CanadaCheque question...
Um a bank would be a good place to start. Here's how it works at Chase. You give them the check, let's say for $100. They give you $100 US and make the adjustments on your account afterwords. They will apply the fee and exchange rate to your checking account a few days later. Pretty easy.

CanadaCanada EI HELP
HI,

I moved to the US in November and enrolled in EI. I have been sending cards back and I am completely up to date. I recently received my EAD and thought that my EI payments would be back dated to when I arrived in the US. She told me that they will only pay out from the start date on my EAD and not from when in enrolled in EI. So it seems as if I will only get paid weekly starting now and get nothing for the 3 months I wasn't able to work. Can someone clarify for me?

I just want to add that if you actually tried to close your account in the US because youre moving to another country where there is no coverage for that company, they dont even penalize you. (ie. I got out of Tmobile bec they dont have coverage in Toronto)

Rogers doesnt even care if they dont have coverage in the US. They still make you fork over the termination fee :P

Ya, I heard that from Rogers too. The charged me. Have the got the money? No.

USC hubby and I don't drink anyways. No advantage for us here.

Don't live in the east so the price differential don't benefit us.

I can see the advantage of the US over Canada here, but not enough to label Canada as the Soviet Canuckistan.

I'm not sure how the prices of consumer goods, determined by PRIVATE companies, has anything to do with the Canadian government having our best interest in mind? Please do explain.

Cell phone companies are regulated by the government. The insane taxes put on alcohol are set by, you got it, the government. The price of beer is the price of beer...its the taxes that double the cost. Private companies are free to charge what ever they want, and if the Canadian people think paying twice as much for the same thing is fair then I guess we the people are the MORONS.

Is that any worse than paying taxes for roads to be repaired that you don't use or for schools to be built that your kids won't attend? :)

The only thing that annoyed me while my wife was in Canada was having to go to a LCBO or Beer Store and get there a lot earlier than 2am if I wanted anything?

That's the worst. No beer after 9 or 10 pm. Just crazy haha

Lol Just wait till there's a gap in your health insurance and a testicle falls out or something, you'll be wishing you were paying more for beer haha

True, but in a way it's better than paying for your brain transplant with a my taxes.

CanadaWhy Canada Sucks....
First off I'm Canadian. I live in the US and couldn't be happier. The only thing I miss really are the friends and family that are living up there. The Canadian Government has removed it's grip from my balls and it feels great. Here's a little list or the things I love about the American way of life, compared to that of the Republic of Soviet Canuckistan.

1. Did you enjoy paying $40 for a case of Bud Light? No, I'd much rather go to walmart and pay $11.99.

2. Did you like paying $35 for a round-trip from Toronto to Niagara and the 407? No, considering I can do the same trip here in Illinois for about $5.

3. Is it fair that Rogers can charge a $400 Early Termination Fee to cancel a cell phone plan? No, when the most they can charge here is $175.

I could go on for days but I think you get me point. Canadians (myself included) take it up the #### on a daily basis. And what do we do, sit back and take it, because the government has our best interests in mind, right?

Any other Canadians with me here?

CanadaDriving Abstract, Renewing CDN License and Other Legalities
Every state is different and sometimes what you read online isn't exactly right. I would contact the Secretary of State in Florida and ask them you question directly. I'm moving to Chicago at the end of the month (hopefully) and I was told that as an Ontario DL holder I would looked at as if I am an out-of-state-applicant. So, all I need is my SSN, some immigration docs and proof of residence. No green card, no EAD ect.

CanadaCanadian EI and the IRS
Hi,

I know as a LPR of the US I have to report all worldwide income on my IRS Tax return. Money was skimmed of of each check by the Canadian Government so I assume the I have paid all taxes due north of the border. My question is will I get taxed again by the US or am I simply reporting this income to the IRS.

Any guidance would be great!

We contacted my fiancees congresswomen last week and we spoke with a family friend who works at the mexican consulate in LA that knows someone at the DOS, so that may have help us. I dunno. Hopefully the mail comes soon!

Congrats on the interview! If you don't mind me asking, what information did you give in your letter and did you mail or email?

Nothing too special. Just explained the situation, how long we've been waiting and the fact that montreal has been awful. What we really asked was to have our case switched to vancouver and breifly mentioned that if they could help us with montreal. I don't know if they actually helped though because we havent heard back from them, but it does seem like something weird is going on. My advice is just to stay busy, make some phone calls and write some emails. Attempting to take some control of the situation gave me some peace knowing that I wasn't entirely at their mercy.

Another question: I got a response from the Consulate about the photos for DS 156. Operator 5 said, "You can attach it". I'm not sure if that means I should attach it or I can just bring them with me to the interview. So I fired another e-mail to clarify.

Did anyone attach photos to the DS 156 they sent in in response to P3? Thanks.

Tina

I didnt have to send in the 156, but I didnt send any photos with my packet.

It's all very confusing because on one page under photographs, it does say two photos will be requested at the interview. I'm assuming that those are for the two copies of DS 156 they wanted. Therefore if we attached it, we won't need to bring it with us to the interview because they already have it?

Unless it takes forever to get the interview and they require you to get new photos done...

How can you be required to take new photos? How would they know when they were taken?

Either way, photos are NOT "required" in the P3. However, I am sure if they were sent in that would be fine too. Entirely up to you.

How do you guys think it works. Do you think it's first come first serve based on the order the receive your P3 or do you think it's based on your MTL case #? I also think they must book must interview dates at the start of each month? What do u think?

I have the confirmation just not the application.

I have sent a question to MTL...still awaiting response.

Tina

Oh well if you haven't sent anything to them don't worry. The first page of the P3 will say that you need to submit these forms:

Checklist
DS-156
DS-156K
DS-160 (confirmation receipt)
DS-230 Part One

So, if the confirmation is all you have then don't worry cause that's all you need. I just send mine in last month and everything is cool

So you didn't send the confirmation in? If not, I dont think it'll be a big deal - just bring it to the interview. Call the DOS at 202-663-1225 and see if they have received your P3 and if you've been cleared for an interview. If you've been cleared everything is OK.

You need to send the confirmation page for the 160 in with your P3. The form it self is submitted electronically, so no need to bring a copy with you as they already have it.
