Canadajust got married don't know what to do please help
Her nickname is Donna Nguyen - that is a vietnamese name. The first name is used by thousands of immigrants who have first names that American/Canadians can not pronounce. Vietnamese normally don't name their second gen kids names they would give them in vietnam, as they want them to adjust.

Anyway, I don't have to defend myself at all - I know I am right. I've been on the internet too long, I know WAY too many Vietnamese, and after 5 months she is still ###### around? She's not hard to read.

I'm willing to bet anything on me being completely correct on my assumptions.

Also please point out where I was racist - I'd like to let my Jewish wife know asap that I am racist if you can see anything. Thanks.

I know the Canada forum is lovey dovey and is supposed to help people... but I can't help but say it. I really can't stop myself: You're an idiot.

You clearly can't READ, you are clearly trying to scam the system and find an "easy way out."
When you came to Canada as an immigrant, did you do the same thing?

You're going to find the US is not forgiving - and pretending to be a harmless and clueless Asian immigrant will NOT get you past a USCIS AOS interview.

There, I said it. You can all relax now.

CanadaPassporte Renewal?
I have my outside Canada passport renewal all complete, minus the picture portion.

It claims I need a "commercial photographer" to take the pictures. Does this mean I can not use Costco or a USPS office? What constitutes a Commercial Photog?

Thank you for those who can read and offered good advice. I will let you know the result I get from the consulate.

CanadaMajor Passport and Family Death issue
My grandfather passed away this week after a long hospital battle.

The funeral is this weekend and my family has asked that I fly up to be there. I want to go, but here is the issue: I sent my passport in for renewal 2 weeks ago and it is not processed yet. I only have my greencard. I don't even have a birth certificate because I sent it in like 5 copies for all my immigration stuff.

What are my options? I need to leave TOMORROW if I am going to go.

"Trader Joe's" which has a few locations around the US has a LOT of Canadian items you might miss in a larger chain store.

My parents periodically ship me Old Dutch dill pickle chips. For Christmas, Sara bought me a case of C-Plus. I can't live without those things. wink.gif

Sorry I can't read today...looks like u did call. i always had a good experience with USCIS so I think I would call just to verify.

If you have the patience and can't deal with mis-information line, infopass it. They can update it pretty easily from there.

Yeah there's a house party near me too, but I'm just not outgoing enough to go to a complete stranger's house without knowing one other person, I'm too shy

For me it's more about not getting raped. I am a huge fan of being alive also - and I prefer not to go to a weird persons house and get raped and killed. There are weird Canadians, too.

CanadaLose weight Canada
I won't get into too much detail but i wanted to outline my battle with weight over the years.

I was 180 in highschool and a track member. I played Rugby and ran daily. Afterwards I got a desk job and ate double cheeseburgers with bacon every day, and 6-12 cokes a day. I gained 180lb in a year. I doubled my weight.

It took 2 years before I did anything about it. After 2 years of working on Atkins, I lost 155lbs.
Then I got married. I went from 205 to 245 in a year. Since being married I have battled on and off with my weight.

Recently I committed to a lifestyle change before new years. I cut out red meat and pork completely. I am sticking to as much 'real' food as possible and I try to work out on a semi regular basis. I am down 20lb so far, and hoping to drop another 20 by August (when I visit my parents)

For anyone else who may run into this situation (probably no one ever again) I contacted the RCMP recruiting office and they said some recruiters allow you to use your US license, but require you obtain a Canadian before you are fully hired.

CanadaLicense Question
QUOTE (Kathryn41 @ Jul 6 2009, 06:01 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I think this begs a bigger question . . if you pass the RCMP exam and are accepted I doubt you would be able to remain resident in the US and would have to move back to Canada. Is this what you are anticipating?

Yes it is. However this is around a 1 year process, and I am not anticipating having a yes or no until I have everything squared away down here.
So that is a moot point.

(unless I am missing something and the RCMP have a detachment near Mexico? hehe)
bradcanuckMaleCanada2009-07-06 18:02:00
CanadaLicense Question
I am going to Vancouver to visit family in August. While there I am going to take the RCMP written exam. One of the requirements of the exam is that I have a valid BC drivers license.
I have my "N" permit, but this license expired NEARLY 3 years ago. I am still eligible to renew my license BEFORE October 2, 2009 and continue to get my class 5. However, calling ICBC I was informed I would need to surrender my CA license during renewal and I would need to be a BC resident to be able to get the card.

Anyone have any experience with this or any ideas on how to get around it? I don't want to claim to be a resident and then reactivate my status in Canada - it would really mess up my tax situation (as I am sure you all know). More importantly, I can't lose my CA license. So could I just claim I have no current license and be on my merry way with a renewal?

CanadaEmployment Question
Happy to help. I know its in our nature (for some reason everyone here is a worrier) to worry about every minute detail and rehearse all of our options and ideas for interviews, border crossings etc. However the CDN job is nothing to even add to your list of concerns. So try to let that bit slip so you can be neurotic about something else in its place. kicking.gif

CanadaEmployment Question
I was told by my green card interview giver that this was perfectly and 100% legal. I told him I had been doing this for about 2 years - and he said "Okay." and stamped the paperwork. He let me know that is legal and will not interfere with the EAD/work issue in the USA. They also understand you can't just NOT work during this process.

I checked with other people in the same position, talked to Infopass and everyone said this is NOT a problem and you are okay to do it.

I am confident saying: Yes this is legal, and go for it.

CanadaAnyone here watch "The Proposal" movie?....
I can't watch movies that are inaccurate and didn't have their writers bother to research the issue and spend an extra 20% on them, but instead give bullock millions to play the role. It would ruin the entire movie for me. So knowing full well it will be rubbish I just won't go, to save myself sitting there yelling in the theatre "It doesn't work like that."

.... because I will. blink.gif

Can anyone explain to me what that means? If I don't have a file, how do I go about getting one? If my husband adds me to his credit card, I know that won't do anything to my score, but will it at least give me a file?

That's so wierd that they denied you - I don't know what that means, sorry! It's wierd because I put down 0 income and I was a "homemaker" as my occupation and I still got approved blink.gif

Everyone picks and chooses what to latch on to emotionally. Personally I find it more tragic that we've murdered 100,000 civilians in several countries over the 2700+ that were killed 8 years ago today in the US. That's just me though, clearly I am the bad guy.
