any idea of the reasoning behind this? It seems silly to live on this side of the country and needing to spend the time/money to get all the way over there?

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionvisa interview location

hi all,

been trying to figure out where my interview will be scheduled for .. I am not there yet .. still waiting for NOA2 .. Jan 2 PD .. COME ON NEBRASKA !!

Anyways, I live in Vancouver and remember reading somewhere I would have to travel ALL the way to Montreal, even though it seems there is a perfectly good consulate here in my city?

Can I get some clarification ?

Thanks,

You all rock

Our PD was Jan.2 at NVC .. did a service request back in July and was told we were outside normal processing and that they were still doing security checks ..

I am now in the US visiting my hubby for the winter.. Is there ANYTHING I can do to get the process moving along?

Happy Birthday Meghan,

Did your wish come true?

No, unfortunately not. My husbands birthday is next week, so now we are wishing for that. Or you know, sooner would be fine too!

Hi all,

just ANOTHER Nebraska filer here .. PD Jan 2,2014 ..  I recently sent a service request in hopes to find some sort of clarity in all of this. But of course more confusion. Basically it said that we had not met the required security checks and they had no idea when it would.
Gotta love USCIS. So insightful..

Hoping to hear something in the next month.

Good luck all!

Hello,

I am wondering if the fact my husband has not filed his taxes for the last two years (he doesn't owe anything, he just never filed) him sponsoring me? He has the funds to cover the poverty guidelines, am wondering if that will get him approved? Or should I send in a Co-Sponsor form?

I'll use my sister in law and that won't have any affect on my chances of getting approved?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresUSC Abroad

"1. If the U.S. citizen petitioner resides abroad, it may be possible to process the I-130 at the USCIS overseas field office or, in an emergency, at a local U.S. Embassy or Consulate. (See my articles, Issues for U.S. Expats Filing a Form I-130, Immigrant Petition for Alien Relative and USCIS Beijing Filing Instructions for Form I-130, Petition for Alien Relative). Will some citizens move abroad just to expedite the I-130?"

Just wondering how long the US citizen must be living abroad to be able to expedite the I-130? My husband and I have been living in Mexico for 6 months (I am Canadian he is USC) are we able to file through consulate here or no?

I also found a really good article on the I-130 processing times were up to 13 months and are back down to 9 currently, yet the K-3 processing times were still around 6 months. It said the K-3 used to be obsolete since the times were quite similiar, but now it may be taking the lead? I guess the offices are focused more on DACA that I-130? Any thoughts on this?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWhat to send

Hi all,

getting together evidence and so far have skype convos, pictures, marriage certificate, flight itinerary, boarding passes, proof of joint bank account and our lease agreement. I also have a wedding invitation but am wondering if I should send it as well, my husband and I married 'legally' in April so we can start this forever long process, but the date on the wedding invitation is for Feb/2014 that is our 'unofficial' wedding. Will it seem odd that the dates don't match up, or this is normal for this type of situation and more evidence is better?

Thanks!

ps. I have about 40 pages of skype chats .. should I shorten this and just send a few? and keep the remaining for the interview?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresChecks

Hello everyone,

not sure if this is a silly question, and I can't find to seem an answer on google so I am going to ask anyway!

The checks I have from my bank account are the kind where I have to write in my name and address by hand, but on the website I believe it says the name must actually be printed on the check. Is this type of check acceptable or should I get a money order instead?

Thanks in advance!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMoney Order?

Hi All,

I am ALL set to send my I-130 dancin5hr.gif

My only issue is my husband and I are currently in Mexico (and will be until March) but we want to get this sent off ASAP. I was going to go to a Western Union here-located in a local bank.. but I read somewhere that the USCIS will not accept this as a form of payment unless it has been issued in the US?

I guess I am wondering if there is any truth to this .. and if so how do I get around this obstacle?

Thank you !!!

Hi all, filed an i-130 PD Jan 2.. so I filed a service request .. this was the response I got ... has anyone else experienced this or should I be freaking out?

We have received your inquiry stating that you believe your case is beyond our projected processing times. USCIS makes every effort to process cases within the projected timeframes and in the order in which they were received; however, your case has not cleared all required security checks at this time. We cannot provide a specific date on which a final decision will be made on your case.

thanks all.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresfiling i-485 after i-130

You would be adjusting status in country, so no going back for Consulate processing.

And I would be legally allowed in the US as long as my applications are pending .. and be able to work.

It sounds too good to be true?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresfiling i-485 after i-130

Hi All ..

I am just looking for a little bit of clarity on the subject .. the more I keep reading the more confused I become it seems ..

I am a Canadian citizen married to US citizen. We applied for i-130 and received NOA1 Jan 2, 2014. We are still waiting for out NOA2 unfortunately. The plan was for me to remain in Canada until the i130 went through and I would then join husband in US. Unfortunately that seemed pretty impossible to spend all that time apart so I came as a visitor for 6 months (for a winter in MN, crazy Canadian) >>

I have a friend in family law and she said that now that I am here I would be able to file an i485 and it could potentially speed up the process. I have been looking into it and the most exciting part for me would be being able to work while I am here with the EAD and I am not sure but would the i485 application mean I am able to remain in the US while my applications are going through?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresYes you can visit- IR1-CR1 version

Hi all,

have been reading too many posts and it seems just when I begin to feel good about my visit I read a bad one .. I just wanted to share my story and see what y'all think!

I am Canadian, husband is UCS currently in MN. We are waiting for our NOA2 currently and the plan was for me to remain in Canada and work until it's done but we have been missing each other terribly and I am now planning a visit to the US. I was going to do a week or two and then that just seemed like not enough so I was hoping to go for a few months. Max 4 .. I live with my parents here, so I don't have rent. I will be quitting my job but will hopefully get a letter from my boss that says I'll be able to return to work when I am back, and I have my car insurance/title, credit card bills, bank statements, and return ticket of course! What are the odds of me being aloud to go for say 4 months?

I plan to be polite and smile and all that jazz too!

Thanks all!

USCIS Service CentersCSC some sign of life
"USCIS Transfers Workload from California Service Center to Texas Service Center, USCIS press release announcing that on 3/8/13, USCIS transferred some casework from California Service Center to Texas Service Center to balance overall workload with processing capacity at the centers related to DACA and Form I-765 Application for Employment Authorization. AILA Doc. No. 13031245."

I am praying this does not mean all the July/August/Sept files were transferred to Texas where 2 years ago the average wait time was 1 year for those files that were transferred. A true black hole in USCIS.

Yeah, I'm not so sure I like this pattern.

I hope it is just "the new guy" grabbing a stack of applications that were from late nov-early december, enthusiastically working on them, and his slow, fat-a$$ed co-workers are just getting through the rest of the pile, and they'l start showing up soon.

I hope.

I like your optimism! I am hoping for the same! All we can do is hope and pray!!

USCIS Service CentersI-129F Delay at the CSC: A Comprehensive Analysis of the Data

No need to worry about the I-129F forms being sent to the Texas Service Center. Only some I-821Ds and some I-765s have been sent to the Texas Service Center. According to them, customers who's applications have been moved will receive a notification. You can see their post if you just google search "Workload Transfer from California Service Center to Texas Service Center".

Ahh great.. thanks!

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaMoving to Venezuela, but no visa yet - how to handle immigrations
Hello! I live in Caracas and have been here for 2 years. I flew into Caracas with 5 suitcases and I didn't claim anything on my customs form, since nothing was brand new. They never stopped me, and I was passed through customs quickly. As a missionary, we have missions trips from the USA that come down all the time and we never have problems in customs, and they always bring MANY suitcases of things to donate to the orphanage. You should be fine. Your one problem might be that sometimes the USA airline will not allow you to fly into Venezuela with a one-way ticket. I had to purchase a roundtrip ticket. Once I arrived to Caracas, 2 years ago, I applied for a Transuente visa that lasts one year. It costs around $1000. I have a contact that I can message you in private that can get it done for you, and save you days and days of waiting in lines. I met my fiancé in Venezuela, and we applied for our fiance (K-1) visa in September 2012. As soon as we are approved we will move to Minnesota and live in the States a few years. I understand how you want to improve your español and how you want to understand her culture better. Those are extremely important aspects of a successful marriage. But she also needs to learn your language and your culture. I have spent the first 2 years of our relationship in Venezuela and have learned to speak fluently and understand everything, and now it is my fiancé's turn to learn my language better and understand my culture. He has been to the USA over 20 times as a visitor, but you mentioned your fiance has not traveled. It is very important she learns about the USA culture, it eliminates many problems that intercultural marriages experience. If you need any help or have any questions, feel free to contact me. My fiance and I have many contacts in Caracas and would be happy to help you out!

Blessings!
