Just one thing: the survey directs us to choose 3 most important motivations to become USC, however from the final results (at least immediately after I completed the survey), it looks like people answered Yes to more than 3 motivations. If it is important to the end result of the survey that people choose Yes for only 3 motivations, this needs to be emphasized more clearly in the survey.

I feel lucky to have been able start off my credit history in this country without much trouble. I came as an MBA student back in 2002 and got a checking/savings account with the local university credit union, and a credit card through them as well. The credit limit from the start was $200, but after a year, I worked part-time and they increased it to $500, and after another year I had an internship and real income, and the credit limit was increased to $2,000. The truth is that the initial $200 credit limit did not bother me, my student expenses were not much and I used my debit card to pay for most of the stuff anyway.

While in college, I met my husband and after we got married, he added me to his bank account and credit cards, we now have $12,000 credit limit and I recently checked my credit score - high 700's. We never carry a balance and we have credit cards just to build history, because we don't live on credit.

I think it is much easier to start off banking with credit unions affiliated with universities, they trust you more and offer good deals, and in time will be willing to increase your credit limit.

Thanks a lot everybody. In the meantime, I found it! I just raked my mind to figure out where I could have put it safely for the move.

By the way, I had my biometrics on September 10. At that time, my GC was still missing in action. However, according to the ASC Appointment Notice: "You must bring photo identification. Naturalization applicants must bring their Alien Registration Card. All other applicants must bring a passport, driver's license, national ID, military ID, or State-issued photo ID." Not being a naturalization applicant, there was no mention of having to bring the green card, which is why I did not panic. I brought my passport and drivers license. The security guard asked for my green card and I explained that I misplaced it and that according to the ASC notice, a passport should be enough. He agreed that is correct, but cautioned me that according to the law, I should be carrying my GC on me all the time. He let me keep my biometrics appointment nonetheless. So the reason you need your GC for biometrics is not because the notice says so.

I applied for removal of conditions on my green card and received the one year extension letter. Recently I moved and in the process have misplaced my (already expired) green card.

Two questions:
1. Will I ever need the expired green card in the future? What are the consequences? Should I start a thorough search in my house?
2. If I wish to travel, notably Canada, do I need to present the expired green card along with the extension letter or is the letter enough? I think I know the answer, but just checking with my more experienced fellow VJ-ers.

Do not worry! Look at my timeline, filed for ROC 8/3, biometrics 9/10, card ordered 12/2. The USCIS website says it takes 6 months on average so hang in there, it will arrive!

Sort of off topic, but I sit on my computer in the evening and look at all the pics of my kids. It feels like it is a world away now. We were such a normal family. This is where my family is living in Albania and our home in Michigan (in foreclosure). It breaks my heart. Sometimes I feel like I just can't breath anymore. I wish I could go into a voluntary coma and sleep this part of my life off.

I called USCIS right now, explained the whole thing. After that she said You have to wait 60 days. She said my case still under Initial Review. We are currently reviewing it. I am like ok. so what state is it at . She is like initial review. She couldnt even answer a simple question. All she repeated is wait 60 days.

This is Frustrating. I hoped and wished to get a Correct Reply atleast.



yeah, I had a conversation like that yesterday with USCIS and yesterday with my congressman...it's all pointless.

Do you think we'll get a storm of approvals tonight?

wow, 40 ppl are on here at one time. I am so glad that in this awful situation, when I am separated from the ppl i love most in the world, i have been able to share this "journey" with you all. It has made this unbearable situation just barely bearable. I hope God speeds us all thru this mess and back to our families as soon as possible.
