K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMaiden name and married name.... what should I do??

same doubt for me...thanks flavia for raising it..

so on the form, my wife's family name is the new family (i.e mine) and the maiden name is her previous(before marriage) family name..right..?

and also got her name on our marriage cert like name before marriage and also name after marriage !!!

Hello again!!
Thanks all for your replies - I really appreciate it! Now we have it all figured out!

citizen, yep, we will put my new married last name as the family name, and maiden as maiden and then before the interview I will have the passport exchanged. The USCIS advised us though to put a separate note saying that the passport with maiden name will be exchanged just to make sure they aren't too picky about that.
But be careful - you must have a proof that her last name was really changed! Like, even though my foreign passport is still maiden we have a marriage certificate that says that my last name has been changed. The thing is that in Russia it's more important what is in your passport than in any other document... Obviously, the US authorities are relatively more flexible when it comes to paperwork. Sometimes...

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMaiden name and married name.... what should I do??
Hi everyone! :)
I'm a newbie here and I'm desperate for advice
My American husband and I are in a rush to get through with all the paperwork and finally file for a CR1 visa for me. But we are stuck..

My foreign passport, which we also have to submit a copy of, is still in my maiden name. But in Russia it takes forever, well, maybe 2 months to have it exchanged. Means we the whole process will be delayed by 2 months - so long!
So question is, can we file all the applications in my new last name and submit a copy of an old passport NOW, and while waiting for the approval and interview I will have my passport exchanged for a new one with my new (pretty and easy to pronounce :) last name?

PLEASE please give me some advice! We have to file the docs next week and still hesitating!!
thank you in advance!

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresFiled an I129F for fiancee visa and then got married!
My close friend is asking for advice. She and her American then fiancee filed an I-129F petition for alien fiancee. In a couple of weeks after that he went to Russia and they got married. What's the course of action now?

I understand they need to file I-130 now, but will it be faster now that they have already filed for a fiancee visa? What about K-3 - should they file it or not?

US Citizenship General DiscussionHow do they know how much time I spent outside of US?
I just got my CR1 visa and now waiting for my GC to be mailed to me.

Looks like I will have to do a bit of travelling in the next couple of years, and from what I heard there is no record of when you leave the US, they only record when you come back.

SO I was wondering, how do they know how much time you spent outside of the country when you apply for citizenship? How can they verif that you are eligible?

PS. Not that I am going to violate the laws, I'm only curious.

US Citizenship General DiscussionIn school in another state- where should I send my n400?

You need to file where you consider your primary residence. How far is your college from your primary residence?

V333k,
it's on the other coast unfortunately..

US Citizenship General DiscussionIn school in another state- where should I send my n400?
Good evening to everyone,

We are going to submit n400 in a few weeks, and now that I'm in school in another state, I'm wondering whether I should send my application to the lockbox for my primary state of residence or the one that I'm in for college.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

US Citizenship General DiscussionCan't remember exactly where I worked and lived..
I'm working on filling out my N400 right now, and don't remember the exact dates where I lived or worked for the previous five years. Is it ok if I put approximate dates? What if the employment dates don't match exactly the ones I indicated when applying for removal of conditional residence last year?

US Citizenship General DiscussionInterview checklist - Turbotax
Hello to everyone and congratulations to new US Citizens!

I'm getting ready for my interview, and have a question about the tax returns.

We are using Turbotax, and I'm wondering if a printout copy would be sufficient, or should we request IRS transcript?

Has anyone here had any problems bringing the Turbotax printouts?

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionRFE for divorce decree and travelling out of the US

Yes. But I would be concerned if they want more information, if she'll be there to get the mail and gather evidence.

Also, her biometrics appointment should be scheduled soon and she won't want to miss it. Once you have the appointment, she can always try a walk-in day and get it overwith early.

thank you for the reply!

Can she reschedule the biometrics appointment if she is not the US?

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionRFE for divorce decree and travelling out of the US
Hello to all,

My mom has filed I-751 and has just received a letter that it was accepted and her status extended by one year (otherwise her residency was to expire next month ).
But because her divorce hasn't been finalized yet, I guess she'll be getting an RFE for divorce decree.

Can she travel out of the country if she gets an RFE?

Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussionsending I-751 before divorce is finalized
Thanks everyone for replies!

She actually already submitted the I-751 and already got an extention of her LPR status by one year!

Just one more question - how long does it take them to send the RFE? If she receives an RFE (I assume there is a deadline for sending the missing documentation), can she still travel out of the country until she submits the missing divorce decree?

Thanks once again!

Removing Conditions on Residency General Discussionsending I-751 before divorce is finalized
Hello everyone,

My mom's conditional status expires very soon, but her divorce still is to be finalized. If she submits I-751 before the divorce decree is final, will her status be extended and for how long? WIll she be able to travel in and out of the country still?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresHusband moving to work abroad - please help!
I just got my CR1 visa :) , in summer we are going to the US to "open it".

But now my husband has to go to Dubai to work there for some time, maybe a couple if years, and I have to go with him, of course.

What do I do with my US visa and Green card? I heard there is a requirement to stay 6 months out of one year - what if I can't stay there for this long yet? Do I lose the visa? Or is there a way to get a permit to live abroad?
How soon can I get my citizenship?

:help: If someone could help me or post some links to web page with more info, I would be grateful!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresHow long to wait for GC after arriving to the US?
QUOTE (trinket @ Jun 19 2009, 04:29 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Took 5 weeks for me to receive my GC. You should be getting welcome letter soon, once you get that you can track your GC progress with the number alloted in the Welcome Letter.

Thanks!

It says online that the case is pending though.. Does it mean that the GC is still to be printed? How long does it take it to arrive once it has been approved?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresHow long to wait for GC after arriving to the US?
On average, how long does it take for the GC to arrive after arriving to the US on a CR1 visa? (Vermont service center)
Is it normal that the GC hasn't arrived in 28 days? (arrival on May 18 through New york)

My mom is waiting for her GC (conditional), a couple of days ago she got an e-mail saying "card production ordered", and just today another e-mail saying "approval notice sent". What does that mean?
