K-3 Spousal Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsApproval
QUOTE (bradleyboy @ Apr 15 2009, 01:05 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Longtime lurker here, this forum has been very helpful in tracking our progress and giving us tips on what to do.

This morning, we finally received our NOA2 notifications (via email) for both the I-130 and I-129F. Our NOA1 for the I-130 was 9/16/08 and the NOA1 for the I-129F was 10/3/08.

I think the lesson from our case was to not hesitate to get people involved. We've emailed both senators in our state and when the I-129F went outside of processing times at the beginning of this month, I called USCIS and adamantly pressed for a service request. After some tense back and forth, we were finally granted one and I have no doubt that the service request is what got our approval.

On to NVC!

Congrats!!! kicking.gif

They are actually looking for me to fix some American treats. But I am limited by what is available to cook with. There is no generator and it is an area of Lagos with terrible electrical service.

Dear NigeriaorBust,
Just want to inform you that most Nigerians like things that are stew based, most times it has to contain meat, chicken etc if they are not vegetarian. So Spaghetti and meat balls will be your best bet. That’s what I made for my in-laws when i visited them. And they loved it. Remember to add some hot chili powder pepper. star_smile.gif

I thought of that but doesn't that take butter or milk.

There is butter in nigeria. BLue band butter, its not like american butter, but it's butter. You can use evaporated milk to substitue fresh milk. How about pasta? with the sauce? You can buy pasta and pasta sauce here, and buy some local meat in nigeria.

The infrastructure of Lagos state is getting worse. The Okota area of Lagos has gone weeks with no power at all and when it comes there is a mad rush to iron and charge phones. When I was in the village it was also primitive.

Dear NigeriaorBust, I understand, we need prayer in that country. But the lagos Governor Fashola is doing alot to make the lives of lagosians easier for example, i was there this Aug, and i saw lots of road contruction going on. My husband's family lives in Ikotun and we didnt see light for the whole 2wks i satyed. We were operating the generator 24/7.

World travel for Nigerians is limited to those that are scammers and those that are eating the money from the oil fields. You attacked me as if ovens and electricity are standard in Nigeria. Even in Lagos most people struggle to survive. In the average home you don't find such luxuries and electricity gets rarer and rarer.

"World travel for Nigerians is limited to those that are scammers"? My father is not into the oil business neither is my mom. My father is an business man (he sells packaged goods, e.g powdered iyan etc) and my mother is a teacher. My mother in-law is a teacher, and my father in=law is Manager in Brisco. We have an oven in our home, we are world travelers, and we didnt get our traveling papers through scamming. Yes its true that people eat money in Nigeria, but not all of it is from stealing. Please do not make the assumption that all Nigerians are scammer its an ignorant way of thinking. Electricity is getting rarer, and rarer in nigeria because of the management skills of our government. But that doesnt stop you from having a gas cooker. I think you should educate yourself about Nigeria before making assumptions.

I am looking for ideas of things that I can make there. No oven , no electricity. Primitive cooking with camp like burners. What can I fix there that they might like ? I was thinking pancakes. Is there anything you have had luck with ? Can you get butter or milk there ?

My dear, have ever visited Nigeria? There's no such thing as primitive cooking in Nigeria. We have stove, gas cooker, and electric cooker. Depending on your economical level. FYI: You can make anything there as long as you have the money. If u will be staying lagos/ Abuja, you can go to SHOP RITE there u can get american food like pasta, minced beef. chicken etc.

I'm so filled with Joy! My fiance passed his interview today! Thank You Lord! I didn't get to speak with him very long. But he said they really drilled him on a lot of questions, Said the interview took about 20 minutes total from the time he sat down to when he got up. He picks up his visa next week and said some people were being denied because they didn't know some of the answers to the questions about their fiance family. Eventhough the consulate doesn't know if the answers are correct such as your siblings names, they are looking to see how confident you are when answering. They also stare at their computers as if they actually have their names in fron tof them that's reverse psychology. kicking.gif

I know Lagos can be especially difficult at the lengths they go to in trying to deny the visas. I actually think some of the ones there think their character is to do just that. Lets post some of those difficult questions so we can help others.

Up front we are a middle aged couple , I am older and white.

These may not be in the order asked but

How did we meet

How many times had I visited

How many times have I been married

Why was I divorced

How many children , their names , birth order , how many live with me and what do they do ( my kids are adults)

How many grand kids

How many siblings , and what are their names and locations.

What degrees do I have , what where the school and when did I get them.

Where do I live , what style of house and how many rooms

Do I rent or own

Where do I work and what do I do there

What are my parents names and what do they do ( he replied that they were both dead when we met and that dead people do nothing )

How did we communicate and what was the average length of our calls.

Why we didn't marry in Nigeria.

where are we planning to marry in the US

What year did I move out of NY state

In the interview it came up that his father had died since my initial visit and she asked him if his father died when he found out he was planning on marrying a white woman.

I think that is most of the questions .

Any others that someone can add. Maybe not ones you were asked but overheard while inside the interview area ?

Here are some of the questions they asked my husband.
1. How much does it cost per min to call your wife?
2. What does your wife do for a living? They want the title. Then the officer asked him to explain my daily duties @ work.
3. What does your wife do after work?
4. how far away is your wife's place of work, from her house?
5. Many siblings does your wife have?
6. Which 1 of the siblings are you closer to? and why?
7. The university your wife graduated from, and its location.
8. Our proof of communication.
9. Our proof of relationship (pictures)
My husband is 5yrs older than me, and we are both in our twenties. The officer never asked about our age difference.

Congratulations Dapu!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Nwanyioma.

I sent an email to the lagos consulate last week asking if they have received my packet since when i tracked it on DHL website, I saw it was sent out by NVC on August 26th and received in lagos on August 31st but they emailed me back after giving sending me countless FAQ responses that they do not have my record on their files yet, i called DOS this morning, spoke to a very nice lady who called NVC to find out when my packet was sent to Lagos only to tell me it was sent electronically on August 26th and mailed out same day so my question will not be does the DHL mail take 2 weeks to get to Lagos or do they just have alot of paperwork to process which might be the reason my case number is not on their records yet? I hope we all get our interview dates soon and favor and success all the way.

Yes, it usually takes a month before they say that they have recieved your physical case. Personally I think it's a bunch a bull especially when we have proof that it was delivered by DHL on a certain date and then they continue to tell you that they don't have it. I got really frustrated one time and emailed them and said "I know my package was delivered, it was sigend off by_______" .....lol.... of course they didn't comment on that but sent the regular they haven't recieved it yet email.

wow this is really sad. Are you saying US embassy in Nigeria are the ones that will schedule the interview date? I called NVC yesterday, and they said i should call back on the 22 of sept.

Hi! star_smile.gif New here, but in the process of filing K3 for my husband in India.

Quick question:

We had a very small religious ceremony for marriage certificate purposes earlier this year. We have filed with this certificate. We have very few pictures and nothing with my siblings, his sibling (since they weren't there), or even the traditional picture by the fire.

Later this summer we are going to have the usual grand wedding/reception in India. We will of course have tons of pictures.

My question is what pictures to show in the interview? Do we show the "second" wedding pictures without mentioning the date? Or do we just state the truth, that we waited so everyone could attend and it was planned properly, etc?

Thanks! innocent.gif

You should tell them the truth. The way you just related it to us.

So i need to know what happens next???? We have seen so many different versions and horror stories that we simply don't know which way now to turn. At the minute i'm planning to go see my wife with a tourist visa and stay as close to the 90 days as possible....i reckon it will take the sting outta the process......

But we are stuck on this whole K-3/CR1 thing...i mean after I-130 is approved what hapend then????

Any info would be good............and also there is no point filling in my time line at the minute because we just got started

thanks

Allan & Kristy

Best thing to do is wait and pray for a quick approval. Try not to get anxious. It will also help if you fill out your timeline, for statistical purpose. I wish you best of luck and welcome!!!

Hi guys i was looking through the photocopy of my I-129f and i found out i wrote my husband's date of birth in the wrong format. I wrote 24/06/1981 instead of 06/24/1981. what should i do? Any advise will be appreciated. Thank you.

It is OK. Just do not confuse with British format of date with American format.
Incidentally, the British format for dates (expressed as numerals) is the same as the French one.

Thank you guys for your advice. I feel at ease.

For those of you who chimed in, I just wanted to give you a quick update. My wife received her passport/visa this afternoon!!

Exactly two weeks from the interview date. The visa was approved on the 8th and we received it today. I blame the holiday weekend for the delay.

I don't know if they even utilized the co-sponsor info they "requested", at this point I don't care as long as she has her passport. She's set to be with us Sunday kicking.gif kicking.gif

You know how they say everything happens for a reason? Well it must be true for had this not have happened, I wouldn't have meet all of you fantastic people. blush.gif

Thank you to everyone...may your journey be an interesting one innocent.gif

I'll be sure to visit the site frequently...I'm so excited!

congrats!!! kicking.gif

Hello I just wanted to share that yesterday my hubby recieved approval notices for BOTH the i-130 and the i-129f!!!!!!!!!!! It has been a long wait.........................................................!!!!!!!!!!!!!
my husband called them nearly 2 weeks ago asking why it hasnt been looked into yet which the guy at CSC then said we are going through security checks. My hubby asked for a service request, he never recieved anything until the approval notices yesterday!!!!!!!! I was very worried thinking we would be stuck in security checks for a long time!

Just for everyones else information we never had a touch on the online system - i just checked now and it still says september 4 2008. it also says pending when i put my application number in. We have not recieved any emails saying the approval notice was sent......so it was a very nice surprise!!!!
For all the people who have been waiting longer than me....i am sorry and i do hope you are also approved soon. It is horrible not knowing when it is going to come and you feel so helpless.
Well now on to deciding which way to go....i know everyone says no point in doing k3, but when i look at the i-130 shortcuts it seems so confusing! so many different things to do and im worried my husband is too busy working every day to get each bit done!!! The thing is as me and hubby married in another country not the UK my interview will be in that country and for the i-130 it will be in London. Its not too much of a problem to travel to the other country as i have family there and can stay with them, it seems k3 is simpler.but i realise it is more expensive and have to wait for green card.so we may just go ahead and do i-130
I am going to do some research now but any advice would be great. Would you say it approx takes 4 months from now?? or any ideas??

Good luck everyone!!

congrats!!! kicking.gif

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAmazing Approval in Lagos Nigeria- Olu Wa!!!
QUOTE (RANNK1 @ Nov 17 2009, 01:21 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
My Nigerian fiance was approved in Lagos Nigeria!!! We are so thrilled.
Ok--- so this is what happened:
He arrived Friday morning at 6am. He waited around and got into the Immigration line to go in.
While waiting..... he noticed that many people were being denied, or put on AP and so was starting to freak out. There was an Asian Consulate Officer there (no offence, but trying to describe what she looked like), so was busy denying everybody all morning.
He was worried, but then decided that he would be confident and bold and he could handle anybody he got for the interviewer.
His number was called, and he had to go to the corresponding window.... which was hers!!!!!
He noticed that the woman was serious and did not smile once all morning. (Maybe she was having a bad day?)
He walked up to her window with much confidence. He was serious with her in return and put all his documents and photo albums up on the window. By the way, he was well dressed in a very nice , new tailored chocolate suit. He looked VERY HANDSOME that day.
The lady officer asked him these questions:
1. What is your name?
2. Who petitioned you?
--- he had to give an oath and have his fingerprints taken
----AT some point she asked to see the affivate of support and she took it. She didn't really ask anything about it- just looked at it briefly.
3. How did you meet your fiancee? Which website? (He told the story quickly and with specific details)
4. How long have you known your fiancee?
5. What does she do for work? What are her job duties at work? (He gave lots of specific information on this)
6. Why did she get divorced from her 1st husband? (He gave several reasons)
7 When did she get divorced? (He explained it was official May 21 2009, but in California law, it takes 6 months from filing for a divorce to become finaled. He also explained that he met me after I was separated from ex) (He also offered to show her the certified final divorce decree, but she said she didn't need to see it)
8. How many children does she have? (He stated my daughters, name and age, birthday, nickname she has for him, and some other things )
9. How does your fiancee's parents feel about the engagement? (He guessed that she would expect a very positive answer, so thats what he gave her. )
10. How do her siblings feel about the engagement? (He explained that he talks to my brother, Josiah, often on phone and described how my brother is in Coast Guard and would soon be gone out to sea, so he would miss seeing him until February. )
----------The woman seemed happy to hear all these answers---------
Nnamdi then pushed lots of pictures under the window for the Officer to see. The Officer Lady liked the photos and showed them to the other officers. (We took two photo albums full of beautiful pictures of us together with his family and friends, many taken outside in native wear. ) She was so happy about our photos.
She then went in the other room to get him the approval paper and gave it to him , telling his his K-1 visa was approved and he could pick it up the following Friday!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nnamdi left and cheered outside the embassy. He is so happy . He is flying home December 1st. kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif kicking.gif

---- She never asked to see supporting evidence like phone logs, emails, IM etc... also Nnamdi took 13 pounds of evidence with him to the interview to be on the safe side. Much of it was notorized. I highly recommend that everyone take lots of evidence no matter what.
I think it is better to overwhelm the officer with evidence they can look at if they please rather than to not take enough. So what if if costs an extra few hundred dollars to mail it to your fiance DHL. Its worth it.
Practice the questions, make sure your fiance know what questions to expect and be ready to anwer them. I helped him prepare for about 45 potential questions.
Most of all, be confident and quick with your answers.

Good luck to all of you still waiting. God Speed your fiance /ee to come home

Rebecca and Nnamdi

Congrats!

My wife called me today to say that she received the approval letter from USCIS.

We filed our I-130 in Feb 2008.

After being transferred to Cali, FBI checks and add mailing additional evidence we finally got it our petition approved. It was a long wait for us. Just hope that the rest of the journey will be much faster .

Good luck to everyone who is still waiting. Just be patient and don't let this process affect you life.

Congrats!!!

I just wanted to write a quick 'Thank You' to everyone on here for their wonderful and kind assistance.

After 2 years of struggling to be together, on Monday our case was finally approved in Amsterdam. It was a bit of an anti-climatic end considering all the ups and downs of the USCIS & NVC. The final moment was very quick, pleasant and pain-free smile.gif

My husband will finally join my daughters and I on 18 April and our real journey as a family will begin.

Despite the best immigration lawyers his employer could retain, their experience and knowledge and guidance were a disgrace compared to the wonderful and fantastic advice we received from people here on this site. Having started the journey with lawyers, and finished it without them, I can honestly tell you that the advice & guides from this site are 1000% more helpful than any lawyer, even for the 'not so usual' cases...

So to everyone still on their journey - please keep your faith and use the wonderful help and advice that is available here - it will make the process (slightly) more bearable and the reward of having done it together even more sweet.

good.gif star_smile.gif

Thank you again for everyone's kind assistance, and all the best of luck.

Congratulations. and good luck on your new journey.
