Mexico, Latin & South AmericaHow did you work this?

Hey all...I was looking for some advice. I just thought about how when my fiance flys over, once he gets in American his Digicel phone won't work. He has a layover in NY before he gets to me in Portland, OR and we would like to make contact. Has anyone else had this problem and what did you do? I thought about sending him a prepaid cell phone, too little too late though because he will leave before the postal mail will ever reach him. I'm worried if he has any questions or something goes wrong at the POE he won't have a way to call me... It won't be the end of the world if he has no phone, but it would be a lot more convenient. Is there a place in Jamaica to by a prepaid phone that will work in America? Or what did anyone else do? Thanks All!! I'm just so glad he will be here soon (Dec. 2)!!!

Hey Tammy_Sheldon, Digicel Prepaid phone can work in the US. If your relative has a phone which support AT&T or T-mobile frequency bands, then his phone will be able to work because Digicel, T-mobile, & AT&T are GSM wireless carriers. I'd advice you to ask him to put enough credit on his phone, because if he's out of Jamaica it's considered Roaming and roaming chargers are really expensive. I'm speaking from experience because i too had a Digicel phone when i came to the US and it worked.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaHow did you work this?

Here's what I did:
- I got a family plan, and mailed him a SIM card (he wanted to use his own cell when he got here)
- I begged and pleaded for updates like "Landed" "off the plane" "entering customs - turning off the phone" while I waited for him to emerge...

Here's what he did:
- He put the SIM into his wallet
- He forgot all about it until I mentioned it as we were leaving the airport together - "Oh yeah....let me put that in here"

I know you're excited and anxious, but he's going to have a LOT to do when he goes through POE, and he'll have a lot of things to think about and make sure he does already without trying to juggle an unfamiliar cell phone. It will be difficult and LONG for you because you have nothing to do at this point but fret, but he'll have a long list of things he needs to take care of - If he gets everything all sorted (not just customs, but checking in to his next flight and getting his bags re-checked, changing terminals? Going through security? Finding his gate? etc) and still has time to call you, the airport is one of the few places left in the world where there are still pay phones. It's probably cheaper for him to spend a dollar or two using one of them to give you a ring while he waits to board his domestic connection. Also, while he's traveling, no news is good news. If he misses his flight etc, he'll have lots of time to call....

Together soon! Hang in there!

National Visa Center (Dept of State)I-864
Hi Mrs. Scott i'd be happy to answer your questions to the best of my knowledge.

Question 1: Should she mark "e"? It reads, I am the first of two joint sponsors. Initially, I marked "a". It says, I am the petitioner. I filed or am filing for the immigration of my relative.

ANS: If you friend is the petitioner for her husband then she should choose "a." You would choose "E" if she had two joint sponsors; in addition if her brother-in-law is the only joint sponsor, then his I-864 should have "D" checked.

Question 8: I am sponsoring the principal immigrant named in Part 2 above.
Should she mark no? The other sponsor is her husband's brother.

ANS: She should mark yes for this question because she is sponsoring the principal immigrant and they're not two joint sponsors.

Question 9: I am sponsoring the following family members immigrating at the same time or within six months of the principal immigrant named in Part 2 above.

ANS: If no one is immigrating with him, I.e "children" then you don't need to fill this part out.

Good luck to your friend on her journey.

Yes, the petitioner needs to provide Tax return transcripts, W2's and 6 most recent pay stubs.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresmarrying family members for green card
I'm new to VJ and this is the most ridiculous topic I've read so far. Chances of your bf getting caught is pretty high, because as someone else who replied to this topic said they do background checks and both people, and the checks are pretty thorough. That being said if caught he will be charged with marriage fraud, will lose his residency and will be deported. I'm pretty sure you don't want to be a part of that.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresG-325a

The G-325a used to print 4 pages, right?

Is it really only one page we need this time around?

Hey JAPrincess, the current G-325a form is only one page long.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedures287 Days for AOS Approval

The AOS package was received 01/05/2010

Our AOS interview was 04/12/10 in Orlando, Florida with an RFE which was fedex'd and delivered 04/29/2010.

On August 3, 2010 I contacted the USCIS Customer support number and asked why my case was 7 months and holding. USCIS sent me a letter with the type of service requested (Outside Normal Processing Times).

The letter stated, "Your case is currently under review. You should receive a decision or notice of other action within 60 days of the date of this letter."

On October 4th, 2010, I contacted the USCIS Customer support number and asked why my case was 9 months and holding.

Tier 2 USCIS said they would inform the office to update the file.

On October 5th, 2010, I started an INFOPASS appointment for October 18,2010.

On October 18th, 2010, We spoke to a person in the main lobby (did not get to speak to our interviewing agent) sitting behind a cubicle and he admitted that it was too long to process and he would speak to his supervisor. He stated we should now leave and check the USCIS website for Status.

October 19 2010 10:19 AM, Received email approval for the I-485.

I wonder if 60-90 days could have been shaved if I used INFOPASS in the beginning.

WOW!!! That was a long long long wait. Congratulations on your GC!!!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresIR1/CR1 timeline

I called the USCIS on 10/28/2010 because 5 months has passed without hearing anything on when the NOA2 will be approved. The USCIS informed me that they are 13 days behind on processing. So, hopefully I will hear something within the next 13 days. I hate this waiting and looking everday for some sign of progress and hearing or seeing nothing. It is like being mentally tortured. Does anyone else feel the same way?

Hey, I did feel that way when we filed the I-130 because it took a little over 5 months to be approved. Hope you hear something soon. This whole process can be torturing but it's a game of patience i suppose. Good luck!

US Citizenship General DiscussionFilling for Citizenship through 3 yrs marriage

Others are correct. For a reference, see the N-400, part 2.

http://www.uscis.gov.../form/N-400.pdf

He can become a citizen when he can honestly check one of the boxes on Part 2. Box A says:

I have been a lawful permanent resident of the United States for at least five years

Box B says:

I have been a lawful permanent resident of the United States for at least three years, and I have been married to and living with the same US Citizen for the last three years, and my spouse has been a US Citizen for the last three years.

The underlining is mine. In order to check box B, he must have been married to one particular US Citizen spouse for the full three year period immediately preceeding the day he sends the application off. It sounds like, in the case you describe, he'll be eligible to check box A before he'll be eligible to check box B.

Sounds Like that to me too. Thank you for the information. I suspected that was it and after research those where the answers I found as well but I just wanted to double check .

Thank You

US Citizenship General DiscussionFilling for Citizenship through 3 yrs marriage
This question is for a friend of mine. He is currently married to a USC and but probably will not be married long enough to apply for his naturalition through her. If he has his GC for 3 yrs and he is married to a different USC other than the one through which he got his GC can he still apply for his citizenship?

US Citizenship General DiscussionClarification on Citizenship based on 3 year marriage
I've been married for over three years now to a US Citizen. Ive had my permanent green card for the same amount of time. I just submitted my application for US Citizenship based on the 3 year rule to US Citizen. My wife now wants to get divorced. What will happen to my application? Will the 3year rule still apply to my case or will I have to wait the 5 years? Is there some type of waiver I can file?
