K-3 Spouse Visa Process & Proceduresdivorce papers
QUOTE (hollykay @ Sep 18 2008, 05:29 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Greetings all,
I'm back with another question. My husband and I were married in Egypt in June. We are working on the K-3 visa paperwork. My question is my husband was divorced in Egypt and his divorce papers are all in Arabic. Do I need to get them translated into English?

Holly Kay

My attorney advised us to have everything translated so you probably should. Good luck.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsDevasating News
I read your post this afternoon at work and I have been thinking about it ever since. I discussed it with my husband, who is also from Morocco. I'm finding his story very hard to believe. First because my husband told me the police will not be involved. What has to happen is she (the ex girlfriend) would have to petition the courts for a paternity test. That takes time. He would be requested to appear in court and then requested to take the test. After the test (which will also take time...not a day)...he would or would not be proven to be the father. If he is...he will be required to marry this woman. If he refused he will be sent to prison for 5 years. I also told my husband that he told you the police took his passport. Also untrue. The first thing my husband said ...after laughing of course...was that the police would not know he possessed a passport and that the passport has nothing to do with anything.
You may want to have further discussions with your fiance because his story does not add up. I'm not saying he did not father a child...I'm just saying if he did...he would have known for much longer than a day or two.
Something you should know about islam...unwed mothers is not a common thing there. And when it happens its like a HUGE disgrace to the family. I'm sorry that this is happening to you and I'm certainly not trying to make you feel worse but I'm not buying his story and I feel bad that he is doing this to you. Better now than when he got here though. I know this doesnt make you feel any better and if there is anything we can do to help...please feel free to send us a private message. As I said, my husband is from Morocco and if there are any unanswered questions you may have about culture and "the norm" there, we certainly would love to help you. Take care.

Can someone please tell me when Ramadan officially begins in the USA? My calendar at work says Tuesday at sundown but my husband works with Muslims and they are beginning tomorrow morning.

Hi everyone, this is my first post here and can I just say, what a fountain of information this site has proved to be! My girlfriend and I are planning to start the K-1 process soon, once we are officially engaged (!) and I believe it will offer better peace of mind if we use an attourney to act on our behalf with all the paperwork.

I found a website online, www.usavisanow.com and they look like they might be a good choice. I was just wondering if anyone else had experience with this company? Or perhaps if there is someone else you could all recommend? My girlfriend and I are 100% sure we want to get married, and that we want to go down the K-1 route. We just want to find the best help we can for what we can afford (which sadly isn't much!).

I am from England and my girlfriend lives in Alabama, US. She was considering using someone local, rather than an internet based company, so if anyone knows of a good immigration lawyer firm in AL then that would be helpful too!

Hi, my fiance and I used John Roth and Associates and they have an office in Mobile, Al. They have been very professional and responsive to any ?s we have had. It is not cheap but for me it was worth the money to avoid alot of the hassles that some couples may go through. Everyone is different and may choose to do the paperwork themselves. This is just to mention a law firm that I can speak from experience has done what they say.

I also have John Roth and Associates and we are using their Legal Assistant out of Mobile AL as well. However, I am finding that they are taking a great deal of time to prepare our paperwork. We hired them in February of 2008 and just when I thought the paperwork was ready to go, have now been asked to send more. It is now Aug. 08 and it still has not been sent. Did you experience the same situation?

you are out of the processing timeframe from USCIS, so your best bet will probably be calling USCIS yourself and make an inquiry on your petition.

we did call them million times and even made our lawyer call them.they said they are processing March 8th petitions.thats what our lawyer said.
i dont know what to do.. crying.gif

We are also using John Roth and Associates. My experience with them is that they work at their own pace. We finished sending our paperwork too them back at the end of April. I left for Morocco on May 7th thinking our paperwork would be sent by the time I returned. When I returned nothing had been done with our file and I called and was told they still needed more documents. My question to them was "why was I not told this before I left?" I then sent them what they were asking for and still nothing. Called AGAIN. Now they were trying to decide if I should file a K1 or go to Morocco and marry him (be in Morocco for 1-3 months) or continue with the K1. If I wanted to go there and marry him, that's what I would have done. I explained to them that I have a job and a son and I cant just pack my life up and leave for 1-3 months. To make this long story short our petition was never mailed until AUGUST!!! Now here we are sitting and waiting. I just recently received an email from Roth and Associates stating that our case was previously being handled in another state by a law assistant but now it was being transferred to NYC because Mr. Roth wants to handle our case personally. Dont know if that's a good thing or a bad thing.

I can not say it wasn't a good idea hiring them because we haven't really had any issues yet. However, had I known before how many individuals actually do this on their own and are successful, I certainly would have thought twice about hiring them.

Hi! I would suggest you not to use a lawyer... You just read the guides here in VJ, it really helps you a lot.. This site is very informative and the people here are so friendly.. Just ask some questions and they will answer right away.. tongue.gif

Welcome to VJ!!! You may have a speedy journey! biggrin.gif

I couldnt agree more. We hired an attorney out of NY and what a disaster. They made sooo many mistakes on our paperwork and we had to keep sending it back to them to fix. They were suppose to call us for a pre interview and when it came time ...they expected my fiance to call them. So we never did the pre interview and he still passed. Dont waste ur money....go see ur honey!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWho is a good agency to handle the visa (attorney?)
I agree with everyone. We used an attorney out of NY and what a waste of time and money. I left to visit Morocco in May of 2008 and I had just finished sending all my paperwork and asked if there was anything else they needed. It was AUGUST before they sent the paperwork!!! They said it was being reviewed and would I consider marrying him and filing the K3 instead. I advised them if that's what I wanted to do I would have done that. I was so angry. We decided for the AOS we would try it ourselves and the paperwork was very simple...with the help of this website of course. Save your money and file it yourself. Good luck :-)
