US Embassy and Consulate Discussionfrustrated delay in getting visa
Hi
Im very frstrated and disappointed right now with a feeling of hopelessness!!! Our situation was the same as a previous post.. we were given our firt interview date for 04 AUG 2008 but that was cancelled and we were given a new date of 18 AUG 2008 at 0800. My fience arrived at 0700 and waited to be called, she was called to window #6 she said the interviewer asked all the normal questions ie when we met, were we met, how many time Ive been there to see her and if we were planning to get married. After the interview she was told and given an appointment to pick up her visa @ 3pm on 20rAUG2008. she went home finished packing and said her goodby's and returned to bangkok. When she arrived she waited for her name to be called she went to the window and a Thai man told her the Embassy would be in contact with her, they didn't say when or how long. I tried to contact them to findout more info to see if she should wait in Bangkok or go back home but had no luck I've emailed the visa unit and I;ve not heard back yet. Frustrated with the lack of communication I went to my congressmans office to see if the could findout anything for us. They called me today and said all the Embassy said was that the case was still in adminastrative review (what the heck does that mean) (and why would they tell her to come back on 20 AUG 2008 @3pm to pick up the visa if there were issues)So we have just been left hanging not knowing what to do or expect or how long its going to take!!! this is just CRUSHING, like my fieance said "its like they handed me a piece of candy and then took it away". any thoughts or comments would be grat. I need a shoulder!!

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionadmin processing update
Hi everybody

well its been a while since I last posted but nothing really has been going on. I've just been in the hold pattern waiting on the ebasy to to do there thing. I went to Thailand at the end of Sep to see if I could get any more info from them in person....what a waste of time, but any way I still had a good time.

Well the latest news is that my Fiance ( Noy) received a phone call from the embasy about 3 weeks a go they asked her some question about our relationship like... did she know my home phone number, had I meet her parents and did they like me, how big is the house you will live in how many rooms and how much do we talk and how do we comunicate ect. and then said we will be in contact with you.

well yesterday after I sent an e-mail to the embasey (using the special email address) I received the following reply

"Dear Sir:

Thank you for your email. The IV Unit is now processing the K-1 visa for Ms. Suphan Saenghiran at the moment. Please allow some days. Once the visa is issued and ready for pick up, we will contact the applicant by telephone as soon as possible.

Regards,

Correspondence Unit"

and then a few hours after getting the email Noy called me to say the embasey called her and said her visa was ready to be picked up could she come today (which was friday at 12pm her time) she told them she couldn't because she was home in Phichit and there reply was ok how about Monday and she said yes.

I am cautiouly optomistc at this point because what happend after her 1st interview. and I don't want the jinx us so I wont relax completly until she calls me and says she has the visa in her hand!!!!!

I'll keep you all posted... cross your fingers!!!!!

Good Morning

Well I received a phone call from my congresswoman this morning. She made contact with the embassy on friday this was her secound inquiry with them. I hope the fact that they kept her passport and the fact they require nothing else from us means that it might be something as simple as a name check, because she has a common Thai last name, I've heard that this can produce "false hits" of which they (the embassy) is required to look into. Sooo... a little bit of info is better than nothing. I'll keep everyone informed.

Sorry to hear that. You'll get more answers here in the Thailand thread as there is a person in the same boat as you on this thread.
Post your situation there and they may have better answers for you.
And yes, I agree, that is incredibly stupid that they would tell your fiance to pick up her visa and then not even call her to let her know it's in AR. That's the US govt. and the idiots that work at the embassy, for you though.

Here's the thread:

http://www.visajourn...h...&start=3450

thanks I'll give that a try, I sure hope this works it self out soon because this sucks

I have a question about Packet 3. Do I understand the instructions correctly that the ONLY thing to be returned to the embassy is Checklist (but not accompanying documentation), DS-230 Part I, two passport photos and copy of passport photo page.

My confusion is on the word "checklist" - it's unclear if that means everything on the checklist, or just the checklist itself.

Many thanks

We are just sending the list itself and not the supporting documentation. Step 3 says to bring all the OTHER items to the interview. (It doesn't say bring a copy of everything to the interview, too.) Some things are originals and that might be the reason that they don't require mailing.

I also noted that it appears that you do not have to have the medical exam done before sending the form anymore. That's a change from the old form I think.

yea you get all the medical documents and the location were the exam can be done in packet 4.

You make sure you /her have gathered all the documents that are on the checklist, once you have and you have checked all the boxes on your "checklist " you mail only the checklist. then youwill get the packet 4 with your interview date. When you go in for your interview you will bring all of your documents with you. I hope this helps

my fiance arrived here on oct 29, we were married on nov. 8

question on the new medical exam for TB
i hear there is some place to get it done for free,
like at the health department. we have no health insurance now, so it would help us.
any ideas?
thanks!

Hi Jer

Congratulations on your marriage! Give your local health department a call and ask them what they charge, if anything. Often times they will use a sliding scale and some do do it for free. They can also give any needed immunizations and give you official documentation. It still has to be transcribed by a civil surgeon onto the USCIS's form, though. There's been info from others on this site about a doc who will sign off if you fax or mail the documents to them in Texas for about $20 or so.

well she went back to the embassy and she gave them her and her daughters passports and all they said was they will call her when it ready. I guess they have to put the visa's in their passports, but that shouldn't be a big deal and shouldn'take very long???? anyone have any thoughts on this? AND.... how do you guys read this email from the embassy??
Dear Sir:

Thank you for your email. The IV Unit is now processing the K-1 visa for Ms. Suphan at the moment. Please allow some days. Once the visa is issued and ready for pick up, we will contact the applicant by telephone as soon as possible.

Working...

She went to work at McDonalds yesterday supposedly the coffee maker but one she arrived, she said she was lugging around heavy heavy bags of fries (and she's stong as an ox) and deep frying them. She said her hands are all sore and red now (likely grease splatter). Apparently there are no safe work conditions over there. I told her she can quit (I told her not to bother but if she must, give it a run).

She's looked for jobs but no luck. If only she could find a decent job but no high school and minimal computer but OK english (enough to communicate and understand most everything minus a few words we work around) she's pretty competent.

She's a hard worker but just can't land a decent job.... No wonder so many want to leave. Her niece is getting 50 cents an hour at McDonalds.

Hey, did I say the wait was KILLING ME?????? grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

So my confusion is no sin sod from what I understand but she said it would be better me being farang, etc. I think I'll find a happy medium... maybe 100k they pay for wedding with that and I bu 3 baht of gold. That seems easier to swallow, I guess. During the negotiations, I'll go in and ask what the tradition is, then I'll hear the honest answer. I think they'll be easy on me. I understand she wants max for her family but at the same time she feels horrible I have to pay and it's only me (since with farang families, every man for himself with no one in my family giving a rip).

She said if I don't have it, don't worry...her coming here is most important. I want to be sure everyone is happy and I don't make them feel low.

Now if she can only find some kind of job...working at a restaurant or something. WIth the low pay, even the bus cuts into profits a great deal given the low wages there. She did the sweat shop thing for 6 years.. I dunno...it tires me....

I guess it's not uncommon to charge farang a bit more. Do you have ANY Thai friend that is OLDER than you (close to her parents age) that could negotiate for you? That's perfectly OK if you do! It's normal and keeps you above the fray. Otherwise don't negotiate TOO hard, but also avoid any outward displays of wealth.

What city do you live in?

Its all about what you can afford... don't be pressured to pay something thats going to hurt you just explain to her this is all I can afford and she will understand and she will let her family know. 100k and 3baht gold is reasonable, you/they have to take into consideration how you have already helped out each month and in the future.. when my cousin got married to his Thai gf it started out real hi and then after some talk it came down to about the 100k 3 baht gold and food and drink for the wedding. and thats how it was for my fieance and my self. the only differance is my fiance's parrents gave the money back to us thats the option they have which was nice on their part they didn't have to they could have kept the money.

I know this was a big fear when my fiancee did hers, and she works in hair/nail salons, and hadn't been keeping track exactly where she'd worked and most are out of business.

well it started with when she was asked how many ladies worked there she told them the # and then he asked any men work there she replied yes the owner / boss and a driver.... why did they have a driver he asked... because the shop has no laundry and they have mak mak towels and uniforms that needs to be washed every day and the driver takes and picks up the laundry every day. oh ok he replied all this was on the first interview which led to the secound interview about 2 weeks later that lasted over 2 hour.......

Mine was going to school off and on, but also the only job she held was helping her mom who owned some properties and motorbikes on Phuket. She didn't provide any proof of this or evidence, and they didn't even ask her.
Wonder why it was such a big deal for Hilton. Hilton, did they say why?

It all stems from the fact that she was working at a massage shop a lagit one... she has cetificates and all and certified in facial massage and facials, no hanky panky... so I know where they are going with this, they're concerned / rulling out prostitution. and everything is subjective on the part of the interviewer. but this is what pisses me off. just because a girl works at a massage shop doesn't make them a prostitute, but this is what you have to deal with. I questioned her about putting down that she worked there because of this very reason but her response to me was "why should I lie I have done nothing wrong" so I said yea its better to tell the truth....but now I'm questioning that, you know you do your best to do the right thing by being honnest and it seems you get punished for it... I don't know. Whats youalls feelings on this I would like to hear espasally from the members that have been around for awhile have you heard or seen this happen before if so what was the out come??

Goodluck Hilton. My fiance was told they would contact her in three weeks which is coming up this Tuesday. Let me know what happens.

I just want to say thanks, and to give the list a further update... My Fiance was asked to return she was interview for over 2 hours... the main focus was where she worked over 2 years ago. she said they were very nice and polite about everything they had her write a statement about what she told them was true.. when the interview concluded they gave her the standard paper wth OTHER checked and administrative processing below that, gave her passport back and told her when they call her back in to bring that paper. They did not give a time line on when they would call her. so... thats the short and skeinney of it all to this point.... still in the holding pattern.

Hi

if your asking me,.... they kept my fiance's passport and they gave her orginal appointment card back to her and thats it. I feel your pain, .. hang in there!!!

I'm in the same boat as you. I had posted my issues a while back. Well, my case is on AP for almost 6 months now...Sep 12th will be exact. I already had my congresswoman notified the embassy twice and still got same reply. I had email the embassy 7 to 8 times as well and still the same. Hopefully, I will hear something from them soon.

Whoops, got cut off there.

Hilton...

I think you need to either re-read what I wrote, or choose a different word other than critical, as saying I am being critical of him is inaccurate.

In terms of things being confusing during this process, believe me I agree. However, what is confusing about asking the SAME question that has already been answered? I think you are slightly confused and need to re-read on page 231 of this thread how it was discussed.

He asked whether he could get the police report and medical BEFORE the NOA2 is issued.
This question has already been asked by him, and it's already been answered clearly. So why ask the exact same question when you've already got your answer?

So instead of jumping down my throat claiming I'm being critical of people because I used capital letters to emphasize certain words. Would it be better if I lied, and said "Good question raptorea, this has never been answered before, let me tell you the answer?"
No of course not, which is why I said "This question has already been asked by you and we already answered you. In fact we discussed this in detail".

Hilton, take it how you want to take it, as frankly it's not my concern nor is it in my agenda to appease you. If you felt I was being "critical" of raptorea, then that's your personal opinion and I can respect that. My opinion is that I wasn't being critical, and instead I was being honest and that I was confused as to WHY he would ask the EXACT same question four days after he already asked it and received a fairly detailed answer.

Another thing hilton;

I think that you are offended because you feel as though I was criticizing raptorea. This is not the case. I was not criticizing him.
If you would prefer I repost my original response to his asking the question two times, I will submit it as edited.

Raptorea,

You already asked this question four days ago smile.gif kicking.gif and we already answered you. wink.gif tongue.gif
In fact we discussed this in detail. heart.gif rose.gif

Sorry if it seemed that I was jumping down your throat that was not my intention at all and maybe I should have used a different word.... as critical may have been to harsh so for that I Apologize! All I'm saying is that this whole process puts us all on edge and that even though he asked the question earlyer he felt as though he needed clarification or something or he would not have asked it again and I think in some cases maybe its just to confirm. But I understand your point and its not my intention to put you down or to start a confrontation!!! we are all in this together and on the same side. This site is a great source for information and we value your input and knollage.
Thanks

I re-read what I wrote and realized I was being harsh in my reply to you. I was just EXTREMELY grumpy yesterday and probably shouldn't have said anything at all. Then I tried to be comical at the end by re-posting what I had wrote and using smiley faces but then realized it just looked like I was being a smartass, which wasn't my intention. So sorry to you too.

And raptorea, don't apologize, I posted my response to you asking twice more out of confusion than anything. I wasn't upset, just didn't understand why you'd think you'd get a different answer, but if you needed more clarification, then alright.
I could have phrased my response to you better.
I

No sweat!! don't worry about it!!

Hi All,
Question can the medical and police record be done before noa2 is issued? yes or no. thank you

Raptore,

You ALREADY asked this question four days ago, and we ALREADY answered you. In fact, we had a fairly lengthy conversation about this...

Stop being so critical towards people, this can be confusing stuff and people just want to make sure they are doing things correctly.

Damn, that royally sucks. I'd be outraged if it happened to me (and our timeline are identical in regards to the interview).

I'm afraid I can't offer any advice, but really hope it clears up quickly. I think just a few pages back someone mentioned it took 6 months to get through administrative review, and I know the BKK embassy is stingy with information and prefers to keep people in the dark rather than let them know what's going on and what they can expect.

For your email to the embassy, did you use the "magic" bkk2 address? I could never get a response from the address published on their site.

What is the "magic" BKK2 e-mail address?

What does the bkk2 address do for you, has anyone used it with any sucsess???

Yes we've had success with it, otherwise it wouldn't be "magic" smile.gif
Good luck and you do know the correct format required to send an email to the embassy and get a response, correct? If you don't format it correctly you just get an automated response.

yes I beleve it should read " secound or third (or what ever numer of times ) attempt bkk case # and name" correct?

Sort of, but not really. I'd use this exact format.

5th (or however many you have sent) IV Inquiry BNK # here FIANCE NAME (applicant)
so it should look like this:

5th IV Inquiry BNK2008xxxxxx BRITNEY SPEARS (applicant)

Ok Thanks I'll give that a try but is it BNK or BKK I've been using BKK
