I would like to say everytime I come to the China section I never see much action going on here. I am also a memebr of CFL. I am not planning on spending much time there until after my approval at NVC.

I am curious about once done at NVC what is next top happen. Because then it is up to my wife t o complete the remaining things left I know.

I am willing to listen to anyone that wants to start talking about this. We are all a team so let us get this dead horse moving again. I know there is e good.gif good.gif good.gif enough of us from China to start getting some more value here.

I agree. My experience hasn't been all that smooth. I filed my AOS through an attorney in late August, and got my bio taken a month later in Sept. RFE response letter (for more support for my sponsor's tax return) was sent just a few days ago, and now I am waiting to hear what's going to happen next. It has been frustrating dealing with the attorney... the case was handed down to one of his assistants who pretty much has no idea what's going on. Looking back, I wish I did homework and DIY instead of hiring someone else who I obviously still don't trust... My case is very straight-forward with nothing to explain, and no in-between gaps or anything, but now I am stuck dealing with the law office most of the time, to push my case forward. Well well well, that's my experience so far with the AOS.

Phillip2, sorry, I don't have anything to add to the NVC topic...

Linko9 is wifey from China also?

Hi hi hi! Yes, I am the wifey from China. star_smile.gif

Ni Hao Ma!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm sorry I thought you were hubby.
Your wifey though right?
You guys are in New York?
We live in North Carolina.

Wifey is from Guangzhou we
have a home there near the Pearl
River. Where are you from?

Have you meet many chinese in
New York?. Wifey cant work legal
yet so far now she is teaching chinese
to a family from Korea here. Very sweet
family. They call wifey Aunt Jing and
call me Uncle Josey biggrin.gif .

Hows your k visa going? We have had
many problems, just now able to file aos.

Ha, thanks!! I've actually lived in the States for quite a while (undergrad and grad school)... from Beijing originally. Hubby and I live in Manhattan, and it's a hectic place (lots of grumpy people, hahaha)... So yea I am currently on an H1B (working already), so just doing the AOS thing here, going GREEN from H1B through marriage (instead of through employment, which takes FOREVER)... My hubby taught English in China a few years ago, and absolutely LOVED the experience. I've never been to Guangzhou. Have you guys ever considered moving back to the Far East to live? star_smile.gif star_smile.gif

Wow from BJ? Whats a H1B? Sounds like a shorter time frame is it? I agree with hubby I LOVED it there to. And yes we will be going back to live. Wifey paid off our home in gaungzhou before she came here. Its a long story but we didnt meet on some date site. Wifey wants to live and work here until we get older then go home to GZ. She is the boss so what she wants is what we will do. Did hubby teach in BJ?. I have had offers to teach english in China. Had offers to come to HK and the mainland in the field I know best. Wifey says no for now.

Our family is in Xian. Dad has been very sick for the last two years. We just found out he passed away. He was 84 and I loved him very much. We will be gone for a while. Wifeys family (my family) wants us to be there. Take care.Wish you and hubby all the best!!!!!!!!!!

Hi! Sorry to hear about your father... Yes, H1B is a work visa. It's for a 6-year period, and can be extended beyond the 6-yr time frame if the applicant files for permanent residence 1 yr before the expiration date. My hubby taught in BJ, and really enjoyed the experience...

ChinaChina specific: Birth Certificate problem
QUOTE (valenbb @ Jul 25 2008, 08:21 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
For my wife's Birth Certificate, the notary officer asked for the household registration and made a photocopy. Like coolgt said,
if she is unmarried then she would still be in her parents household book. If she is married to a Chinese National, then her
name is removed from her parents' and then added to her husband's. Both of you will need to continue convincing the parents.

I hope that all will work out for the best! Don't give up!

You can get it from a local police office, and pay about 200 RMB to get an official translated copy that is also notorized. It doesn't take long, 2 business days...

You can try to have your green card issued in your married name prior to your approval, that is what I did.
1) I am not sure about an infopass but it is worth a try.
2) if you get an interview, just mention it to the IO.

That's a good idea. Thanks!! yes.gif good.gif

since you already have your green card and it is in your maiden name I wouldn't bother with the passport. I don't think the Chinese consulate would add the adendum unless your green card is in your married name anyway. Your next cheap opportunity to change your last name will be when you file to remove conditions. There is a form you can file and submit with a fee to do it now. (I don't recall the number you might ask on CFL someone there will know) The main thing is to book any international airline tickets in the same name as your passport. Otherwise the airline won't let you board the plane.

Perfect, thanks!

QUOTE (warpedbored @ Oct 28 2008, 07:09 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Actually the Chinese consulate won't change your last name but they will put an adendum in your passport that says something like "the name on this passport is also XXXXXXX. You must go to the consulate in person to have this done. If you plan on traveling outside the country you will need have it done if you want to book the airline ticket in your married name. Otherwise just book the ticket in your maiden name. You won't have any trouble coming back into the US. They are more interested in your green card.

Thanks so much for the info! Also, the name on my green card will be my maiden name... It was some BS advice my attorney gave me. I should have never hired him (have I known this site sooner)! So now the only official document with my married name is our marriage certificate. Do you think that's a problem?

Thanks so much.

Has anyone changed their names in their Chinese passport? I have changed my name legally after getting married, though I have not obtained a new Chinese passport with the name... not sure if it's necessary or even possible to have a non-Chinese last name in the passport. Anyone experienced this??

Thanks in advance!!

For this, you would contact a Chinese Embassy or Consulate directly. They've stopped doing passport renewals etc. by mail so you'll have to go in person. They may answer your question on the phone or email.

Great. Thanks!! star_smile.gif It's just kind of annoying b/c their business hours are so short (gov't... what else do I expect) and I will have to take a day off to go in, but yea it's worth checking. Thanks!

Claudeth and I have had some discussions about having a baby. I am a bit worried about it because I am 59. My Father died when he was 53 and I was only 9 and I was cheated from being able to grow up with him. I don't want that to happen but then again, I would love to share the blessing of a child with my wonderful wife, best friend and life's companion.

What do you think?

You can definitely do it if you are ready and willing. Do keep in mind that the probabilities for complications for the fetus increases exponentially as the mother ages. You would probably be required to go through a genetics analysis and undergo a number of exams...

I do wish you the very best as you consider taking on life's greatest role as a parent! It will be the most rewarding experience.

but Claudeth is still in her "prime" at the ripe old age of 27.... smile.gif

I see! Well, then scientifically, it's totally fine. Just all the emotional factors that others have discussed here... It's tough and it's deeply personal... I don't doubt that your wife can guide your child brilliantly through life, though the child may miss out by not having you there for all the activities and future milestones (marriage/grand children)...
