am getting a lil nervous .. i turned in my N400 with everything requested i see that they cashed my check on 3/28 - i have been a permanent resident since 1977 .. but i still have not gotten anything from them saying they have received my application - does it take a few days after to get that in the mail?

Well, since they have cashed ur check that means they are going to process ur app. u just need to wait! do you check the status of ur app online? they normally should tell you what is going on. if they mail a letter, the update appears in ur online account before u actually receive the letter.

Look at the USCIS instructions sheet before you fill in and/or send your application. They publish those instructions along with the app for a reason. The instructions answer your question "Yes, you can". You are actually asked to send the photocopies unless they specify otherwise.

Make sure you hit "reply" under the post with the most recent update (in this case mine). That takes you to the full editor. Make sure you remove the top and bottom quotes, update your info and hit "preview post" to double check it looks okay. Then "add reply".

I am sending my package today. My case is very complicated. I have long absences from the states. I am filing as a spouse of a US citizen even though I have been a resident for about 6 years. I didnt file taxes for couple years (while abroad). I talked to an immigration lawyer and she helped me put my documents together (to close any holes). I wont be surprised if my application is rejected or even denied....

US Citizenship General DiscussionComplicated situation, divorce and citizenship

Well it has been 4 years since i posted on this site which by the way is a blessing, to make this long dramatic story short i got here to the USA in April 2009,lived happily with my ex, had a son, and worked my butt off so we can have a stable life which we did, paid off her debts, her car and managed to enjoy the luxury of affording what we wanted and needed, any way due to many ups and downs after our child birth and the some what evil intervention of some of her old friends and few family members things got a bit sour, but never in my mind was i ready for what followed, all the financials were linked to her, all bills, bank accounts and the rest, to my absolute surprise she filled for divorce in March 2012, the divorce is still in court, we have been living separately since October 2012, i was planning to file for citizenship on April 2012 but her filing for divorce threw me off and i had to focus on getting my finances back together since i didn't have a car nor a personal bank account. now im in this situation where my lawyer says it would of helped a bit in this custody battle if i was a citizen  specially that international travel is on the table plus i feel  it is time for me to get the citizenship taking care of. i can wait until April 2014 and file 5 years if not what are my options now? any info will be much appreciated,thanks

US Citizenship General DiscussionI need an answer about IRS Tax Transcript of 2012 !

just for you know guys:
the NVC probabely will accept the 2011 as the most recent year BUT my concern is for the embassy interview, because the consulate officer may ask for the 2012 transcript by the date of the interview which it would be around April ? ... or he wont since 2011 is still acceptable as the most recent year untill the month of jully 2013 ?

Mine says the same thing! I had my removal of conditions biometrics back in 2009. Seems like they might need your fingerprints again! Good luck!

Hello everyone!
I would really appreciate any help about my case. I'm moving to Egypt with my wife (She is a US citizen) because she has a field research and we dont want to be separated for a long period. I have my conditional GC. We are planning to stay there for about 2 years at least. These are my questions:
Is it OK to be outside the US if we are outside the US together? We will come back to the US together each time we come back to visit?
Will I have to apply for the re-entry permit every year or should I apply for 2 or 3 years re-entry permit?

I read many posts about this topic but I havent read anything about being outside the US because your American spouse has to be outside the US....I came to the US because of her so why is it a problem if I'm leaving the US because of her!!!!


Any help will be appreciated

I was about to file my re-entry application when I found out that the re-entry permit expires the day the Green Card expires. I'm going to be outside the country when my Green Card expires so it doesnt make sense to apply for a re-entry permit that will expire before my scheduled return to the US. I'm going to stay outside the country for about two years and my Green Card is expiring next year!!! What should I do? I heard\read that I can apply for a new GC abroad, is that correct? Is it possible to get a re-entry permit once I obtain my new Green Card abroad?

too many questions! please guys provide me with as much information as you can. All suggestions are welcome and I'm gonna check in official websites for more accurate answers...I just need your guidance at the moment.

Hi guys,
Has anyone heard of 'Overseas hold'? I read in a different website a post by someone from the UK who wanted to remove the conditions on his GC from London and he mailed all the required documents to the US but he received a letter saying that his case is on 'overseas hold'!!! They also gave him a date that he should come back to the US if he wants to keep his GC.

Does anyone know about 'overseas hold' and when it occurs? I'm planning with my wife to apply for the removal of conditions from Egypt (we both gonna be there) and I cant get a reentry permit because it is going to expire on the same date that my GC expires. I want to return to the US at least a year after the expiration of my conditional GC.

Look, you can't honestly believe that his intentions are to live and reside in the USA, as is actually "required" for PR (although some people try to get around it). Seriously? He just came back from a 10 month absence, and he intends in a couple of months to go back for 2 years!? Does this really sound like someone who wants to be a permanent resident? He only came back the day before his card expired. IMO, and I think what is just common sense, he has no real intentions of living or making a life here. It seems as though his life is in Egypt. Someone explain to me, why I am the one who is wrong and why I am the one being hounded, for my obvious observations?

And greencard holders and naturalized citizens Do contribute to the economy. I never said they didn't, but they usually tend to live in the country.


Just saw this post. To give you some peace of mind and help you find something more meaningul to observe. I am finishing a degree between Egypt and USA, and my wife is doing her Phd research in Egypt. Any more questions or observations?

Yep! I filed from Egypt. I sent the application to a friend here in the states who sent it to USCIS. Apparently, they have cashed the check. And as some of you might have already said, I dont really feel compelled to apply for the US citizenship, so I am not worried about the time I spent outside the country. I am actually heading back to Egypt in few months. May stay there for 2 years this time, but I am gonna apply for the travel permit this time. I didnt apply for it before because it is supposed to expire the day ur GC does and I knew that I was coming back to the states before the expiration of my GC. Good luck to everyone...

Thank you so much for the positive thoughts and the advice. Yes, I got admitted to the states with no QUESTIONS. I stayed outside the states for 10 months (I was in Egypt). And my Green Card was expiring the day after my arrival. The officer at the port of entry treated me like anybody else....Just the computer was a bit slow to respond when he entered my information into the system. He was about to put the date stamp in my passport but he paused...he waited to see what the computer had to say...I thought he was going to call the cops to take me to some shady private room to interrogate me about my long absence and the expiring Green Card...but the computer responded in few seconds! And I was free to go...

Hi VJers,

My last post was about me being admitted into the states after a long absence. Today I am posting about a problem in the mail. I called USCIS about the NOA1 and the biometrics letters that I havent received yet. To my surprise, USCIS have already sent them. I am using a friend's address which I told USCIS about and they confirmed that it is the address that they sent the letters to. But my friend has said that he hasnt received anything yet. So we are thinking that either the letters were lost or they have been delivered to a wrong address. The other option maybe that because I don't physically live in the address, the postman returned the mail back to the postoffice or to USCIS. My question is: Has something similar happened to someone else and what did they do about it? I am calling USCIS asap to ask about my biometrics date in case I dont find the letter.

Hello everyone,
We are glad to be done with USCIS. Our application for the removal of conditions has been approved. USCIS actually asked for more evidence about a month ago which we provided. We were a bit worried when they asked for more evidence but it seems like what we sent was enough. For those who are interested, this is what we sent.
First package:
-lease
-pictures (wedding and trips with friends and family)
-bank statements (shared bank account)
-letters of support from friends
-itinerary showing out flights together in the states and abroad.

USCIS contacted us and asked for more evidence without specifying. So we sent them the following:
-my life inssurance (stating that my wife was entitled to the double of my annual income in case of my death)
-letter of support from a neighbor who attended our wedding and who has known us very closely for more than 2 years.
-a letter from my wife explaining why the utility bills werent included (they were in my wife's name before i came to the states, so there was no point in adding my name)
-blank chech showing both of our names.


USCIS contacted us with the good news last week...it is such a relief...good luck to all those who are waiting.

I stayed outside the states more than 6 months in two different occasions. No questions asked when coming back to the states. The only issue is that your time toward citizenship is interrupted unless you have a valid justification for the absence. Staying outside USA for more than a year without a re-entry permit makes you lose your permanent resident status.

I'm planning to file at the end of this month to remove conditions from my husband's residency. I am planning to include the following documentation:

• Copies of the passports and green cards of Rahmatulah Wahidi.
• Copy of the tax statementS for 2011 and 2012, which we filed jointly.
• A letter from my 401K provider stating that my husband is the beneficiary on my account.
• Letter from my company of the designation of my life insurance to my husband.
• Copies of various car insurance notices.
• Copies of auto loan statements, showing that we are both named on the auto loan.
• Copy of our MasterCard Cards showing a joint account.
• Copy of our American Express Cards showing a joint account.
• Copies of the last 6 months’ bank statements from our joint checking and savings accounts.
• A copy of our airline reservations for a trip that we took in March to Las Vegas.
• Letter from my physician stating that we are expecting our first child August 1, 2013.


Do you think that is enough? Do I also need to send photos? I am missing anything important?

Looks like more than enough. I submitted less documents and my application was accepted. I think your life insurance is the killer of the killer, especially if the amount is sizable and your husband is the sole beneficiary. Good luck!
