Probably a stupid and obvious question, but I sent in my application for removal of conditions in May 08 (I am in Orlando, FL and sent to Texas) and the most recent status on USCIS website says This case is now pending at the office to which it was transferred (and that was last updated in Sept.)

United KingdomFirst UK passport for baby born in USA... advice?
My son was born here in the US back in March. At some point we want to get him a British passport. Applying in the USA would cost us a lot more than if we did it via a relative's address in the UK...

Has anyone else done this or does anyone have advice as to why we should pay more to do it here in the US?

Hi there

Thought I'd ask this question here in case anyone knows. I have been in the US since Sept 2005, and may one day go back to the UK but have no plans at present. I still have a British bank account and have a direct debit for National Insurance contributions, which I still pay (I was self-employed in the UK and just never cancelled it).

Should I stop making the payments or will I have trouble getting NHS treatment if I go back otherwise?

I came to the US in 2005 on a fiance visa, married my American wife and we applied for my green card which came through in August 2006. In the next few months I will be able to apply for citizenship... (if I've read everything correctly)

...but I have a question and if anyone has any thoughts please let me know... what would happen if we had to move back to the UK (where I am from) and stayed long-term- how would we be able to return to the US? Would we have to start the process all over again for me? Would I be able to work or would I have to file for a work permit? (We don't want to move back but the work situation here is worse for me than it would be in the UK- but we don't want to waste the time we've put into getting me citizenship so we can come and go as we please).

If anyone could point me to any information about this admittedly quite vague question, I would appreciate it!

We are in the same situation- we have applied for the US passport and the UK passport. Though the UK one is not essential, it's the best thing in terms of proof of UK citizenship. I was told this by our local British consulate- they said don't bother registering the birth in the UK, just apply for a British passport, which serves as proof of the baby's British citizenship (if you want that).

As I said, you don't need to get it. And neither the US or UK authorities care whether you are getting dual citizenship so don't worry too much about that. Just make sure the baby comes and goes from the US on the US passport.

FYI: If you do get the British one- send your application via UPS or Fed Ex- the post office just lost mine!

This is a bit of a vague question... but once (or maybe, if) I get approved for citizenship, apply for my passport and get it... can I just come and go from the USA for as long as I want?

I'm thinking if I move back to the UK- or anywhere else- are there any restrictions on how long I can be out of the country... also, is there any such thing as conditional citizenship or does everyone who is approved get unconditional indefinite citizenship?

I have my oath ceremony tomorrow and the officer who interviewed me strongly advised to bring cash and apply for an expedited passport there and then ("you never know when you'll need it")... I should have asked him but forgot, do they make a copy of your certificate (or whatever they give you) or do you have to simply hand the only copy over and hope for the best?

(If it's relevant this is at the Orlando, FL office)

Why would the passport officer moan at you.. how is he going to know you have 2 passports?

I have never found any info on line about it..

Not sure if this is the right forum for this question- I have just had my oath ceremony and applied for my passport. I have a UK passport too, and was wondering which I have to use when I travel?

I know I have to use the US one to exit/enter the US (I think)- but what about when I get to/leave my destination?

And apologies- I'm writing this from my office and don't have the paperwork in front of me... but will I get (or have I already got) an extension letter? Or is this something I need to apply for separately?

I filed for lifting of conditions in May 2008, since my green card was due to expire on August 1st. Had my biometrics appointment in June... and since then, nothing. Checking online I get this:

Application Type: CRI89, PETITION TO REMOVE CONDITIONS OF PERMANENT RESIDENT STATUS RECEIVED

Current Status: This case is now pending at the office to which it was transferred.


So I have two questions... is this normal to still be waiting for this long?

And also, since my green card is now expired do I have to apply for an extension, and if so, how?

Thank you to anyone who can answer these painfully obvious questions which I'm sure have been covered here many times already...!

The NOA extends the status of your green card one year from the expiry date on your green card. You carry the green card and the NOA letter together and together they form the document that validates your legal status in the US. For example, if your green card expires February 26, 2009, then your NOA letter extends your status to February 26, 2010.

There is probably an obvious answer to this but the I-797C I have says

"Your conditional resident status is extended for a period of one year..."

But is that one year starting from the notice date of the letter, or one year from the expiration date of the green card?

I sent my I-751 to TSC last May ('08) and have heard nothing since the NOA (which was sent one day later) and the biometrics (which was one month later).

Checking on this forum, some people told me it would have since been transferred to VSC (though obviously the USCIS website mysteriously omits to mention anything of the sort when I log on to check the status- and as I was idly looking today I noticed the case was last updated on 2/22/2009 (not that I got sent the e-mail alert I'd signed up for... but maybe that's not supposed to generate an e-mail?).

When I click on the case it still says

"This case is now pending at the office to which it was transferred."

Anyway- can I read anything into this 'update'? Or should I sit tight for an even longer wait?
