US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionWhy cant we just pick up the visa?
Hey guys, thank you for the greetings! It's very sweet of you. It was a great day for me and I'm very happny now:)

About your question, I'll tell you this. At my medical, I met a girl who had an interview in Kiev two weeks before mine (she's from South, too, as I am, and as your girl:) Her fiance flew from US to accompany her as well. She said that next day after the interview the Embassy called her up and said that they couldn't find some documents she had submitted, so she needed to go back and to bring some copies of them. Her fiance goes with her, they talk to the Consulate Officer, and it's agreed that her passport with visa would be ready by next ready. So, they go and pick it up next day. Apparently, it can be arranged.

After my experience today, I gotta tell you that it's possible to talk to them and ask. Do it right away though, at your interview, explain your situation. I'm sure they get requests like that from time to time. If you need the answer beforehand, you'd probably call the Call Center and ask this question about delivery. Bad news that they charge for any single minute you talk to them, but what can we do?

About up to ten business days to process and deliver the passport with visa, it sucks of course! I'm wondering though, would your fiancee be coming to Kiev with all her stuff she'd be flying to the states? It sounds that after the interview she's not planning to return home but fly to America? It's a tricky one because you'd think of buying a ticket and you wouldn't know about the date until after the interview. Also, the medical. She'll need to have it done prior to the interview - most of applicants come to Kiev one or two day before the interview to do that - with the previous appointment of course.

Good luck to you! The journey is long and excited! I hope that yours goes as fast as our did:)!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionKiev interview questions
Hello Gary,
I had my K1 interview in Kiev on Feb4. I think that what you have to supply your I-134 with is more than enough. In my case, I had the Affidavit, my fiance's 2006 tax return, bank statements, and some other savings docs (he's self-employed, so we didn't have any letters on salary from HR, etc.) No property, no mortages, no anything else. For me it worked perfectly fine. You've checked the poverty guidlines, right? So, if you know everythig, it seems to me you're ready to go. Just in case - don't sign and notarize the Affidavit right now, it should be dated closer to the interview. The same with your employer letter. (Actually, three days after the interview they returned me all financial support docs along with the evidence on ongoing relationships - I had to go back to pick up my passport with visa - they lost one of my 5x5 pics and I had to replace it; in return, they gave me my passport back. So, I got all the stuff I had with me for the inteview back. They only kept the Affidavit itself.)
Good luck to you guys! And let me know if I can be of more help!
Masha

I put MYSELF - even though my fiance sent me $$ to buy a ticket. 'MYSELF' worked out just fine:) Good luck!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionKiev Interview - Medical Examination Processing Times
That's true that you pick up your medical results the same day at 3pm. I had my medical way in advance (even before I had my KEV number from NVC); I came in at 10.30am and left the medical center at 3.30pm. All that time I was doing tests and seeing doctors; in about twenty minutes after I'd talked to the last doctor (around 3pm) - I was given my tests results. There were few girls whose interviews were the next day. I don't think they send any info to the Embassy; they gave me the sealed envelope with my tests results which I had to bring to the interview. That's it! If your fiancee doesn't live in Kiev, she can easily have her medical a day before the interview. My only advice would be for her to come as early as she can. She also should call for an appointment beforehand.
Good luck smile.gif !

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionQuestions about packet 3: DS-156, I-134, ...
Hey, are you sure you need all these forms to be filled? If you're applying for K1, for your interview, you'd only need DS-156 and DS-156K. May be it's different in France but I've never ran into discussions on the forms you've mentioned. I may be wrong, of course, but you double check as well:) It seems that if you really need them, it`s a lot of information you have to submit:) Oh, by the way, if you're filing for K1 you don't need DS-230. I was told I didn't need it, and I didn't bring it with me for the interview where nobody asked me for it. (Again, may be it's different in France??)

About the Affidavit, my fiance took care of it the next day we got our NO2. Then, it took FedEx four days to deliver. The only thing though, since you'll need a copy of the last year tax return to supply the affidavit - and in your case it'd rather be for year of 2007 - you better prepare your I-134 after your fiance files it.

GOOD LUCK!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMedical exam - what about HPV?
I agree with ZeeNusah. Don' mention it. At my medical, I've been asked so many stupid questions - if I've ever had concussions, if I've been taking antidepressants, if I've been seeing a pshychiatrist... They've also checked my body for scars, etc. I found many of it offensive. But no HPV-related questions:)

(About that vaccine, I've never heard that you have to have it before you become sexually active. It sounds rather odd:) but could be. I wish I was under 26 to have a shot - I'm 33 now:) You're right that it doesn't protect of all the HPV types but at least of some; it wouldn't be bad either:)
mariapoeFemaleUkraine2008-02-15 12:29:00
US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMedical exam - what about HPV?
I don?t think you should worry about. First of all, HPV is not in the list, that?s correct. What they basically test you for is HIV, syphilis, and TB; HPV is not of their concern. Besides, at your medical, you only have a blood test and x-ray; as far as I know, to diagnose the HPV, they'd have to make a pap test, too, and they don?t do it.

(By the way, do you know that they now have a vaccine from HPV ? it?s only effective for women who are under 26 though.)

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionNAO2 Necessary at the interview?
She won't need NO2 for the interview in Kiev. I had a photocopy with me, nobody even asked for it. Besides, I wasn't aware of it, but, in the Embassy, they'll have the whole file from the USCIS - all the paperwork you've filed with you original petition. Before I thouht that they'd just let the Embassy know, say, my case#, it's details, and that it's been approved, but not at all: when I was interviewed in Kiev, I saw the big, thick file with original I129F on a top with an 'APPROVED' stamp on it. That was all the documents and evidence my fiance had filed in a first place.

Thank you Masha!
This is great information. I have been to Kiev before but had poor experiences with apartments. In my opinion, they can be dangerous for foreigners who are alone and can't speak the local language.

I agree completely about staying away from dark areas and alleys. I try to blend in and speak as little as possible when I visit.

I will be sure to read your review.

Noll

You're welcome! And don't worry about those people on the phone. I was told a long time ago that those call center representatives are not the Embassy workers; it's just some company that provides services to the Embassy. Unlike the people who answer the emails who, in opposite, are the Embassy employees. I remember calling to find out if I needed a criminal record from the US since I had previuosly lived here for six years and every time I was told that yes, I needed it (I'm sure they were just looking up the answer in the manual, that's it!) Later, being totally confused, I asked the same question via email and the answer was NO, I didn't need it which I was almost sure about. To me, they all sound like college kids on that phone actually.
Good luck and have a nice trip smile.gif !

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionK1 Interview in Ukraine
QUOTE (noll @ Apr 28 2008, 09:52 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hello All,
Our K1 interview is this coming May 21st, 2008 in Ukraine.

1. Are the interviewers expecting us to be dressed up as in men wearing a suit and tie? Is it the norm for men to wear a suit and tie to the interview as they accompany their fiancée? Is that what others are doing?

2. Can anyone recommend a safe hotel or lodging within approximately 1 mile of the Embassy where the interviews are held? What would you recommend? (No apartments please). My fiancée does not live in Kiev otherwise I could stay at her place.

3. So, obviously couples may typically have a few days before and/or after their interview which leads me to the question, what do others do to keep safe all their critical documents with so much personal information on them? Do you leave them hidden in your hotel room or apartment?

Thank you in advance.

Tim

Hi Tim,

I don't think men are expected to wear a suit and tie. You can but it's not necessary. Just wear something nice. In winter, I'd recommend you to have some warm clothes on but Kiev is beautiful in May, you'll enjoy it.

About hotels. I don't think there is any hotel that close to the Consulate. Try Dnipro, Kershchatik, Ukraine, or Kozatski - they are the closest (15min away) and affordable, too. All or them are located around Independence Square which is downtown Kiev.
http://www.hotels-kiev.com/

I'm sure that if you stay in these hotels, you can just leave your documents in a room. Carry your passport and wallet with you and stay away from dark and unknown portions of the city, nothing else!

And, good luck for the interview smile.gif ! (For tips, you can ready my Consulate review after I went for my interview in early February; it's long and boring laughing.gif but informative.)

I did it here -- check Section 4, #2 - it took about 7 business days and was about $10 (I think they could make it even faster for more $$.) It's in Kiev though.
http://dit.centrmia.gov.ua/pos.htm

Right below the Section 4.2. there is a note saying 'ADDRESSES OF INFORMATION SERVICES IN REGIONS' - click there and the list of regional offices will pump up. (I hope that you got other police certificates from other countries if you lived anywhere but Ukraine for longer than six months.)

About the translations, I can give you the contact info of a notarized translator in Kiev but it's not hard to find a place anyway in both regions, and the capital.

Good luck smile.gif !

On a top of what I said, it wouldn't hurt to call the office in Kiev (044)280-13-32 and ask if they do via mail. They are independent and provide fast services for little $$ smile.gif

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionpaperwork/interview questions, Kyiv Ukraine
Gary,

1. I think if you had a sufficient income last year, that's fine! They ask info on the most recent year and, if you have more evidence from this year, it's great, it may be helpful but don't bother about reporting any other savings, investments, etc. In our I-134 my husband put his income (he's alwo self-employed) and we added some retirements savings he had, that's it! Get those paystubs and get your bank statements if you think it'll help, and you'll be all set.

2. Have nothing to say about your fiancee's son's situation because don't know how it really goes when children are involved, so I don't want to confuse you. I only know that 18-year old son will need to get his own police certificate and probably a medical exam as well if he goes with you for an interview. Call the call center, or email the Embassy if you have no answers before you fly to Ukraine.

3. Police certificates and the medical are valid for one year. If Alla travels to Kiev a lot, she may as well schedule the medical beforehand but it will take her literally the whole day - I arrived at 10am and left the building at 3:40pm. Even though that facililty is a specially chosen and, apparently, sponsored by the US Embassy, it's a real mess, in the best Ukrainian traditions:)!

Good luck smile.gif !

Hi,

Thanks

If you're sure that the case has been delivered to the Embassy (and you don't have your NVC case number), call them and insist on checking by her last name. That what I did. They couldn't find by NVC# but found it after I gave them my last name.

Good luck!

Regardless of how when the NVC gets your approved petition etc., I'd recommend you to start calling the Embassy in Ukraine three -four weeks after your petition was approved. Mine was in Kiev on Jan 23, NOA2 dated Jan7. The Embassy charges you for phone calls now, so I felt absolutely free to bother them if I paid for it.

As I once read here, if your case gets touched and you don't get an email, it means that they're just working on it (may be, sometimes, simply moving your folder from one desk to another) but the status of your case remains the same.

When I was waiting for my I-129F approval, I had no idea about touches so I wasn't checking. Unlike now, when I'm - as many others - do obsessively check our cases for touches three-four times a day smile.gif tongue.gif . By the way, our I-129F case had never been touched before it was approved, no single touch!

Good luck with your journey For K-1 filers, things are movin so much faster now smile.gif !!!

How do you get the NVC Case Number? Is it the same as the USCIS Receipt Number?

You call the NVC a couple of days after your NOA2. You can reach them at (603) 334-0700 press 1,5 OR (202) 663-1225 press 1,0. You must talk to a live person because K1s are not entered into the automated system. Those button presses above will get you to the live person. When you talk with them, you will ask you for your case number and you give them the USCIS # and then they will look you up and give you your new NVC case #. This is the number you will have for the rest of the process.

Thanks for these extenstions you shared. My fiance said that he tried calling NVC too many times but they don't put your on hold over there but asking to call back which is not that convinient, I guess. I don't know, may be he didn't try hard enough:) He got a letter from NVC in mail though. It's dated Jan14 and says that the've recently received the approved NO2 and the paperwork will be forwarded to the Embassy within a week (I really that they've sent it out already; the letter has my new case number on it, too.) I even didn't know thay issue real hard-copy letters like that.

i also heard that kiev embassy likes it organized. i have an interview in few days (mon, feb4) and i just put everything in a big folder, got it separated by subjects - application forms, affidavit with the copies, then evidence of ongoing relationships, pics, etc.

about the letter of support, my fiance sent me two - one from his parents, and one from his brother and the wife. i did the same - i have one from my parents and one from my sister and my brother in law. that's it! i don't think that it's that important though.

At the medical, I was told to NOT bring the X-ray and I didn't. Nobody asked me for it. If you have doubts, call the medical center and clarify. I saw people carring the x-ray envelopes for their interviews and heard them saying that they didn't know why they'd brought it --- Oh, at the medical they said I have to take it with me to US though:)

Good luck for your interview smile.gif ! It's on Friday, right???

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresDS-156
I was under imression that everybody fills out DS156. It is if you go for the interview in the Embassy though. If you're in the States, it's probably different. Just make sure.
Good luck!

I also thought that you can upload everything from the website. That what I've done even though our paperwork is still somewhere between VSC and NVC. Did you check the US Embassy in Romania website?? US Embassy in Ukraine even encourages applicants to download all the forms from their website due to numerous mail deliveries.
I hope you'll solve this issue soon:)
