Hello to everyone,

First let me start off by saying, Godspeed to all of us newbies, and to those of you whose journey is near completion, best of luck with your new spouses.

Now i just finished reading threads related to IDOCARE and her "relentlessness", according to others. all I can say is I was very disturbed with the bashing name -calling and so forth. my father taught me one valuable lesson in life, and that was, " if i tell you something once, it is up to you to decide whether or not you will follow my advice. You see, he feels that the only way to teach a child is to let that child "hit the brick wall". Now, i know most will understand what I mean.

On the other hand he also feels that his advice is the only "right advice". When I informed them(parents) of my decision to pursue this relationship, of course they voiced their concerns, but i think they realized that they have reared a strong, independent, focused woman, one who never does things without much thought and prayer.

I say all of this to say, none of us know what God has in store for us, we just have to be prayer-filled vessels, receptive to His word. Ola tells me all the time, "God, sees my heart", and i in turn reply, "Yes, he does, so if you intend on screwing me around, he will exact due justice". Yes, we have disagreements, all the time, because i am the type that asks questions, over and over again, until i am satisfied. He is learning to appreciate that in me.

We are not a perfect race. In the words of one my favorites, "That which does not kill me, can only make me stronger".
I dont pray for failure, I pray for God's blessings to be abundant in my life, and it is my belief that Ola is one of them.
i wont go into details to validate our relationship, because that is between God, Ola, and Dana.

Instead of trying to analyze others and their experience, maybe we should just listen to each other, there is nothing wrong with venting. we all have a choice, no one forces us to read threads, if you dont like it, skip it!

Peace to all, and have a blessed evening!

P.S. Dont forget to say your prayers!

"Mrs. Famodun"

With all of the Nigerian Bashing in this forum, I want to take the time to tell everyone that I love my NIGERIAN Husband. If I had the choice I would do it again. Like every marriage we have our ups and downs. We cherish our good times and WORK THROUGH the bad. NO marriage is without some sort of trouble, its how you handle the trouble that makes the difference. As many of you know I was married before and it was not by any means easy on me and almost cost me my life. I was given a second chance, and I told GOD that if I lived through that mess that it was because he meant for me to be here on this Earth. I took that bad experience and I turned my life around. I was at rock bottom and trying to climb back up when I met my NIGERIAN Husband. He knew that I was penniless he knew I had 3 kids, he knew that getting involved with me was not going to be easy for him, I was guarded. He was so kind an patient with me. I repeatedly asked GOD for signs that I was destined to be with this man. GOD would send me signs, and I would say, was that a sign? I need another just to make sure and I would get another. I prayed about this man daily, was this what I was suposed to do? Guide me Heavenly Father, please let me make no mistake, I have 3 children who rely on me with thier little lives. Guide me he did. When I did not know where the money would come from to go see my NIGERIAN Husband the first time, I prayed and GOD provided. That first trip was so wonderful neither one of us expected the deep conection that we had. We had been talking for months on the phone but that first meeting was so POWERFULL. When I had to leave it was very hard for both of us. Over a period of 2 years I went to see him 4 times, as much as I could afford. The last trip was for his interview. I took the time to get to know this man who woulld come to be my Husband. Since he has been here we have had some troubles but we love each other so we take the time to work through it. I am not afraid to tell the world that I love my NIGERIAN Husband!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope that everyone here can proudly stand up beside thier NIGERIAN Spouses. NIGERIANS often are LABELED as scammers because of some bad examples. Think about the bad seeds in all cultures, scams do not just come out of NIGERIA there are lots of other countries inculding our own. Before you point a finger at someone else remember there are four more pointing back at you.

WHO WAS SAYING NASTY THINGS ABOU NIGERIANS??? REALLY IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT THEY SAY GOES TO SHOW HOW IGNORANT SOME PPL CAN BE...WISHING YOU AND YOURS A LIFETIME OF HAPPINESS!!!!!! GOD BLESS:)

Africa: Sub-SaharanThe need for clarity: from the perspective of a happily married Nigerian man
QUOTE (chinemeze @ Jun 17 2008, 11:21 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
It is with utmost joy and happiness that I am writing this note. I am one of those that do enjoy coming to this site to share in the joys, sorrows, agonies and ultimately hapiness of everyones journey. I cannot deny that everybody has a unique and personal experience as regards their journey with the immigration process. I do respect them for that and cannot interject into their own life experiences.

That being said, I cannot call myself a true son of the soil if i keep quiet and see my name and those of so many millions being dragged in the mud. It is believed that all of us are adults and that whatever choices that we make we have to be able to live with them irrespective of the outcome.

So be it known, that before I married my beautiful wife and had our son, I had dated women from different ethnic backgrounds, races and creeds. I came out of those relationships with so much knowledge, both good and bad. It is my belief that I should have learnt from my experiences and be able to use them for my future benefit. I am not going to come out here and start bashing older women, or younger women, or skinny women or plus sized women just because out of my own poor decision-making I found myself in a quagmire.

In summary, I am a Nigerian man and very proud of who I am. It is not all Nigerian men that are scammers. And finally, if you dare get into a serious relationship without proper investigation and information, then dont blame anybody. We have a saying " a he-goat that goes to a fight with his horns, has to make sure that he has a strong and sturdy neck".

WELL SAID..I AGREE WITH YOU 100% ..

Hey, this thread excited me! I'm a huge advocate for Houston and would encourage anyone to make a move here.

I have been living in Houston for about a year and half now. It is a GREAT CITY. It has kind of a professional feel to it and it is a fast city, but at the same time it is also low key. It offers the big city life at a small town price. I would recommend Houston to anyone. The winters are very mild compared to Cincinnati/Kentucky winters. This past winter I was fine with just wearing a light jacket. Houston has always been known to have horrible, dreadful summers but honestly, this is my second summer here and I have yet to see the horrible humidity that they speak of. Even my friends and co-workers have been telling me the summers have been mild recently.

Houston is huge and very expansive so having a good means of transportation is very important. Public transportation is almost non-existent and just be prepared to drive everywhere. Be sure to keep your car insurance current because they people around here have big flashy cars and love to drive like speed demons in them. There's always some sort of major accident. Speaking of driving, Houston has some of the worst traffic in the country and it would be beneficial to you if you could find schools, daycares, work, etc close to the area where you intend to live. Houston is so big that it is basically broken off into big chunks (or sub-cities). You have the NW side, SW side, West side, etc and all of them have their own hub areas.

There are many things to do in Houston and you will never run out of weekend activities. This past week there was a huge Colombian festival and there are MANY reggae, caribbean, and African festivals throughout the year. Houston is very diverse and there isn't really a Black, Hispanic, White section of town....ALL areas are mixed up. There is a district called Chinatown where you will find a lot of Asians and even the street signs in that area are written in Chinese. There are more than 22 malls here and you will find any and every store here. Any store, bank, mall, or public area you go into you will see different people and hear many different languages. With that said, there are many different ethnic restaurants and you will always find different foods available. We just went to an Afghan restaurant last week. smile.gif

You will find some of the worst school districts here and some of the top school districts. The three top school districts to focus on are Klein Independent School District, Cypress Fairbanks ISD (my kids are in this one), and Katy ISD. If you get your children into any of those districts, then you can be sure they are getting a great education. Houston isn't very expensive at all and even at the height of the recent gas increases the gas pretty much hovered around $3.75. Before the big foreclosure mess, the houses were really cheap so now houses are even cheaper. A house that costs $110,000 will get you in a very decent middle class area. Some of the areas you might want to focus on are Cypress Fairbanks (Cy-Fair...this area is booming), Jersey Village ( a bit expensive, but older and very beautiful), and anywhere that is on the NW and West sides of town.

As state before, Houston has a HUGE African population and everyday I see all sorts of African flags plastered on cars. The African population is mainly concentrated on the SW side of town in the Bellaire and Alief areas. There are many many Nigerians here and there are several Nigerian churches, restaurants, nightclubs, and supermarkets on that side of town. The Nigerian associations are big here and your husband will definately have no trouble finding some of his people to hang with.

BTW, about jobs...it can be hard to find a job and it can be really easy. It really just depends on what area you are looking in. You have to remember that there are more than 4 million people here and we all need jobs so some jobs such as office work will have pretty steep competition. On the other hand, I know people who have gotten a job on the spot. There are definately a lot of job openings and the job market isn't lacking here. A good place to start is www.chron.com ...that is where most jobs are posted. It's the website of Houton's major newspaper. It took me about 4 months to find a permanant job here.

I could go on and on foreve and feel free to ask questions. I used to hang out in the Cinicinnati/KY area and it is definately a change of scenery, but if you are open minded then you will have no problem with coming to Houston. Houston was a good start for my husband because he got to see a lot of the big city events without being overwhelmed and he has even connected with a fairly large Liberian community.

WOW!!!!! AFTER READING THIS YOU MAKE ME WANT TO SUGGEST HOUSTON TX TO MY SO....AND IVE BEEN STUCK ON ATL FOR THE PAST 3 YEARS...HMMMMM IM GONNA HAVE TO GOOGLE OR WIKIPEDIA HOUSTON...LOL biggrin.gif
