HEY CSC WOULD YOU WAKE UP ALREADY SO WE HAVE SOMETHING TO DO!!!!

Sheesh... people... so insensitive !!

It's true that for a while it was my first thought when I woke up in the morning. I'd be so excited to go see how many approvals there had been the night before.

Now... not so much. And yet I cant stay away.

it's like a sick addiction...

One would think I have nothing better to do.... not true. whistling.gif

Well a week has gone by and not a single person approved from VJ. Date has moved back about 10 days now sad.gif I see that VSC managed to get a couple people approved....Maybe the people in California are just too laid back. It's all that "medical marjuana" they are all smokin dope and eating munchies and not focused on anything other than them moving their hand back and forth infront of their face thinkin wow.....this is trippy.

LOL!!! don't panic just yet!! VSC has only approved two in the same time!!!! Although I do like your medical marijuana theory....

ready for me throw another curve ball into our wait?? American Thanksgiving is next week... that means they'll be shut down for a few more days! aren't I the bearer of good news tongue.gif

OMG shut your face! Just Kidding!

I was laughing at myself this morning thinking about them all sitting there with their bongs and someone yelling "puff, puff, pass" hahahaha!

I actually don't mind them being shut down for Thanksgiving as I will be partaking in some pumpkin pie, way too much cool whip on it, the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade and probably about 8 movies thanks to Netflix! John will be experiencing his first Thanksgiving...he'll like it...the man LOVES to eat!

LOL... I'm sorry!!!! hahaha...

I do love that idea though of puff puff pass.... they could turn it into a game... like musical chairs, or should we say musical marijuana... if you don't get the bong, you've got to go approve a packet, then you get another chance for a hit off the bong.... believe it or not I think approval numbers would start to soar!!!

Enjoy your first Thanksgiving John! I myself am flying my American fiancee up here to visit me in Canada during American Thanksgiving, as I myself the Canadian went to America during Canadian Thanksgiving

not since I started watching it. Ive seen slow weeks but not that slow.

So it says that at CSC, no visa whatsoever - from any class - has been approved from September applicants??

Just for validation purposes, does it say the sae thing for VSC?

it says that there have been 0 applicants let alone approvals, now we all know that that is false... and that's both CSC and VSC .... so I'm wondering if they aren't updating it or something... I actually have no clue... I just want my stupid NOA2 already!!

it's just an anomaly that there are 0's for the month of September... I'm sure we'll be getting our happy news soon!!

yeah that is odd & interesting... If the lack of approvals continues for a while, I might have to start stalking that page indeed, cos Igors list is way boring these days. blink.gif

Are these data only about 129F or all visas? I wonder if they started massively working on a different type because of a seasonal thing...

all visa's ... you can track every different visa that's available, both at CSC and VSC... not the best stats but still one more thing to look at

have any of you looked on the USCIS website lately? usually when I go on to check my status (ohhh 6-9 times a day tongue.gif) I always take a second to look at the number of applications under the "view national volumes and trends" link... it's weird they are showing no data for September of 09 (don't panic, I know they haven't lost our applications) it's showing 0's across the board which makes me wonder if they are pausing to do some house cleaning or something... clear up all the old files before they start processing new cases.... This is all conjuncture of course, I've got no clue... but if it's true I sure think they picked a terrible time to do it!! LOL

we'll get our NOA2's soon!!! (I hope!) I can't wait to marry my beautiful fiancee so they'd better hurry up, or they'll have one angry applicant on their hands!!!! LOL!! j/k....

oh well!!

I'm not from Canada so I'm not gunna be much help except for sticking up for making wedding plans "early" tongue.gif

I too started planning my wedding AGES ago. We filed in late Feb 09 set a tentative date for Nov 09.. thinking this was plenty of time. By June we still hadn't heard anything and were REALLY freaking out... I'd also booked my flight because it was cheaper when I did.. and that flight was booked 12 Sept 09... I was told that it would take 6 months. Only after filing, and finding this website did I find out that it CAN be six months but it's typically longer.

Anyway my FH and I set June 30th as our "need NOA2" by date. If we didn't get it by then, we would move my flight back. The night of June 30 I received my NOA2 by email. Not long after that (you'll have to check my signature or timeline) I got P3. P3 took a while to get together but we set the deadline (again) of July 30th to have it sent by, and we were *fingers crossed* that I'd get an appointment in August sometime. Turned out that it took an extra week (so early August) to send P3 but 2 days or so after sending it I received P4. My interview was set for 25 August 2009 at 10am.

While waiting for the interview my FH paid for the reception hall in full he was that confident. My sister and her husband booked flights from Germany (were they will be around my wedding time) to come to my wedding, my bridesmaids have ordered their dresses, my sister has bought her dress,... things are in motion. i was scared, don't get me wrong, but I was also determined.

So it's the 27th August today, and here I sit, waiting for my Visa to be sent in the mail because I got APPROVED! I am catching my Sept 12 flight, I am sticking with my Nov 7 wedding date and it took almost 6 months to the day for me to get my Visa.

So I suppose what I'm trying to say is there's nothing wrong with planning. My sister and her hubby could have changed flights. My FH and i would be getting married at SOME stage so the dresses weren't wasted... and I have my wedding dress already and it's being altered so everything is transferable...

Stick with it. Double check everything. Have someone else read over the forms and the correspondence to make sure you didn't miss anything (I had my mum check some things and my FH check others) and also, as a matter of note, we had NO RFE's which I think helped, had we, might have been a difft story.

Good luck!!

Thank you to all of you!!! Both for your encouragement and for your caution. I do value both. I know it's a gamble and I could end up having to move the date but we'll see I guess! I already know that the venue we're looking at for the reception can easily be changed to another date as my fiancee is involved with the organization we're looking at using....

I guess we'll just cross our fingers and move on in faith!!

Based on previous posts, getting married prior to recieving your K1 will cause you lots of aggravation. I read were a couple were married in India (due to local customs) while waiting on a K1 approval..When they got the K1 approval and got to the embassy for interview were denied and had to wait 3 years for a new application..They were trying to appeal it and hired a lawyer but, I am not sure how it ended up.. I would play it on the safe side and wait until you recieve the NA02 then plan your wedding..USCIS is like a machine, if you break a link - you will be back at the starting line again..They can actually deny you for up to 10 years for falsifying a federal document (i.e applying for a Fiance visa when you are already married). It's not worth the gamble

-Be patient and good luck..

Yeah I understand... patience is key.... but part of me just wants to plan so we can move forward.... I hate being in limbo!!! It is a strain on the relationship that I don't really like (it's hard enough that we have to live apart!!!)

the joy of working with a government I suppose....

You can avoid these kinds of scheduling conflicts by not planning a wedding without knowing when (or if) you'll get the visa. Even USCIS tells you not to make plans like this.

My advice would be to allow for PLENTY (I mean PLENTY) of time if you're going to insist on planning a wedding. What was your estimated wedding date?

We're thinking the 22nd of May, 2010 which is 269 days from today. Based upon the research I've done on here by looking at the previous 20 cases sent to the same processing center (California), same consulate (Vancouver Canada) the average time from NOA1 to Visa interview is about 170 days. We are mailing the application package this week so we should have about 100 day cushion... simply based on the averages.... I know this is not a perfect way to plan things but still we want to have a traditional wedding, not just a JOP at the local courthouse...

While I don't recommend making UNCHANGEABLE plans. You should make 100% sure that the package you send in and also when you get to the consulate stage YOU COVER EVERYTHING leaving nothing out.

That's what we are trying to do... make sure we dont leave anything out.... I'm confident that I will be accepted for the Visa, that is why we are moving forward with our wedding plans... I know that this might be a little foolish as no one is guaranteed a visa but I think I pass all the requirements needed.... I do not have any skeletons in my closet... no previous marriages... dui's .... anything like that.... so I'm just hoping it all works out....

Hey, I was wondering what will happen if I don't get my K-1 in time for the wedding date we have planned?? Is there any way for me to move to the US and get married without the K-1??? Can I just change the process from K-1 to K-3 (I believe it's a K-3) I am trying to do the whole application thing without a lawyer but early in the process I did call one immigration lawyer who said that what I'm describing here is indeed possible but she didn't say how... she wanted me to retain her services at a fee of $3500 CDN and I figured that was a waste of money....

you have all been EXTREMELY helpful in the past and I'm very thankful for this website!! It has made this whole process a heck of a lot easier! Please let me know!!!

thanks for your time!!

Hey everyone... I know that this will probably be in the wrong topic but I'm not sure...

I was just curious about how accurate the timelines really are on here.... are the estimated times fairly close to the real dates for the next step of the journey? I know the estimated times fluctuate as the different centers process more or less applications but I'm just curious to see how accurate it really is...

so if you don't mind sharing your experience, I would greatly appreciate it!!!!!

anything to get a little peace of mind throughout this whole ordeal!

1. K-1 applicants cross the border provided they have enought ties to Canada and they get a border person who is not a jerk. See member Flames9 signature with details.

2. K-1 visa ends up being more expensive and longer. Why?> Because once you're here, you have to adjust status and that's another 1K or so. OH! and you cannot work on this visa until you recevie your employment auth. So fi working is a concern, I say noooooo to ths K type visas

My take? The CR-1 is, by far; the best visa available. Entry opportunities apply as well.

Best of luck.

On the flip side, the K-1 is a quicker option to get into the U.S. based upon the time lines I've seen.....

They mention the need for income on arrival; so the K-1, although "quicker" (not by much lately), ends up being too much hassle.

True they mentioned the desire to work, but the number one priority is to be together, and if you look at the time line for a CR-1 visa they are extremely long, especially if your petition has to go to VSC.... not that we need to argue over which visa is better, all we are trying to show is the fact that there are pro's and con's to each visa and it's a matter of figuring out which one is the best for your individual circumstance. My experience will be different then your experience, that's the joy of all of this!!

Anyways, OP, as a Canadian applicant I agree with one of the above posters who said if you are from the west you would be better off in the long run to apply for a K-1, Montreal is notoriously slow in processing applications whereas Vancouver seems to be much quicker...... best of luck and keep your time line filled in!!!

I have been here everyday pretty much since I joined in August. I have been studying the k-1 and the CR-1 options and reading everyone's advice and interpretations.

We have not filed for anything yet as I don't know which option works best.

I have a number of questions if any of you are bored and can answer them?

I am Canadian, he is U.S.

1) If we file for the K-1 visa, I can't enter the U.S. until it's approved right? THAT IS NOT CORRECT, YOU CAN VISIT THE U.S. AS LONG AS YOU HAVE TIES BRINGING YOU BACK TO CANADA (i.e. A LETTER FROM WORK/SCHOOL THAT SORT OF THING) ALTHOUGH THE LAST TIME I VISITED THE U.S. THE GUY AT CUSTOMS DIDN'T EVEN ASK ME A SINGLE QUESTION, JUST CAN I SEE YOUR PASSPORT.... IF YOU DO GO THIS ROUTE, DO NOT LIE TO THE AGENTS. BE HONEST, BE BRIEF, AND HAVE LOTS OF TIES TO CANADA So it takes approx how many months until I can?

Then when it is approved, I can enter the U.S and then you have 90 days to marry. During this time I can't leave the U.S. THAT IS CORRECT

2)After you are married, I can apply for AOS then I can get a ssn and start my job search right? How long does that take approx? WHILE I HAVEN'T DONE THIS PART OF THE JOURNEY YET, I CAN STILL SAY YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET YOUR PAPERS IN ROUGHLY 2-3 MONTHS YOU APPLY FOR YOUR A.O.S. AND AT THE SAME TIME APPLY FOR AN E.A.D. (WHICH WILL LET YOU WORK) AND AN A.P. (WHICH WILL LET YOU COME BACK TO CANADA) THESE ARE THE TWO PAPERS THAT TAKE 2-3 MONTHS, THE ACTUAL A.O.S. WILL TAKE LONGER

Option CR-1 I'D LOVE TO HELP YOU WITH THIS BUT I HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE ON THE CR-1

I enter the u.s. and get married. Can I go back to Canada and work until the CR-1 is approved? If so, how long does that take? Can I enter into the U.S. back and forth during my visa wait, Or do I stay in the u.s. do an a.o.s and wait for a ssn so I can work? How long would that take?

Sorry for all of the questions, but I have no idea what option to choose. Number one priority is to be together in the U.S. and for me to find a job as soon as I can. I have older children in Canada and would want to go back and forth to visit them of course.

THANKS!

Don't stress!! that's my only other piece of advice, this whole thing isn't as hard as it's made out to be... just be patient and trust visajourney!!! I don't know where I'd be without this website!!!

Hi, I am a Canadian citizen who is about to get engaged to my American girlfriend around Christmas time 2009. I will be visiting her for 2 weeks with the intent to get engaged and then come back to Canada. Do I need to disclose this information at the POE? Also, do I need any paperwork to do this? Now onto my k-1 visa question. We plan on getting married in her hometown in the states, have our honeymoon, and then come back to Canada. Do I need any immigration forms like the k-1 in order to get married, even though we will not be living in the US?

There has been so much written about this by actual US-Can couples that you should get better answers by searching for those threads & chatting them up.

There have been too many intricacies regarding what they will do or ask at the border to both the USC and Canadians to mention.

Canadians can usually go freely (with restrictions) across the border but once you've filed any kind of fiancée or spouse visa those restrictions seem to multiply.

it's true, however the last time I entered the US they border guard didn't even ask me a single question... just can I see your passport... no business or pleasure like they usually do... and of course I was all prepared with letters from my school and work etc... so I guess I'd say be prepared for the worst and hope for the best.... it'll all work out

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsApproved!
Thanks for everyone that helped to calm my nerves a couple of weeks ago (for that timing part of my nerves, I've literally worried myself sick over other stuff). :) My fiance saw that we were approved online and we should be hearing more through the mail soon. It's funny because I dreamt we got a response last night. Good timing as well because I had to order new copies of my birth certificate and I'd just received both, as well as gone to the police station to request the criminal record check (which is supposedly something that only takes two weeks, but I thought I needed to give my fingerprints for it). So excited and nervous!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsVisa Approval!
My fiancé and I had our interview at the Vancouver us consulate today and we were approved! For me the medical exam was worse than the interview because the exam had four hours of waiting and getting poked at (I have a fear of doctor exams so it was hard). So glad to finally be finished with this step of the process and extremely relieved to have a result. The move won't be for a couple of months as I have a contract to complete and still have to figure out what I'm doing with all my stuff. I'm sure I'll still need help from this site as there will be more paperwork yet to come once I'm on the other side of the border. :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWrong Service Center?
Good to know.. Glad I found this site; I have several relatives that got married (also to Californians, but I met my fiance when he lived in Colorado), but they did it in the shadier way of getting married before doing any paper work so I couldn't ask them a lot about the process. We'd rather go the straight and narrow way. (And also didn't know that people could do that, I'd think it'd cause issues?)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWrong Service Center?
It looks like you are all right - I checked the NOA and it seems to have gone to the California service center. Of course, I know that's not a guarantee that it will be "speedy", but feel better about having it there than texas. :P

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWrong Service Center?
Thanks for the quick replies, that makes me feel a bit better. :) I don't have the copy of the NOA he showed me, here at work, but I'll look later.

Curious though, if they don't process in Texas, then why is it listed as one of the service centers?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWrong Service Center?
Has anyone here addressed their letters of intent to the wrong service center? My fiance is in California, but we didn't realize until now that supposedly you need to put the service center you want to send it to on the letter, not the place you're sending the I-129f (Texas in this case). We're really nervous now because we were hoping to go by the California service center average time (5 months or so).. While texas is supposedly an average of 18 months, according to the USCIS website. :( We've been together for 10 years long-distance, filed for the I-129F in late October and got our NOA on October 25th. Anyone here with a recent approval/second notice of action through Texas? How long did it take?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPolice certificate?
Hi everyone, I have another question.

When I emailed my local police as to how long a check would take, they told me that it was around 3-4 weeks (or longer if issues, but I've never had any run-ins with the law, myself). That's a decent amount of time, so I was curious whether anyone here got their certificates in advance? How long are they generally good for, if there's an expiry? Or should I just wait like the consulate suggested? Unfortunately patience isn't one of my top virtues, but would rather not screw anything up or jinx myself.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresEvidence for interview?
BBCC- I'm actually in Calgary, and yes this is a K-1, but thanks anyway. :)

charlie - Bank statements/paypal is a good idea, good thinking.. I've made a lot of purchases on my trips and have sent/been sent money a few times.. We're actually done with the USCIS now and dealing with the NVC and probably the US consulate.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresEvidence for interview?
Hi again, everyone.

Now that my fiance and I have received our NOA2, I'm thinking ahead to our requirements for the Interview. It mentions requiring relationship evidence, though my fiance and I already added quite a bit to our original petition filing. Would the information contained in that packet (over a dozen photos of us, plane tickets/memorabilia, passports with stamps, a list of chat logs over the years (time/filesize)) be alright with the addition of the following?

- List of all skype calls over the last few years (we don't skype daily, but still have accumulated a decent amount).
- List of more recent IM conversation times.
- Some of our email correspondence (same, but I do have a lot of e-cards he's sent me and some other things).
- Correspondence with our families (also limited, but his dad got our accommodations for my visit to see his family last Thanksgiving and forwarded us the reservation)
- Receipt, appraisal and photo of the engagement ring.
- More photos hopefully next month when I visit him.
- A few physical cards I received, which are hidden someplace. :P
- The required letter from him of his intent, but maybe I could write one as well.

It's a bit tough thinking of non-digital forms since we originally met online so mostly keep our daily conversations through IM and Skype. Will these be enough or can anyone suggest other things I could look into for evidence (we also use facebook so there's potential there as well).

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVisiting the US while applying for K1
I have a question to add, I wonder if printed pay stubs would work as evidence? For some reason I stopped getting the standard paystubs through the mail in February and they're slow to fix it, but my work has an area that allows you to print them. Nervous about my own trip even though I haven't had any past issues, but this will be a connecting flight..

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTravel while petitioning /applying for K-1
I've visited my fiance twice since we applied for the visa.. Second visit connected in Vancouver and I did get drilled a bit more than I do at Calgary (asked who was moving, when was our wedding, what are our jobs, last visit date, etc, and also reminded me that an overstay would mess with getting a green card). Possibly a Vancouver thing but it may have also been because I was really nervous and briefly messed up a couple of questions as a result. But you can still visit. However, it's up to the discretion of the officer interviewing you as to whether you'll be allowed into the United States or not. I brought my work contract and HR time off request as proof of ties, but ended up not having to show anything.
