US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDS 156 necessary for K-1 visa
Yeah, you're right. (My fiancé wrote this, he later found out that you need the DS-156 but didn't correct himself on here!)

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDS 156 necessary for K-1 visa
Form DS-156 has been replaced by form DS-160, at least for the London embassy! They haven't updated all of the pages yet.

Here's the relevant info: http://london.usembassy.gov/ds160.html

Embassy in London are required to complete the online nonimmigrant electronic visa application form DS-160; we no longer accept the forms DS-156, DS-157 and DS-158.

Fill in DS-160 here: https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/

You do not need to submit DS-156, DS-157 or DS-158 with your application.

Hope this helps! Double check with your embassy, but it's likely the same situation.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionWhat qualifies as "evidence of engagement to fiancée" and "evidence of financial support" for form DS-156-K?
Just received a letter from the London consulate that directed me to this step-by-step:

http://london.usembassy.gov/iv_15.html

For form DS-156-K, we need:

  • Evidence of engagement to your fiancée
  • Evidence of financial support

The form is here:

http://www.state.gov...ation/82063.pdf

What qualifies? Is "evidence of financial support" looking for an affidavit of support? We haven't bought a ring yet, but we are engaged, so what else could we use as evidence of engagement?

Thanks!

Richard

Things move faster for different couples I suppose. We submitted our application on 6/23 and got a letter from the consulate saying they received the app today! Fingers crossed that you will hear something soon :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNOA2 Question

If you don't follow the next steps with the embassy or consulate. The approval will expire and you would have to file a new petition. If you do follow the next steps, the embassy will continue to extend the validity of your approval until an interview can be conducted.

Ahhh! Okay :) Thanks so much!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNOA2 Question
We noticed that on the NOA2 there is a box that says:

Notice Type: Approval Notice
Valid from 07/23/2010 to 11/23/2010

What does that mean? Why is it only valid from a certain date to another certain date?

Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-129f Packaging question!
We ended up just using the binder.. From the date we sent the application (6/23) to the date that we got the letter from the consulate (8/5) it's been less than two months!
Good luck to everyone else and thanks for the advice.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-129f Packaging question!
So..

We're currently in the process of putting together all the information, documents, and forms for the K1 fiancé visa and we had a question.

Is it okay to put everything in a binder and have it organized that way?
We have all of the paperwork in there, with separators and such.. However I haven't heard of anyone else using this method.

What do you think?

Thanks :)
