final list should be:

* Affidavit of support w/ any supporting documents
* Photocopy of her passport information page
* Two standard passport pictures
* Police report/certificate
* Evidence of engagement since you filed the petition
* Originals of any documents submitted in photocopy with the petition
* Copies of the NOAs.
* Appointment letter
* Actual Passport
* Xpresspost National Mailer prepaid and signature delivery required
* Updated Fiance letter of intent
* Medical results
* DS-156K (to be signed in presence of interviewer)
* Copy of I-129F packet (for any questions that may/may not be asked)

I ask this because I've searched time and again for this list. No such comprehensive list exists in one location for K-1, or at least one that is "generally" confirmed by K-1 interviewees.

CanadaReviewing documents for interview
Damn, wish I could have edited my above post. She does have:

* Two passport pictures
* Police report
* Affidavit of support
* Copy of NOA1 and NOA2

As far as evidence, we mostly have pictures in various places. As far as originals of documents, we aren't talking like my birth certificate correct?
IzoomMaleCanada2008-10-15 17:58:00
CanadaReviewing documents for interview
So far, my list for her to bring includes:

* Appointment letter (to get in)
* Passport (to get out)
* Xpresspost National Mailer prepaid and signature delivery required (since she can't use Regional for Ontario/Quebec)
* My updated Fiance letter of intent
* Medical results
* DS-156K (to be signed in presence of interviewer)
* Copy of I-129F packet (for any questions that may/may not be asked)

What originals does she need besides her birth certificate?

Sounds like Danielle's experience was similar as well. Glad to see he's a good doctor and hear pleasant reviews of the process. In a way, I feel
sort of helpless that the spouse has to go through all these hoops while I, the US citizen, just sort of sits here and waits patiently. I wish I had to
go through a medical or something, so that not all the burden is on her.

The employees and customs officials have generally been nice when asked questions. Its certainly a nice airport and I'm that they have
the US-bound flights area separated from the rest, as to not create any confusion. I imagine that your waiting by those opaque "DO NOT ENTER"
doors is always fun smile.gif

I've found only a handful of VJ members that either lived or still live in Nova Scotia. I will be the first to write a P.O.E. review for Halifax I suppose smile.gif

I figure I'll just tell them I'm visiting my fiance and if he pushes for any more information, I'll tell him. The previous 4 visits have all been "have a nice day" type
of greetings from CBP. The USCIS people are little more curious when US citizens are returning, but its their job. Techniccaly speaking, the first bit of American
soil we land on will be Boston, then Atlanta, and finally West Palm Beach around midnight.

Post-checkpoint areas are still within the "rules and laws" of the governing country, not the sovereign nation represented right?

Alrighty, well I guess it never hurts to ask around.

Sapphire - I agree with you 100%. The CBP guys seem more to-the-point and ask the required questions whereas the USCIS
guys scrutinize your choices, even without saying a word. I'm hoping they don't give her a hard time in Halifax International.
There is a pub in the waiting area for the US-bound flights, maybe we can pre-celebrate there after passing through the checkpoint smile.gif

I assumed that would be the best. Its honest, its letting them know I have no intentions of staying in Canada (nothing wrong with that, lol), and that I'm
pursuing a legal means of marriage and immigration. The irony is that other than letting me in the country, the K-1 process has little or nothing to do with
them from that point on.

I almost didn't make a topic on this, but I guess this topic could server as a general post about the CBP, unless there is a thread elsewhere.

Anyways, my question is in regards to the CBP's question of "purpose of visit". As some of you may or may not know, I'm flying up Saturday (10/25)
to do a little goodbye celebration with her friends/family and help her pack. We fly back together on Tuesday (10/28). I've never had a problem
with the CBP in Halifax, in fact, they are generally friendly and to the point about their job. I'm curious as to which response makes more sense when
asked about my reason for visiting Canada.

* I'm here to see my fiance and travel back with her to the United States and get married using her K-1 visa.
* I'm here to see my fiance...
* My fiance just got her K-1 visa and I'm here to help her pack and fly back home with her.

Any other issues/comments on the CBP you could post here as well. I like the fact that the checkpoint is in the airport, so if there are any problems,
hey...we're still in Canada smile.gif

That long,bent white area to the bottom left is the US departures for anyone who hasn't flown out of Halifax before.

Canadahow long does it take for visa to arrive from MTL?
Well if thats the case, then we're screwed...we have a flight on Tuesday the 28th. In a way, I did feel booking a flight so soon after the interview
was being quick, but I assumed that it would arrive by that time. I'm hoping if the worst case scenario is that we can't fly, that Delta will work with
us on our flight arrangements.

I shouldn't think like that though, I should be thinking happy thoughts biggrin.gif

Canadahow long does it take for visa to arrive from MTL?
Well here's to hoping it arrives.

Question though...if you pay for a service that says 2 days, but arrives later than that, shouldn't you be entitled to a refund or discount? I just think that if businesses
could promise one thing and deliver another, less suitable service or product, wouldn't that be grounds for complaints?
IzoomMaleCanada2008-10-23 14:48:00
Canadahow long does it take for visa to arrive from MTL?
Danielle had her interview this past Friday (10/17) and the officer said it will be mailed out Monday. Assuming thats the case,
she should be getting it today or tomorrow by the latest. Assuming Canadapost is pretty reliable like couriers here, 2-day delivery
generally means its there. Even if its late on the 2nd day, I've always had 2-day service be on time. She gets it today or tomorrow,
I go up Saturday, and we're all back in FL by next Tuesday smile.gif

Good luck, you'll do just fine.

Canadabeing a US citizen
Well let me clarify, I suppose she would eventually go for it at some point. However, at this point, we are more focused on getting TO that point smile.gif

Who knows, if things really went bad here (United States) for some reason, I could move to Canada then.
IzoomMaleCanada2008-10-23 17:13:00
Canadabeing a US citizen
I think at this point, she is going to forego US citizenship for the time being. Besides other details, the one big one that jumps out for naturalizing is being able to vote for President and to "say" you are a US citizen. Besides those two, I don't see a reason for her to go past getting her green card.

CanadaDucks in a row
Well, with our plans and getting married on December 6th, it seems like a waiting game till then. We can take care of some things prior to that, but
the rest needs to occur or would occur after. Applying for the marriage license tomorrow, supposedly there is a 3-day waiting period.
IzoomMaleCanada2008-11-03 17:08:00
CanadaDucks in a row
Now that we are together, we realized what we have ahead of us. The little things seem to become harder as we realize what needs to be
done, but in the right order. Correct me on this but I think I have this right so far...

Apply for:
Marriage license first (can't do much without it)
SSN before marriage (can change name after ceremony)
Driver's license before marriage (can change name after ceremony, only after obtaining SSN)

Is that right? She has her own bank account and I'm working on cell phone plan, but so far I think that is where we are at so far.

CanadaHPV vaccine question
That's been a thorn in my side throughout this process BermyCat. Its as though each consulate received the same handbook from the
State department and has decided to each follow it according to their own personal interpretation. Like I said before, a blanket rulebook
wouldn't work due to some circumstances in some countries, but this widely varying discrepancies between consulates just doesn't make
sense.
IzoomMaleCanada2008-10-10 09:52:00
CanadaHPV vaccine question
Well I think as long as we VJ's continue to post our experiences as we progress through this process, then those who
follow will hopefully be better equipped to answer questions. It may not be the best for us, but at least they will have
access to information that we may or may not have had at this point.
IzoomMaleCanada2008-10-08 17:30:00
CanadaHPV vaccine question
Given that us VJ's represent a small minority of the people going through this process, the lack of clear, concise information is disappointing.

I'm not in any way suggesting that is a VJ member's fault, but rather the lack of information on some matters and the overflow of it on other matters.
I wish there were clear cut answers, but I suppose that every case is slightly different, so one "cover all" solution wouldn't work. She is going to get
the first shot and be done with it so that there is no chance of mistakes or questions in Montreal. We've waited this long and already booked plane tickets
a week later, so its the home stretch now.
IzoomMaleCanada2008-10-07 23:49:00

Well despite the disapproval of some people, I guess its something we'll just have to grit our teeth and do it.

CanadaHPV vaccine question
So, unless I've misread some posts/reports...not all immigrants from all countries are required to have this? Thats even MORE unfair than
I originally thought.

We've spent enough time on this process and if its $100 something for the shot and it might hurt, I think a little pain is worth the goal of
being together. I've seen some numbers that say moderate pain, swelling, etc in rare cases, so lets hope she isn't one of those rare ones.
Of all the things that could have gone wrong, I'd hate for a shot to stop us from being together.
IzoomMaleCanada2008-10-07 11:26:00
CanadaHPV vaccine question
So the chances of a family doctor or US Visa doctor writing a note saying the patient can't or won't have the shot is likely throwing a wrench
into the works?
IzoomMaleCanada2008-10-07 09:33:00
CanadaHPV vaccine question
This is a dumbed down way of putting this but its as though someone at dinner mentioned "Gardasil might be worth immunizing against"
and then next morning on CNN, your dinner conversation become policy. What gives?

It seems rather controversial based on the articles and information available to the public via the Internet. Unless there are more pros
out there than cons, I don't see supporting this immunization, despite having to do it in order to satisfy Visa requirements.
IzoomMaleCanada2008-10-03 08:17:00
CanadaHPV vaccine question
I wonder if someone could argue that case...

Certain immigrants or methods of entering the country allow you to bypass the vaccine, whereas a minority group
MUST get the vaccine or they will be denied entry. Doesn't that seem illegally selective to anyone? Granted, we can't
do much about it right away, but I'm sure with enough complaints that a stink could be raised about this issue.
IzoomMaleCanada2008-10-02 10:15:00
CanadaHPV vaccine question
Did you pay for them all at once or is it possible as some have said...to get the 1st and only pay for that?
IzoomMaleCanada2008-10-01 21:38:00
CanadaHPV vaccine question
Well some of the reason for doubt was cost, but more so for the true requirement of needing it or not. Thanks for clearing that up.

I think we might do the first one to satisfy the vaccination needs, but skip the rest. I thought they were pills, not shots?
IzoomMaleCanada2008-10-01 19:54:00
CanadaHPV vaccine question
Just to confirm, I don't need it before the K-1 interview and I don't need it before AOS? Then when do I need it? That doesn't seem to make sense.

If it IS right, then thanks for the information.

CanadaHPV vaccine question
My fiance and I have been reading the pros and cons of this vaccine and the possible side effects.

Besides those, we also noticed the cost, around $350 to $400. Is this a situation where you may object
to the vaccination and risk trouble during the interview or what? I'm wondering that since its a multi-step
drug over periods of weeks, that she can take the first pill prior to immigration and continue the other two
when the time comes after she is here.

I hope there is some leeway on this issue and not just get it or you don't pass type of deal.
IzoomMaleCanada2008-10-01 16:47:00
CanadaWhen you tell people you are from Canada
I agree that, in general, Canadians seem more accepting of other cultures and things compared to us. Just a friendly attitude in general.

I think that most people also assume, along with the whole simple immigration idea, that marrying someone automatically grants them citizenship. I get that one a LOT.
Sometimes I try to explain the process, but usually they don't want to hear it, so I end up simplifying it down into a few steps.
