IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresSo lost!
Thank you so much casprd. I understand that because I wasn't a citizen, things were taking up a longer time to get done (through the other end). Now that I am a citizen I want to be proactive so I really appreciate your guidance. I do have most, if not all of my paystubs, I have my tax returns but what would I need a bank statement for? What do they look for in the bank statement? If I make enough money (and it's been proven by tax returns and paystubs)? I'm just curioius...

If you really need to know, I was 18 when we got married (I knew him for two years and I obviously couldn't file for him since I was underage). We didn't know what we were going to do...if I was going to move there, or him here. It has taken a lot of thinking to decide on what we wanted to do and we finally came to the right place and the right plan for our future and that included him being here. Thank you, Boiler for your snarky question =) And thank you Ryan H for your answer.

Hello all,

I am brand new to this whole petitioning business and to VJ and honestly, I have no idea what most of you are talking about! There is so much information on this site that I'm thankful for but it's a bit overwhelming.
I'm from Colombia, I moved to the U.S when I was 8 and I met my husband when I went down to Colombia a few years ago. We got married and we've been apart for almost 4 years. I finally filed I-130 along with my N-400 back in November 2010. I got NOA1 about a month after I sent in all of my paperwork and my N-400 went along a lot quicker. Today I had my oath ceremony and I'm finally a U.S citizen. I will be sending my updated citizenship status on monday. Now, I believe I'm waiting for NOA2 (?). I'm driving myself crazy waiting. Is there anything I can do in the mean time? Is there anything my husband can do? I know he has to get immunizations and physical exam, he has to get things from DAS proving his clean record...can he do any of that NOW instead of the week of the interview? Maybe that would relieve some stress.

Any Fellow Colombians that have already gone through this or are going through this please talk to me! I don't want to drive myself insane. If you could give me some tips on helping the process go faster or ANYTHING, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you all for reading

This is wonderful. I just found out that we needed a baptismal certificate, but we are still in the beginning stages of this process (waiting for noa2). My husband and I STUDY with Jehovah's Witnesses and we have not been baptized. Mononoke28, could you please provide a link to the Club Colombia page? I am not very good at navigating Visa Journey quite yet. I am learning =)

Thank you.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAnother (annoying) I-864 question...
Hi all,

Well, right now I'm at the NVC stage (finally!) and have paid the AOS bill. Now, last year I didn't make enough to meet the poverty levels (by $2,000 :crying: ) and need a co/joint sponsor. I don't really have anybody that can help me out in that area as well, I don't have basically any family here and I don't have friends that can help me out. I live with my mom and my step dad. They are willing to sign anything that I need but I'm afraid that they won't qualify. I understand when a co-sponsor is used they fill out the I-864 and a household member fills out I-864a. They do not claim me on their taxes nor I them.

How does the I-864a work? Is their income supplemental to mine?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresHow Important Is It?
Now, I know that I-864 is definitely something that needs to get done, and you HAVE to be over 125% poverty guidelines. This is just something that I have been stressing about. Will NVC do an RFE if your I-864 isn't done correctly? Do they let it go and let the embassy deal with it? What part does the embassy play in the Affidavit of Support?

Please don't jump at me and tell me I need to get it done correctly; I have. I'm just afraid of being denied because I will be going to the interview with my husband and don't want to waste a trip if we were to get denied because of that. Maybe I'm not being rational. I know you all understand how stressful this process is.

ETA: spelling errors.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresOur Story
The things that you listed are mostly for evidence of a bonafide marriage. To prove this you can use all of the information that you have and if you don't have your chat history from when you first met then you can do a quick letter such as what you shared with us about your relationship. It's been 6 years, even if it were only one or two, it would be enough. It seems like your case shouldn't have any problems at all. You have plenty of evidence and the rest is easy peasy.

I hope you get more feedback from more experienced members!

You only need the case number to send the ds-3032. And you are correct, the invoice number is to pay those fees.

If you send it now, you should have an e-mail saying they received it early next week (if they're not backlogged)

When you do other paperwork and talk to Immigration officers, do not lie. Tell them the truth, exactly as it happened. It should not harm your process. Worst case scenario you will need to file a waiver at the interview stage. There are a few others on here that have been through it and hopefully they can comment on this post to give you some more feedback.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresEvidence for bona fide marriage
How do they keep in contact? e-mail? phone records? skype records?

what about pictures? from their engagement? wedding? with family?

Her passport...How many times has she visited? The stamps on her passport could also be used as proof of how many times she has gone and visited him.

If they just got married and she's starting the process, it may very well be that her baby will be born before her husband gets here, and if that is so than she can use that as evidence as well. (I hope this is not the case)

Do they have any joint accounts?

Let's hope someone else can brainstorm with you and give more ideas for your sister.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresHow much longer after the i-864???
Since you do not have income, you should probably look into having somebody else co-sponsor your wife. As far as your savings go, they only figure 10% of what you have. Example: you have 20k, they will only figure in 2k. You need to be above 125% poverty limit.

Mybe I misunderstood the post. If I did I apologize. While I have greatest respect for military personnel I just do not see why military personnel has to get their documents processed faster than any other people? All of us are tax payers, all of us are USC. All of us are working. All of us want to be with their loved ones. The fact that you are military does not mean that you love more or that you want to be with your loved ones more than other people. Military do enjoy more benefits that the rest of us. However, being with the loved ones is the same for everyone. These are just my 2 cents. Being in the military is your personal choice. Choice of profession. No entitlement to privileges that are outside of usual military privileges. I apologize if I misunderstood the post. Good luck!

Military expedite is something that is granted many times by USCIS / NVC and US embassy. It is done so because they may DIE on deployment before they can be with or marry the person they love. They may be critically injured and need their wife at home when they return. Deployment to an active combat zone generally grants an expedite. But you need to have the proof.

Being with a loved one is NOT the same for military members. Because you never know if your husband or wife will actually come home or if they will come home missing arms and legs or severely traumatized for the rest of their life from the war.
