Europe & Eurasia (except the UK and Russia)Questions about dual citizenship
Ooops took me a little while to respond to this. To clarify things, apparently it only takes 5-6 months to gain citizenship to Belgium, threw a marriage. We were going to go about doing this but I'm still worried about how it would affect my US citizenship. Does anyone know if it will in any way?

Okay to sum it up here is our situation. My fiancee and I have filed and been approved for our K1 but now we're facing the citizenship problems. If she comes here and we're married (with her being Belgian) she has to give up her citizenship there? :/ What if things were to not work out, what comes then? Would she not be able to return to her country? We were wanting to both keep citizenship though and possibly myself get citizenship there also so that we could be free to live in either area depending on what we saw fit with our families etc. How would I be able to get citizenship there, and I can keep mine along with having theirs, correct? Any input is appreciated, thanks a lot.

Your SO will not become a US citizen just because she comes in on a K1 visa. To become a US citizen she must naturalize. That is something entirely different. When she gets her K1 approved she will get a visa to the US for the purpose of marrying you. After that she must file to adjust her status if she wants to stay. At that point she will get her "green card". That is the legal permanently residence status. She will still be a citizen of her home country. For that entire time she will still be a Belgian citizen and the only way that will change is if she files and is approved for naturalization.

Oh wow okay, thats great news then. In the meantime we were still curious about myself getting Belgian citizenship possibly. My entire family and myself are all going over there to visit and stay for a bit here at the end of March. After a couple weeks they are going back but I was wanting to stay until her paperwork and everything is finished up there but we were also hoping to maybe just stay a little longer to spend more time with her family too. I can only be there for 3 months though just like when she comes here I believe, but also just for the future in case we decide that we would like to go stay with her family for 6 months or something sometime over there it would be nice to at least have the option ya know? Is there any possible way for us to go about this or do you know by chance? lol thank god for VisaJourney though, its answered ohhhhh so many questions for us younger couples that really have absolutely no clue how this all works when coming into it.

My fiancee is Belgian and we would like to have our wedding there, and then come back to the US to live but we also would like to stay there for more than 90 days, are there any visa's for this? Also it would be nice for in the future when returning to see her family during summers or whenever.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionQuestion about the 129F after its been approved...
Hello, I was just wondering, after you submit your 129F and it is approved/sent to the applicants country, how do they contact your fiancee about it? Do they mail him/her, do they call? Email? I was just curious, and also once it arrives in their country, how long does it take for them to normally contact them, if they do contact you all that is. Thanks a ton

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhen filling in your 129F/ G25A do we have to do it by hand?
I was curious if we had to fill out all four forms of the G25A by hand or if we could fill them out like in the examples, print it, and then sign/date it. Thanks in advance!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresA few questions...
Okay yeah I like that idea, now my last question I think is about how long I can stay there without us being married then? We were wanting to spend some time there in Belgium before we came back here to the states.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresA few questions...
Okay great I'm glad to hear I could have dual citizenship because we'll obviously be wanting to see her family as much as we can too. Is there any deadline though when it comes to actually going TO that interview? I mean if she wanted to wait a month until lets say I'd be there, would that be a problem?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresA few questions...
Okay first off, I'd just like to say thanks, we used the site and our application was approved and now her package is there we just have to schedule the appointment which brings me to my first question, it doesn't say when we have to respond to the package by, we were talking about doing a wedding if not the only wedding over in Belgium where my fiancee currently is residing, my folks and myself are all going over towards the end of March and I heard that after its all in and you are issued the visa that you have 6 months to enter the country, is this also true? I couldn't find it on the guides :/

My next question which doesn't really pertain to the 129F was if we get married there, we were hoping to stay there until the end of summer which would be when I need to be back for work, can we only stay out of the country for 3 months? We thought about getting my citzenship there too just to have it, but I've heard mixed comments about getting dual citizenship. I was born in the states and always lived here, would I be able to keep my US citizenship and obtain belgian?

Thanks!

I'm not sure if there is deadline for sending packet 3 back to the consulate but the six months you refer to is how long you have to wait to enter the U.S. using the K1.

good luck

agree

Could someone tell me how I could go about extending this? sad.gif

I-129F petition approvals are good for four months but as long as you return the Packet 3 in a reasonable time, the Consular officer can simply extend the petition validity for another four months. This is not a worry. A two month delay in responding as instructed is not a problem.

Once the visa is in hand, she'll have six months to enter the US and 90 days to marry you in the USA.

How can I be sure that the consular officer can extend the petition validity? We haven't even spoken to a real person yet :/ Haha all they did was send us the packet of stuff, along with a 90 euro bill we need to pay and that was about it. To call them its 15 euro even here in Belgium and I don't know if its even who I need to contact about extending it...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion about times and deadlines...
Hey all, I don't know the exact number terms but we applied for our fiancee petition, which then was approved and sent to my fiancee here in Belgium. After talking about it, because myself and my family were going to be coming to visit her family and her during spring break, we decided that we would wait to put it in until I was here (I'm here for a couple months because work permits it this time of the year) Anyways we were told that we had like 6 months to respond about it and I just read somewhere that we really only had 4, and that it had to be DONE within 4, or else it has to be renewed. We have not had our appointment yet, and the other day we put in the papers from the packet they sent her about her biographical area, along with putting in to get her police record (she doesn't have one but we have to just show she doesn't obviously). Anyways, we were apart for almost 3 months last time she left and I think its getting somewhat close to 4 now and we've started the process but I'm worried about our deadlines, should I be? We're ready to get this all in and hopefully be married this summer but I'm really really stressed out about it. Any help is appreciated.

PS, also if its true that we do need to get it renewed, could someone even tell me how we would go about that? Should I be worried about having to wait even longer? Sigh, this process seems to be so difficult when you're having to just deal with real life issues along with it. :/
