Heyyyy.....I'm a USC now!!!

I've described the ceremony on another thread......

Can somebody update me, please?? I'm useless at that stuff!!!

Hi mamasue, Congrats for your citizenship!!! I have my interview the next April 15, I am very excited about. I have a question for you. Why did your oath ceremony take so long after of the interview? I thought would be possible have the oath ceremony the same day of the interview.
Blessings

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionI-751 July 2011 Filers

Dude, can you see my picture or read my name? Not a dude!

No one who filed before me that is going through California failed to receive their card more than a two weeks after getting their confirmation letter! Last time I checked this is a public forum and this thread is specifically targeted to people who filed ROC in the month of July 2011, so since I fit in that category I shall continue to say what I feel is appropriate. Don't like it?? Don't read it!

CONGRATS!!!! We didn't sign up for texts so just have to wait for snail mail to get our good news.

I understand you; I am in the Seattle office too; and I feel is the slowest one.

Hi Everyone
Just I have an idea ; the people that don't find the case in the USCIS page; remember that the right number is in the biometrics letter o CR189; don' t put the number in the NOA1; because this isn't.
I hope this help you.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionRFE

Hey Everyone,

I know this has probably been discussed a thousand times, but i'm more wanting to vent than anything. I'm a bit annoyed that we got an RFE, it's almost like USCIS just wants to pick on us for being a younger couple or something like we can't have a legit marriage. We've gotten RFE's on like every step of the process we've done so far!!! Anyway, The information that I can remember sending was:

Joint Bank statements
A letter from my credit card saying hes an authorized user
Sent a letter from another store credit card showing both our names listed on the account
Proof of joint car insurance
Copy of about 20 various cards (Christmas, Thank you cards, etc) Most showing our address and showing addressed to both of us over the last couple years some even noted Christmas 2009 2010 etc.
Photos of us on various vacations/events etc over the last 2 years probably a total of 20 photos - Most were very noticeable where we were, Vegas Strip, Disney World Epcot ball... etc.
2 letters signed by family/friends attesting to the fact we have a legit relationship
Copy of 2008 Taxes (we hadn't done 2010 yet, and I couldn't find 2009 at the time so I know I can send that)
I sent a copy of our mortgage statement showing the same address to show we live in the house - this is only in my name as my Mom co-signed the mortgage and asked them to put the deed only in my name. You can also see the mortgage coming directly from our joint checking account.
Sent copies of both of our recent pay stubs showing the same address for both and both set up on direct deposit and even showed those direct deposits on the bank statement
I may have sent more this is just what I can think of off the top of my head...

The RFE states they want his birth certificate, I know we've sent this at LEAST twice before... but check we can send it again
The other two are basically proof of joint address and proof of joint funds....

As far as the bills, most are in my name because he didn't have credit at the time so it was easier. The cable bill can only be in one name so that can't be updated as it's on a contract, the water/sewer bill has to be in the name of who the home is deeded to, so that can't be changed. I haven't asked the electric company yet or the trash collection company, so I may be able to get it updated there but that would be after the RFE was sent, so who knows if that'll just raise more questions.

Cant sent proof of any children as we have none.

My car is just in my name, again the no credit thing. His car is just in his name because my Mom "gifted" it to him once it was paid off. I could probably get a letter to state so, I guess I could send copies of registration for both and send proof of the car insurance again so they know one car is mine and one is his? I have photos of both cars in front of OUR House I can send too!

I can send the tax years 2009-2010
I should be able to get proof of the health insurance showing both our names on it and life insurance showing each other as beneficiary, I just didn't have easy access to those and was rushed getting the info in last time.
We just came back from a trip to England so I can send proof of that, copies of our plane tickets, eurostar tickets, etc.

As far as additional info besides this, what else should I be sending? I mean I can send his drivers license showing the same address.. but with all the cards and everything else they probably have about 30 documented items showing the same address, we've lived here 3 years almost, i'm not sure what more they could need!? As far as the house, our realtor that helped us buy the house could probably send a letter saying we looked at houses together and he knows we live in the home together? The letters that both our family/friends sent mention the fact that we live together. I almost want to get anyone who has ever seen us together to write a letter and send it in! We've been together nearly 9 years, I hate the fact that 9 years together isn't good enough evidence!

Hi!

I strongly recommend send the driver licenses (both). This is the only document USCIS asked me after filing my I-751 since it seems they consider the best proof of joint address.

Hey Guys, have been lurking every few days but haven't posted for a while as I have been feeling really down. I was on cloud 9 to get NOA2 but its STILL NOT at NVC. I finally got ahold of CSC last week with the help of a fellow VJ'er from another thread only to be told it was still sitting in their mail room staging area and they had no idea when it would leave. this is 4 weeks from approval and I feel like our wedding date is slipping away. I am feeling so frustrated, angry, fed up with waiting and no one having any answers I just needed to rant and get some support for a minute. Every time you call these people its a different story, different time line, etc. so maddening mad.gif I know I should be grateful to be on this side but you hear about these horror stories of files getting lost or taking months to get to NVC and I am terrified. anybody think its still in a normal time frame and I am freaking out for no reason?? I am 2 days behind Debz approval so why not sent to NVC in same bunch???? Don't get me wrong really happy for Debs....just miserable in the wait. help....... blink.gif

NOVC ALREADY GOT MY CASE!!

Ok guys, for your information and in order you call to find out as well: my NOA2 is dated november 19,2007, Marc received the hard copy on November 24,2007 and the NVC received the case yesterday December 10,2007!!!, I hope you get good news as well, please dont desmay!!!

A lawyer is probably your best bet If you want to stay in USA and have the resources to pay the lawyer; if you came just to be with your fiancé and marry him and have no desire for the trouble of staying in USA, go home, I seem to see a probable defense under abused "fiancée", or being deceived by the petitioner, however you still have to answer your overstay, that is why I would suggest a lawyer, again if you want to stay, at any rate, if you want to come back, you have to have a clean record, and Slavery is over, (ie. Obama).

PhilippinesMedical Exam Requirements Bogota
Hi all,
Have the NOA2 and want to get started on the next steps.
Can someone give me an idea what new fees we have to look forward to, and for what? Any links to information would be appreciated; I can't seem to find any specifics in the guides.

Also, exactly what will the medical consist of (especially if anyone knows about here in Bogota)?
Is a lung X-ray always required? I am worried about that because my fiance is a smoker.

Thanks.

We told the woman there that we were going for a K visa and wanted to avoid the ridiculous fees they charge at the doctor's and what vaccinations would she recommend for an American visa. So Fernando got 6 vaccinations (I can tell you which ones exactly if you want to know) for a total of $293,000. We went to Dr Maria and were in and out in about 5 minutes--no additional vaccinations needed. Easy! good.gif

Oh and PS--he had no vaccination records. No problem if you go to the Red Cross and take that card to the medical.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVery New to this entire K1 Process (in Bogota)
Mostly for Big City Dave....

I think it is dawning on me what you wrote--What I understand is that when I go home to the States to visit my family this summer, my previous 2 years in Colombia will be wiped out? That is, when I return in August, it will be as if I have never been in Colombia before, even if the DCF is an option here (which I still don't think it is)? I start my "residency" in Colombia from that point?

For questions #1 & #2:

As Dave pointed out, you can likely make the process much shorter by marrying and filing overseas via Direct Consular Filing. I would use the above advice and research into it some more to see if you and your fiance prefer that option over the K-1, K-3, etc visas.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate it...I actually looked into DCF, because that seemed to be the easiest route, but read on many websites that that option is no longer available in Bogotá. Anyone know if that is true or not?

Hola a todos--
Especially to those doing this process in Bogotá!

I am going to start this whole process this summer, to bring my fiance to the US, and I have some questions about doing it right. My main thing is that I have lived in Colombia for the past 2 years teaching high school. It seems that most people on this forum are living in the US with finaces/ees in other countries. So one thing I am wondering is how this will affect me.
One thing I am concerned about is having all the possible forms I would need here with me in Colombia. Most tax records and such are in my parent's attic in the States. However, I will be in the States for about 5 weeks this summer. So:

1. Can someone please give me advice about ALL the documents I should bring back with me to Colombia for the entire process, so that I have them here when I need them? What should I have notarized? Do I need to have anything apostilled?

2. I-129F: I am also curious about how we will demonstrate "proof" of our relationship. I have been in Bogota since July 2006 and we work at a school here together. Obviously, I am not going to be able to show plane tickets/hotel receipts/letters/emails, etc. I have an apartment and we have a totally normal relationship, sending text messages, talking on the phone, going on dates. What on earth do I use as "proof"?

3. Affidavit of Support: Another thing I am concerned about is when I get to the affidavit segment of this journey, as I won't have worked in the US for 2 years. Last year, the school I worked at paid only about $1000 US a month, but with a $8500 bonus as the end of the year. This year, I'll have earned about $24,000 US. Will showing the contracts and pay stubs from these schools be sufficient to demonstrate my income? My income from the year before I came to Colombia was not very high, as I was finishing my Master's half the year. And....to make matters worse, next year I will be self-employed, as I have decided to tutor privately here instead of working at a school. I expect to earn at least $30,000 US doing so, but it will be off the books....so how do I prove it? Is there someway I can demonstrate my projected income as a NY public school teacher when I return to the US, which will be $52,000? How much does what he earns here factor in?

We plan to send the I-129F packet this summer, and to be in the US by summer 2009, so I can start teaching the new school year there. A year seems realistic based on timelines I have seen here...is it?

Thanks to anyone who can answer any questions...I really appreciate it. Good luck to all of you...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures...Totally confused...About to send I-129F Packet
Thank you all again for all the great advice. I so appreciate it. I will change everything over to my sister's address so everything is consistent and that will be an easy (relatively) solution to all of this.

K1 is definitely doable for you. Just file as if your sister's address is yours. You'll perhaps want to arrange for the post office to know that's your address, so she actually gets your mail. She can then courier it or repackage it for you and mail it. You have US domicile by virtue of your bank accounts, driver license and an address.

You are likely to need a co-sponsor because your income will not continue from the same source in the US and you'll still be in Columbia when she interviews for the visa. That's easy enough to deal with months from now.

I would simply follow the same procedures you would use if living in the US, with the exception of having your mail manually forwarded by your sister. If all goes well, you'll only get two notices and she can just hang onto them until you arrive. You won't need the originals in Columbia. Scanning or faxing will do.

Thank you so much for the sound (and quick!) advice. I really appreciate it, and feel relieve to know I won't have to start everything all over.

My only real question now is--though you may have just answered it--so, on all correspondence I am sending in the packet (cover letter, letter of intent, supplements, etc) I should list my sister's address as mine, with my "signature"? Just to make totally clear that that is where I want all correspondence sent?
I can also use her address as the answer to #14, fiance's intended address in the US, as we may spend time with her before going off to New York City to find an apartment.
And yes, I should have a reliable co-sponsor lined up already, as I know my Colombian income in the next year won't count for diddly.

Thanks so much....
sigh of relief...

Guys, I really appreciate the quick replies. Today was supposed to be "day to finish up the *%&$# I-129F packet" .....and now, needless to say, that is kind of stalled.

My address in the US was in New York City, but my roommate has since moved and so I can't use that address.
Like I said, I still receive mail at my parents' address, but as they will not take kindly to this engagement information, I will have to wait awhile to break it to them. That's why I thought of using my sister's address.
