Beach Boys- Wouldn't Be Nice

The Beach Boys just made me cry!! :crying:

Since we've hit our five month mark, Monday I'm going to call and ask "Hey! Forget about us?"

In the mean time I've tried to keep busy. This weekend was a top to bottom house clean and wall painting.

Lord do I hear you there. Having a rough day myself.

CanadaMedical results? lol
Thanks Pocheros. I live in London, Ontario and have family in Toronto so that helps. I didn't particularly want to be wandering around Montreal and paying for hotel accommodations for several days. Our budget is very very tight and it would be a strain on us. Initially we thought, after we married, that I could apply from there and so we rented an apartment. I then discovered I had to stay in Canada throughout the process so, for the past 8 months have been paying rent in two countries. Not fun. Being able to bop in to Toronto for the medical helps alot. Again, thanks for the info Pocheros.

CanadaMedical results? lol
On a similar note, I have a question.

Can I arrange the medical myself to be done in Toronto, then bring sealed envelope to Montreal interview.

Or do they (MTL)arrange the medical and have it in Montreal shortly before the interview?

CanadaPayment of Fees online
I'm sitting here reading Salin's guideline and note that she refers to transit and account numbers for methods of payment. Can you not use a credit card to pay the AOS and IV payments. That would work better for me and I am concerned that using a Canadian Bank account would slow down the processing of these payments.

Canadadual canadian citizenship for my husband and i

Yes, that is how it happens. When you are eligible (3 years GC holder) you simply apply for American citizenship. You do not have to do anything else if/when you become an American citizen- you are AUTOMATICALLY a dual. You do not have to inform Canada or anything, your Canadian citizenship is not in danger. Many, many people are dual Canadians/Americans (such as Alanis Morissette and Celine Dione.)

Where people get confused is in the oath ceremoney you swear that your allegiance is to the US and and only the US or something like that but they CANNOT force you to renounce your citizenship, are you are free to become an American citizen so long as you meet the 3 year GC requirements.

There are a few countries that don't allow dual citizenship, like Japan, but the US is not one of them.

Thank you Pocheros! This is wonderful news. I love both countries - considered us all brothers and sisters all my life. Would hate to renounce my Canadian Citizenship and I do bleed maple leaves. Both countries are wonderful - different - but wonderful in their own right. I can sleep easy now and now can answer EVERYONE's crazy questions without concern. YEEHAW!!!

Canadadual canadian citizenship for my husband and i

Yes, the two years to ROC is from the date on his green card, not your anniversary date.

After 3 years of the date of his first green card, he can apply for naturalization. He will not lose his Canadian citizenship and he can legally carry both passports.

They only way for him to lose his Canadian citizenship is to go to a Canadian Embassy, renounce his citizenship formally, fill out some forms, then a federal judge will later sign off on it.

This issue is confusing to me too. Once a person is eligible to become a U.S. citizen - can they become a US Citizen (removing all sponsorship obligations) AND not renounce Canadian Citizenship - thereby becoming Dual Citizen?

I have been struggling with this very concept. And I've had lots of people ask me if I can go the Dual Citizenship Route. Someone seriously please CLARIFY

Thanks,

Georgia

CanadaRecent cross country move with U-haul

An alternative.

When I did a similar move, I purchased a properly sized brand new enclosed trailer but I did have a good tow vehicle.

Anyways a few weeks after the move I was able to sell the trailer for more than I bought it for.

Just a thought.

You might want to look into POD service. These are like large truck-type cargo boxes that you have dropped off at your current location. You fill it like a regular move. Then they put it on a flat bed with other PODS and ship it via road or rail. I'm told its very cost effective. Perhaps others have more information on this and perhaps experience. I know one fellow who did it to move from Canada to Costa Rica and was delighted at the cost.

Good luck. Sorry to hear you've had such a rough time.

CanadaDoes this mean Case Complete at NVC?
To the first question - you should have a residence established there. At least that is my understanding. Fortunately my husband and I already have a place and he is currently living in it. LOL, he won't unpack and so the place a somewhat of a shambles until I'm there to fix it Teeheehee. But yes, you need to have a permanent address there before the interview.

As far as the rest is concerned - others more knowledgeable will have to answer you.

Good luck. Talk about LAUNCHING a new life. You guys are doing it is spades!!!!

Alizon - thanks. Good to know. Now I get down and have a serious chat with HIM to move this forward fast. LOL, I'm sure he hears that all the time.

Skip and M - Yup it does refer to the beneficiary! Think Saylin has warned us all about that in her guides. Although it is tough to stand back and wait - wait we will. Then, watch things move fast LOL. All that pent-up energy and months of waiting.............

feeling a little giddy in fact!

Why do they have to use such vague wording. Would it kill them to just say - Your case is complete with us. We are now forwarding all materials to the Montreal Embassy. You will receive a notice directly from them with the details of your Consulate Interview dates and required documentation. All the best!

Ah, but I am not a bureaucratic persona am I??

I just received this email from NVC:

Dear Sir/Madam:

All documentation necessary to complete the National Visa Center's processing of your case has been received. As soon as an interview date has been scheduled, the applicant, petitioner and attorney (if applicable) will be notified.

The applicant should NOT make any travel arrangements, sell property, or give up employment until the US Embassy or Consulate General has issued a visa.

The US Embassy or Consulate General may require additional documentation at the time of the interview.

CanadaBorder Crossing question
you know I went through months of being pulled over and grilled every time I went to visit my husband. I finally got a new passport with my married name and they didn't seem to connect the two - the old and the new. So, I started saying I was going to two towns, visiting my brother and sister-in-law (and my husband) they never let you say a whole lot so it just never got tacked on. Now I just say I'm going to the two towns and visiting my family. They're happy with that and I no longer have racing heart and fear when I pass. It is omission - but I cross and Lewiston and they had been so bad in the past that I NEVER want to get grilled again. I do; however, carry full "ties to Canada" binder with me fully updated every time.
The guys at Lewiston are just down right cruel. I am doing nothing wrong in followiing full proper immigration process. I refuse to put myself through that grilling any more.

OK, I just received an email and Interview Date letter late today at work.

June 28th - 8:00 a.m. YEEHAW!!

So I got questions. How do you try to project when to give notice for at work? plan for a move, etc. This date is roughly 2 weeks before my one year wedding anniversary. Would so love to be with my husband for good by July 16th. Can anyone give me some sense of timing on all of this?

CanadaBringing my car across the border on POE
I spoke to Handa Canada Finance today and told them my new address. They were fine with it. As I will now be in receipt of my CPP, which payments are made into the Canadian account that pays this loan, Honda Canada was fine with it.

I also thought there was some EPA sticker on the frame of the door but keep forgetting to look to see if it really is there.

Ah, this is all so confusing.

CanadaBringing my car across the border on POE
I just read one of the Consulate reviews and am having apoplexy.

I am to POE on Monday morning. My car, a Honda, is less than a year old (August 27, 2011). I do not have a letter regarding the emissions and when I spoke to the service people at my dealership they said I did not need one.

Please, please tell me the service people are right. I don't think I could handle not leaving on Monday.

CanadaVehicle
Don't know that I have the answers you need, depends on the state really. Go to the Motor Vehicle website. If it hasn't been classified as "totalled" by an insurance company then you just need a local garage to do a Safety Inspection on it. BUT, if it was classified as totalled you will need to do a Salvage Inspection, and those are only done in a few places in a state. Where that is done will be listed on the DMV website for the state.

You will need one or the other of those inspections in order to get insurance on the vehicle.

NOTE: you do have a specific time frame you need to be aware of. Do it all within that time frame and you probably can avoid being tested as a driver, etc.

CanadaAsked for I94
I was repeatedly refused an account with my husband's credit union. They seem totally put off dealing with any non-US citizen. The Bank Manager actually asked me for my US Passport. I quietly mentioned that I would have to be a US Citizen to have such an item... or at least a permenant resident as opposed to a conditional permanent resident. She had to think about that.

Good News is that I got my SSN last night and can now go to the DMV for that ID. With that she can't refuse to open the accounts. Hate hiding large sums of money for this long, but at least I THINK I have everything in place now LOL.

Or an ITIN.

what is an ITIN?

Thanks. We just figured that out.

I was trying to get a non-driver ID card and told I had to produce an I94
My kind husband reviewed the docs later and figured out it was the I551 so we're good to go.
I just need to wait til my SSN arrives.

Isn't it fun being a new arrival. Can't even open a bank account here yet.

CanadaWhat is process for reversing immigration, bringing US Citizen to Canada

I believe this belongs in the Canadian forums so if it is moved that would be good.

I have lived in the US for exactly one year today.  I will make no comment on my experiences except to ask my fellow members how I would go about reversing the process and instead moving me and my US husband to Canada.  I'm worried it would all be too onerous, however, I would like to know exactly what would be involved so that we can make an informed decision.  Thanks for any input you may be willing to offer.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionCertified copy of probation record - Canada

Thank-you! I didn't even think of the Commissionaires. I sent an email to PBC, but I do not have high hopes of a response.

Well I'm hoping I'm steering you in the right direction. Commissionnaires are all ex-military and they handle all the Parole stuff in my city. Post back on here what you find out but I think they would be a great place to start.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionCertified copy of probation record - Canada
I don't know if this will help. If you are talking about a Record in Ontario (although all provinces should be covered) - We recommend going through Commissionaires. They do all sorts of work as far as Parole issues are concerned. I work for a law firm and that's who we send people to for any Parole issues. Don't know if it helps - but they could certainly set you in the right direction if you are having problems sorting stuff out.

Do a google search for Commissionaires and get in touch with them to see if they will help.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionShould I be Concerned??? HELP

I sent in my I-751 Packet on April 10 and still have seen nothing to confirm they received it.  Now I'm worried.

I had received the Notice from Homeland Security to file, and we did so exactly 90 days before GC will expire.

The package was sent Certified Mail Receipt USPS to:

USCIS Vermont Service Center
75 Lower Welden Street
P.O. Box 200
St. Albans, VT 05479-0001

                                                              Attention: I-751 Filing

I keep checking my bank account too and there is no activity on processing the check either.

Should I be worried?

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionI-751 April 2014 Filers

Good Morning April filers!!  I haven't been on for a while... busy buying a home and moving.  I just had a good look at March filers progress.  All in all they are a much smaller group than us.  Of the Vermont filers, 8 have been approved - the last one was October 3rd, and 18 are still waiting for any news.  The way I'm viewing this is that we April filers, if we're lucky hahaha may be getting our approvals as a Christmas present!  it would not surprise me to see some not come through until January 2015.

I think we all just need to focus on other things for the time being... enjoy life and keep busy!  Whatever is going on in Vermont it certainly isn't I-751 approvals.  At least our letter grants us a full year before we start to sweat.

Wishing you all great blessings and a happy patent journey through all of this.
