United KingdomBBC America New Lineup
Yeah, why won't they put Eastenders on?? even though that programme started to get on my nerves after a while, but I think it's much better than cheap and nasty Footballers Wives! I saw some episodes of Robin Hood on BBC America, but they're kinda #######, definitely need to put some decent programmes on that channel.

United KingdomIts ALMOST eastery time!

Plus I'm assuming you can't get Cadbury's Creme Eggs over there, and they therefore won't be a feature of said Easter baskets... I haaaaaaaate Cadbury's Creme Eggs! (looked for nauseous green smiley to illustrate my point, can't find it).

Yup, you can get them. Hershey's make them under licence from Cadbury's. Taste slightly different but are edible in a creamy sicky kind of way...

Incidentally, I DID have one the other week and my hubby said I was the first person he has ever seen that managed to eat it without getting the creme filling everywhere. I'm a Creme Egg artiste!

Cabury Creme Eggs are the best

Use to love Cadbury's Flake as well.

United KingdomTreats!
I love Terry Orange Chocolate, miss that!

Walkers crisps are the best! I used to always have prawn cocktail flavour :D

I ALWAYS loved the middle bit of chocolate you got left, after you'd eaten the segments. It was all flaky and, without a doubt, the best bit!

oh my god, so true! :D I used to love that!

Looove Jaffa cakes, they have some over here in the international section I saw in Stop and Shop, I think they're Jacob's or something, but they're no where near as good as the original ones :hehe:

You can get it in Stop and Shop in Rhode Island and Whole Foods, but looks like someone has answered your question.

Marmite is a yeast spread, you put in sandwiches, on bagels, etc, is goooooood, is an english thing. :D

Hmm - my brother has a macro card >< I wonder if they do bovril as well...

They may do, ask him to check it out! smile.gif

Is marmite that syrupy stuff in the green can i see in Tesco here? i asked my fellow shoppers what that was and all i got were blank stares!!! What is that stuff???

Hehe, Marmite is a spread you put on toast or sandwiches. It's in a brown jar, with a yellow lid, it's a yeast extract, very very healthy for you. But I warn you, if you find it and want to try it, get a small jar, as you will either love it or hate it! wink.gif you have been warned! hehe.

..... you see the crappy way the adverts are done on TV (e.g they cut the advert before it's finished airing or you see a brief 1 - 3 second ad and then a full advert, seems to me that they recycle the tape without erazing it first, a classic case of poor editorial skills)

..... you attempt to get in the wrong side of the car to drive down the shops ! (yep, done it here ... opps)

..... you can not find your fav food in the shops (cream, double cream, thick double cream, weetabix.

..... you can not find an electrical screw driver in the hardware stores ! (all they sell are test probes, ####### !)

..... someone cuts you up on the road without using their indicators and mirrors just to be in front of you !

..... you have a tail gater ..... they tend to sit on your rear as if they are looking through the contents in the back of the car...... ####### .... sometimes I feel like stopping the car in the middle of the road and walking to the back and opening the boot and asking the driver if s/he wants anything from it !

LOL! I've definitely walked round to the wrong side of the car, many times! you hope no one saw you do it! lol

mad.gif tail gaters! I'm in Rhode Island and I'm sorry there are many many a-hole drivers around here!! just for something to do they will ride right up your back side, then under take you and park themselves right in front of you, then they go slower and have a 10 car gap infront of them, just for the sake of p**ing you off! and another one, people tailgating you in the slow lane! and your doing 70 mph when your meant to be doing 55!! my remedy spray them with the window washer fluid, that gets some people to slow down! headbonk.gif

United KingdomThe Departure
QUOTE (lilysintrigue @ May 13 2008, 05:38 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
So I have decided to share how the experience went for me while leaving the UK behind to be with my fiance. So the day started out early like most flights and saying goodbye to my family. It's hard to say bye to your loved ones but remembering you will see them again is something that really helps ease the pain of moving to another country. Packing my life into a few bags has proven to be an interesting task as you can fit quite a lot into a few bags and get away with weight limits. Either way we checked 1 30kg bag, 1 26kg bag, a apple imac in it's box and a guitar in it's flight case. We managed to get away with paying over weight fees on the 26kg bag so it must have been my lucky day only having to pay $50, I was expecting to pay at least $100 for both the heavy bags. So we said our goodbyes and wished everyone well and then passed though the security at Bristol Airport. We sat down for a little while in the departure lounge and then boarded our flight 20 minutes later to Newark Airport.

The flight was pretty smooth, I don't like flying that much but it's mainly due to turbulence and some of the very harsh landings. Once in Newark me and shawna went though the security and immigration lines and had our passports scanned and checked. Once I had had my passport scanned the officer at the desk took my visa packet with passport and took me and shawna to a lift hidden being immigration and told us to give the visa packet to the officer on the lower level. Got out of the lift and handed over all the info but he didn't want the x-rays which I had been trying not to damage then we followed the office and sat down in a line up of chairs where the visa packet and my passport were handed over to another officer at the desk. We sat in the immigration checkpoint for around 5 minutes and then the officer called us up to the desk asked when we are getting married and "you know you have 3 months to get married" which we said we knew about. The office then handed over my passport and said enjoy your stay, at this point we made our way out to baggage claim to hunt down our bags and then carried on our flight to houston.

The passport had my K1 I-94 stapled in the back with K1 written within the dated stamp of expiration. be sure to check this to make sure the stamp says K1 as there have been a few incidents so i've heard where they have written the wrong visa type in the stamp.

The 2nd flight took forever, or seemed forever, I guess that's because I was sick of traveling and wanted to rest but now I'm here with shawna in this lovely humid but warm part of the country and we have plans to be married mid june. I hope this is of use to someone who is interested to what is coming up and what there is to expect when arriving in the US.

Good luck to everyone who hasn't had their interviews yet.

- Chris

Congrats! My POE was Newark and I had a great experience there as well, was all very quick and easy. I had to get a connecting flight to T.F.Green airport in Rhode Island. Was so relieving to land in Rhode Island and think, this was the last flight by myself, thank god! it can get very lonely on a plane by yourself. Every time we go away now, I will have my husband with me.

Congrats again! smile.gif
