Middle East and North AfricaAdvise on how to handle the separation?
One of the things that we did to keep each other sane during the long separation was to make sure we had $$ set aside to call each other every single day. We didn't miss a day even if we could only afford calling cards for a few minutes. In hindsight, this really got me through. i also budgeted my money and every break i got from work, i went to Morocco. It was expensive, i ended up losing my hair, losing some friends, but we pulled through and here we are today... alhamdulilah.

Yes, it is true that Casa is a difficult consulate. You may get the runaround, (you might also pass right through with flying colors!) but either way, it is good that you are aware of the potential difficulties ahead... For right now, just organize all your photocopies, all your proofs, save anything and everything you have that could be evidence, and inchallah, you will pull through okay! star_smile.gif

If they kept his passport it is a good sign...
You can never really be sure, but keep your fingers crossed... for us, it was about 2 or 3 weeks after the interview (this was in Spring 2008).
Hope it goes fast for you!!

It is very easy to make yourself if you have a chopper and can find the red peppers!

But in a pinch, sometimes if you go to the section in the supermarket where you find all the jarred Italian peppers, you can find a version of chopped HOT Italian peppers... It's a pretty descent substitute... Don't know the name of it, but you will know it when you see it good.gif

Middle East and North AfricaVisa for muslim women with american man
Yes, you absolutely can do a K1... star_smile.gif
There may be some questions at the interview about your cultural and religious differences, but that is the same for anybody.
If you do get married in Morocco and do a K3, your fiance will have to convert to Islam beforehand for the Moroccan state to recognize the marriage (you probably already know this...)

But if you receive the K1 visa, you can come over here and marry your fiance without a religious ceremony or obligation.

The only problem that may arise is getting your US marriage recognized by the Kingdom of Morocco if your husband is not a Muslim. i wouldn't have any information on that, but perhaps someone here could be of help??

Good luck, good.gif

Middle East and North AfricaQuestion about the Consulate in Casa and I-864
QUOTE (JamilahAM @ Dec 21 2009, 12:53 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hello all,

I am planning on doing a DCF with the US Consulate in Casa next month and I will have a co-sponsor in the form of my one of my friends. My question is this:

1. Will she need to supply me with her 2008 or 2009 tax form and W-2?

Yes, i believe they like to see 2 or 3 years tax returns & w-2s. Or she can just get 2 or 3 years tax transcripts from the IRS (you can request them online) and then you may not have to worry about w-2s.

2. Will a letter from her employer be necessary?

Couldn't hurt.

3. Does she need to show enough income for just my husband or for me too? Weird because I cant seem to figure this out.

She has to make up the difference for whatever you can't cover. If the percentage rate for sponsorship is still $17,500 for a two-person household (it may have changed since we did ours in 2007), you write in what you can provide w/ work, income, savings, etc... and she has to cover the difference.

4. I have been in Morocco since August 2008 and I have no income for 2009 to report on my taxes. Do I still have to file or can I simply write a letter to the Consulate stating where in the US tax code I derived this information from.

Were you working in Morocco? You may still have to file, unfortunately... depending on your employment situation. Best to call the IRS and see what they recommend.

And off topic...
6. I speak a moderate amount of Arabic and my husband speaks a moderate amount of English. What language will our interview be conducted in?

If he speaks a moderate amount of English, he should be okay... good.gif

Good luck !!

Thanks

xoxo

Salaam Rajaa!

Yes, it is intimidating to read through this thread! i remember when i first read it a year ago! But no worries, be extra super prepared, bring all your documents, and practice the interview questions and you will be fine inchallah.

i did go to Casa for the interview and i actually did get called in for the interview (we are a K1 visa). But this is definitely not the norm, and i think most people are not present for the interview. If you have the $$ and you miss your habibik, then why not? But if it is not possible, then it is certainly not obligation that you be present for the interview.

Good luck!! rose.gif rose.gif

Good Luck Booboo!
All i can say is be prepared to address any of those red flags and don't be afraid to speak about them openly and honestly with the interviewer. it sounds like you have a lot of evidence and it's good that you are preparing beforehand. Bring all your evidence!! No matter how much it is, even if they don't look at it... it's good for them to see that you are prepared and ready.

i wish you the best.

Salaam all,
I'm sorry, I'm reviving an old post. I'm currently in Morocco with my fiance. I know I'm early and overanticipating the event, but I'm wondering if anyone who has recently gone through Casa can tell us what is in Packet 3? I looked at the Embassy Info. It says there is no Packet 4... does anyone know if this information is still up-to-date?

Thank you for your help!
hz

I believe that packet 3 has the DS156 and DS156K forms and instructions for the interview. There is no packet 4. When you get packet 3, it has your interview date in it and what to bring as far as the medical exam and money for the interview go. You bring everything from packet 3 with you to the interview- you do not send it in to the Consulate. Good luck!

Thanks a million, Sarah & Hicham!

Also, you don't happen to know if my fiance will have to do his fingerprints before the interview?
Or is this just for "immigrant visas"?

Thanks again,
hz

i've met quite a few people who's husbands didn't speak english at the time of their interview...... that isn't good enough reason. ugh

You are correct -- it's not a requirement to speak English at the interview.

What IS required is to prove that the petitioner and beneficiary share a common language in which to communicate. For some, it's Arabic, or French, or Italian.... or whatever -- you just have to demonstrate that you both are fluent in the same language.

But for many of the cases that we've seen here in ME/NA on VJ, the petitioner speaks only English with any fluency. That means the beneficiary has to show that he/she can also communicate sufficiently well in English. Having the interview in English is the best way to prove that.

-MK

Sorry, just a little question:
i speak mainly French with my fiance, and some busted-up Derija. He can speak French, but it's not the greatest... His English is okay at best. We are just beginning our paperwork for a K1, but we were hoping he can do his interview in Arabic, mainly so he can understand exactly what's being asked. How do we prove a common fluency in busted-up French and Derija?

Middle East and North AfricaLosing friends because of marriage choice
Yes, that is interesting... i never knew that about working for DHS or any other agency requiring security clearance... seems counterintuitive in a way... wouldn't they want people w/ diverse backgrounds & experiences working for them? Like if you were Lebanese American, spoke fluent Arabic, and had family back in the motherland... seems you'd be an asset ? Shoot, even i thought about applying for a job with them before... will have to scratch it off the list...

But yes, in any event, it sucks to lose someone you once considered a friend...

Hey guys, its been awhile since I posted on VJ...things are going okie, still going through the normal stuggles of being married to someone overseas. Anyway, I wanted to ask has anyone lost friends because of their marriage choice? Particularly, Marrying someone from the middle east....A really good friend of mine recently received a postion with Homeland Security and they informed me that they most cut all ties with me because of my husbands nationality. It disappoints me because she was a long time friend and having to cut ties with someone because of this doesn't seem right or fair. Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Wow... that sounds extreme ?

Yes, i definitely learned who my real friends were through this experience. It was heartbreaking at the time. i've also had issues with family members, and again it is really disappointing. i try to forgive and forget and just move on, but sometimes people say/do things that really change the way you see them. It's hard to get over that.

Hang in there ! And best of luck to you ! good.gif

Just keep in mind that when you delete cookies you lose everything that the computer is remembering for you like passwords, websites you've gone to, searches, and the like. So you'll have to enter all that stuff in yourself again and the computer will create new cookies, until you delete them again, etc. It's not a guarantee you'll get a lower price but it does make it so you don't get a higher price if the website monitors your cookies.

Middle East and North AfricaMarrying in Morocco
Getting married for us in Morocco was a complete disaster, but my mister is from a small village and i had residency at the time, which only seemed to complicate things. It seems to me, if you go and get married while you are still "a tourist" in Morocco, it is easier. My residency screwed the whole thing up and it was weeks of interviews with the police... This, however, was only my experience. Others have had it way easier... and it only took a week or two to get all the documents together, do the runaround, and finally sign on the line...

Also, i didn't see on the list above: Bring with you a notarized letter from your local police department saying you have no criminal record... i needed one of those as well...

Good luck!
