PhilippinesI'll be a new father this July. Questions on CRBA, dual citizenship, birth certificate, etc

Thank you Bob & Joana for that very informative and detailed reply.  Based on what you've said, I don't think I'm going to try to rush a CRBA.  I'd rather let her rest and enjoy my short vacation with her and the baby.

Yes, I do think things would be easier if we were married but that's another story (we're still need to complete her annulment).  =/

Also, will I have to make a Affidavit or Acknowledgement of Paternity?  If so, how and where do I create it?

PhilippinesI'll be a new father this July. Questions on CRBA, dual citizenship, birth certificate, etc

Greetings everyone.  My future wife and I will be having a boy this July.  I have a few questions:

*  Dual Citizenship.  I would like my son to be a dual citizen (Philippines and US).  What would be the recommended procedure?  Would it be easier for him to get a RP passport first then US?  Or should I apply for CRBA first, get the US passport and then a RP passport for him?

*  Birth Certificate.  Since my lady and I aren't married yet, would my name be automatically put on the birth certificate?  Or would I undergo a DNA test first?

*  CRBA.  I will be in Manila when our son is born but will only be able to stay 2-3 weeks.  Would this be enough time to process or apply CRBA?  I really don't want to put her under too much stress after child birth.  Can I apply for this at the US embassy in Japan?  (I am a US Navy Sailor stationed in Japan).

Any help that you guys could give me on the above questions or any tips in general since this is my first child would be much appreciated.  Thank you!

PhilippinesDUAL CITIZENSHIP FOR NEWBORN (US & PHILIPPINES)

Hello everyone.  My girlfriend and I recently had our first child together this month.  I am a US citizen stationed in Yokosuka, Japan (US Navy) and she lives and gave birth in the Philippines.  I am in the process of preparing the paperwork for CRBA.  Should I have my son get a Philippine passport first and then me apply for CRBA for US citizenship?  That would make him a dual citizen correct?  Are there any benefits to this?  I thought I read somewhere that if he got USC first that we would have to pay a fee or something for him to stay in the Philippines.  Any advice is much appreciated!

PhilippinesCRBA Checklist: Proof of Citizenship - Are photocopies really necessary?

Yes it is necessary. We submitted un notarized photocopy before and it was not accepted

Thank you for the reply.  I'm trying to nit-pick my package as much as possible since I'm located in Japan and my fiance and newborn are in the Philippines.  I guess I'll be heading to the US Embassy in Tokyo to get the copies notarized!

PhilippinesCRBA Checklist: Proof of Citizenship - Are photocopies really necessary?

Hello all! I have a question concerning the my CRBA application. On the CRBA checklist provided on the US Embassy Manila website, under the PROOF OF IDENTITY AND PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP, it says "US Citizen parents must present his/her current and expired US passports and a photocopy of each passport and each page (notarized)."

Are the notarized copies necessary even if I'm providing all my original passports? The embassy is charging $50 for each notary.

What's your experience? Any help is appreciated!

PhilippinesDNA test for CRBA

Hello to all.  My fiance and I recently applied for a CRBA for our son.  The paperwork went well but the official said that we need to do a DNA test (even though we proved we were at the same place and location at conception).  Anyways, I searched the thread already and found posts but were already a year old so I was hoping for some updated information.

She lives in Philippines and I live in Japan.  I was not there for the application process when she was told about the DNA test.  I will arrive in Manila on January 15, 2014.  I understand the embassy does not order tests and I will have to contact one of the AABB accredited labs on the embassy page.

Can I contact the lab now and have them send a kit to the embassy in Manila?  Or do I have to go to the embassy first, show my face and then order it?  How much do kits cost?  I am only there for two weeks so I am hoping that is enough time to get things done.

Any help is appreciated.  Thanks in advance and have a happy new year.
